Champagne Cafe & Bakery Encinitas Reviews
This is a wonderful place to come and have a nice outdoor lunch in the beautiful colony of Olivenhain. I’ve been going to the Champagne Bakery for 22 years and it’s always a pleasure.
This place is amazing, the food is amazing! Very quite and good atmosphere!
Excellent bakery. While I was there, this lady with a rather thick French accent was buying about 18 croissants. A good sign I thought as I waited to be served! My friend and I were there for quite a while and the whole time the place had a constant influx of customers. Everything in the case looked really delicious and my Lemon Blueberry Muffin tasted a bit like cheesecake. Yum! There is seating indoors and even more seating on the patio. The atmosphere is pleasant but have a shawl or scarf with you because even when sitting indoors it is cool with so many people in and out of the bakery. I write this in December. Overall the service was good although after it was served I did have to ask for my muffin to be heated. It would have been nice if that had been offered by my server. It's a small thing that would have been appreciated. The quality of Champagne Bakery's products is high and the prices reflect that - that is not a complaint.. this is one place I highly recommend for great value for one's dollar. Recommended!
I love this delightful little place so much! The pastry choices are as plentiful as they are delicious. The dishes are varied from the normal hum drum every other eating place, so it's fun to go try new things. We love to eat outside, under the beautiful trees by the fountain. I think my favorite item is the trio of fruit tarts. We also love to bring extra pastries home, but they never last. Just to be clear, it's because we eat them, so I have no idea how long they could actually stay fresh.
This is my favorite little hidden lunch paradise. The white peach iced tea and melted brie, apple, and fig jam sandwich are to die for, as are all the French pastries, crepes, and quiches. The service is quick, the staff is friendly and the little tables in the sunny courtyard are peaceful and pleasant. Has none of the snootiness of the Ranch and all of the charm!
Our first experience was impressive. Good food, ordered at the register, brought to an outdoor patio table. I had French dip and she had Parisienne salad. We'll go back, soon!
I live in Ladera Ranch and last weekend I drove 52 miles to the Encinitas Champagne Bakery! When I lived in Irvine, we had two locations and also one in South Coast Plaza. Every Sunday I would go for breakfast/and or lunch at the one in Woodbridge. The chicken salad sandwich + spring salad was one of my favorites . . . but the French Curry Dressing was absolutely the best! I've never been one for salad dressing on my salads but the French Curry was on the side and I was curious to try it. So glad I did! It had such a great taste and it only took a small amount to liven up a salad. Since then, I would buy and take home a small container of the French Curry for my salads at home. All 3 locations have since closed and only the Encinitas and San Diego locations remain open. What a sad day for the customers. We would LOVE to have a store re-open real soon! In speaking to Rebecca, from the Encinitas location, there may be a chance that a Champagne Bakery could return to Irvine or within Orange County. As a long-time customer, please open an Orange County store soon. I will definitely go back to my Sunday breakfast + lunch visits . . . and take home a container of your fabulous French Curry Dressing! 😃
Wonderful outside seating area. Delicious chicken curry croissant sandwich. Tried a friend's Nicoise salad & it was great. Omelettes looked good (& I'm told are very good, as well as the quiche & paninis). Fast service. I noticed others here have said the prices are high, but they seemed comparable to other quality places.
It is a lovely place to seat outside under a shading of very large tree. The bakery here is so fresh and delicious to go with their amazing simple cup of coffee. It seems like sitting in a beautiful backyard of some luxury home for breakfast. The landscaping is amazing with a little water fountain, well maintaining landscaping, surrounding with large trees. Bakery, breakfast, coffee and services here are amazing. I will come back here again and again.
Best patisserie in San Diego County! Everything is excellent and the service is very accommodating. I frequently bring friends for lunch on the patio and take pastries home as well. I always pick up desserts there for special occasions.
My best friend showed me this place, and it’s our favorite date spot in Encinitas. The food is always delicious, the drinks are always nice, and the desserts will always be my favorite!
I've been coming here since my family biz started renting in the same plaza as Champagne. Everyone here is so nice and I love coming in for a coffee or snack. If I'm hungry I'll go for their french onion soup -- which tastes REALLY REALLY GOOD! Shoutout to Erica, the current owner, and the other staff members that keep the place running. I believe that if you are respectful and kind to those in any industry, you get the same treatment back. We love coming here to lunch with our staff after big events as well. I look forward to coming back more and trying out their new stuff! I think I've tried like 56% of their menu so far. Thank you Champagne, you guys will always see me coming here! 🥰🫶🏻
I have been going to this bakery for over 20 years and never disappoints. Our family is grateful for the kind service provided all around! Highly recommend to grab a bite, dessert or a cake for any special occasion!
With its spacious outdoor seating area, this location offers a much nicer and more peaceful atmosphere compared to their other branches. The staff is friendly, especially Brian, he’s great at his job, attentive to customers, and very professional. Thanks, Brian!
A charming place with delicious food. I had the Chicken Florentine Crepes. They were very tasty, good sized and come with a salad. The salad dressing is exceptionally good: creamy, lemony and thankfully not sweet. There is a very attractive seating area outside. It was clean but I noticed the tables were not disinfected between seatings. Otherwise, the staff and customers complied with mask wearing and distancing. Parking is ample and free in this shopping center. Bathrooms serve the whole shopping center and you're given a key to use them. Can't wait to return and try other things.
We came here on a Sunday after a hike and sat on the patio listening to music and eating good food. It was just a great vibe. I had the breakfast panini (spinach, bacon and egg) with potatoes. The bread for the panini was superb. It wasn’t anything fancy. But just good food served with delicious bread and a lovely outdoor atmosphere under a beautiful Spring sky.
Terrific spot for breakfast, eats, lunch.... and the pastries!!! Oh my god! Delicious. Wonderful coffee too - several different flavours. And authentic. I personally got the strata breakfast and got a great to go box. And it was very reasonable priced. $10 for breakfast! A GOOD breakfast... no fast food. And the pastries.... 😭🤤🤤🤤
Stopped by Champagne Bakery this morning for an espresso. I saw these little beauties in the display case. Yum! But the Jésuite are even more tempting. If you have never had one... a Jésuite is a triangular, flaky pastry filled with frangipane cream and topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar. They are amazing! Crunchy, flakey, sweet, nutty and similar to an almond croissant, but way better. They also have some of the best Palmiers that I know of in San Diego. On days when I have more time, I enjoy coming here for an omlete or crepes.
This sandwich was delicious, surprisingly not heavy and nice consistency with the cheese. People are kind and answered all my questions haha! Loved it the coffee looks good although I didn’t have any I can tell it’s already better than Starbucks, can’t wait to try :) Only complaint is it was so hot in the store like I’m not sure if they have an air conditioner...

One of the best French Bakery. This bakery has a lot to offer. A visit to the bakery won't be a disappointment. I highly recommend this bakery. Customer service is 10/10. The price is very reasonable. It has an outdoor sitting area.
There food is delicious! Give it a try if you are looking for something more authentic.. spinach quichi and creamy tomato pasta ..
I would have given a one star, based on how my experience started out, but they definitely deserve more - a nearly perfect score - by the way the management stepped in to correct my order and "make it right" with me. I had told the guy when he took my "take out" order that I was in a time crunch so I ordered a cold sandwich and a full salad to go. He said it wouldn't take long (and I gave him my name - I didn't sit at a table with a number). I waited about ten minute and then about 20... with no food. I was growing impatient and trying to figure it out when a lady came to me and said that someone else had taken my order to go mistakenly (probably) and she would quickly make my sandwich and salad and bring it to me now. She came back to me about 6 minutes later with everything, including a tart and baguette with their compliments. She also said she would refund me my $$ from my order because of the mix up. I've not seen this type of service and 'wanting to make it right' with the customer in a long time. They have awesome service - but may be a little overburdened at the check out register... although I think they're trying hard and I'll go back again to see how it goes. The food was great! I would give a five star rating but they've got a little room for improvement. I still will recommend this place as a great lunch spot and cool vibe in Encinitas.
This place is very nice and laid back. Nice fountain outside you can sit under the trees and relax. There is no bathroom in the cafe, you need to get the key and walk back into a different part of the plaza. It wasn't too difficult to find but not readily accessible if someone else has the key. The outside tables aren't always very clean but it's a relaxing spot. The coffee and the pastries are delicious. Lots of little birds that sing and look for scraps they add personality and a charm to the location. The trees drop small flowers that will fall in your hair if you sit under them.
Great coffee and good sandwich but barely any chicken in it. It didnt fill me up. I do like the potato salad, which was made from red potatoes.
Nice selection of bakery goods, sandwiches, and drinks, both hot and cold. Pleasant outdoor seating area. French got chocolate was delicious.

first time just stopped in while waiting nearby. ordered a chai which they kindly adjusted to be iced. ordered a cinnamon roll, which looked delicious, soft, and plenty of icing in the window & requested it be warmed up. i did noticed they appeared low staffed, but was disappointed the worker left it in the oven for 15 minutes, where the dough turned crispy and much of the icing was gone or hardened. i didn’t have time any to wait for a new one, so didn’t request, but would’ve preferred a cold one if i knew they were not going to be very attentive to the orders. no big deal but probably won’t return
I used to love their patio. They sadly cut down all the trees. I’m sure they had a good reason for it but I can’t help disliking the new barren look. There are still some umbrellas for shade but if you used to come and enjoy the charming patio under the trees, it just isn’t that good anymore. The food and drinks are still decent.
Champagne used to have my favorite French toast in the area, a beautiful yummy berry spread, nice thick slices and bacon to boot. Tried the brioche French toast today and it was mid, at best. The brioche toast was made from brioche buns. They were tough, barely dipped in the egg custard, generally bland in flavor, and it's like getting the heal of the bread in all three slices. They included a good handful of strawberries, no cream. The bacon was good. Overall this was pretty disappointing and I wouldn't go out of my way to have this again.

I’ve been coming here for years and absolutely loved the cheese danish. It used to be fluffy, sweet and creamy. Now it’s salty, dense and bland. It has the taste and texture of a pre frozen pastry. Fortunately the jesuite was still good for now.
The quality had been going down hill, but it was still one of the better French pastry place around this area. With covid, service took a hit as well. We arrived at a busy time for breakfast. They refused to take an order for hot food. By the time we ate our pastries, they were taking orders again for hot food. I understand the current understaffing issue. However, they could have taken a delayed order and put us in the queue. We were willing to wait. Quality wise, the almond croissant was not crunchy nor tasty (not enough butter). It wasn't good even compared to what we can order delivered with our vegetable box. We will still buy their cakes for special occasions - that are going up in price like everything else. But that's about it.
Disappointing, especially at $4.25. Ordered a chocolate croissant this morning while driving by because it looked delicious. Unfortunately, it was soft and squishy. No crust whatsoever. The ganache was nice but the whole point of a croissant is the flakey crust. This had none and for $4.25 I expected better.
This spot bums me out because it could be amazing. I’ve given it 4 tries in 6 months since the place was updated. I’d love to give this place a good review. It’s close, in a nice spot, good parking, upscale area - but it gets a low 2/5. Today was the last time I’ll go. First time, I Door Dashed a French dip and it was pretty good. Second time I did the same and it was not good. Old roast beef that time, tossed it Third time I took my son and we got Benedicts and dined there. The bennies were decent that time, the potatoes they come with were inedible - objectively not good. Soggy cold leather. Are the bennies. My son wanted eggs benedict again this morning. Beautiful Sunday morning, it’s close, I figured we’d try again, and skip the potatoes. The whole family went. We were hopeful. We stood in line & ordered at the counter. Pastries behind glass looked just ok. Some were visibly undercooked, raised an eyebrow given it’s a bakery. We ordered 2 bennies, 1 eggs and bacon meal, 1 strawberry crepes. We went outside to find a patio table. Nice place physically, shaded but sunny. Every empty table was covered in old meals from long departed customers. It wasn’t 2 or 3, it was all of them - maybe 12. Wife’s bacon and eggs came and it looked awful. The crepes came and the fresh strawberries were mush and had obviously sat out for a long time. The yellowish crème on the leathery crepes was sour. Neither of the Benedicts ever showed up. After 30 mins or so sitting there after the first two inedible meals came, we tossed them both and got a refund for the 2 that never showed up (along with an undelivered kid’s drink and a fruit salad). Inside while waiting for a refund I had to stand in line behind other unhappy customers - all justified. It’s a shame that a place with this much potential is run poorly. They didn’t look especially understaffed or busy. I could see 2 cooks, 2 wait staff and a counter girl. 5 people maybe 20 customers, nothing crazy or difficult. Check# 1307 if anybody upstairs cares to look. 9/7/25 10:12 am. Maybe they’ll see this and fix it. I’d love to delete this review and have a great spot to eat close to home. I attached a few pics of un-bussed tables. Could have taken ~10 more but you get the idea. They sat like that the entire time.
Looks delicious. Even the outdoor area is charming but it doesn't matter if 90% of the tables are covered with left over plates and dishes. We had a man warn us about the long waiting time (30min+ for a dish) and decided to go with the pastries instead. The two stars go out for the chai because it seemed the only enjoyable option as the pastries were extremely dry, plain and the coffee underwhelming. My friend had two bites of the cheese danish and left it be. My cinnamon roll barely tasted like cinnamon or sugar and had walnuts in there? Even the sugar glaze did not taste like you would expect from a Cafe/Restaurant that has the name "french" in the name. Looks don't make up for it.
This place has gone downhill. I have come here many times for many years, and the past two times will be my (and my friends’) last. Atmosphere is nice, some workers are too. However, certain workers and managers are extremely rude and hostile. Some of the food was good, the rest was unexciting. The good items however are no longer enjoyable. My go-to is the strawberry crepe, but paying $12 for 1/4 of the product it used to be was not on my bucket list. The turkey and swiss sandwich was completely unappetizing and I took it back. A lovely staff member was there to hear and allowed me to have a replacement item on the menu as this is a policy anyways. Then, a manager decided to be confrontational and told me no one has disliked this sandwich before and it was just me. Well, I got a replacement in the end after half an hour, so it is what it is. I tried the strawberry white chocolate cake and it tasted like it was from a grocery store. My friend was also unimpressed. The french baguette on their sandwiches is impossible to break off. I was basically scooping out the insides of the sandwich since the external of the bread was like rubber. I used to regard this place with high acclaims and have brought many friends here with me. I cannot support this place anymore though with the way it has already headed and continues to, somehow, get worse every week. It is a shame.

I don't know what fats they're using for baking their croissants (and all the pastries), but it's not just plain butter. The croissants are not good, they're dry and overly yeasty. But again more importantly, they're not using 100% butter as they should be for an expensive cafe, using either margarine or oils in addition for the pastries. Their coffee is also unfortunately bad, like astonishingly bad, tastes like dirt. Don't recommend those items.

Tried placing an order online and it said to call the store because of the contents of the order, try calling and no one answers after a long time ringing still no one.
I waited 20 min, alone in the patio for my order. The woman at the front was busy with people, and the men in the kitchen were having so much fun, no one could bring me my order. You need two people in front with two registers, and someone to run food orders. You may have revamped, but I won’t be back, and I want my money refunded. #31 table number I won’t suggest you to any one!
I have been coming here every week on Tue and Thu between 3 and 4 for the last 4 months. The food and service quality is a hit or miss at this place. There are times when we get everything quickly and it all tastes fresh and great and then there are times when food comes out to you in instalments and sometimes cold. Lattes have lately started to taste terrible and burnt - not sure if they clean their espresso machine regularly. Staff is kind but it does not help. I think the owners are banking on the location and regular clients too much but quite frankly there are several other great bakeries and coffee shops all around Encinitas. This place needs to up their game.
We came to eat lunch outside on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t too busy. But every table outside was dirty plates on every single table. And I try to get the attention of somebody to come Clean the table, but nobody responded
Prices have skyrocket, and the food is horrible. They "forgot" to ring up part of our order and when we finally got it 25 minutes later, Crepes, they were stone cold. So glad I wasn't charged for them!! Had to pay $2.55 for a fruit cup of old cantaloupe and honeydew. My first clue to steer clear should have been that they weren't busy on a Sunday at 11 am.
Cappuccino and flat white horrible. Butter croissant is in reality a dinner role made with half butter and crisco. Waist of $$.

I ordered french dip sandwich. The bread was old like a stone. Meat is cold so the dip is cold. It is a very disappointing sandwich. Service was very poor. We ordered 2 cappucino they bring it with the meal. Food came almost in 20 minutes. Salad they put next to sandwich was dirty. I believe it is not washed. We are really sad that this place serving these kind of food.
Complete lack of customer service. My wife and her friends have consistently had troubles here. For example, she recently sat down with her friends, and it took 30 minutes, for them to serve an iced coffee. Today was another crazy example for lack of service. There was a power outage last night and this is the closest bakery to our house. Our bread machine did not work and I was hoping to buy a simple loaf of bread. Kids have to get school, and we needed bread for breakfast and for school lunches. I came in the door at 6:15. Doors were open and there was a woman behind the counter. I asked her if I could buy a loaf of bread. She deferred to a man named Brian. He told me they couldn’t sell me bread until 6:30. I said I could pay cash and said they could keep the rest for a tip. Brian said he was unable to do it. He is full of BS, because I have purchased things before 6:30 at this bakery before. Unfortunately, today was a bit of an emergency to get food for my family. The young woman at the counter and Brian exchanged a snarky remark as I left the door. I turned around and said, “excuse me?” Brian’s response said he would call security. !?!? I hope management reviews the security footage and addresses this issue.
I love this place but you have mislabeled pastries and you have argumentative staff. A princesscake (google it) is Swedish, not French and nothing like you offer. It’s false advertising. I’ts embarrassing that you as a bakery mislabel your pastries. If someone asks for a tiramisu (it) would your feel comfortable serving them a Napoleon? I have addressed this before but got no answer. You don’t care? You don’t have a princesscake.
Very disappointed. Both pastries purchased this morning I tried were stale and hard. A reputable french bakery selling at a premium should serve freshly made Croissants and Pastries; not a week old left overs.

I’ts embarrassing that you as a bakery mislabel your pastries. If someone asks for a tiramisu (it) would your feel comfortable serving them a Napoleon? I have addressed this before but got no answer. You don’t care? You don’t have a princesscake.
