Lovina Calistoga Reviews
Modern but warm setting. Very fast service. And just excellent food. Delicious vegan options from starter to dessert. Their vegan lasagna was light and tasty - the best I've ever had. Very interesting wine selection, and some good cocktails and zero proof drinks. They take care of their employees and it's a tip free establishment. They get everything right.
We had the four course Valentine’s Day special! Lobster and Steak were perfect. The tuna starters were magnificent, too! Patio seating in the rain was great, loved the overhead heat lamps. Staff was very friendly.
Many vegan options and excellent service. Really enjoyed the eggplant dish and the lasagna and bolognese were great. Even had a delicious vegan snickers dessert that was not just sorbet!
I do believe I had THE best vegan lasagna I’ve ever had here tonight! And the hubby’s Risotto was amazing as well. You can get the risotto minus the meat, btw. Photos are what’s left. lol. Oh & the butternut squash soup was also tdf. It’s a bit pricey but the tip is included. Definitely a good place for a special occasion.
Such positive vibes here and delicious food including yummy vegan options. Cinnamon roll was not overly sweet and the fancy peach iced tea was refreshing. The vegan breakfast burrito was super filling and came with a nice side salad and the smoked salmon benedict was great as well. Would definitely come back next time we're in the area!!! Also lovely dog friendly outdoor area with really warm heat lamps🥰
We almost skipped this place because for me, a restaurant serving the highly processed "Impossible" whatever-it-is-made-of is a major turn off. Fortunately, we gave it a try on our last night and found the chefs have a wonderful ability to make layered tastes with real food, including really fantastic bread. The service and atmosphere were warm and welcoming, and after all the big fancy wine houses, it was lovely to support a true small business. I would definitely recommend and would love to see them make their own version of sausage etc. out of real food.
We had such a lovely experience here. Every aspect of the restaurant was curated with care, every bite was perfect, and the wine was delicious. We left with the content feeling of being welcomed and deeply nourished. The muscles with fennel broth and the “snickers” dessert are not to be missed!
Lovina in Calistoga was outstanding from start to finish. Our server, Taylor, was incredibly attentive and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the meal. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our 1-year-old, even bringing out little toys to keep her happy, which made a huge difference for us. The food was incredible, and the service was truly top-notch. We also loved learning that the owner provides living wages and real benefits like a 401k match for staff. It made the experience even better knowing we were supporting an establishment that genuinely takes care of its people.
We passed by this restaurant several times during our week here and it's always been busy. One of the locals suggested we try it. The prices are expensive because there's no tipping, as the owner pays her staff well, with benefits and a 401K plan, etc. The food was amazing. I only remembered to take a picture when I was halfway through, because it was that good. I ordered the Wine Forest Risotto, and the Wagyu short rib was amazingly tender. The risotto was delicious and savory, with mushrooms throughout. My husband had the Impossible Sausage Lasagna, and it was fabulous. If I hadn't known it was Impossible Sausage, I wouldn't have been able to tell. We had the Levain for the table, and I have to admit that I'm going to try to recreate the whipped kale pistachio pesto butter at home. It will be worth the effort. Don't pass up this restaurant. It's totally worth it.
After an exhausting day of wine tasting (Har Har), this girl needed takeout and the comfort of no more people. Aka cancel the reservation family, we getting to go! Easy to order online and easy pick up! Yasss to the Bohemian esthetic but clean modern vibe? The outside and inside is gorgeous. Food piping hot and piping good! Big win for our family: vegan options and they were delicious! The risotto was, *chefs kiss. Highly recommend! ***Get that reservation if u are serious about eating in house!
We made a dinner reservation here while planning our overnight trip to Calistoga. We stayed at Indian Springs and this was really close by, possibly walking distance but we drove and parking was really easy, there was street parking. We had an 830pm reservation on a Monday and were probably one of the last larger parties there. We opted to sit outside and we enjoyed their late night rnb playlist. This is a tip free restaurant and all of the prices go into the price of the entree, we went family style. I got an espresso martini that was delicious! We started off with the model bakery bread and pistachio butter, polenta bites, whipped burrata and heirloom tomatoes, and their locally little gem salad which were are really good! We shared the heritage pork and beef bolognese and got the French onion potato gratin and broccolini as sides. It was a lot for all 4 of us and we were super full by the end. We asked what the most popular dessert is and it was the hot mess. We got all of the popular items and enjoyed it all! Nice and hearty, great service and good vibes!
In the last 7 years, I've eaten here many times, and gotten take out during the pandemic because this place is so worth supporting! They're a real member of the community and they go out of their way to support their staff with their tip-free menu and parts of the proceeds from the hand made pottery sales going to support their staff and the local food bank. But how is the food? Amazing. I've never had even a mediocre meal here. They have options for every dietary style, including vegetarian and gluten free. Their dessert is always to die for. Their wine selection is always solid. The space is adorable inside and out. I can go on and on, but just come eat here. You will not be sorry. (Included photos from our most recent meal of incredible delights.)
Everything was SO delicious. Pricey but makes sense given the freshness of the food, and the business model (tip already included), which pays staff a living wage, and includes benefits such as PTO/ healthcare. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and beautiful - especially the outdoor patio area. The service is top notch, very attentive. The food is absolutely incredible! Can’t wait to go back and try more items !
One of the best dining experiences & most delicious food we’ve ever had! We came here on our honeymoon and they had a card signed by all the staff plus a handmade wine stopper from the owner for us. The artichoke dip for starters was amazing. Then the duck salad for dinner was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. They also price their menu in such a way that no tipping is required which I loved to see from a business perspective. We can’t wait to come back for all of our anniversaries!
10/10 recommend! Nina and the male host were friendly and instantly made you feel comfortable. Our group of 6 women walked away talking about that being the best meal start to finish we can remember! They were so accommodating turning the heater on and off on the patio, it was so comfortable, beautiful, and peaceful. Thank you for catering to us so kindly, great job
Lovina felt like a homecoming. Having grown up in small family run restaurants the staff made us feel instantly welcome. The restaurant is small, intimate and cozy. There was a personal touch with the owners handmade pottery used with nearly every dish. Every staff member was attentive and friendly. The food was simple but perfectly flavored. The parsley and garlic butter that comes with the sourdough bread is something of dreams. The pastas were divine. I hold all my pasta against the impossibly high standards of my Italian family friend’s homemade 100 layer lasagna and when I took a bite of the Bolognese I thought I was back in Italy. I pretty much never order pasta in restaurant because I’m always left disappointed. Not at Lovina. Truly lovely. A must visit in quiet Calistoga.
If I could give a few additional stars I would. The owner super amazing. She squeezed us in on New Year’s Eve! Thanks so much! The service from the moment you walk in was terrific! The food was exceptional, everything felt so fresh and so delicious! Nothing but amazing things to say about this restaurant - truly 10/10. The restaurant radiates positivity. The staff is attentive, and they seem actually happy. The menu offers something for every taste and the food is just delicious.... we ordered salads, halibut, ceviche, all outstanding including the sourdough bread with a pistachio butter to die for. Really love what the restaurant stands for in terms of paying their employees a fair wage, 401k matching and health benefits - its rare to find a restaurant these days that looks after their employees the way Lovina does. Will be back again! Can’t wait to try more of the menu!
Lovina was a nice dinner for our group after a day of wineries nearby. While I didn't love every New American dish we tried, I was very impressed by the service and the halibut in particular - delicious. Nice wine options (which I'd hope so for considering the area) and a relaxing atmosphere made for a pleasant evening.
A cute little spot on downtown Calistoga's main street, Lovina has a beautiful outdoor space that is super inviting on a warm day. While a smaller/limited menu, I give the restaurant major props - tip is included in the final bill because they provide their staff healthcare, etc. KUDOS to Lovina ownership. During our visit, we split the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) sandwich which was on a fantastic piece of sourdough and had this wonderful chipotle aioli/sauce. As for the experience, halfway through our meal the staff sat a couple directly next to us...on a patio that had no one else on it. It was awkward and uncomfortable for us both. Upon getting the bill, we were floored to see that the ice latte I received was ELEVEN DOLLARS (this is not Starbucks, folks). Nine for the latte and a two-dollar surcharge for oat milk (love being punished for being lactose intolerant). For being a brunch spot, you would think they would have a better handle on this, but this certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. Tons of other restaurant options in town, so I'll likely try those in the future.
