J Fargo Cortez Reviews
Fantastic food and service! What a great place to eat. Our server was amazing, and the soup and salad were so good after a long day of driving.
Absolutely delicious Got the steak and it was amazing best steak I've had in a while and our server was super patient
Our first time here and we loved it! We always struggle to find good food in Cortez and very much enjoyed our lunch. We got the fried pickles, burger with green chiles, sweet potato fries, and the red ale. Kyle was our server and was fantastic! Attentive, kind, and professional. We will definitely go back.
My husband and I visited this restaurant twice. The food was so good, happy hour craft beers were superb, and both our servers, Kyle and Shiloh were fabulous!! Definitely go if you're in town and you won't regret it!!
Delicious little hole in the wall off Main St. Not cheap, not expensive, and very well made food. Their beer prices are fair, domestic pitchers start at 12.50 (including twisted tea!) and their homeade beers aren't bad either. The service was good and the atmosphere is cozy. The booths are comfy and there's parking in the rear 😉
This is an excellent place to eat. I had the double meat burger. It was cooked too perfection, the flavor was awesome, and the meat was juicy. Their steak fries were crispy and well seasoned. The service was good and the atmosphere is great. I will definitely eat here again next time I'm in Cortez Colorado.
We almost had the whole place to ourselves on a snowy/rainy Saturday at 2 pm. The waitress let us know about the impressive display of family photos all over the walls. My Malibo Figi bucket drink was refreshing but not strong. My bacon cheese burger was really flavorful, and the unlimited homemade chips were really, really good. I took the flourless chocolate cake home, which was excellent. Each bite is like a dark chocolate truffle! The hubby had the Navajo Taco with "Christmas " (red and green 🌶) on top. He actually ate the whole thing! The whole meal was $50 and so worth every penny! Really, they could easily charge more and it would still be worth it.
Great food and ice cold beer! Stopped by for a brisket sandwich-so good and a high class burger (subbed chicken). The aioli was the best part! Staff was so friendly! Beer flight was a little warm, but still good, however other national brand drafts were ice cold. Definitely recommend trying this place!
They are understaffed right now and therefore slow in seating you, but not in servicing. The wait is well worth it. Their servers are friendly. We enjoyed the well-prepared food, and I enjoyed the micro-brewery draft beers.
J. Fargo’s Family Dining & Microbrewery is worth a regional stop and earns a solid 4-star rating as a reliable, satisfying place to eat in Cortez. The strength here is consistency and breadth. The menu is large and approachable, covering burgers, steaks, sandwiches, comfort food classics, and house-brewed beer. Execution is dependable across the board. Dishes arrive hot, portions are generous, and flavors are well balanced without trying to be overly clever. This is food designed to please a wide range of diners, and it succeeds at that goal. The microbrewery component adds real value. The beers are competently brewed, clean, and enjoyable, making this a good stop if you want both food and a drink without hopping locations. Nothing felt experimental or cutting-edge, but the quality is there, and it pairs well with the menu. Service was friendly and efficient. Staff handled the space well, orders were accurate, and pacing was appropriate even when the restaurant was busy. The experience felt professional and welcoming, which matters in a town that sees a steady flow of travelers. The atmosphere leans casual and family-friendly. It is comfortable rather than stylish, and it works well for groups, road trippers, and anyone looking for a relaxed meal after a long day exploring the area. What keeps this from a higher tier is distinction. While everything is done well, nothing quite crosses into memorable or destination-level dining. This is a place you are glad exists and happy to return to when nearby, rather than one you plan an entire trip around. Overall, J. Fargo’s is a strong regional option. Dependable food, good beer, fair value, and solid service make it an easy recommendation if you are in Cortez and want a meal that delivers without disappointment. Worth the miles.
This is a local hangout from what I've been told. It's got some outdoor seating off the bar which is nice. The bar area is proportionate to the restaurant. Local beers on tap seem to be the draw. The menu has a variety of items for everyone. The staff were welcoming and friendly from entry to exit. I ordered a half order of nachos and the brisket salmon with mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. The food was good.. Unfortunatley the only downside was the fact that the beans cheese, green onion was warm at best. Overall, it was a good meal after being on the road all day. Definitely worth stopping back again when I'm in the area.
I would prefer a 3.5 star rating but I'll be generous with the 4 star. They had a prime rib special that sounded good. I didn't love it. Not much flavor and very tough meat to chew. I had brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes with it. The potatoes were good. The brussel sprouts were very dry and seemed burned. There was a guy sitting across from me who shared similar sentiments about a different steak cut that he had. I'm left disappointed because the reviews made this place sound good. Perhaps it was just an off night. With such a versatile menu I would hope not every dish is like this. The staff was very friendly and the environment was nice. The place seemed clean and well maintained.
Stopped here after a long day of driving. Waited a few minutes before being seated. Menu was simple and had a variety of items. I had the bbq beef brisket, Carolina style (spicy bbq sauce) with steak fries. The brisket was tender and moist worth ordering. My daughter ordered the avocado salad with blood orange citrus dressing. The salad was well blended, with fresh avocado and the dressing was the perfect amount and served on the side. Both entrees were delicious. Decent servings and filling. I ordered a side of bread and it was actually a small loaf and perfect for sharing. Service was good, our waitress, April was excellent. She kept us updated on our order, checked on us after food came out, and delivered the check right away. I would of loved to have tried a beer sampler but they were out of 2 of the 4 brews. I would recommend this place, good food and great service.
Very slight crowd for 12:40pm on a Monday. I went here to sample the home brews. 2 of the four were out. The other two were barely cool and not very flavorful. Had a Blue Moon instead. Wanted something besides a burger & fries. Had chicken quesadilla. Included green chilis weren't very flavorful. Disappointed. Service was fine. Won't be back.
I ordered the brosted 4 piece chicken meal with a side of broccoli and sweet potato fries. When it came out I was excited, it looked good, but one bite would prove otherwise. I'll put it this way if KFC has 11 herbs and spices on their chicken, J Fargo only had one, and it was the pepper I put on it from the table. There was absolutely no flavor. This was the recommended dish from my server, since I had never been there, and after this I'm never going back. Sweet potato fries were good though.
I took my family to this restaurant yesterday and I will have to say I can now see why no one recommend this place. It took over an hour to get our food and then when it did finally come it looked like they cooked it for the last hour. No one came and apologized for it taking so long or offered something simple like chips to eat while we waited. The burger had only one taste and that was burnt and the fries had grease dripping out of them. The lettuce had dark spots on it and my bun had what looked like a bite mark on it. The chicken was so over cooked that we couldn't even eat it. The corn and mashed potatoes was okay to eat but we ended up leaving almost all the food as we couldn't eat it.
