Zia's Delicatessen Davis Reviews
Delicious! Always a good sandwich here. The seasonal special pumpkin bars are my absolute favorite. They even have dolma / stuffed grape leaves. No indoor seating, however plenty of outdoor seating. Inside is a deli counter and lots of Italian snacks & goods. Staff are wonderful and friendly but the line is quite slow sometimes.
Best sandwich place in Davis (sorry panera!) But Zia has been around since 1995, that's 30 years! My go-to is always the Lucca (turkey) on sourdough roll. I ask for without oil and vinegar to keep things dry. When I ordered this recently, at least 4 others in line got the Lucca. The sandwich quality is as I remembered it as a college student in Davis. There is so much to see in the store, and so many non-typical treats to try and buy. It's like walking into a little Italy, and I just love the decor and atmosphere. They also have a bunch of neat drinks and gelato ice cream in their fridges. Just know those lunch rushes can be a pain, and it does take time for people to make it. It takes about 5 minutes, sometimes longer if they have many orders. Seating-wise there are none inside. You have to sit outside, but it's usually not too packed. Parking-wise, it's free 2-hr street parking Mon-Sat. Not sure why, but recently parking in downtown Davis has gotten busy around noon. Regardless, this is a must-try sandwich spot in Davis. Pro-tip: san-pelligrino's taste so good with their sandwiches!
Welcoming environment, super pleasant and accommodating employees, FANTASTIC sandwiches. I went in just to check out the hype and felt like I had walked into a little shop in Italy. Lots of unique specialty Italian food all over the deli walls, like pasta, sauces and imported candy. The young woman who took my order was sweet and very patient with all of my questions, and me taking forever to order. I got the Lucca and copied another reviewers idea of adding the spicy roasted red pepper sauce and brown mustard. Also added Brie cheese. So delicious! Then I went and ordered another one because everything sounded so good. Got the Siena- as is. Maybe even better than the first sandwich but it’s close to a tie. Had some spumoni gelato while I waited, also really good. I was recommended this place by my Italian family in the area and from my experience, it lives up to all of the hype and awards. I would not leave Davis without stopping in at least once!
This place is a hidden gem. The food is very delicious. I got the toscana, with added lettuce and tomato. It was soooo good! The staff was very friendly and attentive. An added plus is that they have imported italian goods, which is very cool/interesting. I will be back soon :)
Lucca with spicy sun dried tomato sauce and brown mustard… incredible. Flavors melting in my mouth. Taken to flavor station. Incredible ambiance and thank you to the kind workers for the recommendations. Great quick service and really fun to check out their imported Italian goods. Can’t wait to come back!!
Absolutely stellar place to get a sandwich. You will taste the difference between Zia's and all the others.
Been ordering their sandwiches for a while and they hit the spot like no other. Portions are just right and always fresh; bread is chewy yet soft. Highly recommend the Viareggio for a classic and the Lucca for some zing.
I ordered one of their grilled paninis (the Siena) and I now see why this place is a local favorite. Fresh mozzarella, grilled to a crisp, with meat specially cut for each sandwich. A great panini for a reasonable price (under $10). Expect there to be a crowd around lunchtime but the wait isn't too long. There's plenty of outdoor seating and staff wear masks. A lovely spot for a meal and to grab some Italian desserts too!
Best sandwich place in Davis. If you're looking for a deli that cuts your meat for your sandwich when you order it look no further. They have an amazing set menu but also if you want to build your own sandwich you can do that too. Pictured here is a roast beef with preccuitto on a soft roll with smoked mozzarella. There's a reason this place keeps winning best sandwich in Yolo County every year.
Absolutely love this place! A must try for the Davis area. Italian foods and imports, excellent deli sandwiches, and a friendly staff, what's not to love. Give Zia's a try, you will not be disappointed

I usually don’t leave reviews but this was the best sandwich I’ve had in Davis ! Places can be a hit or miss out here and this really hit! I got a turkey sandwich on sourdough and it was so good . I ordered two bags of chips and only received one , but besides that no complaints! I’ll definitely be ordering frequently, I’m glad I found this gem 💎
The food was delicious. The wait was a little long, but it's because the place was packed - and I can see why! Sandwiches, multiple types of European salads, little desserts. Definitely recommend.
Best pastrami sandwich I have consumed in a long time! Everyone in our group enjoyed their sandwiches. They have an excellent selection of gourmet pasta, sauces, and ingredients if you love to cook. We didn't sample but the desserts looked awesome. We will be back soon!
This local european Deli was super good. Everything tasted fresh.

Kinda cramped sandwich shop. Veggie panini tasted like they hadn’t washed the produce. Staff was friendly, but overwhelmed, forgetting a side, asking people if they’d paid, and ignoring me standing at the register, needing aforementioned side. Lots of grocery goodies for sale like unique pastas and cookies, as well. Very reasonable prices.

Sandwiches are ALWAYS great. Variety of breads, desserts, drinks plus Italian market food. Service’s is just about 100% but a tiny bit off, which is probably understandable when the line backs up. All in all I can honestly say my family really misses the other location that was on O & 14th in downtown Sacramento.

Sandwiches are good if you like good quality meat. I’d suggest adding additional items to your sandwich to tailor it to your preference. But what I really came to say is that the service here was terrible. The lady taking our order was almost upset we showed up to order 20 mins before close. At first, I wanted a panini and she warned me it would take 7-10 mins with a death stare. So I switched my sandwich to a different one and then asked if the wait is the same in which she responded “I mean it’s still a sandwhich it just doesn’t go in the oven.” Within 5 mins our order was ready, again to be greeted with the same death stare. All for 5 mins worth of work to make it.

I bought the Viareggio (turkey pesto mayo) and some desserts for a picnic at the park nearby. The sandwich was just okay. Decent price. The bread was a little stale at the butt end piece, which was surprising since the long line is evidence of high turnover. The pesto mayo had barely any pesto or green flecks at all. I barely tasted pesto. The desserts came in these cute little glasses. The lemon was nice and light. The espresso creme brulee flavor was terrible. It had a huge layer of about 1-2 Tbsp brown sugar on top that was not bruleed so it was overly sweet. Dumped it all off. Then, the part beneath I thought was frozen because it was so hard. I tried it and it was kind of filmy on my tongue. Didn't like the flavor so I scooped it out to keep the glass. Oddly, 30 mins later it still hadnt melted. I have no idea what that dessert is made with. Butter? Finally, the staff are extremely nice but they are not fast and the payment line is disorganized. Be prepared to wait.

This looks nice at first glance. They really nail the ambiance of a deli you'd pop into in a small town during a long trip. Unfortunately, that's where the charm ends. Everyone looks miserable (to be fair I would also be miserable if I had to serve the world's most disappointing sandwiches). I've gotten mild food poisoning each time I've eaten here and I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The people making sandwiches are constantly touching their faces and don't wash their hands. Almost like they think their boogers are supposed to be some added seasoning. The sandwiches don't taste that great to begin with. Nothing is homemade; you can see exactly where they purchase their ingredients from since everything is out of a bottle or package. Just the type of bland sandwich you'd expect from the campus cafeteria but at twice the price. I'd rather just go to mendocino farms and get a nice wilted lettuce salad.

Boring sandwich. Bad prices. Go to Corti Bro's in Sacramento instead. Literally worth the drive.
The good was alright. Got a Firenze. It is pre made so they cannot change anything on it. Food is alright but The service is definitely not the best. I had to wait for 12 minutes and saw everyone ordering after me, getting their order. The waitress at the counter was packing food with bare hands and then touching her nose and the register and packing grapes leaves again etc. They do have a variety of things from Italy, a few good items from Portland as well.
I stopped by for the first time and it was 9:55 Am, the door was open “for service.” When I walked in, I asked if they made breakfast sandwiches and the girl at the front said, no and we don’t open until about 5 more minutes anyway. 🙄 Attitude was not necessary and neither was the fact that they were open. Train people to have better customer service. I crossed the street and took my money to Panera. Enjoyed their breakfast options. I also noticed this place doesn’t have gluten free options either. Anyway, won’t ever return to this place. Thanks!
