Always been amazing food. So happy they finally got their big upgraded building. So much room. Beautiful set up. And even a private event room. I hear servicing beer is next! They'll have it all. Worth going!
Update ! Management took care of all my issues very quickly and I will definitely be back . Great service absolutely trumps mistakes every time. !!! So I was very very excited to try this place now that I live on this side of town right around the corner . I ordered two shrimp burritos and added steak and Barrilla sauce to dip the burritos in and a cheese quesadilla . It didn’t take to long to put what I thought was my order together I would say 10-15 minutes so again still fine for not calling ahead . When my buzzer to get my food came up I walked to the counter and saw two identical burritos (one was supposed to be either no or lights sour cream I left it up to them which ever was more convenient as sour cream can be a hassle if it’s to cold I was fine with none) but no I got two identical burritos . Ok . But my son’s quesadilla wasn’t there and hasn’t even been started and at this point I will just grab him a burger as I don’t want to be there for a quesadilla to be cooked . Mind you I paid $40 for two burritos with shrimp and steak (full portions of each) . I don’t mind paying that honestly as long as I’m disgustingly full after haha . Or I can split it into two meals . No not the case because after getting my $6 refund for my missing quesadilla and finally got my barilla sauce which one of the containers the lid was barely on so it just ended up in the bag and all over my car . I thought for sure they would get the plastic lids on the styrofoam cups correctly as they hold very well out of all of the soup type containers . Nope mine had a tear in the lid very visible and just completely lazily overlooked mind you NO BODY ELSE WAS IN THE RESTAURANT AND ONE SINGLE MAN CAME BEHIND ME !!! lol so for three employees behind the counter there should be literally no mistakes ( I’m cool with mistakes as everyone’s human) . Every single thing I ordered was missing or messed up . So I get home . Let it go and just sit down to eat my treat . I paid $8 to add steak to my burritos for me and my friend. And of course . NO STEAK !!!! Zero !!! I paid for a full portion not none lol . They absolutely could not have messed anything else up and again I was the ONLY CUSTOMER !!! So also I got an attitude from the employees obviously like I was being picky of course . Being in fine dining in San Francisco for 20 years I know the absolute tip top of the food industry . I know what is able to be accomplished with good food good employees and adequate management , I would have obviously bought my meal . The mark up on food is usually around 78-75% obviously that fluctuates . So buying my food they would have lost $10 but Gained that back the next three times I come or less . I eat out very often . Then they would have had a for ever customer because the taste of the food was actually REALLY good . Minus it not being spicy at all and I asked for it to be very spicy . Again that can be over looked because the flavor of the shrimp was exactly what I wanted today !!!! That salty buttery oily shrimp nicely seasoned with whole pintos and rice !! Ugh , but I mean I jahbe a list of no Karen issues !!! So why on earth would I ever go back? There are 87 Mexican restaurants in Chico and another 29 taco trucks some being much better than restaurants . So no I will not go back . I did not take my very generous tip (especially for counter service which was 25% ) but I do not like paying for what I did not receive . That’s insane to me . It’s my only “must” if I pay for something I insist that I revive that item . Anyways for them not being busy at all and me being the only guest my meal should have been so fresh and so incredibly perfect that there is just no excuse for the 9 mistakes . So I would have to say do not eat here . There are so many good Mexican places : REAL AUTHENTIC mexican places and food trucks. There is no room for this kind of nightmare experience . Again I will NEVER eat the again and I all pre you to please follow .
Had two of their grill tacos at the new location and they were delicious!
The funny thing about this place, for me, is that it became my and my dad's favorite Mexican restaurant without either of us telling each other about it. He just started raving to me about the wet burrito he got at "the yellow-painted place down the street." I'm no food connoisseur and I haven't had a huge variety of their dishes, but I will say their burritos are phenomenal. I do not like California burritos. I LOVE Aztlan's California burritos. So good. The service is top notch, but not in the traditional sense. When you walk in and order, you may not be greeted with cheery hellos and welcomes and waves-- for me that's just the bonus cherry on top, and not the substance of good service. Don't let their soft-spoken countenance make you overlook their efficiency and dedication. They will take your order, answer your questions, quickly get your order in and your change/receipt in your hand, and with as much mindfulness to speed get your food to you in really good time. If there's something wrong or a mistake was made, or even if you have special requests, they will work with you with no fuss.
Calm atmosphere, delicious food and generous portions!
If you are looking for good authentic Mexican food, you have found the place. This is really good and I've tried many places, this is one of the best places in Chico. They are really friendly, they make everything fresh, and they go over and beyond to make sure you're happy with the meal and that you have everything you need to enjoy. Their horchatas are to die for, please give it a try. They have lots to offer from street tacos to burritos to quesadillas! Their steak and chicken are yummy!
3rd time there. Did not disappoint! Great food, atmosphere and service
First time visiting this Taqueria… The grilled chicken tacos were truly amazing. I enjoyed every bite. I was going to go to La Hacienda but it was closed so I came down the street to this place and I’m glad I did
Service was incredible. Street tacos were even more incredible. Don’t skip on the red hot sauce. 5stars. If I’m ever back in Chico, I know I’ll be coming back.
My wife took a bite of my Birria tacos and instantly love this restaurant. The flavor is incredible. We also got a chili Rihanna and a horchata drink. I can't wait to go back this is my new favorite restaurant. Prices are very good!
They moved to a bigger place next door, same parking lot. You order and then seat yourself. The food came quickly. The portions are generous. Everything was delicious. It's very clean. There is a room you can reserve for parties.
Nice new digs for a growing business. Very friendly and the guy was Totally in love with what they were doing and liked sharing his enthusiasm. The food was excellent, we had the recommended crispy tacos, good sized and delicious. He was very excited about his friend doing the exterior murals and they were spectacular. Maybe best Mex in Chico!!
This place is a hidden gem in Chico. We drove down from Redding just to eat their famous BBQ full chicken. It was delicious. Service is great and a very clean place.
Can't wait till Friday. I feel in love with the ribs and chicken combo with all the fixings. Today we for lunch and I ordered Aztlan asada fries. My wife ordered the grilled tacos with carne asada f#*k$&g amazing!!!! 10+ all the time and the hefeay (don't know Spanish 😊) always respectable and outgoing.
Aztlan’s asada grilled tacos are the best I’ve ever had in my entire life — and I don’t make that claim lightly. I crave them often… which means I end up here at least once a week to scratch the itch. The tortillas are grilled to the happiest medium of both soft & crispy, cheese is melted on the inside of the tortilla which prevents shreds from recklessly falling out with each bite, the meat is so fresh and flavorful, and the taco is overflowing with crunchy lettuce and fresh diced tomatoes. Not to be dramatic, but if I had the foresight to choose a last meal… this would be it. Service is hit or miss depending on who’s working, and honestly that would normally detract from a review I give… but damn, those tacos.

Very delicious spot. A place where the burrito can stand on its own! The birria is definitely delicious and the portions are generous!
Amazing lunch with super fresh ingredients! The carne asada tacos were amazing and the portions generous. Served by a super friendly staff! These guys have it dialed in! GO!!! You will not be disappointed!
Aztlan provided catering for our baby shower this weekend. The portions were huge and the service was incredible. Their staff are so friendly. The food was packaged with care. And the best part? Everything was SO delicious. The food here is amazing. The owner is very flexible and kind. They host parties here as well, so if you’re looking for a place to host your next event or a go to for catering- or just a weeknight burrito- go to Aztlan!’
Absolutely bussin. The burritos were so bussinnnnn. Seriously though the burros were massive and delicious. A wee pike like me ate the whollleee thing. It was like 3 pounds maybe more. Cheap boy too. Only a 10 piece.
Aztlan Grilled is Outstanding over So many mexican places in Chico. Really clean food and more flavor than most in the rice and beans alone! They bbq a lot of their meat which provides even more flavor and the prices are far lower that any other sit down restaurants (Only $14 for fajitas). + Their new building has a wicked awesome Aztec painting and beautiful neon Bible versus on the inside. I Love these folks
Love getting food here the burritos are fantastic. I even buy their Horchata and it is so good. I love it. The service here is amazing always friendly. The food is fantastic and the fact that they opened up a bigger restaurant makes it even better. I highly recommend stopping off here and trying their food
Had a number 4 combo which is two Quesabirris beans and rice. The food was excellent and the friendly atmosphere was great. They really went out of their way to make our lunch great!
The Sunday chicken special is a steal of a deal! Good BBQ taste and not as "dry" as you'd expect it to be. Staff are tentative and overall very nice.
Super cute and professional place! First time going there, got carnitas crispy tacos & a burrito, both packed, full of meat, well seasoned, and delicious!!! My husband got the aztec shrimp, beautifully butterflied, and good amount. Plates were pretty well portioned, and they were quick. I recommend 1,000%, we will be back!

Birria tacos are really good. The carna asada burrito is amazing. Nachos are better with shredded cheese instead of the sauce in my opinion.
I just went to Aztlan based on recommendations. Three comments: 1) Yes, the burrito was a good size for the money and the Al Pastor flavor was really good. 2) However, points off for too much rice in the burrito (probably made up for about 1/3 to 1/2 the total bulk). The correct amount of rice in a burrito is none. 3) No chips and salsa nor salsa bar, just little cups of red and green sauce. That was disappointing. The service, however, was good, prompt, and friendly. Overall, 4 stars out of 5. I'll ask for half the rice next time. I'd ask for none, but I feel like they'd not be happy with that request, and/or the resulting burrito would be tiny. I was going to say 3.6 stars, but then I remembered that the service was actually pretty good, and that counts for a lot. Also oddly, and I don't count this as a positive or negative, just odd... there was a Christmas tree up. Not lit nor decorated, but just... there. Odd.
We had street tacos, supreme burrito, wet burrito. Every thing was delicious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is we asked for no sour cream on the wet burrito, it had sour cream. Also, it would have been better with a little more sauce. Another improvement would be real flatware, not plastic meal was very enjoyable.
In my opinion, this is the best place in town to get a burrito. Their nachos are just okay, but if you want a boss burrito this is the place to go. The burritos are huge, priced very reasonably, and if you order meat in it you'll get a generous amount rather than a bunch of bean or lettuce filler like some other places. I highly recommend adding the nacho cheese option to it because it's what makes the burrito exceptional. (The large McDonald's soda cup in the picture is for burrito size reference). Their battered fish street tacos are excellent too. Tip: ask for your taco tortilla to be grilled. Update October 2022: In light of inflation everyone has raised their costs, but some places have also cut back on quality and portion in addition to charging more. That's why I'm updating all my reviews, to share with you what restaurants are still hanging on to their pre-pandemic quality and portion sizes. I'm happy to say Aztlan is one of them. I've included a photo similar to my original one to illustrate this. Update, March 2024: Okay, so, in my original review, I wrote the nachos off as meh, but I decided to give them another try. This time I removed the chipotle sauce that comes on it and added their green tomatillo salsa; so much better. Their chipotle sauce is absolutely fantastic on the fish tacos, but for me, it was an odd flavor profile on nachos. Anyway, in summary, the nachos are great. Try them. Also, if you haven't tried the quesaburria tacos, do yourself a favor and get some! TIP: spoon the remaining birria sauce over your nachos. You're welcome. Update May 2025: Still fat amazing burritos as here! If you like guacamole and sour cream, I highly recommend upgrading your burrito experience to a burrito supreme. I've included my classic burrito-with-a-soda for reference pic along with an updated photo of the quesabrita tacos. Aztlans really does have the best birria in Chico, in my opinion.
My family and I dined here on a whimsy, and were thoroughly impressed. I ordered the QuesaBirria Tacos, which came with beans, rice, lime wedges, and consume'. They were flavorful, packed with meat and cheese, and grilled to a crunchy perfection. The consume' was outstanding, and served as a wonderful accompaniment. I also ordered 2 chicken street tacos to go with it, and THEY were overflowing with chicken, onions, and cilantro. My children ordered 2 burritos, 1 regular beef and 1 Cali. MORE than enough for 2 meals, and again... packed so full of ingredients that they were spilling out with every bite. And while I had a Coke with my meal, the girls had 2 Horchatas with theirs, saying it was the perfect blend of Cinnamon and milk. This place has it down... some of the best Birria in town. They have definitely got some repeat customers in us.

I want to like this place. Great new location, but maybe working out the kinks. Soda machine not working, no salsa bar, food was decent, but some in our group said it was unpredictable and not as good as before. Will try again.
New place looks great, and I remember the food being good. I would have liked to try it, but I waited 10 minutes without service.
Was there a few weeks ago and my family and I got sick after eating here. The horchata was rancid and we bought two of them without knowing. There were also dead cockroaches near the sitting area. Definitely not going back here.
All those glowing reviews about this place being very good are debatable, inaccurate, specious. Certainly tonight it was proven after spending almost $32 for two willing to enjoy the many endorsements. 2 Grilled Fish Tacos Combo, $12.99? Tacos 🌮 shell tasting cheap, old oil, 4 boiled medium shrimp in one, 3 in the other, saturated with shredded lettuce, few diced tomatoes, and a thousand island type sauce. Boiled shrimp? This is the big hit? Sorry, no dice! 1.5 Stars. Refried beans almost cold but better than their famous tacos, 3.5 Stars. Rice fluffy, 3 Stars. One Grilled Shrimp Taco/1 Grilled Battered Fish Taco, $12.99? Same disappointing shrimp tacos, more lettuce and less shrimp, please? Boiled is just fine, thanks. 1.5 Stars. Fish taco over fried, deep dark, perhaps more batter deep fried than actual fish, shredded lettuce galore! They wouldn’t touch it with a fishing pole! 1Star. Chips and Salsa, $3.75? Chips ugly after taste, Red Salsa old, stale, unsavory. Even the most humble Mexican place worth its mettle, dispensed chips for no additional price, even in small serving. 1 Star. No clean water, just bottles for purchase. Tight wads, less than expected. Total almost $33? Don’t know. I been getting my share of mediocre places and my wallet knows it. Yet, business appeared healthy so obviously I won’t even cause a ripple in their numbers. Shrimp tacos? Fish? Not here, resent the food they served me tonight. 2 Stars.
I have been a loyal customer of Aztlan for years before this location was even open, always enjoyed their food and atmosphere. However, my recent experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Unfortunately, the tacos we received were far from the quality we’ve come to expect. The tortillas tasted so foul and smelt like rancid meat had been prepared next to them or maybe stored next to it. We have been here a million times and the tortillas never looked this brown and I promise the smell was so bad I couldn’t eat it and honestly ruined my appetite it was that odd. When I called the restaurant to express my concerns, I was met with rude and unhelpful service. I tried to politely explain the issue, but the person on the phone was dismissive and clearly uninterested in resolving the problem. When I asked to speak to a manager, I overheard her say “they want a refund, should I just tell them no” Then proceeded to tell me “yah sorry we’re not doing a refund” regarding my request for a refund. This level of being rude for no reason and poor customer service was so unnecessary, literally the first thing I was telling her when she answered was that we love to come here and I hate to do this, but something off this time and we can’t eat it, but she couldn’t care less. After working 12 hours and being hungry craving something then be let down sucked. After getting off the phone I decided to drive back because I was in shock as they are always so nice, I got there and gave her the tortillas in foil so she could see I was being truthful and her face when she opened up the foil validated my concern, she was still just dismissive so before I left I said you should probably smell them because your serving people these. No offer to make it up in any shape or form, I didn’t get a refund or even my food remade. It’s incredibly frustrating to have a place I’ve loved so much act like this. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and makes the necessary changes to restore the quality and service that Aztlan was once known for. The pictures are the Birria taco which was fried but still tasted awful. The other two pictures are the Brown Foul Smelling tortillas on top, for comparison a normal looking white corn tortilla thats under the meat is one we made from home to try and save at least the meat (but still the meat wasn’t even good, so we didn’t eat anything).

It would’ve been nice if we didn’t have to sit there and listen to loud Christian music the whole time we were eating. It is inconsiderate and too loud. The food wasn’t that bad in fact I’m still full hours later. They had good beans as well. Also, there’s no hot sauce or salsa or anything to put on your food at the table or on the counter where other items are like salt and plasticware. When I asked for some, they didn’t even know what I was talking about. Like as if I’m the first person to ask for hot sauce… It might just be better to get this food to go because the pricing was legit.

I’ve been coming to this taco place regularly because the food is good, but the service is consistently terrible. The woman with curly hair, who is always there, is incredibly rude. On my last visit, I went in before closing, and before I could even order, she told me, “We aren’t doing your tacos.” On another occasion, we placed an order, and she responded with, “If the cook wants to do it.” All we wanted was for the tortillas to be grilled, which isn’t too much to ask, yet we keep getting attitude about it. At one point, they told us if we wanted the tortillas grilled, we couldn’t order over the phone. When we went in person instead, it became another issue altogether. If they can’t make the food because it’s getting close to closing time, then the doors should be locked, and the open sign should be turned off. These repeated issues make it clear that business practices need serious improvement. The customer should be able to get their food the way they like it—especially something as simple as grilled tortillas—and the cook shouldn’t dictate what gets made. My family and I have spent a lot of money here, but there’s no loyalty to regular customers. After these experiences, I will not be returning.
My family and I have gone to this restaurant every time we visited Chico, because they have good food. But, every time we went the service kept getting worse and worse and the lady that would usually take the order would be very rude and make it a hassle to make any modifications especially to the breaded shrimp tacos. We were told if we wanted our tortillas “grilled” for the breaded shrimp taco we wouldn’t be able to place the order over the phone anymore and we must place it in person, which is a huge inconvenience. We didn’t let that stop us and we did as they asked and placed our orders in person and we would still get rude remarks such as “if the cook feels like it.” Or “we are not making your order this close to closing.” You would think a restaurant would value customers that spend over hundreds of dollars at their establishment would be able to get a simple tortilla grilled. I can’t recall the lady’s name but she had curly hair and a darker skin tone, this employee was extremely rude each time and was the one we had most issues with. We won’t be returning to this restaurant anytime soon, which is a shame because they have good food but terrible attitudes. Until management gets there employees in order and take accountability this place will not be able to reach its full potential.
Stay away. Food was baaad. Chili relleno tasted like a prepackaged product, and the cheese inside was a barely warm solid block. The tomatoe sauce over the relleno was horrendous!...tasted like tomatoe sauce with a little seasoning. The beans did not taste fresh and the rice ....saltysalty.
Not very good. Enchiladas were cold and bland. The cheese inside was not melted. The street tacos smelled funky, like rotting corn. Each dish just tasted "off". Maybe the tortillas were bad. It is beyond me how they keep getting such great reviews. The food pics on the menu look good and enticing, but not so in reality.
Combo meal we ordered to go did not come with rice and beans like it said it would.
Not a fan of this place. Had to push the seat closer to the table cause they were so far away. Wanted water with my meal and the water from the fountain machine tasted horrible. Ended up having to buy fountain drinks. Ordered burritos and enchiladas. The burritos tasted like they had mayonnaise and a strange seasoning in them. Ended up throwing them both away. Ordered the enchiladas and they were so tangy. Tried scarping the meat out but the sauce got on that too so ended up throwing those away as well. Had chips and salsa and the chips were super rubbery. Choose this place to have my birthday dinner at because I had heard such good things about this restaurant. Will not be going here again.
