Los Portales de Comitan Comitán Reviews
I had a wonderful sopa Azteca, and my partner had fish. Both dishes were well prepared and delicious.
These guys are so lovely I had the menu Del Dia, which was a whole fried fish, soup, coffee and juice for 150 pesos. It was so good I went back for breakfast! They happily altered the breakfast de la casa to make it without bacon and poured me endless bottomless cups of coffee, without me even asking!
You'll find it in the center of Comitán, right on the sidewalks, making it easy to see. It also has ample space both inside and out. The service is friendly and efficient, and on our last visit, they waited for us even after the scheduled opening hours. The food and portions are adequate. Overall, a highly recommended place that competes with the others.
Nice vegan and vegetarian options!! Difficult to find anywhere else in town. They have enchiladas de soya, burrito de soya, ceviche de soya and vegetarian pizza. The service was very cordial.
The location is next to the plaza, and they have music to liven up your day. In the morning, I ordered Huevos Mayas, a combination of fried plantain, egg, melted cheese, green salsa, and beans. I really liked the flavor. In the afternoon, I ordered a Platón Chiapaneco (Sirloin smothered in chipotle sauce). It was a bit thick and difficult to cut, but I liked it for making tacos. The salsa was delicious with its slightly spicy flavor. For breakfast, we also ordered artisan bread, apparently made with oatmeal and butter, accompanied by artisanal chocolate (I recommend the hot chocolate). It took a little longer than usual to serve. The waitress' service was good. I should note that bars in the south of Mexico charge tips without warning. I recommend the place, even though it's not exceptional.
The only restaurant around the Central Park with good vegan options on the menu! We went here twice for the spaghetti, vegan burritos, and tostadas. The service was excellent and we highly recommend for vegans and meat eaters alike! Plus a nice spot to people watch in Central Park.
Only place with vegan options and amazing service with a beautiful view.
A place with a dish based on bread, pork leg, and pickled carrots; the combination of flavors is truly delicious. The waiters' service is very warm and courteous; they truly pamper you, and the view is charming, overlooking Central Park. When it rains, sitting on that terrace sipping a delicious coffee makes it even more enjoyable. Don't miss the Rosario Castellanos Cultural Center at night, an exquisite building.
Awesome service and the only restaurant with proper vegan options on the menu. Highly recommended!
I ate the Salmon a las Finas Hierbas, no idea what the herbs were for there were none, but the salmon was prepared to perfection and the plate was well plated with a nice fresh salad and a tasteful bit of guacamole which I really liked. Wonderful lunch! My son ate crepas, and they were rich, buttery, crisp, very well prepared as well. And we enjoyed the nearly perfect limonada natural which offered a good balance between sweet and sour. Service with a smile! perfect! Please do not include the tip in the bill, it is not allowed in Mexico, the tip is for the customer to decide not for the restaurant to demand.
Okay..
I went because I wanted a glass of wine and well, what they serve you is not bad, the food is average, it is not very good to be honest, the service is good to catch you if you are walking by, to serve you it is not bad but it is not good either, you have to go looking for them, the bathroom is horrible, the sink does not work and they have a plastic tub for you to wash there and they do not have towels to dry yourself, I asked for the bill and it already included the 10% service according to the recommended ticket but it is already included in the bill and that is not legal, it was not a bitter experience but it is not a very pleasant one either, you can go through Comitan and ignore this place and all the ones on the sides 🤣 they are all a small tourist trap 🫣 and the service is incompetent.
They insist you eat at their restaurant only to then offer poor service. They are very slow in everything, even though there weren't many people there. The pork shank is passable, the hamburgers are made with supermarket meat, and it took them 1 hour and 20 minutes to prepare four hamburgers. Not to mention that it seems the tip is hidden in the receipt. In short, a bitter experience. As the cherry on top, the bathrooms are next to the kitchen, which according to health codes shouldn't be.
The food they served me was terrible. They shouldn't prepare pork shank if they don't know how. I asked the waiter to check with the kitchen beforehand, choosing between pork shank and roast pork. They suggested the shank. We ordered the pork shank first, then soup, chalupas, and drinks. They served everything, we ate and drank everything, but there was no pork shank. The waiter told me to wait 10 more minutes, and when they brought it, it was cold. He sent it back to the kitchen, and after another wait, it arrived dry and tough, even though they said the meat would be tender.
Very disappointing - ordered Pollo Rellanos and got Pollo a la plancha. Small portion, not hot, and spoiled guacamole. Poor service. Watery Agua Pina. Not recommended!
