Proletariat East Village Reviews
Awesome little nook for a great selection of local craft brews! Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff and the pour you get for your $$ is worth every penny! Must visit, must enjoy!
Wow, what a selection of libations. Cozy and yet spacious at the same time. My only humble critique were the two headbangers that were ill timed. While they do fit my auditory repertoire, they were jockeyed in an inopportune succession.
A tiny beer bar with a bustling and busy atmosphere. Most nights this place is raucous with students and craft beer enthusiasts alike. It’s not got a lot of seating and the size and shape of the bar means it can be difficult to move around and get to the washroom, but it’s a high quality beer bar with a great list. A very cool and hip spot.
Proletariat was probably my favorite bar experience I had during my trip to New York. Amazing selection of local beer and a really cozy vibe. If you're lucky enough to get a seat at the bar you will not be dissapointed.
Would have rated the food but kitchen was closed. Shares space with the mushroom restaurant next door so ther can be the option of getting food from there and having it delivered to the bar m, but it depends on foot traffic. On the other hand, it’s probably easier to go to the restaurant next door and order beers from the bar here because it’s less of an overall stress on the staff. The beer list here is thoughtful and there are some very meat bottles on the bottle list. This spot deserves a place on any list of significant beer bars in Manhattan.
Ok. No food. The five stars are for the awesome beer offerings. Some top notch NEIPAS, sours, bretts, lagers and pilsners. A great dimly kit bar, awesome bartender (I must do better at remembering names) and while I was there, so really good tunes in the background. Plenty on tap and for takeaway. I mean some good quality hard to find craft beer. No macro crap. It's on the lower east side so being a native, or possessing the ability to navigate that part of Manhattan (it's less on the grid than the rest of the city) helps.
Awesome little beer bar with great staff and selection. The tap list includes 20 beers wonderfully curated to cover a broad range of styles and tastes, but definitely leans toward the unique, hard-to-find, specialty end of craft beer. It's the first place I've ever seen Black Tuesday and couldn't pass it up.
If you love craft beer, a chill vibe, AND the east village, then you'll love Proletariat! It's a very spacious place that provides a beer menu on the wall right when you walk in. They have seating but no wait staff so you'll have to order your drinks at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable and very friendly! If you want to have a nice conversation at a place that isn't too loud while enjoying a variety of beer, then I highly recommend Proletariat. I'll definitely return. 🍺
As of late 2022, located at a new address a few blocks from their original location. The new space is significantly larger than the old one, but they've manage to maintain the cozy vibe. Plenty of seats in the bar area plus a number of small tables. 20 rotating beers on draft, occasional bottle pours, plus a large well-curated selection of cans and bottles. They also have a kitchen cooking up plant-based versions of familiar bar food items.
Been drinking here for years, and digging their new spot (a stones throw away from the frat bar known as McSorely's). Classing up 7th st (but really, I do dig a simple 'light beer' as well.) The food is vegan, but don't let it dissuade you. The Welsh Rarebit is damn tasty. Zucchini fries are good, but for the price I'd rather Bubble and Squeek. The waiter was helpful, courteous, and comped a beer after realizing he forgot my order. OH!!! They're testing a new popcorn recipe which (note to the owners) must go on the menu. Or offered for free. For real, salty snacks=I will order more beer. To which- $4 small pours should be staple everywhere.
Great new vegan food option! Proletariat’s new space is nice with a wall between the bar and the tables to help keep the noise down. The rarebit was reeeaaallly yummy, so cheesy! Food was good overall and we will definitely be back to try the other options on the menu. Our only issues were that it was weirdly super cold inside and service was fairly slow for how few people were there when we were.
I liked this place, it wasn’t insanely crowded when we came in on a Saturday night which was a plus. The variety of artsy beers was fun and I went with a group and we all ordered different ones and were able to try each other’s. Damn some of them were really expensive though even for NYC standards! And echoing other reviews I wish we could’ve tasted a couple of them beforehand. For instance we ordered the sour beer and all hated it and that was $11 spent for no reason.
