Flahertys Carmel Reviews
We were passing by on our way to Monterey, randomly search food for our dinner. Found out this amazing restaurant. I would say this lobster bisque was 1000000/10 more than perfecttt!! Also we ordered shrimp risotto the shrimp is so crunchy. We tried the shrimp put in a bit into the bisque, wow amazing combination. Atmosphere was very convenient and if you bring baby the provide high chair as well. Will come back again one day!!
After a day of hiking along the coast we stopped in to treat ourselves to some seafood. We started with fresh oysters on the half shell and lobster bisque, which was enough food to be a meal on its own! The Cioppino was incredible, with so many different proteins and a broth to die for. Our waitress Sandra was a wealth of knowledge and gave great recommendations along with a fun attitude that made the evening even more enjoyable!
I have celiac and this restaurant uses dedicated fryers for their gluten free fried food! I was able to enjoy fried fish tacos and the fried artichoke hearts at lunch — the mesa cake & beans were the perfect accompaniment to the generously portioned fish tacos. My boyfriend tried them too, and although he doesn’t have a gluten allergy, he said they were the best fried fish tacos he’s ever had. We enjoyed the food so much we went back for drinks and appetizers in the evening, and tried the fried calamari. Highly recommend for anyone with serious allergies, they really honor their guests’ needs.
Wow the food was superb. My partner and I were brought in by an oysters Groupon for this place and wow did they blow us away with the oysters and with the other food items as well! We also had the lobster bisque and crab chowder or bisque (whatever it’s called) and those were yummy. My partner and I shared the lobster gnocchi … omg wow that was SUPERB!! To finish our amazing meal we had the house made bread pudding with icecream. This was such a great meal it lifted spirits and replenished us. I apologize for the lack of photos we were feral so didn’t get too many pictures. Thank you to our server for his recommendations !
Great food, chill atmosphere, and wonderful service. What more could you ask for!? Made an impromptu trip to Flaherty’s after a spectacular round of golf at Pebble Beach. I got the Seafood Louie salad and my wife got the Seafood Cioppino soup, along with a dozen oysters on the half shell for an appetizer. The oysters were amazing, the soup had a ton of seafood in it and was flavorful and well-cooked. My salad was fresh, well-seasoned, and packed with shrimp and crab. I would definitely recommend stopping by Flaherty’s if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed! Flaherty’s is a must-visit if you’re in the area! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is top-notch. After a great round of golf at Pebble Beach, I decided to treat myself and my wife to a meal at Flaherty’s. We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell, which were absolutely amazing. The Seafood Cioppino soup was also delicious, packed with seafood and flavorful. Great meal and good atmosphere. The server was awesome and attentive. They did run out of oysters when we were there, so I didn't get to try them. We were there close to 1 hour before they closed, so I understand. Maybe next time. Either way, the food was good and cooked perfectly. The calamari was my favorite. Not like most places. It was thick cuts that wasn't rubbery in texture. Delicious! Will be back again when I'm in the area.
On Sunday, June 15, 2025, I had a wonderful and romantic dinner date here at Flaherty’s with the love of my life and my fur baby. I had the salmon pasta and my boyfriend had the ribeye steak. We absolutely loved our food. The staff, especially Rodney our server, made our visit extra special. ❤️This dinner date turned into my wedding proposal, which turned out splendidly. Rodney served us a special drink called the Lucky Star for the occasion and wished us a happy future together. I couldn’t have wished for a better experience especially this being my first ever proposal. We also had the delicious key lime pie with pistachio crust…super good! This place forever now holds a special place in our hearts and we will definitely be coming back again and again. I want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything that the staff did to make this such a sweet and amazing experience !!!
If you’re a seafood lover, do yourself a favor and run—not walk—to this place! Everything from the atmosphere to the service to the food was top-tier, but let me talk about the star of the show: the oysters. They were incredible fresh, briny, and served ice-cold with the perfect balance of sauces and citrus. You could truly taste the ocean in every bite. Whether you’re a seasoned oyster fanatic or trying them for the first time, this spot will absolutely blow you away.
I believe our waitress was named Sandra! She was a very attentive. Food was great. If you order the jambalaya just know the plate is huge! You can definitely share it with everyone. The chowder is probably the best chowder I’ve ever had. The kids Mac n cheese was a little watery though
If you’re looking for good seafood in Carmel, at a more affordable price than some of the others restaurants around here, this is the spot! We went for dinner twice because it was so good. Service was great, food came out quite fast, and everything was delicious. The Seafood Cobb is a must try, and the Louie sandwiches were unique and delicious. Fish & Chips was also very good. Lobster Bisque was great, and so was the clam chowder (not pictured). Can’t wait to come back one day.
During a recent trip to Carmel, we stopped at Flaherty’s Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar for lunch and had a pleasant and satisfying meal. The restaurant offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere, which was a nice break from the bustling streets. Overall, the combination of good food, friendly service, and fair prices made for a decent experience, though it didn't quite have that special sparkle you often look for in a town like Carmel. We decided to sample a variety of their offerings, starting with the New England Chowder and a Lobster Cup, accompanied by a couple of their featured beers. Both soups were tasty and served as a good start to the meal. We also shared the crab cakes appetizer, which was well-prepared. However, the undisputed star of the show was the Paella. As you can see from the photo, it arrived as a vibrant, colorful pan filled with flavorful saffron rice, peas, peppers, and a generous mix of seafood. The portion was perfect for sharing, and every bite was packed with flavor. It was easily the most memorable part of our lunch and a dish I would recommend. The service throughout our meal was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and struck the right balance of being available without hovering over us. We also noted that the entire restaurant was very clean and well-kept. From a value perspective, the prices were quite fair, especially considering the location in the heart of Carmel. The only area where we felt a little underwhelmed was the location itself. While perfectly fine, it didn't offer any of the unique scenic views or quaint charm that makes so many other Carmel spots feel special. In conclusion, Flaherty’s is a solid choice for a casual seafood lunch. You'll get good food, particularly the paella, friendly service, and you won't leave feeling like you've overpaid. While we weren't completely blown away, it was a perfectly enjoyable meal. It's a reliable spot, just perhaps not the first one we'd rush back to on our next visit to this beautiful coastal town.
Very nice spot for lunch. Everything we had was good. But probably have had better elsewhere. Fish and chips was tasty but not the best for sure. Certainly not as good as a basic fish and chips shop in england. But still tasty. The lobster bisque was similar. Tasty but not near the best. The favorite dish we had was caesar salad which was surprising. The lettuce was very crisp and fresh and the dressing was very nice.
I have dined here everytime I’m in town, and remembering the first time I ordered the paella I believe it was made to order and delicious with a perfect socarrot, Totally worth the wait. I’ve been chasing that dragon for a few years now and it’s never been as good as the first time. It’s Way too sloppy to call paella, and the pan came out So fast and So Hot it’s obviously premade. It continued to cook the delicate seafood for probably 30 minutes. Disappointing. But I do understand it’s a labor intensive dish, and the price is fair. I’ve had many other Amazing dishes and will continue to eat here. The staff is Always Fantastic and I Love the Vibe.
Atmosphere as you would expect . Food is good but… I expected more paella 🥘 too creamy, maybe for some is good but for me after knowing the real stuff … it was ok. Pizza for kids is actually delicious, but there is big chances that your kids want like it, it doesn’t taste as usual pizza. I like it a lot but not my daughter. Grilled fish and fries 🍟 are good. Award winning soup were excellent.
Fish & chips were good, and tasted really fresh. The burger was average , was disappointed they had no mayo at the restaurant which I thought was odd. Meals are served with a basket of bread and butter. For the area-the price was good about $20-30 each for these plates. We sat outside but had to step over a curb to be able to sit at our table. I think it must have been a planter before they decided to add extra seating. Our waitress was rude & was talking with her coworkers the whole time and she seemed irritated that we needed refills, etc. A guy that worked in the back actually had to come out several times when he noticed we needed something. At the time there was only one other customer.
The food is fine but be aware of their 2% adversity surcharge and mandatory 18% tips! Remember checking the receipt before handing your credit card! The tips were put on the receipt already and they wouldn't give you a pen until they need your signature. I really hate this way. About food: the bread and butter are free. We ordered Peach on the Beach, Seafood Paella and Linguine Pasta. The cocktail and paella taste pretty good, and TBH the paella is very big and enough for two people. The pasta is a little below my expectation. This meal cost me $115 which I think it doesn't worth this price.
I recently dined here with a few friends and overall had a good experience. The food was excellent fresh, flavorful, and clearly well-prepared. Everything we ordered was enjoyable, and the quality definitely met expectations. That said, the atmosphere was unfortunately affected by an uncomfortable situation. During our visit, we witnessed an employee named Keith speaking very loudly and harshly to another employee in the dining area. The interaction escalated to the point where the other employee appeared visibly upset and in tears. It created a tense and awkward environment for guests. I understand that workplace issues happen, but handling them in front of customers takes away from the dining experience. I hope management addresses situations like this more privately and professionally in the future, because the food and overall potential of this restaurant are truly strong. Would return for the food, but hoping for a more comfortable atmosphere next time.
I went to this restaurant for lunch on my 21st birthday. Our waitress and hostess were very kind, but overall I had an awful experience here, primarily due to the staff member that appeared to be the owner of the restaurant. Everything started out great, food wasn't outstanding, but we were having a good time as the ambiance was nice. My friend ordered something, and he knew he had a nut allergy but had never had a severe reaction to the degree he did at this restaurant. He tried one of the sauces on the table and started not feeling well. He asked the waiter if anything had nuts and she informed him of what did. He then walked to the bathroom where he passed out and had to have an ambulance take him, and it was overall a pretty scary experience. Staff did not offer to cover any portion of the meal, which I feel like should be standard if something as serious as this happens from eating a dish at your restaurant. We all left in a hurry and were shaken up, and paid even though the bill seemed much more expensive than what we ordered. Then, the worst part was when we were leaving to follow our friend to the hospital, the owner said to us (in the rudest tone I have ever had someone in a customer service position say to me) "he needs to let people know about his allergy BEFORE ordering a meal." This comment was also completely unprovoked, and given that he had never had a reaction to this degree ever before, it was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. It is not that difficult to be kind and compassionate, and I probably wouldn't have left a review if it weren't for that comment. Also no allergens are labeled on the menu for specific items, which would have been helpful for avoiding this situation in the first place.
I would like to preface this by saying that the waitress, hostess, and staff who assisted us today were wonderful, and I am grateful for how attentive and kind they were throughout our visit. I would have left this alone if it weren't for the older man, presumably the owner, standing in front of the restaurant. We came to the restaurant for a lunch as a party of six. One member of our group has a gluten dietary restriction, so we felt seafood would be a safe option. Unfortunately, it was not made clear on the menu that certain dishes also contained nuts. It was only after one of our party members experienced a serious allergic reaction that we noticed a general warning at the bottom of the menu regarding nuts and shellfish. The top of the menu also shows "nut-free available" and you would think that the menu item that has no nuts.... would have no nuts right? Specifically, the Mixed Seafood Grill does not have nuts on the actual dish, but comes with sauce on the side. NOWHERE ON THE MENU does it show a sauce OR at the minimum show NUTS on the ingredient list AT ANY DEGREE on either the physical or online menu. In contrast, other menu items clearly list sauces such as pesto (which typically contains nuts), tartar sauce, or even explicitly state pine nuts. This inconsistency made it very difficult to identify allergens at a glance, and my s/o had a terrible allergic reaction leading him to pass out within MINUTES of having a tiny bit of the sauce. What made this visit leave a horrible taste in my mouth was the older man standing outside the establishment, possibly the owner. He responded rudely by telling us that we should have mentioned allergies. While that may be true, I believe restaurants also have a responsibility to clearly identify which dishes contain common allergens, particularly nuts., and clearer labeling could have prevented a medical emergency and a hospital visit. Clear and consistent allergen labeling is needed, and I do think the staff could do better than to blame customers.
