Gringo's Tex-Mex Conroe Reviews
Met up with one of my friends for lunch. I had gotten there a bit early and they went ahead and seated me. Hayden went out of her way to help me while I was there. She is a great server! Food was plentiful at a great price. We ended up staying 2 hours and Hayden never tried to rush us out the door. We really appreciate you so much. Thank you for a great experience at your restaurant.
Service was great! Tried the cheese enchiladas and the gravy wasn’t my favorite but everything else was Delicious! Started with great green dip and queso, then the charo beans were the best I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. My toddler got a cup of fruit and I really appreciated that they cut everything in small pieces, especially the grapes! We’ll for sure come back when in the area.
Seen this place and really had to try this place. So really glad myself and my co workers stopped by. Our server Hayden, hands down the best. She could read the customers and knew to relax and have fun. Hayden is an amazing lady and really attentive to each and everyone that sits in her section. Going to make sure to always stay in her section. If you get a chance try the Pastor Bowl was very good. The bowl came out just as the picture on the menu. Not many places can do this. The tortillas are fresh made and are very delicious. After the food they also offer a free self serve ice cream cone. The atmosphere was really inviting.
Good food! I got the Rodriguez combo plate and it was delicious. Portion was big enough for 2 meals for me! Next time I definitely want to try their fajita bowl.
I have never visited a Gringos before but it was awesome Tex-Mex. The wait staff were exceptional. The food was terrific. The atmosphere was quiet and easy to have a conversation. I ordered a plate with combo chicken and beef fajitas along with shrimp enbrochette. The food was unique and terrific. It came with a sauce containing shrimp and crawfish tails over the fajitas slices. I do not mean to slight the Gringo's in Conroe blwith 4 stars for atmosphere but I very rarely give a perfect 5 stars for everything. Again the food and servers were exceptional. I have a new favorite Tex-Mex place. Our group for this visit was all disabled veterans. I'd like to add that disabled parking was well planned to give vehicles plenty of room for removing and loading canes walkers service animals etc between vehicles
The food was very tasty. We’ve tried the steak quesadillas, tacos, tortilla soup and southwest egg rolls. All were delicious. Portions are good. We were served by Mr. Ryan. He was truly a great server. Very knowledgeable of menu items and was one of the kindest waiters we’ve ever met. Lord willing we’ll be back!
For Isa; not only our server but she is what is still giving hope to American diners. We are Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen frequent flyer members on their Tex-Mex Insider app. I have reviewed Gringo’s several times already and no rating has changed for me. Service is always great. Food is always great. Place is always clean, including bathrooms. The self-serve all you care to indulge in soft-serve ice cream is always Free. Even sitting in the waiting room has a grand old South-of-the-Border feel, and the outdoor overflow seating is about nice enough to just visit and spend some time sitting and listening to the pouring water from the fountain… the surprisingly comfortable Adirondak style chairs on the always perfectly manicured Astro Turf🙂, surrounded by the towering front stone walls, staggeringly tall windows and matching stone courtyard walls. Even situated right off the Highway (at some locations) is still surprisingly relaxing and quiet; as outdoor quiet and playing kids can be anyway. None of that is the purpose of this review… Isa, our server is. I mean service is always prompt and friendly. It’s a fun, popping atmosphere and I have never seen a “slow” time in these places. But, Isa went out of her way, even though we only ordered water to drink, and two entrees. Even though we brought 3 little crumb-crunchers with us. Even though we weren’t running up the large tabs most of the tables do. Even though we are cashing in our “bonus” free queso from our Insider card, and the $5 off also from our Insider card. She treated us like we were high-rollers trying the place out and this is the one chance for a lasting impression. She smiled in a real way, you rarely see in employees at work. Anything we asked was “no problem” and “of course”. To top it off she took one of the pictures for us below, packed us up with a fresh bag of the tortilla chips (famous with the kids we didn’t bring, back at the house) I only hope that her spark is noticed by somebody in charge of making sure she is rewarded for her representation of an already great establishment. Russell Ybarra (the creator of Gringo’s) would be proud. In case we didn’t say it enough…. Thank You, Isa!
From the moment Donovan greeted us, his customer service was outstanding, friendly, attentive, and genuinely personable without being overbearing. His product knowledge was excellent, and his suggestions were spot-on. Every recommendation he made turned out to be a great choice. I was on a date, and Donovan has a natural way of reading the table, he made everything feel comfortable and relaxed, never awkward. That kind of awareness and professionalism makes a huge difference. Great food, great atmosphere, and exceptional service. We’ll absolutely be back and hope to have Donovan again.
Had a great experience at Gringos! The food was delicious as always. Ryan, our waiter, was amazing—super attentive, friendly, and on top of everything. His personality truly made the meal even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!
We had a great time. Our waiter Logan was great! . Food was very good. We had fajitas for two and it was plenty for our table of four. If in Conroe and looking for Mexican food I think this is one of the better options. Margaritas were very good as well.
A bit of a mix up with our seating had us a little concerned with how the dinner would go, but once we were seated, it all worked out! Our server, Kaylee Davis was all smiles and fun, and handled all our requests quickly. The food was excellent, only downside was the table we were seated at was in a very noisy area next to the bar and kitchen. I totally recommend anything with the Marisco sauce!!
Absolutely wonderful. We ordered the queso with the complimentary chips and salsa. The burrito supreme has the queso over the top and the beef inside was seasoned very well. We also ordered the presidente, the cold portion was very fresh and the second plate which was warm was simple but delicious. We teased Ryan (our waiter) he was a great sport and knowledgeable about the menu. It's great for a dinner for two or a large family. Highly recommend.
My family and I had a great experience today. Our server Ryan did and outstanding job making sure we had all we needed. Our drinks were never empty. His attentiveness to our family was great. He did interact with us and made us feel at home. The food is always great and reasonably priced. The restaurant is super clean. I would recommend this place to all my family and friends, especially this location.
First...let start by giving Carson a big shout out for going above and beyond. I had the opportunity to come by and eat at this great location and it was amazing. The plate pictured is the "Chicken Enchiladas Suizas". This plate was cooked to perfection. The Enchiladas were pretty big and I was only able to finish 2 of them. The chicken had a great flavor. I was also able to try some of the "Pastor Bowl" and yhe flavor was....WOW! Smokey flavored, with grilled pineapple. I will be returning soon to try more of their delicious food
Dear Friends, If you want to save on air tickets and experience real Mexico, don’t travel by car—just visit El Gringo! Healthy food, festive vibes, and a fun place for parties all in one. I’m adding some pics of the place so you can see the amazing atmosphere yourself. Special thanks to Santiago for giving me such a great experience—when you visit, make sure to call him to your table, he’ll make your time here even more special. Highly recommended!
Tremendous! The staff is beyond attentive, friendly and amazing! The food was delicious! 🤌Clean! Great vibes ! Also, I dropped my air pods in the restroom stall could not find them … thought I probably misplaced them at home, called the restaurant and someone turned them!!! Omg I still can’t believe I got them back! I’m highly grateful and I definitely will be coming back!
We went to this Gringos after church Sunday morning before the lunch rush came and it was a great experience. The waiter we got was great and fast with all of our request - he had our drinks refilled every time we got low and was very friendly. We got the sampler as an appetizer and it was all really good, but I wasn’t too fond on the empanada. Food came out fast and tasted great. Would recommend 10 out of 10!
If you order Nachos Togo or to be delivered. Order the chips to be put in its own container separate from the toppings. I forgot to do this and even though the queso comes on the side, my chips were so soggy that it ruined the nachos. Something about a limp chip just makes it taste bad. Scrapped the toppings off and added my own chips, the toppings and the queso! Now it tastes amazing!! Enjoy, bon appetite!
Great food but, this is a very busy restaurant. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table and the waitress was average in timing and speed of service. There are many Mexican restaurants in the area. That being said, I will probably not dine here again unless I am invited with another party. It's just too loud and crowded for my liking.
Overall experience: We were disappointed. Above par service, though. We never complained about the quality of the food or drink we received since I figured it was their standard. I could see no reason to question someone's standard. I can question why the wait staff slacked off when it was obvious we were not drinking the beverages or eating much of the food. I would think they would insist on how they could improve our experience versus coming back several times asking, "Is everything okay?" when obviously it was not. That is my opinion, though. Our food choices were lacking in flavor. In their defense, many people enjoy Gringos, and according to other reviews, the street tacos get high marks. We started with a small dish of queso with beef - umm, where was the beef? A smidgen only! Additionally, we had the Shrimp and Avocado Salad. Where were the ingredients other than the malnourished, flavorless half-dozen shrimp on top and a smattering of the other ingredients they stated on the menu? Lettuce, lettuce, and more lettuce with a smattering of umm had to dig to find anything else. The second item was the Taco Salad with beef - that item was reasonable only because it was salty, so it had some flavor smack in the middle as a glob of saucy ground beef. Tex-Mex? Nope! Why five flavorless sauces? To add some flavor to a tasteless item? The item should speak for itself in loud vocals, not subdued restraint. The drinks: Two margaritas—a frozen melon (green and not traditional red) and a strawberry. We received these items, and they were on the watery side of slushy, not even close to the icy frozen confection that other Mexican Food restaurants offer. I'm baffled, but not baffled enough to know I will not be going to this chain again. My purpose here is simply to share our experience and to agree with those individuals who gave a 3 star or less versus a higher rating on the food. Individuals like myself and my party have a flavor for spicy, flavorful, authentic, or near authentic Tex=Mex cuisine. We expected Gringos would meet our challenge. It did not. I sincerely hope your experiences meet your expectations.
WARNING***They have a drink limit here. 2 drinks, 2 shot limit. I have NEVER in my life ever been cut off ANYWHERE! My husband had 2 beer and I had 2 drinks and we had a Skittles shot each, which is VERY MILD and when we ordered another shot each of SKITTLES. WE were told then of this limit. NOOO reason at all for it other than THERE LAW OF LIMIT. I CALL BS ON THIS . JUST LETTING EVERYONE KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT AND END UP LIKE US AND HAVING TO GO ELSEWHERE TO ENJOY OUR NIGHT. THIS SHOULD BE ON THERE WEBSITE AND UPFRONT. WE WOULDNT HAVE BOTHERED TO VISIT THIS PLACE HAD WE KNOWN. FYI The margaritas are NOT the good tbh. Go for the twister, its much better.
We stopped at Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen on our way back to Dallas because it looked great from the road and had solid reviews. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to that. We sat at the bar and were not greeted warmly — it honestly felt more like “why are you sitting here?” than “welcome in.” Not a great start. The house margarita was a huge letdown. It tasted like straight sweet-and-sour mix — almost like Kool-Aid made from margarita mix. It had that overly sugary, slightly off taste, like the mix wasn’t fresh. It was flat and one-dimensional. When we said something, the bartender did remake them and they were better, which we appreciated. But he also admitted that the house margarita isn’t their best and gets sent back often. That left us wondering — if it’s known to be bad, why keep serving it? Service overall lacked urgency and hospitality. We were given one napkin between the two of us and had to ask for waters after our drinks were brought out. I asked for salsa with extra cilantro and never received it. We ordered a cup of queso to start and it was completely forgotten — no apology, no acknowledgment. We repeatedly had to flag someone down for basic follow-ups and silverware. I’ve been a server for years and understand being busy. But hospitality means checking back, anticipating needs, and fixing mistakes without guests having to chase you down. That didn’t happen here. The staff felt slow and disengaged, and we consistently felt like an afterthought. As for the food — it was very basic Tex-Mex. I work at a Tex-Mex restaurant in Dallas, so I came in expecting bold, layered flavor. Instead, everything was under-seasoned and lacked depth. Nothing stood out. The restaurant looks nice and has potential, but between the weak house margarita, forgotten items, and inattentive service, it wasn’t worth the stop for us.
