Cogs Restaurant Friargate Reviews
Had an amazing lunch here today. The portions are huge and super tasty. Had the Peeping Tom chicken burger. Roberta, our waitress, was super friendly and helpful.
We were checked in early by Telma and our table for our afternoon tea was ready by 12 Our afternoon tea was delicious, especially the savoury sides for me. Pedro was our server and he was friendly and attentive, I would recommend both staying and eating here
Had a very pleasant evening with my wife here Food was fantastic Aswell as the service . The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have had. Recommend, I'm sure this will get very busy in the future once the area becomes more established.
First visit here and very impressed. Afternoon tea was lovely and service was top drawer. Really nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. Great job guys 👌
Fabulous . Delicious food. Excellent service. Highly recommend Sunday Lunch ❤️ NB : If you park in the New station car park , the fee is wavered at the restaurant before you leave !
I think I found another favourite dinner spot in Coventry. A part of the new Indigo Hotel, the Cogs Restaurant was a great experience. Absolutely lovely atmosphere, ambience, amazing smell all around, felt so fresh! Food was reasonably priced and tasty, very much enjoyed the wine. I always like a nice glass to come with my wine, somehow makes me enjoy it more! And this one definitely wins compared to other establishments ;) Amazing service from Justina - very polite and visited the table on multiple occasions so we were taken care of. Really enjoyed and will be back for more.
Sunday lunch for two. Quickly seated and time to look around . . . it's still new and the newness is enhanced with the cleanliness (no mean feat in a city centre) and layout. Service began well and continued well, observant and quick when something needed otherwise unobtrusive and non of that current fashion for in your face performing! Questions about the Sunday lunch options were answered well and I settled for the classic Sunday roast with rare lamb. My son had a brain fart and despite the more exotic options plumped for battered fish, chips and mushy peas! Our, generous, starters were vegan beetroot falafel and giant prawns in puff batter . . . these proved almost a meal in themselves and I'm pleased I tried the falafels as they were exquisite served hot with a bowl of tomato relish. Son reported the prawns good despite his faux pas of fish followed by fish and his failure to give me a couple to try! The main courses continued with this success only a minor minus and a whole range of pluses! The key to an excellent meal lies in the vegetables, the roast parsnip and carrot and the steamed mixed veg were exactly right, cooked and served with perfect texture, the batter pudding and the stuffing ball were as they should be, the lamb was tender, pink and plentiful. A jug of meat juice gravy accompanied. The battered fish was, well, fishy, the peas appeared home soaked, seasoned and cooked, the chips large and looking inviting . . . . The star here was the bowl of tartar sauce again appearing home produced and an excellent accompaniment. The trivial minus? With both our meals the choice of potato strain was inappropriate for each of the chunky chips with his fish and the roasties with my lamb. Both applications require a potato variety that delivers a more 'floury' interior with a crisp outer skin. Portions were generous and service flawless. Having only cracks and crevices to fill we opted for sorbets for the sweet . . . they were deliciously fruity. All in all an excellent 9.6 out of 10. Good for a new hotel restaurant that is still largely in the process of shaking down.
Fantastic experience all round. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Seb was exceptional, very polite and kind. The speed of service was impressive for a weekend night and the food was simply exceptional. Well presented and cooked to perfection
Indigo Hotel Bar exceeded all expectations! The cocktails were expertly crafted, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. But the real stars of the day was Fabio and Alfie—two young, passionate bartenders whose skill and energy made the experience unforgettable. Their custom drink recommendation was one of the best I’ve ever had. Exceptional service, top-tier drinks, and a great atmosphere—this place is a must-visit!
"The food was absolutely lovely, with fresh ingredients and great flavors. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect dining experience. A special shoutout to Pedro, who went above and beyond with his friendly and attentive service. Highly recommended!"
Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch, perfectly cooked and served with a smile! Would recommend to anyone. Our server, Priya was fab and couldn't have done more for us.
Pleasantly suprsied with how nice the resturant was. Service with a smile (Justina), live music and quality food! I think I'll be coming back.
Visited mid-March 24 with a group of 10 for my wife's birthday. A modern, cosy and relaxed atmosphere, had drinks in nice bar area first whilst waiting for everyone to arrive, our table was a good size, everyone had plenty of room, good service, a wide selection on the menu, everyone really enjoyed their food, from the tasters and starters, mains, to the desserts. They even brought out a treat for the 'Birthday girl'. We all had a fantastic time and will be back soon.
Very good afternoon tea for my 40th birthday Staff very good good vibes will come again ❤️
Have eaten here twice now once for a Sunday lunch and once for an afternoon tea. The food was amazing both times. Afternoon tea was great value for money with delicious cakes. Nice restaurant and decor, will be returning
Excellent service with a smile from Pedro. We loved the Sizzler plates - what a great spot
Brilliant service! Amazing food! Thank you pedro
Amazing service , fantastic staff great food. Me and my husband visited for afternoon tea. Unfortunately an email we sent a few weeks ago informing them of my allergy to salmon had gone unread, upon arrival I informed the wait staff who apologised and informed the kitchen who made our food again. Thank you all for being so accommodating. We understand sometimes things slip through the net. When in the area again we will definitely be visiting again.
Great food and Priya was such an incredible waitress, made me feel very welcome. Will definitely come again ))
I’m staying at hotel indigo this night and stopped by the restaurant for some food and drinks and I’m speechless! I live in dubai and I never seen a manager so focus and working so hard as the one at cogs! I believe his name is Pedro! The two girls working in the restaurant were excellent as well!! Made my stay more valuable! Congratulations Cogs !
Second visit to Cogs for the 3 course Sunday lunch using Groupon offer (which is fantastic value) and won’t be last. Food, staff and atmosphere are all fantastic. Special mention to Pedro who is friendly and efficient both on the bar and in the restaurant (Hope your baby girl arrives safely soon).
Went here for afternoon tea 7th June for friends birthday. Absolutely the best afternoon tea I have had. Staff so attentive and the selection was perfect. Went again on 8th June for Sunday lunch with my husband. Cannot fault the quality of the food. Staff are so attentive and. Atmosphere is just perfect. Been coming here for a few months for coffee. Definitely the place to be. Keep it up Coggs
Great experience ! The burgers, drinks and deserts were all very nice. The restaurant decoration in very pleasant and modern. We had fantastic service from Mr George that came to our table several times to provide a top class support and service. Keep it up!
Came here for a family meal on a Sunday, and cannot fault the service. Very attentive, not a long wait for food and staff were very friendly. Roast dinner was very nice, and not pricey at all, very good value for money. Would visit again.
Great Lunch - Excellent fish finger sandwich - stuffed with fish and so crispy . Chips hot and cooked perfectly . Service excellent - big shout out to Pedro - Food and Beverage Manager - he made us feel very welcome
Perfect Service, friendly, attentive. Food (burger) was good and really good value for money. Couldnt believe that this is a Hotel Restaurant. Quite impressive.
As we had 2 celiacs in our party it is never straightforward however Pedro expertly guides us through the menu. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. Thank you for a great meal.
Was taken for Afternoon Tea by my daughter and grandson to celebrate my 80th birthday. Although there weren't many staff ,the ones who served us were friendly , polite ,and a credit to the restaurant .
Went for brunch. Small servings of food. But super fresh and super delicious. Still worth it for the flavours but could have done with more !!
Staff was extremely welcoming and very friendly, and the food was next level the fish was cooked to perfection.
Food and service was great. Lovely place to come for a relax meal when staying in the hotel. Staff were fantastic
It was my first time dining at this restaurant, and while the food wasn’t the best, the experience had its highlights. The three-course meal had its ups and downs unfortunately, the starter was disappointing, and the main course was just alright. However, the steak and sauce were quite enjoyable. The real standout was the dessert, which was absolutely delicious. What truly made the evening special was the service the waiters were fantastic, making us feel right at home.
The restaurant is best booked to ensure they have a table available. Small menu, the Sunday roasts look good but you need to order before 4. Nice modern themed restaurant.
Surprisingly no ribeye so tried gammon steak but it was way too dry and tough. Salmon pasta was good and portion’s way more than enough. The side dishes were quite good though especially those thick cut fries were perfect.
popped in for lunch, had the Sunday roast which was well balanced, tasty and just enough. service a little slow especially as the restaurant was very quite. only real issue is the service charge being added to the bill 12.5% which I don't agree with and would have probably tipped 5% max for the experience.
Really nice Sunday lunch with family. Good quality food with great service!
Timings on food was from one extreme to another, the Pork Chop was cooked perfect but coupd have been served with more vegetables
The atmosphere and service was lovely however there is a lot of room for improvement regarding food and drinks. From the grazers section of the menu I’d only recommend the pork bites and the calamari. The lemon pepper wings barely had any taste of lemon in addition to them being dry. Having them grilled instead of deep fried would help retain do moisture… The steak burger was excellent, very flavourful and cooked to perfection. The steak was just ok. The chicken breast was extremely salty borderline inedible. Desert wise… as an Italian… the tiramisu was disgracefully soggy. In all honesty will not be rushing back anytime soon.
Went here on Sunday with my partner, nice little decor which was pretty and service started off well with them taking coats etc. however I don’t know if it’s because the place was quiet but they kept ignoring us. We originally just wanted the roast dinner, one course as advertised online on their website but they stated we could only get at least two courses when we arrived and when we questioned this they stated how it couldn’t be put through as one thing - weird but fine so we got starters too. The bits were lovely but they filled the bottom of the bowls with lettuce so it looked fuller than it was which was abit cheeky. The roast looked good and elements were but the gravy and other items were so salty that it ruined everything else. It took us ages to get anyone’s attention for the bill or more drinks as they were avoiding our gave so we took the service charge off because of everything. Because of this the waitress’ tone became abit sarcastic when she told us to have a nice day and left us to collect our coats ourselves 🫣. Place looks pretty though and can see how it has good potential so hope this was just a one off!
Came today with my partner, this place is genuinely beautiful and I love to see a venue that is so pleasing to the eye, clean and decorative. All the staff are so friendly and presentable, so firstly we got a Guinness brought over that you could tell was done in 1 pour the head come nearly halfway to the bottom of the glass but no problem!! We too bothered and we sent that back, and however unfortunately I found all the food really bland, this let the whole place down, the chef isn’t a bad cook so this isn’t a reflection on him, however I find that a venue that is so classy and beautiful, has such a boring menu, I had steak, it was nearly grey looking, so it’s not quality meat, probably bookers. Considering the price the bill came too I am disappointed and probably will only return for drinks, I hope they really can take this into review with HR& management. Please put out a quality, exciting menu to match the prices you have and I promise this place will be booming!!! The staff are lovely, the place is beautiful and clean, it really is the quality of food that is letting it down. No hate just Constructive criticism Ps. Love the Christmas tree napkins 🎄
Food was ok. Some of the sandwiches were dry, and 2 lots of scones were not good .It should have been cheesecake in the desserts, but none there had to ask for the sparkling wine that came with it. The service was good staff friendly would I go again no .
We visited with our friends from America and their daughters for Afternoon Tea. When I made the booking the lady said she would check with the chef that the booking for 6 was able to be accommodated, which he said would be fine. I thought that was a good sign as I imagined the food would all be freshly made on the day. The sandwiches were good and fresh, the cakes were ok, but the biggest disappointment was the scones. They were dry and tiny and just fell apart when you tried to halve them. We asked whether they had any plain scones and were told that these could be provided, but would take time to defrost them from the freezer. No wonder the fruit scones were so hard and not fresh. I would expect them to have been made and cooked from scratch on the day….I’ve had better scones in M&S cafes and was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend their afternoon tea again and felt we were ripped of for £150 for the 6 guests.
We were a party of 10, booked lunch for 1.30pm. The service was extremely slow, it took ages for the waitress to come and take our drinks orders then ages to take our food orders. We must have been there an hour before we actually got our main course. Staff were informed that my niece had to catch a train back to London at 4pm but that didn't seem to make any difference. She actually missed her train and had to catch a later one. Not ideal. Everyone enjoyed their meals although the chicken could have been hotter and the "Baked Cheesecake" was not baked, very disappointing. Sadly we didn't feel that the lunch warranted a service charge so we didn't pay one and probably won't be returning.
The room is quite nice but the service is soooo slow. When we arrived there was one person covering the bar lounge, serving the bar and the whole restaurant!!!! Imagine? I felt really sorry for them. Then more staff started and the service actually got even worse. Plates left on tables, no condiments delivered, dirty tables near us. It could be good but the service really lets it down. Was considering coming for Christmas but definitely not now!!!!
Wouldn’t recommend the Christmas lunch. Had higher expectations since I’ve eaten here before and all other other photos had good presentations. £35 for 3 courses. Venison Pate starter was ok, the Roast Warwickshire Turkey as shown in the photo looks like something you’d get for a school lunch, clearly everything was pre-prepared like a buffet lunch. For dessert I had the chocolate cake which was a bit dry and stodgy, with coconut sorbet which had the texture of frozen coconut oil. Not worth the money and it was a disappointing experience.
Ordered the buttermilk chicken burger. It looks amazing on the plate but was absolutely flavourless. Chips were greasy and cold, with burnt bits at the bottom. Very disappointing.
The Gammon steak I was served wasn’t well cooked. Although I only ate a bit from the part that appeared cooked, I’ve spent all morning on the toilet pouring my insides out. The Cranberry Martini on the other hand was quite good.
I booked COGS for my mums 60th Birthday - the food was amazing, large portions and really well presented. The staff were amazing and tried their best however there was 2 large parties and several small tables in the restaurant and only 2 members of staff. The food took a while to come out and the staff seemed stressed which wasn’t a very nice atmosphere. Furthermore, the restaurant lacks ambience and wasn’t the best dining experience. There was not the best communication prior to the event either. I would go back with a smaller group as COGS does not seem to be able to handle larger groups.
I ordered brunch, asked the waitress if the food would be out in less than 40 minutes as im limited on time. She very confidently confirmed that this won't be an issue. After 55 minter my eggs still weren't done so I had to leave without having food. How hard is it to prepare a couple of eggs? The lack of care is shocking, I hope the manager looks into this.
Ordered 3 fish and chip meals but only 1 available. The food was only luke warm. Ordered a bottle of water with the meal but the bottle had a hole in the bottom it made a mess of the table ran down and drenched a chair and trousers but also water landed on the food when the bottle was lifted ( soggy chips) Waiter just left paper tissues to clean up and never even replaced the water. What a waste of £102
