My friends and I have been going to Tool's for breakfast for over a year now. Our waitress Katie is fabulous and very reasonably priced with good portions. I have been there for lunch after church as well and again the food was really good and the service was great and the atmosphere is very inviting
Had a delicious ruben.Sat immediately, greeted immediately. Attentive friendly waitstaff. My 4th time here and I like.Comfortable and easy to carry on a conversation talking normal. I'm coming back again.
Love coming here for breakfast. Very quaint. Nice food. Nice service.
We've returned to this charming diner over and over, and it never fails to impress! It has that classic coffee shop vibe we cherished back in the day. The homemade cooking truly shines here—it’s comfort food at its finest. You can’t help but love the welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. Katie, one of our favorite servers, is a true gem! She remembers all her regulars by name and always greets them with a warm smile. And the desserts? Absolutely divine—you can’t leave without trying one! Everything about this place is on point: the cleanliness, the delicious food, and the attentive waitstaff who treated us with kindness and speed. Our meals arrived quickly and at a fantastic price. With such friendly service and mouthwatering dishes, we can’t wait to come back for another visit!
This is our first visit to this diner. Everything was clean, food was excellent, waitstaff was courteous and promp. We’ll be back!
Stopped by for the first time today for breakfast - will definitely be back! The food was great; served quickly and reasonably priced. The service was prompt and very friendly!
Homemade cooking at its best. This place has a nice neighborhood feel and the food is excellent. Katie is amazing, she has many regulars and greets them all by name. She makes the most amazing desserts, a must try.
HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!!! SMALL menus, HOMEMADE PIES! The baker works in HOUSE. THIS is the diner you grew up with. Friendly clean GREAT food no frills. I aim to come here for coffee and pie on a routine basis.
Absolutely great place to eat. Very friendly staff and they've never given my grandmother a problem about her service dog, we go in every chance we get. Prices are fair and the food is amazing.
Every time I've dined here @ TOOL'S! I've enjoyed the receptivity of the staff. Their attention to welcome you and the expediency of service. The food is well prepared for what you order. Their desserts are "totally" out of sight; delicious. My husband; who's been coming and eating here for over thirty years, Most often then not always takes an extra helping of dessert home to eat later." UM, UM, Great! We enjoy the atmosphere there so much. We'll be celebrating my " Milestone " B'day there in their back dining room. What a time we are planning.Right there in our Delmar neighborhood!
This is a great place to go in the delmar area if you'd like a quick breakfast or lunch! It's a small family friendly diner type restaurant where the servers are super experienced, very efficient, and extremely friendly! They have alot of regulars come in to visit. Coffee is always fresh and hot and refilled quickly. The breakfasts are amazing and chef always cooks our eggs perfectly!! Prices are super reasonable, too! I have only ordered breakfast style foods, but from overhearing other patrons order, they have a wide variety of other selections as well!!! 🍳🥓🥞🧇
Nice spot for a big breakfast!!! Met our aunt's for some breakfast and got a sweet spot in the back at a large table. Coffee was flowing and the service was great. Everyone loved their breakfast and the proportions were just right and all came out timely with a smile.
Had lunch. The Chicken deluxe sandwich was very good. Cold slaw and other options were available as a substitute for French fries. The cold slaw was excellent. My friend enjoyed his chicken wrap. Portion size was appropriate for a lunch - not huge and not small. Service was fast with knowledgeable waitstaff. Atmosphere is clean but a bit dated.
I used to go here with my parents until my father got it in his head not to patronize Tool's anymore. First time in quite some time I had lunch with a close friend and it was good. Turkey Club, very good French Fries, and diet Coke or Pepsi. If I'm ever in the area I definitely would eat here again. Still family run, which I like, very much.
Busy place filled with an older crowd. It is cute to hear people discuss their memories of this place while they grew up. Food and prices are fair. They have daily specials and all desserts are homemade. Hours seem limited to me, I think they close at 8PM last I checked but I think that works for the community. Good place to go for breakfast.
Had breakfast and was very disappointed. Didn't like seasoning in potatoes, scrambled eggs were ok, ham was luke warm. Won't be going back!!!
The door was open, so we walked in. The waitresses yelled, in an unpleasant tone: ""We're closed!" When I pointed out that there was no sign on the door, they shouted, in an equally unpleasant voice that there was a board. The women could have given the same info in a much more pleasant manner. It's not at all clear to me why they wd leave the door open. The message that I re v lived was that I was inconveniencing them even though they had left the door open. They clearly don't care about customers. When I told them that I wouldn't come again because of their behavior, t hh ey shrugged their shoulders and rolled their eyes. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!
It's rare that a place and server deserved zero tip but just a tour de force here. If you're not a local (which I am) and if you are not known to them, don't waste your time. If they did one single thing right I would've tipped out of obligation because I've served and bussed tables before. Not here. Every item of food took forever, we were served after people who came before us, and the food came out cold except my son's $10 kids meal hot dog (fries were cold). The bar for my expectations and deserving a diner tip are very low. For example, if any single one thing they messed up just wasn't messed up, then I would've left a tip. Like warm food? Tip. The french dip having actually dip/au jus being served with it? Tip. The waitress just not spilling half my kids fries on the floor? Tip. The waitress spilling the fries but actually replacing them? Tip. The waitress at any point before the bill coming back and asking if the boys needed more water? Tip. The au jus for my French dip was brought out after my wife and two little kids were in the car, and I had been waiting for 10 minutes for my check. No apology or acknowledgment at all. If you are saying "well why did you stay? Why did you pay? I would've walked out! It's your own fault!" You are correct. But when you have two kids under 4 who are hungry and cranky and you've been to two other places with hour long waits while on the road, the answer is unfortunately "this place or we go without food. Just give me something warm to eat". Little did we know that was not on the menu this Saturday afternoon. Do yourself a favor. Go to the luncheonette or My Place down the road if you have to stay local, or drive to albany or Selkirk instead. Or Stewart's for better service.
