Came here today to complete some work... Alan (landlord) was very welcoming and accommodated my visit early morning even though the pub doesn't open till 12. Top bloke .... I Really appreciate the extra mile you've gone to for me today...👍 The piper is lovely and clean and really comfortable with multiple big screen TV's showing sporting events... Pool, darts and electric charging points Great family local with amazing food reviews.

We came here because of electric car charging, but due to good reviews, I gave it a try. Food is very nice with reasonable price, service is prompt and friendly. We tried 2 types of fish and chips. Although both are good, but I recommend Halloumi fish and chips. Cajun fried chicken burger is good too. Yes, the toilet is clean too. Overall good stop and excellent food.

Great Sunday roast, starter mushroom soup was full of flavour. Roast was perfect, meat quality and the vegetables. Generous portions and great value for money! Staff here are welcoming and helpful. Atmosphere is great. Have been for roast twice here both times have been top notch! Highly recommended!

We went here for my mum's birthday as they have a decent gluten free menu (although only 2 dessert options). Our waiter/bartender was Nathan, he was lovely, friendly and did his job well & with a smile. He also brought mum's gluten free meal out first so it wouldn't get confused with other meals which we appreciated. The chef that day was Colin and he did a great job with the food, it was all amazing, I had the Mediterranean linguine which was delicious, the pesto especially was great. The others got fish & chips and my god the fish was huge! The batter on the gluten free fish was nice & crispy which is rare, usually it's soft/mushy at other places so mum was happy about that. All in all it was a wonderful meal(starters & a main), in a nice place with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The place was clean too, including the bathroom.

Had a delicious Sunday dinner! Owner is lovely and they've got events for most days of the week. Loads of seating options, too.

Very friendly staff, lovely food, great price. Can't fault it. We came for the Gluten Free menu in particular and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of choice and very knowledgeable staff as their immediate family are coeliacs.

Our Sunday lunch at The Piper was truly excellent, a rare find. For starters, our party of four had the mozzerella cheese sticks, breaded prawns, and the stilton & garlic mushrooms. The breading on the cheese sticks and prawns was crispy, well-seasoned, and deliciously craggly. All three were excellent. For mains, three of us had the Sunday roast, and one of us the halloumi 'fish' & and chips. As with the starters, the halloumi was deliciously breaded, the chips lovely and crispy, and all of it was generously portioned. But for me, the roasts were the absolute star of the dinner: the beef (pictured) was tender, being a slightly pink medium doneness (I would have preferred slightly rarer, but that is personal taste); the potatoes & parsnips were nicely seasoned and the cabbage & leek was excellent; and the chef even added some beautifully crispy deep-fried kale (it could have been seaweed?) as an inspired umami kick throughout the dish, which complimented the gravy, mash, & crispy yorkshires very nicely. Two of also bought three pigs in blankets each as extras, for £3.50. It was honestly one of the nicest roasts I've had the pleasure of enjoying. For desserts (pictured), we had a vegan cherry sundae (made from delicious coconut ice 'cream'), and the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. Both were very nice and well portioned. Four of us spent just over £100 including soft drinks and the roasts' add-ons, which felt very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Can't wait to return to The Piper for more!

We went for the Christmas light switch on and had such a lovely time. They'd all made such an effort to make it really special, especially for the kids with disco, entertainment, games, snow machine and naughty elf. There were nachos, hot dogs and popcorn in the marquee with hot chocolate and all of the staff had their Christmas jumpers on. The lights are lovely, it was a lovely start to Christmas for us and our little boy had the best time. Looking forward to more special events.

Went for sunday lunch today and wow, it was wonderful! :) Great food, lovely atmosphere and staff are attentive. Food was served quickly. Have been a few times since lockdown was lifted and the new owners took over, will be going again for sure. Great place to eat!

We have been really enjoying the takeaway from here in the last few months- just to be clear they are using the name bull and bird on Deliveroo. Told all our friends and family about it because we have tried alot of the burger places in Chester and these are the best in my opinion. We order the meal deals which works out to be amazing value for what you get and how nice the food is. Highly recommend.

This place is so amazingly clean and the food was wonderful, staff were really lovely. Not in our neck of the woods, otherwise we would make this place our local for definite. Well worth a try if you are in the area ❤️😋

Stopped by after a post regarding a change in their menu and new gluten free options being offered. Was pleasantly surprised and had a nice meal. The manager(?) came over later and spoke about the care they have taken in the preparation. It's nice to go somewhere and feel cared for and will definitely come again. Bouncy castle was also nice to see.

We popped in here to meet some family. Had a great lunch. They were really helpful to accommodate us with wheelchair access and dietary allergies. It was midweek lunchtime so it wasn’t very busy but we had a great time. Thanks

Both me and my wife have just returned to our hotel after a very satisfying meal at the Piper. We took one look at the limited expensive hotel menu and looked for somewhere close and found the piper. The staff were very accommodating and polite; the food was piping hot, tasty and generous portions. Will definitely return when back in the area.

Always excellent third visit this evening with all the family and everyone very impressed. The steak was perfectly cooked. The mushroom bourgenion was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding and the crumble are must haves. Service and atmosphere great too and obviously a locals favourite.

We visited The Piper today, with family and we all ordered the Sunday roast, which was absolutely delicious and piping hot too! Staff were so efficient and very friendly, they made our whole dining experience an enjoyable one. Alan, the landlord, really went out of his way to make sure all his guests were well looked after, he has a great team and manages them well. Many thanks, to Alan & staff, we can’t wait to return again soon! 5 stars all round! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Plates cleared by all, including the children's. Everything came well presented. Quick with service. The gluten free menu: good selection to choose from - the fish and chips was amazing. Lovely light batter!! The manager was brilliant at talking everything through with me. As a coeliac I felt confident with eating there.

We visited The Piper for a family meal out on a Wednesday evening, having heard about their gluten free menu. We received a friendly welcome and from then on the service was excellent. A good choice of meals with 3 of us opting for the £12.99 for 2 courses menu and 1 choosing from the gluten free menu. All of the food was delicious, cooked well and nicely presented. We didn’t feel rushed but we were not kept waiting either. We will definitely be visiting The Piper again!

Turned up today with 10 family members. I am gluten intolerant and since being diagnosed haven't found a decent gf burger. The food and service were amazing especially as they were short staffed. The attention to detail meeting my dietary needs was excellent Everyone enjoyed their meals and the value for money exceptional. I can't wait to return for a Sunday roast

J
Julia Morris

Tried the Christmas menu, as a gluten free person it was fantastic - Yorkshire pudding and stuffing alone is a godsend as we don’t normally get it! The dessert - fantastic and again it was gluten free! It all had taste if you are gluten free you know what I mean

We stopped by this pub on a whim after facing a long wait at Toby Carvery—and we’re so glad we did! What started as a backup plan turned into a brilliant surprise. The food was absolutely spot on: full of flavour, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and more than happy to accommodate custom tweaks to our orders without hesitation. It’s rare to find a place that nails both the food and the hospitality, but this one truly delivered. Top marks from us. We’ll definitely be back—and next time, it’ll be our first choice!

Right little sneaky Gem this one, quiz night on a Wednesday is a must, great food and right good atmosphere. Everyone is super friendly and I highly recommend you pop in here if you are passing through. Tidy gaff

Booked this place for a big family Sunday lunch purely on location, but it turned out to be a great choice. Didn’t look that promising to start with as it’s a cavernous place and there was virtually no-one there at 1pm on a Sunday. But the roasts were excellent — a lot better than many pub roasts — and very reasonably priced too. Even the roast potatoes were great. Everyone enjoyed their food, so would definitely recommend.

We had a getaway to chester and stayed at Doubletree in Hoole. We were looking for a close nice pub to have dinner, i found the Piper and it is such a lovely pub! Great food, friendly people, can tell it is a great pub by how many people use it. Highly reccommend

Popped in for a little evening meal. Took advantage of the 2 courses for £12.99. We weren't disappointed the food was great and the drinks reasonable too. Great place for adults and families.

Very warm welcome. Clean and tidy venue, but with slightly dinged decor. Quirky hand written menus, with a decent choice of classic pub grub. Food was served at a good pace, came piping hot and tasted great.

P
Purple Flower

Surprising good! All food freshly cooked, no boil in the bag microwave food. Family friendly. Something for everyone, toy corner, big screens with footie, quieter areas with no TV. Staff really friendly. Outside been revamped. Only quibble is that the inside still needs a makeover. Would definitely go again.

Not been here for years. Called in for a quick pint while waiting for my lift. Large pub, with plenty of tables, inside and out, sport on the TV. They serve food but didn't have time to eat, but looked a good varied menu, will try when I come back and have more time.

S

Well cooked hot food. The rump steak well cooked and surprisingly tender. Thought the burger & chicken burger well presented too. Good service. Only slight criticism, we were sat by a television that was extremely loud so struggled to talk to each other. As not busy we should have moved tables. We would definitely return.

G

Good grub reasonable prices friendly staff could do with a few more choices of tap Beers only downside is I wish parents could control their kids a bit more especially when Sunday lunches are being served. We didn't have a Sunday lunch lot's of others were and to be fair it looked and smelled good.

Decent pub, quiet when we went but to be expected at that time in the week. My daughter ate dinner there which went down well, unusual as she's a fussy eater usually.

E

Had an excellent fish and chips!! Really tasty! Service little bit slow but I think they just need more staff on the bar … having said that the barmaid was very good it was just busy when we arrived. Would definitely go again! Highly recommend. However hate frozen chips if they done real chips would be amazing!

It's not often that I'm catfished by a website but The Piper's site definitely makes it look like a more upmarket dining pub and not the bog standard sports local that it is. The food is basic but nicely done which is fine if you want to eat surrounded by at least eight noisy screens blaring out the football - we didn't. Bar service only.

T
Terry Byrne

Don't go to this pub if you just want a chat a meal and a drink. Live music by bands that cannot sing (awful). Also you might end up with a load of motorbikes. The noise from the music and bikes, Deafening !!! So glad I don't live local, it must again "Awful" won't be going back !!!!
