The Tapas es Mercadal Reviews
Very pleasant location, lively but not too busy. Staff helpful and friendly.
That's a rare 5 star rating from my side! This is how good this place really was! We were there on a summer night for tourism, we wanted to try a good tapas restaurants and skip our hotel brunch dinner for a night. This place is located in a very touristic area on the old town so we thought it might be a tourist trap which we were pleasantly surprised it was not!! We ordered a lot of different tapas almost all fish based and let me tell you, we had one of the most delicious meals we had in a looong time! The highlight for us was definitely the fry calamari and the patatas bravas. The Pomada was very delicious and served in a good generous portion. The restaurant was PACKED, we had to wait in line to be seated but that's totally normal for such busy locations especially during summer. The service was friendly and professional. I loved the food there, the mood was also very chill summer night. We can't complain about a thing! I would totally recommend this place, it is a must try if you are in the area and would like to have a delicious meal!
Unreal value, great staff, amazing food and fantastic value. Honestly a brilliant experience and with 5 kids that can wander around the pedestrian square while food was prepared.
Lovely food, very relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend giving it a go, menu on the table using a QR code
Wow. Just wow. Incredible food, super cute and lively location, and impecable service. This restaurant is in the heart of Es Mercadal which is a really pretty town, and this is in their ‘high street’ which is very quaint and lovely. The food is traditional Menorcan but with a bit of a twist. And that twist really differentiates it’s from other tapas on the island. We ate (and highly recommend): burrata salad, croquetas, biniato (sweet potato with sobrasada and honey), chipirrones (baby squid), beef samosas. All were amazing but the STAR of the show was the torta de queso (Minorca baked cheesecake)…I don’t even really like cheesecake that much but this was insanely good. Do not leave without ordering it! Couldn’t recommend this place enough, you should definitely go - food, location and ambience all 5*
We popped into this place for lunch as the Spanish language reviews on Google were great which is always a good sign. When the locals eat there it generally suggests more interesting food than the standard tapas selection and that certainly turned out to be the case. We had the ortigas del mar (sea urchins) which was a first for me - like an even more delicious type of mussels . We also had the chipirones, Deep fried baby squid - also delicious, the sweet potato fries and some sobrasada empanadas with honey. All fantastic, delivered quickly by friendly staff and reasonably priced
Superb food and service , some of nicest freshly prepared and presented food on the island we've seen, and we've been coming foray years! Reasonable price too! We had the carpaccio ( served beautifully in a bone, well seasobed alongside fresh butter and wonderfully crisp bread, the beef meatballs ( the ragu was stunning that the meatballs were in, you could tell it was made with love and good fresh ingredients!) The tomato bread ,(again wonderful fresh ingredients, crisp bread, nice portion) and well balanced dessert options served on a plate that looked like a spade head, with little shovels as spoons. Amazing to see real craft , skill and passion put into making the food sing for its own Ingredients, nothing to pretensious , just let the amazing local cuisine shine its self. Will definitely be back this year and many more to come!
We visited on the busy Thursday market night [ book or arrive early !]. Excellent tapas with generous portions and brilliant service even on a busy night with dishes arriving with a nice pause instea…
Excellent all round. Amazing food. Good service and such a nice place to go with the family for a lunch. Would come back again in an instant.
We probably turned up a bit early to sample the atmosphere later but the tapas was very good. Service was excellent.
We popped by here briefly on our wander around this delightful little town. We bagged one of the few remaining tables in the shade under the parasols and ordered a limon granizado and an ice tea. Very refreshing. Service was delivered with courtesy and a smile. All good.
Very good service and excellent tapas, 🐙 octopus was 5 stars, the vieras too and one of the best was the croquetes. The Angus meat balls where good. The dessert was great creation, for my taste the mango was missing taste but the others were delicious. Great place and highly recommended.
Great little place to eat with very good food and welcoming friendly staff would eat here again if passing through.
Food was excellent however even considering how busy it was, the service was lacking. Upon ordering we enquired if hot sauce was available, when informed that it was we requested some. It took a further two requests to get some. At the time it finally arrived we were halfway through our meal. It also took two separate requests for salt. As stated, the food was excellent (and when finally received the hot sauce was also very good)
Service is excellent. They welcome you nicely and the service is fast however I was a bit disappointed with the food. We had the avocado and prawns tartar and the prawns really tested as fridge. We had couple of tapas more and were very average. I’m sure they can improve the food easily. Lovely location at the village main square.
Lovely cute place, nice service but the food is bad. The pizza is basically bread with cheese, quite offensive to call that a pizza. The burger was really bad. Cheap frozen meat. Highlight of the meal was patatas bravas hate doing those reviews but when food is bad I can’t help myself
Went for early evening drinks to be told by a very unfriendly waitress that we could only stay for dinner and asked us to leave. We went across the road to Poca Soltes and was warmly greeted by a lovely host who was happy to serve us just drinks. We later ordered some delicious tapas. We could see the place we was asked to leave for only wanting drinks initially and they had a lot of empty tables all evening. We had a lovely time in Poca Soltas and would definitely go back and definitely recommend! But not this place I’m afraid. Needs friendlier staff
