Fun Experience!!

Stopped in at St. Charles Place for a couple drinks while we enjoyed the day exploring Downieville. The old building was very cool. Lots of vintage decor still around. The place was clean and the bartender was friendly and attentive. I believe there are some tables out back on a riverside patio, but I didn't make it out there.

Oldest bar in California. Rustic.

Not a bad place for a mountain, gold mining town in California. They have a pretty good selection of different kinds of craft beers and the regulars for the lawn mower beer crowd. They don't serve food but then again they are way up in the Sierra mountains in California And there are a couple of places locally to buy food. Definitely worth the stay and the visit. Make sure to visit the local newspaper called the mountain messenger, owned and run by a guy named Don Russell. He's a local bum that doesn't let truth get in the way of a good story but definitely worth introducing yourself to. He hangs out at the St Charles place on Thursday nights during happy hour. After running his paper route to deliver his newspapers he can be found drinking gin and tonic at the St Charles. He's a great guy but he's a bum.
