Two Cousins Fish Market Freeport Reviews
I never had a problem with this place. Seafood is always good here. Tight place that gets overcrowded the longer you look in there. So make sure you know what you want when you get there. The guys in the back cleaning and fillet it, are the best. Tip them $20 they will remember you
This market has the largest selection of reported wild caught fish and seafood I've every seen. I enjoy their homemade seafood salads and are sure to buy enough to last a few days. Great market.
Remarkable selection of whole fresh fish
Got loin of cod abd flounder for lenten meal. As usual, fish was delicious. I baked cod with butter, herbed panko bread crumbs, and garlic. Flounder was dipped in fish fry flour and deep fried to crispy. Love shopping here, thanks, Kevin, Brian, and Danny.
Been around fishes all my life and two cousins hands down is one of the best there is - they carry a good selection of fishes and if there is a certain type you like you can ask the owners and they’ll try to get you what you need.
The men that work here are always really helpful, especially the guys that clean the fish. They always have a good selection of fish. They are a bit pricey but it’s worth it.
I've been going to Two Cousins Fish Market since I was a kid. Fantastic fish market. If they don't have what you want they will get it for you. Always fresh seafood! Great family owned market.
Prasanna 1 Remya 1 Good Service
The best place for fresh fish, seafood and seasonings! Sunday is the best time to shop as the fish arrives there in the early morning fresh off the boat!! And they clean it for you too!!!
Always a wonderful experience when shopping here for fish. You get the best deal on food here on Nautica Mile. Not too pricey and the establishment is always clean. Plus your fishes are always clean😁😁
Love this place…. Fish is fresh….Staff is personable and I get my fish cleaned and prepared just how I like it… big tips are in order$$$
Excellent fish market. They have good quality stuff and if you want them to clean your fish before you leave they have a place where they clean everything for free, but please make sure you tip them well they're working hard back there.
The female crabs 🦀 I bought from here they are very good nice and heavy I wish they had more than what I bought but next time I visit family in New York I putting in an order for 3 dozens keep up the great job with the seafood you sell👍
This is a great fish market. Not fancy, but really high quality product. It's right on the water, with slips in the back of the store. They have a wholesale business as well as retail so the turnover is high. The tuna prices are fantastic given the quality. Same with the swordfish(both caught extensively off Long Island) There's usually a giant chunk of tuna on the bench they are cutting up!
I went in for the 3 pounds of crab leg special $45.00. Dinner tonight, and can not wait. Mr. Ruben helped me get the best price possible by washing all the ice off my crab. He was very friendly as was everyone there, including the customers. I was just leaving as the early morning fisherman arrived with the fresh catch of the day. The store looked very clean and easily accessible. I watched a few of the live blue crabs fight and claw each other, that was entertaining to me. 😂 I had a taste of the lobster salad it was very delicious, had chunks of celery in it which I like. Definitely a must visit when on the nautical mile in Freeport
Went yesterday for the first time and had an AMAZING experience! After searching for fish for 2 weeks, someone told me about this place. Large selection of fresh seafood at a great price. The staff was amazing and super friendly even the customers! Oh and they had GREAT music playing while I was waiting to get my fish cleaned!!!!
I absolutely love them. My family been going here since I was in Diapers. I go every month for brown crabs, clams, and Cocktail sauce. The lobster bisque soup is so good. I add clams in mine. Very friend staff. Very fresh seafood.
I really wish I asked the young man who took care of us his name. He is so nice. He took great care of my sister and I. I would go here again and again. The fish is fresh and they had a sale or two, also.
If you’re not from Long Island and you’re looking to buy seafood straight from the catch of the boat, this is the place. The price may be a little bit more. However, the quality is superior anywhere else you go.
My personal go to place when it comes to getting fresh seafood. They have live stuff if you want to really make sure it's fresh. Scaling service in the back takes cash but well worth it so you don't have a mess at home.
The fish is very fresh and so delicious, this is the best place to get a tasty fish
I come here forever. Many years. The fish is fresh and well labeled so you know where it came from, if it is fresh or farm raised. If you need a plate of fresh steamed shrimps, Kevin makes sure it is fresh and ready When you come to pick them up. I know Kevin has many customers but he ALWAYS remembers my name so you don't feel like a stranger and that I appreciate Thanks Kevin Christa
Without a doubt this is the best fish market in Nassau County. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and they have reasonable prices for incredibly fresh fish. Worth the trip if you are not local.
This place is the best!! You go early when it's quiet and you can take your time. The lobsters are great! The fish...so fresh. Everyone is always friendly. It's a sight for the kids. When you want to impress your friends with an awesome dinner...I recommend the red snapper.
Order my Xmas order today, been my fish purveyor for the feast for 3 years. My family has been going here for decades, buying from Kevin. And the service is amazing!
Friendly staff and knowledgeable. It's an actual fisherman's shop not some random person who bought a place and staged it with people who only know how to clean but know nothing about the product. Also great variety and fish is fresh and didn't seem to be sitting there for days.
Outstanding fish, so fresh. I usually go in for the $10 per pound special.got tuna and swordfish steaks for easter. Great. This is a fish lovers paradise. Some I had no idea what they were. When I went with my brother a while back, his mouth was hanging open-he could not believe the variety. I've had their lobster roll, divine and their crab cakes, very authentic. If you are in the Freeport area you won't want to miss this.
Great service Great fish, I went first thing in the morning and bought a bunch of sone of the freshest whites I've ever tasted!! Check them out
Great selection of freshest fish in South Shore Long Island.
Great customer service and will definitely go back next time I need seafood for a dish.
Very fresh fishes and live lobsters and crabs reasonable price
Best believe I drive all the way from Manhattan to purchase fish here! Fish is very fresh, wide variety and reasonable price for the quality. My typical haul includes yellow-tailed and red snapper, salmon, sea bass and when I'm up to a seafood boil - live crabs in season and some clams. Staff is generally helpful too. Highly recommend.
Great always fresh, reasonably priced, friendly, have come here for years!
My favorite, affordable fish market. Huge variety of seafood. You can't go wrong on the prices, those local supermarket fish stands can't compare to Two Cousins.
The fish are ALWAYS fresh & the staff are always informative. They have an amazing & professional team that helps clean the fish for you as well! Overall a wonderful business if you're looking for quality fresh fish!
💯 Fresh fish, wide variety. Cleaned on site and cut to your preference . Friendly staff to assist. I always enjoy the spectacular scenery while I wait. Nature at it's best.
Let me start by saying the seafood here is the freshest. I bought 3 lobsters about 2 pounds each. They were the best! So much sweet meat even in those little side claws. Delicious!! My daughter stuffed them in a breadcrumb shrimp stuffing and put them on the BBQ. Drawn butter and a squirt of lemon....Heaven!!
We’ve been coming here for years! Driving from Queens because the fish is wild, fresh, there’s variety and they clean it for free!
Customer service here is always amazing. The fish is always fresh and high quality. The prices are always good and we love that all the fish are well labeled. They are always available to answer any questions.
Fresh fish sold here is better than fish in local fish markets. The prices are good. This is a go to for whole fresh wild caught salmon. They have a wide variety of fish plus they sell vegetables and condiments.Great scenic location. The staff is great entirely and those Hispanic guys that clean the fish are the best courteous and vibrant.
We were visiting Freeport last week and took our daughter in to see a real fish market (we don’t have them where we live). The owner offered to give her a tour, even though we said we weren’t buying anything. Such a fun experience for her. Their fish all looked amazing! The staff was so friendly. I wish we had been staying at place with a kitchen so we could have purchased some fish from them.
Great experience. They really help me out since my rollator could not go every where. The cleaning of the fish could have been better but still quite helpful. I recommend this fish market to all of my friends.
Great place for fresh seafood at a good price.
If you want fresh fish from the water, this is the best place for it, whatever you looking for, this is your spot, and a nice place to check out restaurants.
I go to these guys at least once a week freshest most tastiest best priced Fish on Long Island.
Wanted schucked oysters day before Christmas, supermarkets didn't have them. Two Cousins had them at a reasonable price...the service was excellent and they have an extensive selection of seafood and shellfish. . I would recommend Two Cousins highly.
I’m a frequent patron of this fish market. Best place to get fresh seafood at a very good price. Kevin & Danny are always pleasant, friendly and helpful with my needs. I wouldn’t go anywhere else but Two Cousins Fish Market.
If you want fresh fish or lobster, this is the place to come. Great prices on the freshest fish and seafood. Right in the heart of Freeport.
Always well stocked with fresh fish. Staff is very courteous.
Always has fresh fish and a variety of options !! Clam chowder soup that’s in-house is awesome too !!
Great fish and service. Come here every Christmas and it never disappoints
Very friendly and helpful person always fresh seafood even their cooked food. Extremely knowledgeable and wide variety of seafood. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking for seafood of any kind. Enjoy your seafood journey and definitely don’t forget to order whole Lobsters and crabs.
Best fish market around. I've been coming here forever and always stock up when I'm in town. Best customer service, and they have everything you could want at great prices. Do agree with the other comments about the cleaning guys around back complaining about not tipping. I rarely have cash on me, so when i do, i overtip, but after spending $122, you would think they would pay their employees better so they don't have to beg for tips. I descale and filet them myself at home now, but this is still the best place to come.
Fresh catch! Fish looks really fresh. We got sea bass and pompano. They have nice collection of fish. Fish cleaning is behind the shop. Not too many parking in front of the shop. We got parking on the streets near by! The person at the counter is really nice and caring! Would love to visit again!
This place is a gem of Freeport. They have a great selection of fresh seafood to choose from. We buy our seafood from here all the time, they are a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. They also clean and cut the fish for you in the back of the store. If your in the area or in need of some fresh fish, stop by and check them out.
They have just about every type of fish you would want. I shopped during the holidays so the store was extremely busy, never did get the red snapper fillet I was promised
Live flatfish was really good, last week. They cut the sashimi for us.. If you want to buy the live fish go there but call them first...
Best selection of seafood in freeport. Everything is always fresh and their prices are reasonable. Im from new England and i am very bias about my fish, but Two Cousins help lay that to rest because they also catch and sell fish from fresh waters. I love this place, my son and I have been going here for the last 18 years.
Fresh, fresh, fresh and they clean the fish really great!
Great selection and quality of raw fish and seafood. I personally come here for the clams and have never been disappointed. They also can open/shuck your clams & oysters in the back. Don't forget to tip!
Good customer service, my only problem is the guys around the back that cleans the fish. If you do not tip them, they get so rude. I do tip, but if I forget every now and then, I don't see why there's a problem.
This place continues to have a great variety of fish and seafood. Highly recommended if the people adjacent to the fish market don't have to clean them for you. There is a guy who does the cleaning who is extremely RUDE! he only wants to clean certain things, no oysters, no clams, or scallops. So, just for that reason, I may not go back for these mollusks there. Go elsewhere. If those people are not part of Two Cousins, and are independent, they are scaring people away from the fish market. Also, bring cash or pay more if using a credit card.
I just moved here from Brooklyn, and have suffered losing my favorite fishmonger to distance. I was excited to find such a highly rated market. Most of the fish appeared fresh, although some of the whole fish had eyes that were starting to cloud and sink (mostly unavoidable when shipping fish in from other states and countries). It's small and crowded but that means high fish turnover which is great. No strong odors and live crabs were actively being sorted through for any sluggish/dead first thing in the morning. The real ding for me is that the service is lacking in warmth. No one smiled, said hello, thank you, you're welcome, how are you, how can I help you? Just "next" "pay there" "$50" end of transaction. It wasn't busy enough to warrant that, and it echoes some of the other complaints here. With supermarkets everywhere and folks not travelling to fishmongers and butchers, a little bit of niceties goes a long way in retaining and gaining customers. Perhaps it was an off day for them, or they just don't care and the fish is fresh and that's that.
I always love coming here. They provide great customer service, they aren't falsely cheerful, but treat you with a quiet respect, which is aces in my book. The seafood is fresh and affordable with a variety of almost anything you would need to enhance your seafood dishes. Go visit them and enjoy a cup of their clam chowder.
Great deals on wild shrimp and clams. some of my flounder filets were a little smelly. Great service.
Great customer service HOWEVER the guys who scale the fish need to do better. AND they have the nerve to stand there and wait for customers to tip them...
Great place to purchase fresh seafood! Reasonable prices! The reason i gave a four The guys that cleans the fish scales never do a good job but always wants a tip!
The selection of fish is decent, but the overall cleanliness and customer service leave much to be desired. The area where you wait for your fish to be cleaned is particularly unpleasant—strong odors and lack of hygiene make the experience uncomfortable. Definitely room for improvement in both cleanliness and service standards.
My new favorite fish market. I heard about this place from one of my friends and I’m happy that I decided to pop in. The place is small but gets the job done . The fish was very fresh and a decent price . They have a shipment everyday and a nice selection to choose from. There’s plenty of street parking and a little parking lot for customers in front . There is option to buy a whole fish or buy pieces ... Cleaning of the whole fish and cutting is free with purchase .
The fish was very fresh I brought salmon, red snapper, and my mom got shrimp. The service was fast and there was lot of fish to choose from, along with other seafood. They offer cleaning of the fish in the back of the store which was very convenient. We made the salmon this evening and it was delicious. I took one star away because staff was not very friendly or welcoming which I'm very big on. If I don't feel like you value my patronage it doesn't make me want to go back.
I heard great things about the spot and went to check it out. They provided good service. Fish was fresh. It's a small location and not a big variety to choose from.
Excellent selection but not all the fish were label. No help on the floor. And the worker who cleaned my fish did not do as I asked. I also find it disrespectful for them to speak in a foreign language and laugh as we customers interact with them.
-Fish is very good though should select carefully. -Little pricey. -Place smells bad they should consider cleaning the place more often and proper way to dispose the water on the floor.
Not happy with the clans. They were old and some were open.
Too pricey and fish cleaning staff are sneaky… I don’t trust this place like before
Beautiful selection and friendly employees! The cashier is a different story however! Always mad when you don't pay CASH! and throws your debit card on the table! If that's the case do not accept cards! I always want to buy more than I planned because of the amazing selections! SORRY BUT NOT SORRY !!
I'm rating it three stars, not because anything went wrong, but as I didn't spend more than a few minutes there. However it was quite clean organized, not what one may be thinking when referring to a fish market, the selection of seafood and other products was rather nice. I'll be visiting again soon and will update this initial review.
For a $10+ "tip" they will cut & clean your freshly caught fish. Good service.
I’ve been here before for lobsters, fish, and crabs. Never had problem it was always good and on point until this Saturday when me and wife were in the mood for crabs. I ended rip getting a dozen blue crabs. I was excited to get home and boiled them so I thought something was funny because usually the crabs are feisty and it’s not that easy to get into boiling water but these crabs did not. Put too much of a fight it seem like some almost near death and it also smelled I tried to eat them but could not I just put them back in the bowl. I was thinking of calling them. But I’m thinking that I might want a comp or something
Today I bought a half bushel of crabs, about 1 dozen had to be thrown out and it smelled really bad. This is the first time I have had a bad experience here. Very disappointing and when you pay $90.00 for half of bushel you can understand why.
First off i want say I love getting my seafood at two cousins. Consistently fresh fish, shrimp, everything inside the store is great. Danny is always friendly, very personable, and very knowledgeable. I've been going for over 10 years. Thats my go to spot. I went in there Monday, April 21st. I bought a whole salmon and 2 pounds of shrimp. I spent over 150 dollars. I went to the back to get my fish fileted and cut into pieces. What is the matter with this guy Julio?! He didn't cut the pieces great and he took the skin off. It may sound like not a big deal but to people who really love fish that skin is the best part. I didn't notice until the store was closed because if I had noticed I would've drove the 30 min it takes me to get there, to complain. This guy Julio is very dry and very rude. I even spoke to him in Spanish to make him feel comfortable because I know his English isn't the best. He was still very dry and gives you this look like your very presence bothers him. I am very upset that I come in to this establishment and spent a good amount of money and this guy Julio treats you with the disdain that he does! I've spoken to a few customers and they all say the same thing about this guy Julio! He is a problem. I could go to my local stop and shop and get my salmon from them. Its 5 min away. It's decent salmon. But I don't, I go out of my way, I drive 30 min to freeport because two cousins has the best fish. This was very off putting, the experience I had yesterday with this guy Julio! I have 14 cuts of salmon that I want to throw in the garbage. Highly upsetting. It is like going to a restaurant and asking for your steak medium rare and they bring it out well done. You just don't want to eat it. It ruins the whole steak. It's still a steak, but it's not what you paid for. I feel sleighted!!
It pains me to write this review as I’ve frequently used this location as my fish monger for many years. I was there last week to purchase some Pompano. In the store I was assisted by a nice, patient and helpful teenage kid. He went above and beyond to get me extra fish from the thawing water bed and helped to bring my fish to the front for payment and the back for cleaning. The cleaning crew per usual were efficient and polite. The issue that leads to my dismay was my interaction with whom I presume is the owner/manager. I say this because he’s the consistent person I’ve interacted with for over 15 years- a big guy with white hair who always sits at the register. I’m not sure if he was having a bad day, however he was particularly grumpy and unreasonable when I came back into the store after having my fish cleaned to buy a little bit of ice on the top of my bag so I could put my $150 worth of Pompano (we were gearing up for a large party) in my cooler. He said the 7/11 is down the street and asked the young teenager to just put a little bit in my bag. Here’s where he went wrong in my opinion. I walked back into the store, totally willing to purchase ice. He never asked, but assumed that I was asking for a free ice, didnt even look at me, caught an attitude, and suggested that I go to 7/11. Maybe he was having a bad day- as I heard that earlier that day two patrons refused to let the gentleman in the back clean their fish because as they put it, the women didn’t want anyone black or Latino touching their fish. This is all so unfortunate that we’re living in a time where people can’t just be kind to one another. This is not what America stands for!! Point noted to the proprietor of this business— I will not frequent your store anymore and going forward I will just go to CF Clark in Franklin Square on Franklin Avenue the wholesaler who has been providing some really fresh cuts (albeit flash frozen) without the attitude. This is sad because I intentionally travel all the way from Queens to freeport to get our Pompano. Peace be with you two cousins. I hope you read this with the purpose intended and self-reflect on how your actions can have a negative impact on your patronage.
I called them if I could placed my order through the phone with the new social distancing guidelines and they keep telling me that you should just come in. It’s a tiny place and people could get sick from going in and out especially waiting 30 mins 2 feet apart to get the fish cleaned. They have good fish and I wish they would be mindful of taking orders over the phone to keep people and themselves safe.
this place used to be great. it's now gone down hill with frozen fish, high prices, and terrible customer service. i watched the staff today tell me they were closed at 5:58, for two dozen clams when the hours said they were open untill 6. too bad the super markets are putting places like two cousins out of business. there is truly no difference between two cousins and the super markets - except the super markets have better prices and better fish mongerers.
I was not too pleased the last time I went to this fish market. I spent a small fortune on a whole salmon and asked the butcher to cut it in filets. He literally took the bones out and gave me two halfs of the salmon. I did not realize this until I came all the way home. I was so upset because I left a huge tip also. I feel like he gave no care to my order at all. How do you cut an entire salmon in two halves? That was pure laziness, and the fish is not cheap to be treated like that. I'm not sure if I'll go back because of this.
Normally, I'd give 5 bc my experience is always pleasant. Today, however, not so much. I didn't have cash and there's no indication that you can tip from your credit card. As I'm retrieving my fish, the men says "thanks for the tip". The absolute audacity especially when my husband is a frequent shopper and leaves bt $10&20$. There's no way any of them should feel that empowered to treat customers that way. The issue isn't with the customers, it's with management. I spoke with the guy in the front of the store and let him know and he informed me that this isn't the first time they've done this. Then, he offered to take the cash off of my credit card but after their remarks ? They cost themselves a tip. It's so offensive and humiliating.
The guys who does the cleaning of the fish has the worse attitude , waited on line for over ten minutes too drop off the fish too be cleaned was totally ignored . Will never return u guys need too do better than this . I am a loyal customer how can u be so unprofessional especially when u have a sign up saying too tip at the cleaning station
I called to ask the price of fresh calamari and he hung up on me. I called back and he said “you just called me”. I said “yea I asked the price and you hung up on me”. He said (with an attitude) “it’s 5.99/lb”. VERY RUDE.
I’ve been going to Two Cousins for years since Fiore Brothers closed after Sandy. All was well then all of a sudden they wouldn’t let anyone wait in the fish cleaning area. I used to spend on average $100. A visit. My last visit I bought 2 Lbs of jumbo shrimp for 25 dollars and after cleaning I was sure the package was “Lite” (missing product) I let it go being I was in a hurry. This Friday July 5th again I bought 2 Lbs jumbo shrimp and took them to the cleaning station I sat in the car / my wife came with the cleaned shrimp and immediately I knew I was robbed ! I told her to go back in the “front to have it put on the scale again” on the way in one of the workers said what is wrong? She explained and handed him the bag he said you’re write this is not 2 Lbs. then the “big guy” white hair / mustache who sits behind the register says lets weigh it. From 2.04 Lbs it weighed 1.6 Lbs almost 1/2 lbs “disappeared into thin air” he then tells her the most bogus story about how cleaning them the “heads, poop, and shells” is why almost half a pound was missing. I went back into the Fish market myself and he tried the same bogus excuse on me , except I’m a fishing fanatic and am good at sizing up weight. I put the cleaned shrimp on the scale and told him “these are shrimp tails, no heads and that shells are paper thin weighing nothing” if anyone has ever cleaned shrimp, I have and use the shells to make stock they are almost weightless ! So I told him at this rate your employees go home with pounds of everyone elses products. I made it clear I was disappointed, furious and would find another vendor. Don’t get robbed, either stand In the cleaning area or just go to another vendor. His seafood is just as fresh as any other vendor. It is NOT Brought in by boat “fresh daily” is bogus I know I live in Freeport . Sincerely disappointed and robbed, Fishbonz !!!
Please run from the guys who work in the back. Count your fish before taking it to be scaled. I made a purchase last week, and when I got home, I realized I had less than what I purchased. I went back the next day and told the guys I have a specific quantity, and when I come back after waiting for 10 minutes, that's what I expect to receive. I was told not to come back. Count your item before and after. Do not buy fish from the back area as they steal from customers and resell. The young man was requesting that I tip him know he stole my fishes and planned on selling it. Try another location on the strip.
Bought and paid for 5 lbs of shrimp 2 days ago to be cleaned for picked up on on CHRISTMAS EVE. The shrimp was like I bought it at BBJ’S not fresh color was white not gray. It was unbeatable. I should have never taken delivery of this shrimp. I will not shop there again
I have made a mistake when i went to this store and didn't bring cash and there's no indication that you can tip from your credit card. As I'm retrieving my fish, the men says "thanks for the tip". The nerve of these guys to embarrass a customer who also promotes their products and services to potential customers. There's no way any reputable establishment should treat customers that way. I went home to get cash and went back to give them the tip and go about my day. They cost themselves a loyal customer. It's so offensive and humiliating. I spent money to buy fish and it’s very pricey, and get treated that way? Make sure to bring cash before you go here.
I went to two cousins fish market expecting fresh seafood and honest service, but I was very disappointed. I bought a whole fish and asked them to clean and cut it for me. When I got home, I realized that several pieces were missing — they had clearly taken portions of the fish after cutting it. This is completely unacceptable and dishonest. Customers should be able to trust that they’re getting what they pay for. Instead, I felt cheated and disrespected. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend checking your order carefully if you decide to shop here. There are plenty of other markets that treat their customers with honesty and integrity — unfortunately, this one does not.
Fish is contained with full of Ammonia .Do not buy from there. When i was washing the fish, the smell was like Clorox bleach and it is harmful for the health.
