Me and my girlfriend visited Canterbury and found this restaurant and it was amazing. It had a great range of both food and drinks, with the beer selection being incredible. A perfect place for dinner or drinks. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Following a recommendation in the Michelin Guide we visited for a meal on a weekend away. The food was excellent. He had the Foundry burger and I had a mezze starter platter. Both meals were plentiful and delicious. The service was amazing. Erin our waitress was able to recommend food, gins and beer that were brewed by the restaurant. The gin was so good, I ended up buying some to take home! I recommend this lovely, warm find.

My wife and I booked The Foundry Brewpub specifically for the Sunday roast and looking at previous reviews what I hoped would be great beer too. When the phone rang a couple of hours ahead of our booking I thought it was going to be cancelling our reservation, we were surprised to be asked if we wanted roast lamb or roast beef as they were so busy they didn't want us to arrive and be sold out - now that is absolutely AMAZING service. The roast were delicious along the two ales I had to accompany my meal. Great service and atmosphere too. Highly recommended.

Great pub serving both cask and keg beer along with cider and lager. The beer was high quality. The staff were attentive and helpful. The food was fabulous. The steak pie and burger were our choice, very good but huge portions

Really enjoyed the food and service here. We had a beef brisket sandwich and peri peri chicken sandwich - both hit the spot. The chips stayed nice and crunchy even after a while. Onion rings were mid.But the real winner was the cheesy garlic bread... it was so good we had to order it twice. Hands down the best garlic bread I've had so far. Tried their in house lager too, and that was good.

We ordered the local brew and they tasted really great and the food was delicious. The waiter from Wales is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in introducing great drink for our second round — loved it!

Great food, great service, amazing beer. Good vibes at the Foundry! To start with the place looks really nice and the staff is so welcoming. Service was amazing, our waiter explained so much about the beer (they brew their own beer). As well as recommending on best options for food. We went for beer tasting, and i went for the burger with bacon and stilton cheese. It was so freaking good and tasty and beer was very interesting and flavourful. The most special one was the 9.8% Alcohol (Porter, forgot the name). In general a very fun and tasty experience. Highly recommended 🙌

Awesome meal at The Foundry. High quality food, great atmosphere and overall great service. Nice to find a proper, high IBU Westie IPA too. Looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely place to escape the busy centre of Canterbury. Very nice beers and even better fish and chips. Friendly and helpful staff.

Very nice place with a wide selection of locally produced beer. I had bubble and squeak as well as pie with mash which was very tasty. We tried several types of beer, I particularly liked the cider which might be the best one I have ever had!

Canterbury Gold Great beer. The Foundry is table service and the beer is plenty. They serve food and offer brewery tours.

My wife, kids, and I stayed in UK for an entire week for vacation and spent all of our time in London, Brighton, and Canterbury and this was the best meal by far that we had during our time in the UK. Their spirits and beers are brewed and distilled in-house and are all delicious! I highly recommend getting a flight of the infused gins and try a few half pints of their beers. It's all delicious. I personally had the Cajun chicken burger. 10/10 would definitely eat here again given the chance.

Excellent brewpub with a large selection of beers, four on cask the remaining 11 on keg. Great atmosphere and great beer. They also have a large selection of spirits distilled on site. I had the tasting paddle of 5 different beers in one third measures then tried 25ml of their single malt whisky. The Foundry black was my favourite beer and the whisky was delicious. I didn't eat here but the food served at the table next to me looked and smelt good. The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient at their job. I'm very tempted to book myself on a tour next time I come to Canterbury.

A friend recommended this brewpub in Canterbury. It did not disappoint. We appreciated being able to make reservations. Our server was so friendly and kind and gave great recommendations for where we were headed in Margate. The drinks (especially the ciders) and food was so delicious. I had the brisket sandwhich and sweet potato fries and it was one of the best meals I've eaten in a long time. My son took one bite of his burger, groaned and said, "can we come back here?!" Fun, cozy decor, great service and really delicious food!

Very helpful and friendly staff. Laid back vibe. Good menu with lots of options. We went for the brew pub sharing platter and nachos. Both recommended. Lots of food at a reasonable price. Nice ambiance. Totally recommended and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

The Foundry is a very nice pub located in the centre of Canterbury. Lots of seats available, beers brewed by the pub are excellent (I highly recommend the 5 1/3 pint tray), and the food is well presented, well cooked and delicious. Staff is very friendly, we will come back.

Loved it. Great beer. Get a flight of 5. Yummy food and desserts. I had the risotto, an interesting choice with beer, but still delicious.

LOVELY! BRILLIANT! FRIENDLY! Just one block off the main drag of Canterbury, on a much quieter street, is the semi secret oasis from the hordes or tourist crowds, is The Foundry. Walking right in is the louder pub bar area, to the right is a quieter spacious large industrial room with full wait service from the friendly staff. Great local craft beers! £18 FISH & CHIPS! A beautiful chunk of fresh cod in a thick crispy hot batter made with Canterbury Brewers beer...lovely! And about £2 cheaper than average! The chips were tasty and plentiful, and the homemade mushy peas were creamy. Great homemade tartare sauce!

What a lovely place to sit down and taste all the craft beers on offer (15). Food looks and tastes amazing as well. Will be back for sure.

Where Passion Meets Craft This isn’t just another brewery – it’s where genuine passion, knowledge, and experience create something truly special. Exceptional beer, but even better are the captivating stories behind every pint. The brewing process becomes fascinating when explained by people who live and breathe their craft. You’ll find yourself drawn into tales of hop selection, fermentation secrets, and the careful balance that creates liquid poetry. Whether you’re local or just passing through Canterbury, this is an essential stop. The kind of place that transforms casual visitors into passionate advocates, where every sip comes with a story worth sharing.

The atmosphere, service, and food are excellent, and the beef Guinness pie is the best I’ve ever had.

P

Good selection of craft beers . The beer tasting tray is actually worth getting since you get five different beers, that are bigger than in most places ,and for a good price.

C

Local family runned business. My boyfriend said they have one of the best sour beer he ever tried. And price is very friendly. There are so many different types of beer they brewed themselves. And they do their home made rum also. We will definately coming back.

Wonderful food,(some more sauce on the ribs would have been appreciated, however, it’s churlish to complain, given everything else!) and wonderful ‘home-made’ beer! Perhaps there is a god…

Amazing food, service and drinks. This is an incredible brewpub and we can’t wait to go back. Restaurant acoustics were a bit harsh if you’re expecting a quiet dinner but it is a pub to be fair.

Wonderful range of beers and ciders. For those that want to sample a good range, I’d highly recommend the (very reasonably priced) flight of five 1/3rd pints. All are worth considering, although Itzamna is both tasty and deceptively strong - absolutely delicious but do bear in mind it’s 8.4%!

J

Great Brewery/pub for a meal and a drink. They brew their own beer and ciders and they have a great selection to choose from. IPA, porters or lagers, you name it! Amazing Sunday roast too and a super friendly staff!

What an incredible place! We loved our brewery and distillery tour and tasting, John was exceptional - so passionate and knowledgeable and tasting the products (gin and beer) you can tell why they've won so many awards. Highly recommend, absolutely brilliant.

My first visit since they moved location. Came in for lunch on a Friday afternoon (October '19) and its safe to say they won't be on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares anytime soon! The food is lovely, I opted for the Foundry Burger, girlfriend had the pulled pork Nachos. The burger was cooked to perfection and the pulled pork also, plus the portion was huge! Only gripe with the food is that there is no Steak on the menu, but weird, but what is available all looks amazing. If you're in Canterbury and want somewhere good to eat, go here. I'm not a expert but I can't imagine anything served here comes out of a microwave.

My wife and I dropped in here on our first night in Canterbury and were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome on arrival and there was a great selection of beers on offer (I went for the taster tray which turned out to be a great call). Food-wise we both had the Foundry Burger which was delicious. Super service, great food and excellent beers. What’s not to like?

Had a tour of the brewery from the owner John and then stayed for food and drinks afterwards. Really recommend! The pub has a relaxed vibe, felt trendy but not too trendy for an almost 40 year old. Brewery tour was fantastic! John very passionate and interesting. Happy to answer questions. Husband enjoyed tasting the beers that came with the tour and I had a G&T with their Canterbury gin! Excellent! Ate mushrooms on toast. Mushrooms are grown on site using products from the brewing process. Very very tasty! Thoroughly recommend all round!

We discovered The Foundry pub by accident, looking for somewhere to eat and we stayed on purpose! The service is the first thing that strikes you as excellent in this family owned pub; they all wear a smile and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. There is a variety of dishes to choose from, the food is tasty and reasonably priced, but the main attraction is... the beers!!!!! We have never tasted so many different but equally remarkable beers!!! The highlight definitely is the beer called "Itzamna-nitro", with an abv of 9.6%!!!! The tour is definitely a must; the owner, a lovely man who is more than happy to share his vast knowledge on brewing and distilling was an absolute pleasure to listen to. Before the tour we were offered a drink of our choice, all spirits produced on site, and during the tour we tasted more beers! We initially came in Canterbury for the famous Cathedral, but we ended up staying in the pub until dusk enjoying the homely atmosphere, in a friendly place, learning the brewing and distilling traits along the way. The even more amazing part is that we didn't suffer a hangover whatsoever! If you happen to be in the vicinity the Foundry Brew Pub is certainly a place you can unwind and enjoy a nice drink ...or 2...or 3 😊 Cheers!!!

A cool craft brewery in Canterbury with a wide selection of beers and ciders as well as some gin. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere welcoming and an overall good vibe. The food was good and tasty. I enjoy visiting this spot for a flight of beers.

A

A quiet time of day when we arrived, just after noon, however most tables were occupied (in the main bar) by the time we left. A beer flight of 5xthird pints, is a good option, if you want a variety of tastes. You choose the beers from their own brews, which are brewed on site. Good selection of alcohol free and low alcohol drinks are available. Food was really tasty and relativity in expensive.

Happened to this place while wandering around Canterbury and glad we found it. Ordered flights of almost all of the beers and enjoyed most of them. The salt and peppered squid was an amazingly delicious app, but could have used more pepper. Split the bar sampler between the three of us and it was plenty of food to share! The pulled pork was the star of the meal so so good! Great service as well.

I had a cider here, whilst my friends had beer they very much enjoyed. I also bought a bottle of moonshine for a friend's birthday, which the foundry were very good with when an issue needed to be solved. Customer service and general service were very good.

What an absolute gem! Great building. Superb beer. Delicious, proper home cooked food; the burger was lovely and the batter on the fish, heavenly. Utterly delightful staff. Amazing local whiskies. What a find. We'll definitely be back to Canterbury just to visit again. Well done and wishing you continued and well deserved success.

Their beers are low gluten content!!! I braved to try them and have no complaints whatsoever. I also had their burger with a gluten-free bun, and it was quite nice. The patty was huge, too! My friend had Fish and Chips, and she loved it!

Very good location in the Canterbury’s old city centre - a plus, a bit off the crowded main high street. Spacious, lots of choices in terms of beer and food (kind of a pub style). Beers styles approach is a balance between the traditional way and the more modern way of brewing. Brewery visits are possible on an appointment basis. They also have a distillery, but I haven’t tried their products. Definitely, a place to visit if in Canterbury.

Great brew pub, a little away from the hustle and bustle of Canterbury high street. Delicious house made brews. Friendly well informed staff. Really pleasant. If you’re looking for classic traditional British pub atmosphere, look elsewhere. The decor is nice, but it’s the beer that is the main attraction.

N
Neil Collingwood

Great venue, great beer, great service. I didn't stop for food so can't comment on that but the tasters with 5 thirds for £11 are a great way to sample more of the beer. It looks like they have a good selection of gin and other spirits but I didn't get chance to sample any of them. It is disappointing that dogs are not allowed inside but bar staff are happy to serve at the tables outside so not too much of a problem.

J

Ate (and drank!) here on a Wednesday night in February. We booked via the website, but probably didn’t need to. There aren’t that many tables, though, so probably a good idea in busier months. We tried a flight of five beers - what was really nice was that the beer menu was marked up with the beers we selected so we could remember which we’d ordered! All were excellent, the Light Porter being our favourite. On to food. I had ham, egg and chips, my wife had a mushroom wrap and my daughter had Hunter’s Chicken. All very nice, good sized portions. Service was excellent - sadly, didn’t note our waiter’s name (friendly guy with a beard!) but he was attentive, helpful and efficient. All in all, highly recommended.

R

Good music, friendly welcome and help from waitress. Ordered two taster flights of beer (choose five beers 1/3 pint each). Nitro beer at 8.4% is on point. Great afternoon.

Excellent balance of new and old at this micro brewery. Emma, who served us was lovely, attentive and have great recommendations for both food and drinks. My steak and Foundry ale pie was enormous and tasty - proper English home pub grub. My 5 year olds burger, chips and peas was a great size and came with a scoop of ice cream to finish. My partners Mediterranean mezze was only the starter portion, but it was plenty for her as a main. The salt and pepper squid was delicious too. I had the tasting tray of beers and they were all very good. My stand out was the Foundry raspberry wheat beer. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner here on Sunday. A huge thank you to the member of staff who phoned at midday asking if we wanted to pre-order the roast as you were so busy. The food was lovely and we really enjoyed dessert...the sticky toffee pudding does have the edge over the choc brownie though! Wonderful service and nice venue.

I had previously only purchased a bottle of one of their whiskeys but this time had time for food - risotto and the cheese plate, a porter, and a glass of different whiskey. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended.

Very nice brewery/pub. Friendly service! They looked well after us. Food was good, pubfood, not perfect. I bet the brisket hadn’t been smoked for 8 hours. It was tasty though. The beer tasting menu was very nice. Maybe better not served all at once.

This pub has a wonderful selection of local beers which you can try out in a flight. The food was delicious and filling though the usual pub fare. The atmosphere was very 'British' which is what we were looking for today. 4.5 out of 5 when rated against other pubs in the area.

J

A MUST if visiting Canterbury - style, decor, atmosphere, staff ALL great. We ate and drank here and we were not disappointed. I had the Foundry pie and hubbie had the fish and chips, we shared the frozen lemon and gin cheesecake with raspberry sorbet - great quality and good value. We washed it down with 2 beer selections = 5 x one third pint glasses of ales, cider, and lager mix; staff explained the selection.

I found the steak and ale pie to be really good honest pub fare. The beer selection was really good and I would recommend this as a good value place to have dinner without hesitation if you like pub food and a decent atmosphere.

Lovely pub/restaurant tucked just off the High Street in historic Canterbury. I've scored the food a five as it was good value, plenty of choice and made with care. The sharing platters had plenty for two people and were tasty with good choices. My favourate though was the loaded Nachos, loads of cheese, and topping. Service was a little slow, and we had to go to the bar a couple of times to get attention. Overall the food was good and well priced, drinks good and the atmosphere nice. We'll done The Foundry.

A cool place and bound to be popular with students (if they can afford it). Very slightly off the beaten track but plenty of signage to help you find it. The beer I tried (their saison) was very nice but a tad on the cool side. My main gripe though was that you have to be shown to a table. I like to walk into a pub, go to the bar, get a drink and find a table or just stand up. This all seemed a bit "continental" but continental brought on by a pandemic. Didn't have a meal. The service was very good; all very young. Second visit: much the same. I still don't much like having to be shown to a table and given table service in a pub. Friendly, helpful staff, pricey.

Waiting staff were good. Drinks made in the brewery were very nice and would be back to try those again. Sharing nachos decent portion. I was told squid and veggie meze were nice as well. Mains the hunters chicken was nice and the brisket main was good. However I had the brisket in a wrap and this wasn't great. Brisket had dried out, caramelised onions were way too sweet and there was virtually no cheese. Was the only dish that really wasn't worth the price paid the rest were decent.

L

We just went to try the beers on our day trip to Canterbury, 5 1/3 pints to taste from their Brewery for a bit more than £10 that we thought was good. Although most of them were very flat with exception of the stout. Friendly staff and nice vibe overall from the place.

M
Marie-Louise Lange

Perfect for drinks, not so good for food! Gin and ale were the main reasons for us to go there. My husband tried the beer tray with five different kinds which was great. I had two gin and tonic and both were very good. The atmosphere of the pub is nice, I really liked the interior design. The staff was very friendly. So far it would have been five stars if there hadn't been the food. We were four persons, three of us ordered the burger and asked for it medium. When we got the burgers they weren't only not medium, not even just dry, they were totally burnt and black. The staff was again friendly and took them back, promising us new ones. Unfortunately our friend without the burger had to eat alone now, to avoid his food getting cold. We received some free drinks as compensation and after a while new burgers that were still really, really, really dry but at least not black anymore. The taste was alright but I wouldn't ever recommend the burger. If roasting them medium isn't possible because of any reasons than please just tell the costumer. At least I would appreciate that and order something else! We would definitively come back for the drinks. So, if you ever look for a nice place with great gin and ales: that's the right place!

We was touring around Canterbury and saw this pub from the outside..it looked so old and lovely so we went online and booked a table for the evening. The menu looked lovely......but.....we arrived to be put in a cold area where children were running very loudly up and down a ramp when their parents were in the nice cosy section!!!! The ribs came which were 75% fat and gristle. Overall it really was an expensive disappointment to our trip.

This 'Brewpub' has obviously sold out to Beefeater. 'Please wait here to be seated, even if you're only having a drink' the sign politely asked. Er no, I'm not waiting to be seated to have a pint, do I have to put my hand up if I want wee-weeies too???

I was very much looking forward to visiting as i was visiting canterbury for the first time. I like a real ale and visit various brewers but got to the door and no dogs. Could have sat outside but pissing down with rain and cold had to move on. You can even take dogs in the cathedral. Upset in these days that alot of places still not take dogs, thanks for reply but many distilleries accept dogs. Your reply was just a excuse you dont want dogs.

On the face of it this establishment offered everything my wife and I wanted (and needed). Good food n ale/wine in a nice British pub/brewery. However we have a dog (well socialised, obedient and toilet trained!). Therefore we’d be forced into sitting outside, like leppers. On a late September afternoon, without full artic clothing it isn’t going to happen. Having travelled to every corner of this country and a large chunk of Europe, with the hound, the places that have such a small minded exclusion is tiny. We’d have spent in the region of £60+ in the Foundry. As a keen supporter of our heritage in the humble pint and our nation’s pubs I was very disappointed.

Very cozy place and good environment but unfortunately there was almost no food available when we got there, the server explained the situation but missing items its definitely a error by any restaurant or pub. We will never have another chance to try out this place.
