We went with friends who are local to the area. Our friends suggested we trust the chef to chose the rolls. We did and all were delicious! It's a bit out of the way down a long dusty road but he views (overlooking the coastline) and food makes for a special treat! We also saw the donkeys on the beach. Recommended. Be sure to have the proper transportation.

This was an incredible surprise on the road!! So glad we gave it a try. Everything we ordered was fabulous. Ocean view hard to beat, service was excellent, food was just amazing. Definitely need a reservation, we got lucky they had a table for us in off hours. Road to get to this gem is tough dirt road with no phone service, needing 4 wheel drive.

No exaggeration, best sushi we have ever had in our life. I don't think any sushi will ever compare to this place. Food was amazing and you can't beat the view.

Delicious sushi. Beautiful outdoor space and great views. A bit on the pricier side compared to the average restaurant in the area, but you get what you pay for. Good sake selection as well.

Absolutely phenomenal! The most amazing drive from the resort through the rugged desert, to an amazing oasis in the middle of nowhere! Best sushi and sashimi I have ever had!

Beautiful presentation and unexpectedly delicious sushi! We were driving back from diving in Cabo Pulmo along the gravel road and were delighted by the quality and of course the views. You can make your own sushi and we had the flan for dessert which was perfectly complemented by Baileys.

It's hard to beat perfect. We found it here. Wow, lots of whale activity. We rented a car and drove about 70 minutes to the Cape. Wow, what a great day.

This is by far the best sushirestaurant we ever visited!! Do not miss the fantastic cocktails. Magnificent view over the Ocean with service beyond compare! We dined there several times during our stay in the Cabo area this easter! Remember to book table in advance!

This place is an absolute gem. The Honolulu sushi rolls made me cry. First through their delicious taste, then prolonged by the incomprehensibly spicy after taste. I won't forget this :'D

Hands down this is the best sushi in Baja Sur! I’ve lived and traveled in Japan, Hawaii and Baja California. Most places in the world that serve sushi are giving you flash frozen. That’s okay, but if you want fresh yellowtail and tuna, this is the place to come in southern Baja. Yes, there are restaurants in downtown Cabo. I’ve tried them all. None match the atmosphere and quality of Zai’s. You’ll want to get the Curricane, the yellowtail sashimi, and the roll with mango and Serrano. It’s located next to a glamping spot on the beach that has grown over the years. Rent an ATV, reserve a night or two at glamping or nearby hotel and take in the beach, and chill time at Zai’s.

Some of the best plated sushi I have ever experienced. Large selection on the menu. 4 or 5 KM of dirt road at the end to get there but well worth the effort. The location feels raw and unspoiled.

Awesome sushi!! Beautiful setting!! Make reservations for sure. Go early and have a cocktail at their new beach bar "Ozxy's Beach Bar" before your reservation. 😁 We brought carrots and fed the wild donkeys on our drive out...fun day 😁.

Hands down the BEST sushi I’ve ever had in my life! Sashimi, sushi rolls, ceviche, seared tuna and fried gyoza were amazing! Restaurant was clean and organized, view was amazing and staff were unbelievably friendly, fun and very attentive! I will go back to Cabo just to eat here again! It was that good! I purchased one of their shirts and was wearing it in the airport on my way home, and this lady literally grabbed me by the arm and said “we went there! Isn’t that place amazing!?” So here is her review as well! Best part of our trip! Thank you everyone at Zai for making it such a memorable experience!

Best ceviche, sushi, and service! We didn’t have reservations on a Saturday night but they were able to seat us. Be warned the Honolulu roll is so spicy and delicious for the adventurous. They also have a lot of non-sushi options as well! Muchas gracias Zai

Ozzy's Bar has a great surfing/whale watching and good vibe feel. Priced great, and I loved the chicken & beef skewers. Make sure you wear flip flops because you will want to go barefoot. Worth the drive from Los Cabos.

It is one of the few sushi restaurants that I don’t get sick from. The food is fresh, delicious and has a beautiful view. We tried Shipwrecks and La Fortuna special rolls. Both are worth a try. Also make reservations ahead of time.

Zai gets you up to an adventure. This very isolated beachfront restaurant located in East Cape Cabo sure has a beautiful way to get there. The drive depending on what time of the day, welcomes you with pintorestic colors, submerging oneself to the flora and fauna of Baja. The staff are all very loving, great service on food and drinks. This time I ordered three rolls, one which was the Aguachile Roll, and the other one Shipwrek roll, the third one I don’t have a photo or name. Shipwrek roll was the best out of all. We also ordered chili edamames which where great. Sushi rolls here are a 9.2/10 for me. Drinks on the other hand are not that worth it. I tried two of them and both disappointed me heavily. Maybe my choice of drinks wasn’t the best but I would be careful if you’re in a budget specially. I love going to Zai and reconnect with the desert/beach.

Zai is a must when on the east cape. I go as much as we can every time I’m there. I love with Waimai roll and the gyoza and love to switch it up on other rolls each time, but the coco one is also bomb. The tempura ice cream is so good and my favorite drink EVER is the passion. Sooo good

We really enjoyed the experience of eating at Zai. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the mango margaritas were refreshing. The views on the patio were incredible as we watched whales in the distance. The drive out from San Jose del Cabo was beautiful as well. Make a reservation and enjoy the experience.

Holy moly. That was fantastic. Quite in the middle of nowhere on this desolate dirt road (I came from the north… so the longer way…) but every bit worth coming here. Service was nice and prompt. I got the La Fortuna roll and Curricane. Just. So. Delicious. Perfection. Pretty upscale… and expensive. Aaand I really want to go back!

I finally decided to go here. I always chose more authentic Mexican beach restaurant's. However, watching more and more of these places asking for 100 pesos for beers out of a cooler was getting stupid. This place is a little more pricey. Same priced drinks though and it's an actual restaurant. My meal was $280 and well worth it. If in this area, just go. Far more value.

Went here last minute from Cabo last night! So glad we did! Beautiful restaurant with even better food than I could of expected. The quality, variety and taste was the best sushi we have had in the Baja! Definitely make a reservation and enjoy!

Over hyped sushi, the vast menu is basically repetitive options with a different outer wrap and a remix of the same basic ingredients inside. But the views of surfers and people watching are worthwhile.

Amazing sushi is a sleepy surf town along the Baja coast. The roads are rough to get here - but it’s worth the trek.

Beautiful setting, lovely staff — but don’t expect mind-blowing sushi This place has a stunning atmosphere — open, breezy, and right in front of a secluded beach that feels almost untouched. The staff is incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel warm and relaxed. That said, the food itself is… okay. Sushi is fresh but nothing special, and the drinks were just average. If you’ve had sushi in other great spots, this won’t be “the best sushi of your life” — despite what some of the reviews claim. Let’s just say: those folks might need to explore a bit more. Still, it’s worth coming for the view, the vibe, and a laid-back lunch or dinner by the sea. Just manage your expectations when it comes to the menu.

One of Cabo’s best kept local secrets. Delicious, fresh, well served plates, great location; they are right by the beach at La Fortuna. Worth the trip! As an update to my previous review, lately service hasn’t been as it was unfortunately. Other than that great place.

Views, whale watching, and a peaceful meal. Amazing location and atmosphere. Situated on the East Cape, we rode our sand rail in and I was worried I would be underdressed but it’s decently casual during the daytime. Reservations are needed but we got in on a whim with some locals. Most of the food was fabulous but I was quite disappointed in the sushi. I’ve honestly had better off the coast in many places. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Will try again later this month and report back.

Great food. Service isn't the best. Ordered the same drink 3 times and it never arrived as I asked each time, every round was different... Also made reservations for a large party and when we arrived found out we were split up...even though they have tables to accommodate all of us, it wasn't very cool as the point of us going together was to sit together and share. The food is great. But the service does lack and the non itemized bill is not my favorite either. Basically a bill with a bunch of numbers on it and you hope you aren't getting screwed.

K

Nice place. Great views. A place resting on its laurels. Terrible kids menu. The menu says it's fish (or chicken) with vegetables and rice. It's a small portion of fish on a useless bed of wilted lettuce and a tiny ball of rice. We had to order two each in order to feed the kids. It ended up being more expensive than adult meals just to get the kids fed. This place is expensive.

J
Julie Singh

The food was good and we liked that they had vegan options. Otherwise, everything else was not great. They sat us at this weird shared high top table because we didn't have a reservation but then moved someone who came after us (also no reservation) to a table. The food took SO long (we only ordered one roll) and when we finally asked about it, it was all excuses and no apologies. The prices were high, service was poor.

Poke bowl was depressing. Had the tuna filet and the fish itself is obviously good but the presentation and sides are just sad. No love.

RACISTS! Discriminating to local Mexicans. We got there on a Thursday afternoon. Six empty tables. Only one of the tables was ready, and had a sign, the rest of them, empty, there were a lot more empty tables in the back. Sat in the smallest. After a long wait, a waiter comes exclaiming “oh! No one told you this table is reserved? Let me ask if we have any tables” He never came back. We got up, moved to the front, asked a waitress for a table. She never came back. Asked a third person, he said sorry, we are booked, you should have made a reservation. By the way, we were never asked if we had a reservation. It was clear, I told him, you are discriminating against us, the same exact thing happened to us at Zac’s bar, they were so mean to us because we were speaking Spanish. Even a guy at a table was looking down on us, I was dressed in sports clothes and my friend had been painting in his Gallery. It saddens me this is turning like DelMar, California with dirt roads and horrible people eager to humiliate you because you are not pure blood, who is by the way. They told us to go down the path to a bar by the beach, we got there, no food, only drinks. This has been by far my WORST experience in all of my travels. It felt so horrible and weird. I will put a lot of energy into making this common knowledge. This place is not worth of Baja. Perhaps their intention is to be exclusive to foreigners and no Mexicans will be served.

I don't write reviews but people should be informed. Very very slow service and expensive food for how long it takes. We arrived around noon it took 20 minutes for them to seat us with multiple open tables. We had to order 3 rounds of expensive drinks. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to bring our food. This is their scam to make more money. I watched the bartender he was too busy flirting to make drinks. When he was done he had drink tickets pilled up so it took them 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink out. We ordered chicken teriyaki, crunchy roll and two pieces of small yellow tail. They said they ran out of the tuna. The bathroom was dirty and had a shared wash area. My girlfriend refused to use it. My advice if you are hungry when you arrive bring your own food or go somewhere else. To top it off my girlfriend got sick from the food. This place needs John Tafer.

The sushi rolls are pretty. I'll give them that. But the fish curry tasted like it came from the freezer. Chewy and pasty. The sauce was heavy and milky. Hardly tasted of curry. The appetizer came after the main dishes. Then, the bill somehow came to more than double what it should have been. When I pointed out the error, the waiter took the ticket back to the kitchen. Ten minutes later, he came out with the correct price -- no apology -- and claimed that the adding machine made a mistake! Very sketchy experience. Expensive and over-hyped. Bad vibes all around.
