Shogun Sushi Sake Bar Delmar Reviews
Shogun is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The quality of the food they make at the grill far surpasses any of their shortcomings. I'm not a fan of loud parties and this place always has them, but I can put that aside when eating my triple helping of fried rice. Always get reservations otherwise the wait could be significant.
Fun atmosphere dinner and a show. My friends mentioned better than Benihana, food wise. I got the rib eye steak with scallops combo. I think it was a good price for amount of food you get. The sushi here too is really good. We've done omakase here. A must is reservation for either dining experience. The only bad thing is parking, but that is also everywhere around Kearney Mesa that has good food.
Expensive but well worth it! Make reservations as they fill a table (8) before begining...be open to meeting and eating with strangers. Not great for introverts.
We had a great time. we went on a whim mid week at dinner time. I've never been to Shogun before. The food was delicious our hibachi chef was spectacular he gave a great show went along with our last min adjustments and took care for my food allergies. planning our next trip with our son.
Bert Perez did an amazing job as our cook. The food was amazing and so was his service and jokes!
I don’t know why anyone goes anywhere else. This place is the epitome of the hibachi I grew up with. Great portions, great food, amazing entertainment
It was delicious and super fun but Samantha your front desk lady with the green hair money piece needs to be fired immediately. She had a bad attitude from the moment we walked in to the moment we sat down. Everyone else was amazing. I wrote the review to help the other people that are not SAMANTHA with the green hair money piece.
**A Delightful Dining Experience!** I recently dined at shogun, and I must say, it was a wonderful experience overall. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel right at home. The ambiance was inviting, with soft lighting and tasteful decor that set the perfect mood for our meal. The service was exceptional. Our waiter Preston was attentive without being intrusive, checking in on us just the right amount. He was knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. I appreciated how he took the time to explain the specials, which made our choices even more exciting. Now, let’s talk about the food—absolutely delicious! We started with 5 appetizers all bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. For the main course, I had the steak, shrimp and lobster it was cooked to perfection. Each bite was a delightful explosion of taste that left me wanting more. We also indulged in dessert, and the desert was the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Overall, I highly recommend Justin at the bar for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. The combination of impeccable service and mouthwatering food made for a memorable evening. I can’t wait to return and try more dishes!
My wife and I relocated to San Diego from Nashville TN and i must say the East coast does food right! More options, more flavor! We've been to tons of Japanese steakhouse restaurants and they've ALL SUCKED except 1...... This restaurant was great!! Food was terrific and service of course was fun and wacky, but for me... the flavors came together perfectly 👌🏿 and not to mention this place is HUGE! 10/10 from me... and I'm a big boi.. I loves to eat! This will be the only Japanese steakhouse we go to! But don't listen me.... just come try it for yourself
we tried to get into benihana and they sat us in a room that was freezing , our drinks took forever and no one seemed to really care if we were there or not ! This was for our anniversary so we decided to walk out and find somewhere else. Shogun came up and we decided to give it a try, talk about night and day difference ! The staff was wonderful everything was beyond expectation and we were treated how customers should be treated ! Try it if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed!
This place is always amazing, we try to go a few times a year. We were there for our anniversary last week and had a blast. The atmosphere is top notch, the food is always the best and cooked right in front of you so it is fresh and hot. I'm allergic to onions so they prepared our food first then added in the onions. 10/10
I’ve come here on several occasions and every time they never fail to impress! Their New York steak is amazing and I love the shrimp with it. Their noodles are also amazing and the soup is awesome! I came here for my sisters birthday and for my graduation and I loved it both times. Overall, this place is absolutely amazing and I love it!
Hibachi places are all similar in a way, so you can expect the same volcano tricks and train jokes from the chef. The food was very good—similar to what you might get at Benihana. I had the scallops and steak, ribeye I think, and recommend both. We also ordered sushi as an appetizer, and it was delicious, but honestly an appetizer is too much food here. One outstanding aspect about this place was the level of service. The waiters were extremely attentive. I was particularly impressed that my friend ordered steamed rice (instead of fried), and they brought out his rice at the exact time the chef was serving everyone else their fried rice. In general, I prefer the variety of food available at a Korean barbecue buffet, but I will definitely be back at Shogun when I am craving for hibachi specifically.
Amazing sushi here! I made a reservation for the sushi bar and Abraham delivered some of the best sushi rolls and appetizers I have ever had. He added a few twist to some of the classics on the menu and the latest roll on the menu is fantastic. This place really knows how to make sushi and give a great experience. I’ve only made reservations here because it does get very busy on the weekends. They have done some remodeling over the last 8 years that I have been going and the Sushi Bar is now back to its original spot, to the right of the entrance. I stopped using the menu years ago so I just have Abraham take the wheel and he remembers what I enjoy. Hats off to him. The sushi bar is a great spot for a date btw! Go check out Abraham at Shogun if you want delicious sushi. Parking is pretty tough so I have been taking an Uber to ensure I made my reservation and to enjoy some Saki!
I had relatives visiting San Diego and took them out for lunch. This is the first time that I have been back since the pandemic; however, I have been here several times over the years. They still have the lunch specials which was great since this restaurant is expensive. We enjoyed the food, the cooking show, and the customer service at the Teppanyaki table.
Bert Perez was the most social and amazing chef he cooked our food incredibly perfect and left everyone full with smiles on their faces. Our family picks this location extremely often and loves the experience every time. We will be requesting Bert Perez again because of his kindness to answer all questions and his hilarious jokes overall nicest chef ever!
Had a great time here for my sons bday! The chef put on a great show and was a super cool dude. He had the whole table talking and feeling like we all knew one another! The food was great we got the Pot stickers for the appetizer. The sesame chicken dinner and the Shogun Special for dinner.. The Shogun special was great filet mignon, lobster tail and shrimp for $40.99 it was really really good! We also love the fried rice!! Overall great time with good service on a busy Saturday night!
I had dinner at Shogun tonight… service was great… food spectacular… the manager, Darrell stopped by the table… was very attentive and made sure our dining experience was great! We will be back for sure! 👍
Food was amazing. Izzy was great! He kept it entertaining and had great vibes. Truly a 5 star experience. THANK YOU IZZY AND TONY !!!
My friends and I had the best time. The food was delicious and garlicy, our chef did his best to communicate and keep us entertained considering it was extremely noisy and hard to hear one another around the table. Our server was on point and came by several times to see how we were doing. Our drinks never emptied before we were asked if we needed anything else. I had only one complaint which can not be corrected, it was extremely hot inside, so when going be prepared because the grills are I think 500 degrees F and even with the exhaust going it was still hot. Otherwise when going, I suggest making a reservation for a large party of 5 or more, or be prepared to wait a bit. Shogun is our go to for teppanyaki.
Good food! Great happy hour! Service was a little lacking....new staff. I had to ask for utensils and then a plate. But other than that it was a nice place to have a nice dinner..... Second review, second visit.....service was excellent and the bartender, Austin, was awesome! Food was great! Changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars.
Shogun's is, at the end of the day, an American style Hibachi grill. It has traditional Japanese Teppanyaki dishes, assorted sushi all well done and delicious. Even Japanese sake, whiskey, and wine to back it all up. But what you go to Shogun's for is the show, and the show is distinctly American. Teppanyaki is a style of cooking, and generally not a showy one. Yet hibachi grills within the US are identical but with added flare. And that's what Shogun's is. And there's no shame in that, it's fun. With that out of the way, Shogun's is a great place to take friends and family. The chefs are always trying to get everyone to smile and laugh, cook the food wonderfully, and are quite dedicated to making everyone leave happy. The staff are amazingly skilled and able to easily handle any sized party, and will also go out of their way to make sure you leave happy. But most importantly the food and drink is very good. All of the meat and seafood is very high quality and delicious once served. The drinks are all amazingly well done and delicious, with actual imported sake, wine, and whiskey. And most of all the prices are rather reasonable giving this high end of an establishment.
I've been a regular at Shogun, and they never disappoint. What I love most is their commitment to offering generous portion sizes, even as other restaurants hike prices and shrink servings. My go-to order is the Caliente roll, filet mignon with chicken, and chicken fried rice, and it's always spot on. The flavors are fantastic, and you really get what you pay for here. It's refreshing to dine at a place that doesn’t compromise quality or quantity. Highly recommend if you're looking for a satisfying meal that’s worth every penny!
Had an excellent sushi lunch at Shogun! We opted to not sit at a teppanyaki table and sat at a regular table. We ordered the salmon carpaccio, BSC scallop roll, crunchy dragon shrimp roll, spicy lobster roll, rainbow roll (tuna, albacore, salmon, yellowtail), and the volcano roll. All the sushi tasted great, the seafood very fresh. Love the design and ambiance of the restaurant, the separate sections for teppanyaki, omakase, and bar. Very friendly and quick service. Recommend, looks like a fun place to a teppanyaki party.
Went in on Valentine’s Day. Originally our reservation was for 2 but sitter flaked so we ended up being 4. The manager (amazing man) said he would try to make it work but that our reservation for 430 would be closer to 530 which was fine for us. We sat at the bar and at 415 (we arrived at 4) we were called back. They were short chefs and understandably running behind. Once we did get our chef to come out, he was great, apologetic & still entertaining even if he was running on fumes. Izzy was his name. We live 10-15 min away from the San Marcos location and decided to switch up the scenery and we are so glad we did. Thanks again to the manager and Izzy. You guys rocked it on Valentine’s Day.
We had a reservation for 7:00 with 7 people. Parking was horrible. Unfortunately their parking lot is surprisingly small in comparison to the large parties they allow. there was street parking but it was all taken. We parked in the denys parking lot where we paid ACE for it. We got in at 7:13 and they seated us about 2 minutes later. Our chef was amazing! We had so much fun with Bert Perez he was funny, kind, talkative. He made everything to perfection. I got a Filet mignon, and it was so tasty 😋. It was loud but we were able to still talk to one another. We connected with Bert easily and he was very open with us! Thank you Bert!
We were in the mood for tepanyaki and found Shogun through a search online. The Restaurant is quite large, but very busy. I'd recommend a reservation, especially on weekends. Our chef was very entertaining and the food was delicious. I got the New York Steak and scallops combo, with shrimp fried rice. Everything was delicious and I even took home leftovers.
What a fun friends and family gathering place. It’s definitely a good place for birthdays. We met 5 table’s birthday at a Sunday night. The presentation of the chef is so cool, it’s a place for food, as well as for a fun experience. The foods are pretty delicious, I love the lobster tail & scallops the most, the fillet mignon is good too. Fried rice is well cooked. I don’t really like their appetizers, especially shishito peppers, too saucy foe me. Otherwise, it’s a cool place!
so we had reservations at 8pm. we did not get seated yo close to 9. i dont know what happened but they mixed us up with another table and we got bumped. after that i feel like all the service was slow. besides that all the food was great the rice they made there was amazing. i ordered the filet and it was expertly done. even the sushi roll was really good. everyone at the table was extremely entertained. the chef was pretty funny. besides the waiting this was a great place. if im around there again i want to try it once more.
My husband and I celebrated here after our civil wedding ceremony, and it was the perfect choice. Our chef (I wish I could remember his name!) was incredible — the food was delicious, and he put on a great show while cooking. His talent and energy made our special day even more memorable. We had an amazing time! Highly recommend.
Went here for birthday dinner and had an absolute great time! They seated us quickly and in great spot. We had a wonderful chef and the service was great. They have recently added noodles to the dinner so I thought the amount of food and quality of food was amazing I was so full and had an entire container to take home after. I got the filet mignon large size and shrimp and scallops, everything was cooked perfectly and again the service was amazing!
Highly recommend, great Teppanyaki! I always get the same thing, Filet Mignon with fried rice and side of California rolls, best price and taste in town for me so far! (Highly recommend coming between 11:30am-3pm, lunch special prices, and I honestly don’t think you get any less food)
Everyone was nice. Food was good. Drinks were good. Since it was Sunday night It was very very busy… we had to wait to get sat even though we had made reservations for our party of 3. But only 20 minutes more. The staff were all very friendly and it was a pleasant experience for my 2 year old so we will return on a week night. The purple skittle drink is good if you like grape.
I think it's well fairly known that "Teppanyaki" is a French word that means "someone you love asked to go there for dinner because it's their birthday and you have to pick between Shogun and Benihana because you live in San Diego." Shōgun it is, friends. I appreciate that when I arrive at Shōgun, I'm not treated like I have personally offended the host just by existing (a staple of the Benihana experience). Quite the opposite. Great experience and prompt seating. As for the dining experience. Look, we all know you're here for the show (or because someone you love just got older by a year). The show is good. The chef is funny. The food is good. The server is attentive. Attentive ... this brings me to my point. In our case, mom wanted a jar of the salad dressing. Our server made that happen. Sure, it was for a reasonable charge. But I loved how it was prepared and presented like contraband. Just a random jar of dressing, moonshine style. No label. I'm not kidding by the way. I'm here for it. When mom makes a random request like that on her birthday and they deliver? Sign me up. They even gave her a paper hat. This is all to say this style of dining is about more than food. It's about making people feel special. This is the second time I've brought my mom here for that purpose and they have succeeded twice. Shōgun every time!
We had such a great time! The staff was super friendly, and we really appreciated the warm hospitality and delicious food. Darrelle was absolutely fantastic, he definitely deserves a raise! A big thank you to Shogun for making our experience so memorable. Can’t wait to come back!tely deserves a raise! A big thank you to Shogun for making our experience so memorable. Can’t wait to come back!
We LOVE Shogun! Great food, awesome atmosphere, and friendly staff. Our kids pick this location for their birthdays every year. The menu offers a variety of steak, shrimp, chicken, and seafood. They also have sushi rolls!!!! The serving portions are big and we usually leave with leftovers. My oooooonly complaint is the difficulty in parking. If you drive a large truck it can be very difficult parking in the lot. It can be best to park on the street and walk if the lot is full. But trust me, it’s worth it!!!!
Went to Shogun to celebrate my friend’s birthday and we had such a great experience! From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hibachi chef was super entertaining and made the whole dinner extra fun with his skills and humor. The ambiance was perfect for a celebration, and they even sang and brought a sliced cake roll for my friend’s birthday, which made the night feel extra special. The only downside is the parking—it’s very limited, so I’d recommend arriving early or carpooling if you can. Also, we made reservations at 7pm but had to wait 20 minutes for them to turnover the table. We did Teppanyaki and it was $70 a person since we didn’t drink, it would’ve been more if we did. Was well worth the experience. Other than that, everything was top notch. Would definitely come back again for date night or another special occasion!
We love to go here for Teppanyaki. It's not as crowded as Benihanas and I think the food is better. There is always a lot of food and most of the time I'll have leftovers for lunch the next day. It's always a fun dinner. Reservations highly recommended. I love their ribeye and colossal shrimp combo. And you must do the chicken fried rice instead of plain white rice. It's delicious. Everyone gets mixed vegetables and 2-3 shrimps with their orders too. A miso soup and side salad is served before the chef comes out.
What a great place for dinner with a show. This was my first visit here and totally enjoyed it. The shots and the food! I had Shrimp, lobster, scallops and fish. It was supposed to be Calamari, but I'm glad I got fish instead. So good. The scallops practically melt in your mouth. The lobster and shrimp both cooked just right as well. No toughness on any of the food. The fried rice was delicious as well. Our cook was Jose, so thank you House for a wonderful time and good food. Can't wait to come back to have sushi!
Fun night out at Shogun! Shogun offered a lively atmosphere that was perfect for our group outing. The food was good, with generous portions, and everyone enjoyed their meals. Finding parking was a bit challenging, but overall, we had a great time. I thought the quality of food was a little better than Benihana, and the chef preparing our meal did a fine job with his cooking a humor.

The best experience in quality seafood dining... delicious seafood done perfectly. Wonderful service and perfect background music
Food is cooked in front of us . It is so good. I got filet steak and chicken. Service was excellent and fast . It's also a good price. Ambience is cool and festive.

Really enjoyed our first time to Shogun. The food was excellent, and the chef had my 2 year old entertained the whole time he cooked. My wife got the hibachi filet mignon and said it was perfectly cooked at medium. I had the shrimp yakisoba and it was delightful. My dad had the New York strip steak, and it was so good he didn't talk to us during the meal because he was just enjoying his meal. Would definitely recommend.
I went here to celebrate a family member's birthday, and THIS PLACE IS SOOOO GOOD! I love the dinner show performed in front of you, and the food tastes just as good as it looks! The tricks and decorations were great, and they have a really cool birthday song! The one downside is that it's pretty expensive with many people. But I will come here every so often for the food!
Went to Shogun the other day and I’d say it was a bit pricey but the Food was obviously delicious- if it wasn’t so expensive I’d probably want to go more often- originally planned on going to Benihana in Mission Valley but it was booked - if you get a talkative and entertaining Chef you’re in luck - not all the chefs are the same - this was what I had and loved it ! I wouldn’t bother ordering a smoothie - totally not worth it - good luck
Food was delicious; however, the server wasn't very enthused about serving us. Thankfully, Chung, our cook, had an upbeat personality and a few jokes as well. Ended up giving the tip directly to him instead of having it shared with the waitstaff. The Filet Mignon was the best part of my meal.
Dined at the bar and enjoyed the food, cocktails, and service. The onion soup is the best! The spicy margarita was great and the meal was delicious. I think the Kearny Mesa location could use a remodeling. The inside is outdated, and the lighting is off. It seemed a bit dark for lunchtime.
We came to Shogun to celebrate my birthday with my husband and kids, and overall it was a really great experience — especially if you have little ones. The hibachi setup makes it super entertaining, and the kids were completely engaged the whole time. It made the dinner feel like more than just a meal, which is exactly what I was hoping for on my birthday. The food was seasoned incredibly well. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they don’t hold back on seasoning, which I really appreciated. Our chef was phenomenal — not only talented, but fun and engaging. He really made the experience memorable and helped make the night feel special. The only downside was when we brought out my birthday cake. Our waiter told us they don’t light candles, which was confusing and honestly a little disappointing because I saw candles being lit for other tables celebrating birthdays. It made the moment feel a bit brushed off, which was unfortunate on a special occasion. Aside from that, we had a really nice time. Between the entertaining atmosphere, well-seasoned food, and amazing chef, it’s definitely a great spot for families and celebrations. I’d still come back again.
Shogun is always such a fun experience! The gyoza appetizer was so good. They added noodles, potatoes and broccoli, and shrimp to what they give everyone, which I loved! The potatoes and broccoli were incredible. The chicken and steak were really good but lacked a little flavor in my opinion. They give you so much food! But overall such a fun experience and you can never go wrong going here!
We took up an entire hibachi table with our group of 13 and they were very flexible with us as our reservation changed in numbers over the course of the day. The food was very solid and the drinks were delicious, and a fair price. Overall this is a great option if you’re looking for hibachi in the San Diego area.
Hadn't been to a teppanyaki place for years. This has quite small griddles but still works perfectly well for a party of eight. The food was fine, the shrimp and scallops stood out for me. We had lunch combos and there was way too much to eat, so that took care of dinner too. It's quite a slow pace to the meal which is fine if you're not on your work lunch break or you'll be taking a long one. Tricks for the show were minimal but entertaining. Would recommend for a party.
TLDR: Food = Good, Drinks = Bad Delicious food with a great presentation. The ambiance is nice and not too loud or crouched. We were only offered drinks at the beginning and then nobody ever came again. You want another drink? Get up yourself and go to the bar cause they don’t care. I did see one lady giving water to some people but she skipped our table.

Very disappointing expensive experience. We went for a friend's Birthday, with a party of 5. I had the Steak and Chicken combo wife had Steak and Shrimp. The server that sat us was friendly and pleasant. The Chef was much less so. The Miso Soup was delivered luke warm. The Steamed rice was barely warm at all and too dry. Since the fist server forgot to give us chopsticks I asked the Chef for some. Getting them for me was obviously below him and my wife commented on that too. The Steak and Chicken were cut into very dissimilar sized pieces and as a result were not cooked correctly. My Steak, ordered Medium rare was served Medium to medium well. Some of the chicken was over cooked as well. The demeanor of the Chef throughout the meal was as if he was bored with his chosen career... and just going through the motions. For the 2 of us (I did have one $6 Coors light) was $108.00 plus tip. If the experience had been as light and fun as it should have, and the food preparation correctly done that would be a fair price. For our experience... it was a rip. Won't be back.
This was my first time visiting this restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I also brought my son for his first experience, as he enjoys watching hibachi-style cooking videos. Unfortunately, the chef was very rushed and had minimal interaction with us. He prepared the food quickly and left without much engagement. Additionally, the chicken was undercooked. The chef hardly performed any tricks, and they were so quick that you could easily miss them in the blink of an eye. My son was very disappointed, especially since the chefs at the other tables were entertaining their guests. I wish we had a different chef. Overall, it was a total disaster and left us feeling disappointed.
First time here, although had tepannyaki many times. Liked the social feel where were sat at same big round table as another family. Chefs cook food at your table. Seafood ingredients were fine but maybe did not taste quite as fresh to me as some other places I have tried. Chicken yakitori tasted nothing like any yakitori I have ever tried. Tasted just like a plain grilled chicken kebab, which is fine, but it’s not yakitori, is it? Also, is quite pricey for combination meal based on what you get, although appetizers seemed reasonably priced. Server seemed new: did not explain what was included in combination dishes as well as meats/seafood or ask if it was our first time. Also, if you say it is your birthday you get complimentary desert. We had a different very special event (and genuinely so, I rang ahead about it), which we told the server about as well. Yet we received nothing complimentary, until we explained at the front desk, which they rectified, to their credit. Having said that, front of house (overall) did not come across very welcoming (either on the phone when making reservation or in person): don’t underestimate the skill, it’s an important one and some places really try to perfect that experience, too. Chef at our table seemed not to be very engaged. It did not help the chef at the next table was a born entertainer, amazing to watch actually!
Doordash had bogo crunch rolls. It was fine. Nothing crazy. Cool exterior to the restaurant tho haha
This review is from our visit on 2/15. Bottom line: It's just not as good as it used to be and with the increased prices it's just not worth it. Food: 4/5. We ordered Steak medium-rare and it was served very rare. They are now adding noodles as a side dish. Not sure why, maybe to make you think you are getting more for your $$$. The noodles add nothing. The rest of the meal was okay. I mean its stir-fried meat/seafood, rice and vegetables with a dipping sauce. Service: 3/5. Our initial drink orders were taken promptly and the drinks showed up before the meal. But no one ever came by to fill up the water glasses at the table. We were out of water by the time we finished the meal. 10 min after the last of the food was put on the plate they came by to hand out containers for you to put your food in. They were definitely interested in trying to get you out of there. Entertainment: 3/5. Over the years the quality of the chefs has gone down. They don't seem to be as invested in the entertainment aspect of the job. Value: 3/5. Dinner for 3 with no appetizers and one glass of wine was $155. We live in the area and have been coming here for a long time. I doubt we'll be back. At this price point there are a lot of other local restaurants we'd rather eat at.

Way too expensive for mediocre food. To charge each in our party $4.50 for ground chicken fried rice with no flavor is bad business. I also hit my target sodium intake for all of 2026 with the meal…

Came here to celebrate a birthday, the food is delicious! But the service is bad. They were understaffed and multiple people were waiting to be seated for a while with plenty tables open. They close at 9:30pm and by 7:30 pm they are already putting up chairs in the dining area where people are still eating. That’s rude, poor service. They brought the check almost immediately after we got our hibachi plates. The food is delicious and the hibachi chefs so fun but disappointing service and atmosphere if you’re looking for somewhere welcoming. Wont return
I had put in the registration that I would like a corner seat at the hibachi table so that our guest could face each other a little and talk, when we got there they sat us side by side I told the host I requested a corner, he said it was not guaranteed..... When I made the reservation no where did it say it was not guaranteed. I didn't want to make a issue of it. It felt fake when he said, my guest and I had to scream across each other. Our cook did not give my husband enough shrimp either.
Veggies were so burnt I couldn't eat them. Generally over priced. Bar area is scrappy and parking lot smells disgusting
While the waitress was kind and kept checking on us, our reservation was for 1pm, and was seated. However no one showed up to make the food 1hr 15mins later. No show at all. It was a birthday and we're disappointed.
We came to Shogun for a birthday dinner with a party of five and ordered 2 Mikado, 2 Genji, and the Wagyu with calamari. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The chef seemed unfriendly and unhappy and didn’t really put on a show beyond the basic onion volcano. The lobster tails didn’t taste fresh and were extremely salty. The steak was also over-salted. This really ruined the mood for what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration. For the price, it wasn’t worth it. That said, the staff was great—very kind and attentive.
I'm not sure when the menu changed but was disappointed when my food came out to see that the veggies were different than they used to be, way less and tasted like they were frozen not fresh, also …
First of all I don't get why people will spend their money getting entertained to eat. You can just go sit on your couch and watch the movie while eating on a Chinese to go box. But let's all be fair here. Some people do enjoy that feeling and want to see it for the experience. So I cleared my head and threw away any biases that I have and told myself to "just enjoy the experience." After doing so, I still don't get it. The food is very mediocre, my best friend can cook better. Plus, the actual chicken and meats quality does not blow you away. Yes, the service might be unique because of all the throwing of knives and cooking tools, but what's the point of all that if the foods' quality is not great. I mean, thanks for the entertainment, but your meat is dry, and your rib eyes are super thin, I don't understand why you'd call that a rib eye. The meat that you eat at Korean BBQs is way better. The service is great, but it's not something memorable. So with that being said was the dancing of the knives worth it. I don't think so. Rather have a fine dining where there is no entertainment but at least my belly is entertained with nice high quality food. Bottom line is no matter what we say, we go out because we want to taste something that we are unable to taste in our own kitchen every day. If the restaurant fails to do that then anything else don't matter.
Awful the worse I ever had let's start . With the waitress very short not friendly at all. Then the cook comes out he looks. like he really didn't know what he was doing..we order drinks so glad we was close to the bar.not the bartender. Another employee came to get our drinks and she literally pick up strawberries pineapples with her hands to put them in our drinks no gloves it was awful. Needless to say we did not accept those drinks from there it was down Hill.
This place gets worse and worse every year. The bartender made the wrong drinks, twice. Most likely because he was doing shots on his own while he was talking to customers. The hostess was not friendly at all. Total RBF and seemed annoyed that she had to stop chatting with a coworker to show us to our table. She mumbled something quickly that none of our party of 7 heard or understood and quickly left. The cook was friendly enough but he didn’t speak English very well so we had no idea what he was saying. You go to this type of restaurant for the show when they prepare the food but he could do nothing more than the onion volcano. The food was cooked OK but he forgot to put egg in the fried rice and barely seasoned the red meat. We had a minor drink spill at our table. Our fault, but it took them 5 minutes to get someone to clean it up so we could start eating. I had to flag a busboy down to get it cleaned up even though the cook was standing right there. The saving grace was our server, Eugene. He was friendly and prompt but the rest of the experience ruined it. We’ve gone here every year for the last 15 years for my daughter’s birthday and it has only gotten worse. For the money you spend, it’s not worth it any more. We’ll be going back to Benihana.
1 star rating because 0 stars is available. While I understand places being packed and busy for Valentines Day, I still believe there are better ways to handle crowds. We came to Shogun from an entirely different restaurant in hopes that we could get actually have a good Valentines Day Dinner! We got in and were told the wait time would be around 15-20 minutes. A couple next to us even spoke up to us saying they had a reservation 30 minutes ago and got a longer wait time than us. Okay, that's already not looking too good. We got a table maybe 25 minutes into waiting. Ordered two Shirley temples; absolutely disgusting. Didn't taste like the grenadine whatsoever and had a really bad taste. Almost sour and bitter? Hard to describe. Had them taken back for lemonade instead. Our soup and salad was delivered with no forks to eat the salad. We would have flagged our waiter down, but he was impossible to find between all the other tables he was going to, including at the other side of the restaurant. The entree is where things got really bad. We were waiting for an hour just to receive our food. We seriously considered leaving and going somewhere else. The food wasn't worth the price or the wait. Steamed rice was undercooked and mein noodles were way too sweet. I was also surprised to see that our meats were served cubed instead of a whole piece cooked. We were under the impression that the steak and chicken we ordered wouldn't be a small cubed portion. Definitely not worth the wait. Really made our Valentines Day suck! Shout out to the super sweet manager, Gavin. Gavin was so nice and understanding of the issues we ran into that night and was able to adjust our bill accordingly. Thank you Gavin, we appreciate you!
Food was good and the atmosphere is also good! Rating the service a 1 star because I had gone to the bar to ask for a refill of water for 2 cups of water. As I was waiting at the bar, one of the girls (she had a pony tail with a ribbon in her hair) who’s name was Tammy (from what one of the workers informed me) rudely ignored me while helping other people that walked up after I was clearly waiting for her to assist me. One thing is to be busy and if she were to tell me she’ll be right with me, (I would of understood and waited patiently) but she straight up ignored me even though we had made eye contact and help others while continuing ignoring me. So for this TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I am going to be leaving a 1 star. Sad to say, traveling from Arizona, really excited to try this place for the first time, and this had to be my experience from this restaurant. I won’t lie, this experience really put a sour taste in my mouth. Definitely won’t be coming back. I’ll also be telling family and friends to not waste their money and time coming to this place as well. Hopefully this restaurant can educate their employees to treat costumers with respect and acknowledgment.
Unfortunately Disappointing Around 5pm I used the website to place a reservation but the only times they had available were after 8. I called and spoke to Ayden and asked if I absolutely needed a reservation or if I could walk in as I have a young daughter I hoped to eat earlier than 8pm Ayden informed me I didn’t need a reservation but I wouldn’t be seated until 8 if I walked in at 6. This was disappointing and a bit confusing to me but I kept my reservation for 8 and arrived on time ready and excited to eat. Parking was fairly simple they have accessible handicap parking a few feet from the entrance. We were sat around 8:05 order at 8:15. It was pretty busy- full of birthday celebrations and people at most tables. We watched everyone around us meet their chefs and enjoy their show. We all sat over an HOUR before our chef/cook arrived to begin cooking. A very hangry child, my older hungry mother and myself waiting with watered down drinks was Not fun. I am still extremely unsure why we made a reservation and did not begin eating until after 930! The chefs at the other tables were full of excitement and created a great show. Everyone at our table kept saying “this food and show much be exceptional to have us waiting this long” It was mediocre at best. Chef did not interact with us, barely made eye contact and did not do any cool tricks while cooking as others did. If I knew I wouldn’t eat until close to 10pm there is no way I would’ve made the reservation or decided to come to this restaurant. I ordered hibachi scallops that tasted undercooked or maybe just not fresh. Regardless ,I would not recommend coming here unless it’s during a slow lunch time. Don’t come hungry unless you’re okay with waiting hours to eat and definitely don’t bring kids that are ready to eat. You could save $150+ and go to Dennys next door for quicker inexpensive food and better customer service in my opinion.
At first our experience was going well until it came time for our food to arrive. We ordered the combination plate of chicken teriyaki and steak. They each came out on different small plates, and it arrived COLD. Our waitress did take our food back. We got our food the second time and it still wasn’t warm unfortunately. On top of that we waited 30-45min for the remainder of our food (fried rice) to come out. We just wanted to have a nice dinner and we left with our food and just enjoyed it at home. If you want your meals to be hot and served all on one plate then you have to reserve a spot at the chefs table according to the manager I spoke to. Do better. I also just realized that we weren’t even given our mixed vegetables..? This place is absolutely TERRIBLE!!! So not worth $70+ for two people.
