Los Charros Escondido Reviews
It’s a cute little Hispanic restaurant. The ambiance and its decor is as if you walked into your Moms house and the house smells good with the aromas of her cooking. The waitress’s are sweet & kind. I got the POZOLE and Love got the POLLO EN MOLE (no photo because it was demolished right away) Both were very delicious. We even had some of the bacon wrapped shrimp. 🔥🔥🔥 I would definitely recommend.
Best Mexican food ever! Everything taste delicious and cooked to perfection... So glad we found you! Good service, clean and authentic place. MUST TRY! Google, why 4.7 out of 8 when I see 5.0 on ALL 11 reviews? Huh?!
First and definitely not last. The amount of food was just perfect for my husband. But too much for me. Everything is delicious, flavorful, fresh. Reminded me of my grandma's cooking . Staff is very friendly and nice.
The food was well prepared and there was a large selection of Mexican goodies. That's not usually all it takes for me though for a restaurant. I need the staff to also be amazing and they certainly were. Wish I could give 6 stars.
The shrimp burrito was delicious. The fish burrito was also tasty and filling. The kids quesadilla plate was a win with our four and seven year old kids. Recommended. Will return when we are back in town.
Great food! Have been coming here for years and it is one of my favorite places to eat. I highly recommend! Friendly staff always welcoming you in with a smile.
This is from my heart! Firstly, it is extremely important for my family to patronize a local/family restaurant, especially during these times. Secondly, we have been going to Los Charros for many years. "Mama", and I use this word affectionately, remembers my son and I...our breakfast burrito, extra crispy tortilla, no rice, beans, bacon ham... Mama has seen our son grow up...he is now 24...he is home for awhile...and Mama remembers. We were there last night! Great food and loving folks! THANK YOU, BE SAFE! Mr Bob
Always super homey vibe inside, very welcoming.. food is always delish.. awesome spiced enchilada sauce with cloves and their carnitas are fantastic, seared on the flattop for that perfect half crispy, half super tender texture. Everything I’ve ever eaten there has been great
This is my new favorite place. I always drive by, there are always so many people in here and I see why! The have the best, not joking, the best Mexican food I've had in Escondido. You can call in your order, order to go, or eat in. They have a lot of seating, and the atmosphere is lively, and cozy. The prices are comparable to any other place around there, but the quality and the taste makes it stand out above the rest! This is going to a regular place for us for sure!
Highly recommend! Last night I bought my family dinner here. It was our first time visiting this place and their food was delicious. Their sauces was very unique and had a lot of flavor. I will definitely be returning.
I was hoping this place would be great as it's always busy and the reviews online are good so I took a shot at it. Iv tried almost every Mexican place in a 4 mile radius and always disappointed. We ordered 3 burritos, rolled tacos, beans and rice. All was really good and satisfying except the rice. I just don't like mixed veg. in my rice and this has them. I still ate it just not my fav. I WILL be back. And I'm glad I finally found a good place to eat close to my family.
Fast and friendly service and a clean and cozy dining room. I ordered my favorite dish, a shredded beef chimichanga, and it was everything I had hoped for. Beef was tender and savory. The fried tortilla tasted fresh, and the beans and rice sides were fresh and delicious. I loved the green salsa, too. I will be back, as I have found my favorite new restaurant.
Ate here with my mom and we left very full. Can never go wrong with bacon wrapped shrimp! This is a smaller restaurant that fills up really fast. Simply because they have great food. They have some great salsas and a great staff. Clean little place that makes amazing meals. Don't pass this place cause you don't know what you are missing.
Absolutely delicious! Service is great. They are so friendly. Favorite Mexican Restaurant! I live close to Harrison Ohio, but drive out to the one in Greensburg Indiana, definitely worth it!
We just LOVE it here. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is cozy authentic.
As I said, for me,the food is excellent. I say for me because of the items that I like and order are outstanding. There have been a number of items that others have ordered and I have tried that are good, but they are dishes that I normally don't like. The salsa's our outstanding, some of the best I've had. You need to try Los Charros and see if your go to dishes are as good as my go to dishes.
This restaurant is one to stop by and experience their delicious foods and homemade drinks. My favorite dish is seafood (Shrimp/Octopus cocktail) you have a wide selection of foods to order. Don't forget their Customer Service is above and beyond and it's a great atmosphere too. If you are hungry for Mexican food come and check them out. Enjoy, animoooo
This is Truly the best Mexican food that you can find in Escondido. I was told by friends that this place in #1. My wife and I went their last night and were totally surprised at the Quality, Freshness and Service this place offers. If I could give six stars I would. Many of the Mexican restaurants in Escondido are no better than fast food joints. This place raises the bar on great food. Enjoy!
This is the best Mexican food in Escondido. A full-featured menu with good prices and a very friendly staff. Once I ordered two burritos (one to go) and forgot to grab it from the counter on my way out. The next visit they comped my food. Highly recommended.
It's the cat's meow of Mexican food! Was shown this place by a friend and have to say it's hands down the best spot in the Escondido for Mexican food. The breakfast burritos are not soaking in grease, the tortilla chips appear to be made in-house, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is very welcoming. Will definitely be recommending everyone to give them a try!
If you're looking for a refined fine dining experience, you won't find it here. On the other hand, if you want truly delicious and authentic Mexican food, you will find lots of that here. And, it's all at great prices. I recommend the daily specials.
The food is quite good, and the waitresses are really nice. I've been here a few times and the only negativeexperience was I found a fly in my water once, but personally I didn't care since the food was very yummy. So just get horchata instead!
Food was so delicious. So much food for such a reasonable price service was excellent they were very accommodating for a large group. Very cute atmosphere air conditioned and cool.
The menudo was incredible. Their miches are really good too.
Folks, this place has friendly Customer services! The wait was not long at all. Our waitress was prompt and kept checking on us...Go check them out
Excellent service and food. Massive portions and greatly priced
Great food, definitely recommend
Great tasting food and friendly service. A+
The food here is absolutely amazing reminds me of my grandma's cooking when I was younger!
My husband and I came here tonight for the first time, and I am so glad we did! The shrimp and fish burrito was SO DELICIOUS it has ruined us for anyone else! The atmosphere was cozy, the decor charming and the music romantic. The portions were great, they weren't stingy on the fish and shrimp and the price was reasonable. I look forward to being regular from now on!
First time eating there. Service was great, food was very good. We will definitely return.
I'll have to say we were trying to find his place for some good authentic Mexican breakfast, glad we chose here. Service, food, even the hand carved chairs, top notch!!! New fav!!!
This place is absolutely amazing! I stoped in for a quick bite at lunch and ordered a breakfast burrito and it was absolutely amazing! It was so big I was full for the rest of the day and didn’t even eat dinner that night. The bacon tasted amazing the eggs were fresh and potato’s were soft. I can’t stand when places use French fries in there breakfast burritos and this place does not. As I was sitting there and enjoying the clean nice and authentic ambience I noticed how big all of the portions were on everyone else’s plates. I noticed a lot of people were ordering the different types of soups they had and the owner said that they make quiet a few different kinds. The owner came out and greeted me, asked how everything was and make sure to shake my hand before I left. I felt special, but I noticed he was doing that to everybody can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the food!
The food is great and portions are large, even kids meals. Prices are decent too. Lot of selection of food, a lot of seafood options. Staff is friendly but they don't really wait on you at the table, you have to call them for things. No refills on drinks. Parking is plenty. Restrooms onsite.
Los Charros today on Valley Parkway in the burgeoning EVSP neighborhood. We wanted some delicious Mexican close to home and this Pizza Hut exterior spot fit the bill. Carne asada torta was a whole day’s worth of calories and the carne was tender compared to what we are used to. Wifey had carne quesadilla and loved the guacamole and huge portions. Their table salsa is honestly my favorite in town. Swing by my hood and say hey to Los Charros!
A long time local favorite with an extensive menu covering all the bases from superb calimex to traditional lengua and machaca plates. Quality and portion size is always far above average. Service is fast and efficient with staff willing to handle requests. An excellent salsa bar and rustic wooden decor help to set this place apart in a saturated market.
Stop by this place on a recommendation from my father-in-law. This place is excellent! They have gigantic proportions! Very authentic food! And priced very reasonably! The staff was super super friendly! The bathrooms are very clean! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants authentic Mexican food!
Great Menudo My wife had very spicy Shrimp a la diablo wow hot stuff. But good. Good chips and salsa. Got there late they were good with late.
Food was amazing! My beer wasn't very cold, and I think their air conditioner was broken because it was so hot! Their customer service is always top notch.
The food is amazing! I ate everything on my plate, which is not something I do normally. Only bad thing about this place is it gets so crowded and it is so small! But, I guess the food is that good. Service is alright. Could be better, but it's not something that would make us not go again. We will go again because the food was that good.
Such good food. Great menudo. Seved 7 days a week until 10pm! WOW. Can't find that anywhere. Super long wait, though. I've been here a few times and -- busy or not -- I always wait a pretty long time. It is worth it, though. Definitely will be back. But call ahead to order if you're in a hurry.
Food is great here, but the floor, tables and chairs need to be cleaned after they have been used.
Their Carne Asada and Al Pastor meats are very strongly seasoned with traditional spices, featuring great flavor and just enough nice crispy bits. Their tacos are the large size with ample meat, of which the percentage of gristle is acceptably low. The only salsas are two bottled reds, and one very smoky tasting medium hot red served with the free chips. It's a table service place with nice decor and the service is very good, but when done you have to go to the counter to pay. If Google allowed decimals, I'd give it a 4.3.
Let me just start by saying I almost gave today’s experience 5 stars! The only reason I didn’t is because I think the atmosphere could be a bit better. The place is small and with different seasonal decor, it give the room a more congested feel. I think the traditional Mexican decor is great, that it doesn’t need something else abstracting it. In addition to that, I think the servers could be a bit more personable. In regards to the food - overall it was great! Quite frankly, above and beyond any Mexican food restaurant in town. I order the Camarones a la Diabla. The shrimp were cooked in a well seasoned sauce! The refined beans were very flavorful and the rice was perfectly cooked! Overall, great presentation! The only negative point in the dish was the guacamole which included raw onion. At home we never use raw onion in our guacamole as the onion overpowers the soft and delicate taste of avocados. But overall, great dish! If you’re looking for great tasting Mexican food - go to Los Charros!
Food was good. Hot day, no a/c, so uncomfortable. Wooden chairs very hard, and uncomfortable. Charge for refills of iced-tea. Declined a refill. Will not be returning.
The food is really good, however, the service still sucks. Ever since one of the older servers that had been there for many years left (i assume) the service went downhill. The younger servers don’t care when anybody walks in. On multiple occasions i have experienced and witnessed the same thing happen over and over again. Very slow moving, greeting (well no greeting it appears now), and even with an attitude at times. Oh and tables are left dirty and they expect customers to sit that way. Just last week the owner seemed to be watching how things were and everyone, i mean everyone moved as they should. I came back a few days later and service went back to the same, slow and inattentive. Very disappointed that the place with the most authentic Mexican food in Escondido is being ruined with bad customer service. Hopefully they turn things around.
Great tasting food but a bit pricey. Place is too crowded and small feels kind of claustrophobic in there. TV is also too loud and if due to the loudness I felt limited in the seating availability which made look even smaller. Also, customer service is mediocre at best.
The food is amazing but customer service is so bad. It doesn’t get better. The waitresses are so rude, they are so moody all the time. They don’t smile and it really seems like they don’t want to work. My coworkers and I have been coming here for over 10 years and we just keep coming back because of the food but do not feel welcome every time we come.
I was surprised everything had cheese on it... Even the mole had cheese on it. Large portions, but not flavorful plates of food. Drinks were fairly priced, $8 micheladas. Table service lacked hospitality, nice women, but wasn't asked if we needed or wanted anything in-between our meal except being asked if we were finished. Felt like we were being rushed.
The food was good and you got plenty for your money. The servers never smiled, and once they dropped off my food, they never checked on me until l had put my money on the table to pay. 😒
Nice atmosphere. The place was packed. With mostly Mexicans, which is a good sign haha. I had #13 Chile Verde pork plate. It was was ok. Not bad, not great. I've had much better Verde. The meat was not tender or very flavorful. And even tho they seem to be very popular and busy they will charge you 50 cents for using a credit card card. Which to me, is some cheapskate no class BS. I might go back. Not for #13 tho
Mediocre food. Our shrimp burrito while impressively large was mostly rice with six tiny shrimp inside, the fish tacos were bland, the beans nothing special. On the plus side the rice was slightly above average, the salsa was good and the servers were friendly and efficient. But the woman who took our order at the walk-up window seemed annoyed, mainly at the racket coming out of the kitchen which necessitated her having to tell them to hold it down while we ordered.
Enjoyed the company and service. The steak was a little dry.
Good food, nice atmosphere. Good service, reasonable prices. Warning: they charge full price for a soft drink, and then charge full price for a refill. This is the only sit down restaurant that we have gone to in many years that does not give free refills on soft drinks
This place use to be so friendly and the food was good, I’m very disappointed. Even though we were seated quickly, the waitress were rude and the food mediocre.
I got a torta El pastor everybody seem to like their soup the kids love their fries somebody got a burrito thought it was very tasty my experience on the other hand was not so good are the meat in the pastor was extremely salty the sandwich was a little dry and soggy it was okay but I think they could have done a lot better we ordered a michelada which was really good and I don't really have more to say it was my first time if it was my choice I would not go back thank you for taking the time to read my review 😎
I've been trying a lot of Mexican places recently to find some hidden gems this place was very highly recommended and the reviews that the burritos were great. After calling a carne asada and picking it up I couldn't believe it when I bit into the burrito and came out with a mouthful of overcooked burned meat in an average size burrito. I definitely will not be coming back
Service is like a roller coaster and I don’t understand the reason behind it. When the owners are present, all the servers are on point; attentive like no other, food is fast (within a few mins), and tables are clean. I mean they look like ants making rounds to make sure all tables are taken care of. BUT, when the owners are not present, is like there no servers. Coffee mugs go empty for 20+ minutes, tables are dirty, food takes forever, and customers can be waiting for 30mins or so for their check. I just don’t get it. I really hope the owners see this review and do something about it because the food is great and it is the closest to authentic Mexican food we have here in Escondido. But the service ruins it.
Food has always been good , but unfortunately their customer service is horrible. The waitress and owner are so rude . Today we went on a family birthday outing and we were told to wait to get seated by the bathroom not even 5 minutes later the owner rudely tells us to get out and wait in the hot sun had she told us in a different tone we would’ve gladly waited to get seated but due to her rudeness we decided to leave .
I came to this restaurant today in the afternoon with my family to eat after a long day of work.I just wanted to have some chilaquiles i see all the serversare standing next to the register talking ans texting in their phone mean while are food was getting cold my husband went to ask if the food was ready and they say the food was almost ready 1mint afternoon they came with are food and it was cold I told her I was going to pay for the rolles tacos and sodas and she charge me for the chilaquiles after i specify the way I wanted it and she brought the chilaquiles difrent my husband went to pay and they were charging me for everything. After I told her I didn't want them anymore because they were not the way I asked them after I was waiting for a long time. They were rude and they were cussing at me and I did the same thing thing servers don't understand that they eat because of as customer service you come first. I'm a server too, and I will never give this time of service.
Love this place for years. Shrink flation has hit . The carne asada burritos were so MUCH BETTER in the past . It was super cold. They have decreased in size , overcooked meat . They say they weighed it out but the burrito is mostly tortilla. When the tortilla surrounds the meat inside by 3 layers you know there’s a problem. Very very disappointed the last few times. Also the beef taco is haphazardly thrown together broken shell and very little meat. There is Not a very bright future for this little rundown restaurant. I won’t be going back. Very very sad.
I've been going there for a very long time it's been like 2 years I stop going I gave them one more chance bought a Asada 🌯 it look like a flauta or a roll taco
I want to eat there 1 day there was hair in my food. I asked the waitress and the waitress said. Hey, I didn't serve you. very disrespectful So if there was hair in my food, I can imagine other people. I've been living in twenty three years in escondido I tried it a long, long time ago and I thought they changed and it's still the same
BUGS IN FOOD!! My family member ordered un menudo and a fly was found in it, I also ordered una torta de milanesa the meat was SUPER hard and had almost no taste, AND after we told the manager about our issue she refused to cooperate and just left AND told us we planted the fly!!
This place sucks ! Bring some snow weather jackets because it’s about 30 degrees inside. No heater. Customer Service HORRIBLE. The females that work there seem to be MUCHO stuck up and lazy. I wouldn’t come back simply for the lady that wore to much lip gloss because of how rude her demeanor was towards myself and my friends. Food tasted good though.
Unfortunately I wish I could rate the menudo in this place, but we did not stick around after the rude attitude we received from the hostess. We put our name on the list and waited outside for 45min just to see people that arrived after us be seated before us. After asking the hostess, she gave us heavy attitude response was that she could not sit our party of 10 until the tables in the middle opened up. We waited another 10min and she then seated a family of 6 that had just arrived. I'm not sure the food would be worth putting up with her rudeness and her stares. We will not be returning.
There's no service at all. The oyster tastes bad and one shell is like no meat there but the dry skin.. I had to spit the oyster out right away. I eat oyster often that's the only time I can't eat it. And I tried to return the oyster and let them trash the rest but I still got fully charged the oyster. the cocktail shrimp is no flavor. other food is decent. If you a tourist don't go there, you get your moon ruined by the terrible service and some food.
Customer service wasn’t that great. From what I’ve seen practically none but one host was showing good attitude. Also plants above where u eat? A leaf is dead and if one piece of that falls in isn’t that a hazard???cute concept but gross. Also making people wait outside in the cold AND with bugs. And yes there are bugs Cause one of them was on me.GROSSSSS. Then another one flew at my sister.
The reason I am giving one star is not because of the food. The food is great, however the customer service is in need of a boost. It all stars with the lady who seems to be the owner. She Will never greet you or smile at all.... She seems to always be in a bad mood.... The girls who work either have been told to act like the owner or are afraid of her..
Long wait and also the lady was rude and ended up giving me menudo with only three pieces of skin . Tasted good but was really sad of a meal
Food was good , but customer service was awful. Customer service complained when asked questions . Wouldn’t separate checks and just all around univiting. If I went back it would definitely be for a to go order.
The Menudo pansa was still hard and needed extra cooking. I ordered Three mini tacos from the menu to find out that since I didn’t order the same one they charged me separate price for each one of them. Don’t waste your money you can cook better food at home.
The hostess is rude. We were put down as a family of 10 and she called out our name and decided to make us wait outside with the cockroaches crawling around in the bushes. Kept letting other families in and not setting up our table. she allowed bigger families to pass us 45 minutes waisted we had 3 kids that ran out of snacks. The way she came at everyone was disgusting. It’s this cashier/hostess. I’ll never come back to this place.
The reasoning for the low star review was once we received our check a receipt was not give to us but the waiter came over with a clover card reader and told us the total. My friend paid, but the prices weren’t adding up to the total. My friend had the clover app with our receipt on the app. we got a menu and all the prices of the food and drinks were increased on our bill. I guess if we would have paid in cash it would have been cheaper or because we were looking at an old menu was the excuse of the waitress. There was tiny sign that said prices might change in the front where you would pay for take out order. That should have been mentioned when we were paying. I don’t think it’s right that they don’t print a receipt so you can look at what you ordered. They did refund us 5 dollars and some change. Transparency would have been nice. The up charge was not worth the price of the food. This does not reflect the waitress in any way but I am sure it was what the owner trained these waitresses to hide the fact that there was price increases. It seems slimy for company to sneak in charges from in unsuspecting customers. Food Review- I ordered ceviche which had a good flavor but chewy. My friend order the beef chimichanga. The flavor was good and beans were amazing. My mom and my sister order shrimp fajita. This dish was not served on a steaming plate and was drenched in sauce. They probably could have over looked that if the flavor was good but it was not good.
Food was salty and service worse . Only good thing there was the water and salsa.
I dropped by their location wanting to place an order of 5 rolled tacos to go I picked up one of their menus at the cash register and see $7,95 but they don't put sour cream on them so I tell them to put sour cream on the order. I pull out my debit card and she say that there is a 4% charge for using my debit card and then she says its $2,35 to drizzle sour cream on the rolled tacos. So I get my money back drive 3 blocks down to Taquirea Morelos and get everything i wanted for $7,60 using my debit card. I'm sure they will respond to this review...don't believe a word of what they say. Now in their response to my review they lie claiming I'm a racist. My close base of friends are not caucasian but they aren't liars like you either. 4% charge! good thing I didn't come in with a group of six only to find out your establishment had charged 4% on a $70 purchase. These charges for use of debit/credit cards are regulated by laws. So don't claim things that aren't true.
My parents love this place and I have myself eaten there multiple times but these last few times it has been not the greatest service or food price. I know we have all been affected by inflation but I ordered 2 dishes to go last week and when I was charged I couldn't believe the price! I had eaten there a few weeks before and they had charged the tip before I had even left one. I askedthe server if she had charged the tip and she said the tip is included, and she didn't want to answer if she had already included the tip into the total. I let it slide to avoid any argument. And this last time I got my to go order my receipt wasn't itemized and it was a lot! 50$ for 2 simple dishes. I left no tip. The cashier noticed I kept looking over at the menu prices but I didn't make it into a big deal. I think they purposely add more to the bill so they may claim a tip. Make sure they don't give themselves a tip before they charge you. Some people are very dishonest. If I tip them it will be for a job well done. I will not be returning here again. They need to itemize the bill for transparency.
We went here because of all the amazing reviews, but had a horrible experience. Our waitress was extremely rude and made us feel unwelcome. After we ordered rolled her eyes and proceeded to ignore us the rest of our meal. I had to walk up front for a water refill and to pay because she wouldn’t stop by our table again after dropping off the food, which was subpar. Would not recommend coming here when there are much better places nearby.
The waitress had such a bad attitude when ask for the receipt and then when I notice they where charging a drink when we didn't got it also I ask for a #24 mar y Tierra that was listed for 24.99 and she charge us 27.99 I think is ridicules but the most was the attitude of that waitress super bad
Very bad service in that place. My family and I have been there for many years, but currently they have a terrible service, I don't recommend it.
I went earlier today, and my take: don’t go in there if you’re not a man. I went with my daughter and two little nieces, and we weren’t even handed spoons, forks, syrup for the pancakes and they threw the lime on the table when I asked for it. Whilst the other men there were being asked how they were enjoying their food, gently handed everything and served nicely. Machisto at its finest.
Eat there recently with family. We all got sick. Not going back. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else
Horrible food it was the worst sorry mother to take you here on your birthday 6 diffrent plates nasty too be honest cosina del charro was mistaken by this restaurant *****
