Cafe Calypso Corpus Christi Reviews
The best specialty Coffee shop, with Desserts, Bagels, Scones & Croissants. Very Friendly place. Cash Only.
Friendly local faces, great food and drinks and the best part in today's world. You can actually get fresh, locally made food and beverage (coffee) for around 10 bucks (don't forget to tip your baristas) and leave a review. And never be afraid to join the local talk on the front porch. It's a diverse crowd with compelling conversation.
The iced Cafe Mocha is my ultimate favorite!! The espresso is like no other. Perfectly balanced with the chocolate. I love that it actually tastes like coffee!!! It’s not too sweet like the other mainstream coffee places, where all you taste is sugar!! I would recommend this place to real coffee drinkers. 100/10!
So I decided to pop in and try the Cafe. I didn't realize it was cash only. The atm was giving me a hard time and I told the young lady at the front. She told me is was OK. I truly will return. That was a very kind gesture.
Love this little cafe! It’s a great place to study, the atmosphere is relaxed, quiet and the coffee/goods are delicious. The baristas are all very friendly! Plus they have wifi, and it’s always nice to pop next door and get a book after you finish your coffee:)
Love this little cafe!!! It’s cash only so bring some! Fair prices good food and drink! HOWEVER, they are always out of chai latte tea. If they sell a lot of it, they should order a lot of it.
The cafe and book store are inter connected. We really loved the coffee here. Would surely recommend this place for good coffee and cake. Got a chance to talk to the owner. She was very kind and gave good insights on the places to see in Corpus Christi other than the famous ones. The cafe is running good for so many years with awesome quality of coffee and other things.
Very cute cafe in town - Huge bonus that it’s attached to a book store! I got the Strawberry Hibiscus tea and my friend got a Vanilla Chai Latte. Unfortunately I only got a bite of the Blueberry muffin due to my cinnamon allergy, but my friend enjoyed it. The cafe had that sit around and talk all day vibe which we loved. Even took a stroll through the book store next door.
They have a very nice assortment of coffee beans they roast themselves, why didn't I know that? I picked up a pound of Celebes Collossi, I've enjoyed them before from other roasters and these were no exception. The young lady that waited on me gave me a hot cup of coffee, very nice. Doesn't hurt to be attached to a Half Price Books. We visit this half price whenever we're in Corpus.....and i'll pick up some beans and a coffee drink. Good prices too.
The most hip place in Corpus. Cash only and being attached to Half Priced Books keeps the pretentiousness down. Fresh baked treats and coffee are really good. I recommend the “Blondies”. Probably the best place to sit and enjoy a coffee in Corpus. Reminds me of an international hostel in the 90s lol. 10/10
An awesome place in the South side to study or work. Their WiFi is pretty good. I ordered the avocado toast and it was delicious: plenty of avocado and a good quality slice of bread. Flags of various countries hang unobtrusively from the ceiling which is a nice touch, and this place also connected to a Half Price Books.
I’ve been coming here for years. It’s one of those places that, you must go by when in CC. Local to the core and a favorite by locals as well. The only downside: It’s cash only. There’s an ATM inside though. Plus, the friendliness of the staff, the great service and the homemade pastries, more than make up for it. It’s definitely an authentic coffee shop. They roast coffee as well, so you can buy some for home/office. You could grab a book from next door at Half Price and come on by to Cafe Calypso and enjoy some coffee w/a good read.
Enjoyed a hot gingerbread latte as the flavor of the day. A delicious way to start the morning.
When I came here last year their their drinks and cookies were delicious. This time, their Vietnamese coffee was terrible, the Turkish Delight was ok, the lemon cake was obviously make with Betty Crocker mix and was meh, and the vegetable quiche was disgusting. It was all overpriced for the quality and flavor; would not recommend. It was annoying to have to pay with cash; they have an ATM in back in case you're like me and don't carry cash, but that can't be cheap--at that point why not just sign up with Square? The flags from various countries was a cool touch, and it's nice they have outdoor seating (cause it's dang cold inside).
I love the cafe. The coffee is good and the muffin was delicious. However I was disappointed that they didn’t have outlets for my laptop and were cash only. It made me wish I had gone another block to Starbucks. Unfortunately they didn’t meet my needs so I probably won’t be back. So sad.
The employees were nice. However, as a barista and someone that works in customer service the way the shop was operated was inefficient. They never wrote or typed in our orders on the cup and just made them by ear. I ordered an iced oat latte with coconut syrup, and when I tried my latte there was no coconut. I also ordered a bagel with cream cheese and they gave me just the bagel. The espresso tasted extremely burnt and bitter as well, indicating that it was not quality. While me and my mom were waiting to order the baristas were too busy small talking with a regular and were not quick to greet us or start on other people’s drinks, as other people were waiting behind us also. One of them should have been prepping the drinks and food while one was taking orders. I didn’t end up asking them to remake my drink or put cream cheese on my bagel simply because the order line got longer, I was in a rush, and they were already being extremely slow and we were waiting a long time for them to even take our order even though there was only one person in front of us when we arrived. My mom and I both ended up tossing our drinks as we could not finish them and we have a 4 hour drive home ahead of us.
