I usually go to the Breakaway on 501/15, but today I met a friend and we went to Carrboro Breakaway. We both got the FARRO AND ROAST VEGETABLE BOWL, and wow - it was so very good. (maybe next time I will ask for no dressing on the lettuce - not really needed) We both carried more than ½ home with us (it was a good size). The kale was really kale chips - which is exactly what I love. Lovely presentation too! I will be back.
This was cute spot. Probably the prettiest avocado toast I’ve ever had and very tasty. The smoothie was so good!
The food, coffee, and service were all lovely! The standard breakfast sandwich was really substantial, and their lattes were delicious. The house made granola was a bit too sweet, but the amount of fruit in it was very generous. Overall a delightful brunch spot!
Brand new spot in heart of Carrboro with inviting atmosphere, incredible food and coffee and caring friendly staff. This place truly cares about the quality of the food as well as overall experience which is so hard to come by these days!! Would highly recommend and will be back many times. Also do yourself a favor and try one of their freshly baked scones. They are next level goodness and they are addicting.
Great place to meet up with friends for breakfast or a cup of coffee. Dinner is great too. They offer some fun coffee specials and the veg/tofu bowl is a personal favorite.
I love this place. The coffee is great, the food is good, but the people that work here make it special. They are very sensitive, aware and caring people and it shows. Everyone knows it at as breakfast and lunch spot but dinner is great too. The playlist is awesome, all they need are some dimmers on the lights and/or candles on the table and some happy hour spritzers!
I recently tried dinner at Breakaway for the first time, and was very happy with the experience. I always enjoy their breakfast and brunch offerings, but when I discovered that they are now serving dinner, I was interested in trying it out. I went with two other people, and we all really loved our meals. The salmon entree with sweet potatoes and broccoli was delicious, and the chicken sandwich got a rave from one of our party as well. Service was fast and friendly, and it was a pleasant night to eat at the outdoor seating. I hope more folks will give them a try for dinner because it is a real treat. Overall, a great night out and we will be back!
I love this place!! It is one of my favorite spots in town. It’s comfortable, classy, clean and feels nice without feeling stuffy. A great place for a lunch meeting with co-workers, brunch with friends or catching up on your emails on a weekday. A few of my favorite items are the brioche French toast, the cali Benedict, and their breakfast burrito. They offer side options of dressed greens or potatoes both of which are delicious. I also love the mint lemonade and their London fog tea latte. This place feels uniquely and wonderfully Carrboro to me and I love the overall feel. This is my go-to place to take folks who are visiting from out of town because everyone can find something good to eat. The prices are reasonable and the portions are nice (not too big not too small). I love that they allow laptops during the week so I can get my work done but not on the weekends so the tables keep moving and there’s not too much of a wait.
Great little cafe. Trendy. Popular. We had the granola with chia and the breakfast burrito bowl with a side of greens. We both indulged in the Mocha Diablo. The Mocha Diablo is insanely fabulous. Get it. You won't regret it. Everything was great. Food came out fast. Faster than the coffee. Great breakfast spot. Highly recommend. Note, it does get crowded
Yum! Lovely and gorgeous space and outdoor seating. I really enjoyed my huevos rancheros, which came with super ripe avocados. I believe I got an iced cinnamon maple latte which was also lovely for a brunch. The person working the register was also so lovely, patient, and helpful with our meal customizations.
The food was good, the staff was super friendly, and the ambiance was pretty, but what made this place really stand out is how efficient they are about seating! We went on a weekend and normally popular restaurants have a 45+ minute wait for brunch, but in this case, you order at the counter, they let you know what table to go to based on your preferences before you get to the register to order, and they bring your meal to your table, but other than a quick line to order, you are never really standing around waiting.
Saturday morning and we got a table immediately, the girl at the entrance was charming, the service in general was really nice! The vibe is great and beautiful. The food yummy! Everything I had I recommend it. First the basil latte with and almond peach pastry was good, the drip coffee is refilled , so you can grab the small size. The yogurt fruit and granola bowl (add coconut) too much honey for my taste but great! The Amy’s scramble one with toast and one with greens delicious!
Discovered this place using Offline. Otherwise I’d never heard of it or really would drive here. However we had brunch on Saturday and the Dutch baby special was so yummy. My other half had Amy’s scramble and it was also very tasty. I’d def come back here. It’s probably gonna look busy but they’re efficient at what they do. Outside seating is nice.
This place was delicious and in the perfect location! You order at the counter and they bring food out to you. We only waited about 10 minutes in line on a Saturday morning and got our food in about 30 minutes while we drank coffee. The staff was all very friendly! For it being a Saturday it wasn’t too crowded and we easily got a table. They have drip coffee you can serve yourself and milk substitutes available. They also have outside seating and there were some dogs. Highly recommend the Maple Latte and the Breakaway Breakfast! Lots of parking right outside and very close to all the Carrboro charm.
Quirky but pleasant place. It’s an order at the counter establishment, with a pretty decent menu, plus enticing daily baked goods. The spinach and goat cheese omelette was excellent. I love that a salad (leaf lettuce, lightly dressed) is available with the breakfast dishes. But I was surprised by the coffee policy- refills require a return trip to the counter and an additional charge. I haven’t experienced that policy in over 40 years. The 2nd time I went I got a large cup (not many places have different sizes of stoneware cups) to avoid the refill, and it was terrible! Twice as much sugar and cream as usual made it drinkable, so it wasn’t a total washout
The peanut butter banana mocha latte might be my favorite latte of all time! I loved the coffee & tea, and the service was fabulous. The food tasted very good, but the eggs were overcooked and the French toast was undercooked. The manager graciously remade my French toast and it was yummy. One big downside for me was that everything was a la carte, so it was a very expensive meal. I appreciated the variety of pastries and the seating was very comfortable.
Pretty good. If you're into sport cycling, this place speaks to you. The quiche is awesome. Other foods can be really tasty. Coffee's aight. And the young staff are always friendly. Definitely feels overpriced for what comes out on the plate. A single pancake costs over $5 for cryin out loud, and they charge for coffee refills now. I'd just like to get more for the money. I've also never had a fresh baked good here. The scones and muffins are pretty to look at, but they're *always* super dry, like they came out the oven three days ago. It's weird, because for years now every bakery I've been to sells not-fresh items as day olds at a mark down, and there are really great bakeries nearby setting high standards (eg Joe Van Gogh, Cup a Joe). So, Breakaway is good from time to time, but you're paying top dollar like it's a real privilege.
My wife had tried the Chapel Hill location and enjoyed her experience so tried it with her here. It was underwhelming to say the least. Wife and I ordered the brioche egg sandwich (5/5 - brioche bun and egg was made well; finished), brioche french toast (3/5 - no brioche, just regular bread, good otherwise; finished), avocado toast (2/5 - more "greens" than actual avocado: more like guacamole spread than cut avocado; it was so minimal that my wife was able to scrape off the avocado with her fork and eat it with one small bite; did NOT finish remainder of greens and bread), side of potatoes (2/5 - overtly salty, did NOT finish), banana nut mocha (4/5 - intensely bitter coffee but the banana nut flavor masked it well, finished), maple latte (2/5 - bitter coffee that the maple was not able to complement; did NOT finish). Total experience (18/30). Friendly service and relaxed environment. Recommend for the vibes just not for the food.
Drinks are overpriced for being incredibly inconsistent, especially the cappuccinos. I’ve been here before and the cappuccino I got last time was a lot smoother and wetter than today’s. We didn’t get our drinks until after we were done with our food and it didn’t even seem busy. Staff or management should be communicating with customers if they’re backed up. Food was fine, though.
Go elsewhere....Issues described in the other poor reviews are unchanged, waited over 30 min for the food, after waiting 25 min to be seated (but that's understandable). So hungry I bought a carrot cake $8 for the smallest serving of cake I've ever been served. Then food came not hot, potatos so salty we couldn't eat them,.
The service is pretty similar to a Panera Bread-order with the cashier and they bring your order. We ordered 1 pancake, a traditional and Smoked Salmon eggs Benedict. The entire dish had a distinct white vinegar flavor. I thought it was from the poached egg, but the Canadian bacon was sour and the hollandaise sauce was also sour. So we ditched the benes and tried the pancake. First of all there were burnt bits all over it and second, the pancake also tasted SOUR! Perhaps I was just not aware that this is their theme? Feel free to enlighten me. Definitely another $50 miss in the Chapel Hill area.
