El Camino Real Fullerton Reviews
passing by from puerto rico & my friend brought me here, WOW!!!! que comida mas fresco y ricooo!!!! 100000/10, the food was fresh, the minute you walk in, you just smell authentic food, absolutely delicious!!! when traveling through again, this will most definitely be on my list of places to go to
I have been here a few times before when I worked at a hospital down the street. I was in the area so decided to come back. I chose a carnitas plate with a side carne asada taco. The carnitas were soft yet crispy which is what I LOVE. Great flavors. So very good. The rice was super flaky. Delicious. The beans were perfectly seasoned. The carne asada taco was PERFECT. So good. The aqua de Sandia (watermelon) was soooooo good. Definitely recommend this plate. The food is authentic Mexican and delicious. !!!
Great Carne asada burrito today. Eaten here lots of times but never gave a review. Consistent, delicious and authentic Mexican food. Good portions good value good eats!! (Added my own avocado at home today) Salsas add good flavor, red is spicier than green. Friendly staff amd clean restaurant.
Trouble getting through on phone but when I show up and order the wait is do able and well worth it. Closed on Tuesday
The food was tasty. Good size burrito. Medium nacho. It was busy with every time we pass by. It is not going to be the greatest or special place, but it will be comfort food to go to. One little note is that they don't have a salsa bar like other you can go for as much you want. The sauce was ok.
Got the chille verde burrito and it was absolutely amazing!!
Well worth our first trip!!! Had the Kobe Special (not listed on the menu) Carnitas with rice and beans. Great Carnitas and not fatty, almost thought I would not finish the portions. My better half had the Chile verde that was also delicious!!! Yes we’ll be back.
My first time here. I was very impressed. We ordered a steak burrito and a chicken taco salad. They were both excellent. It took 10 min for the food. The staff was friendly, the place was clean. I would recommend this place even for the picky Mexican food eater.
I can see why Kobe would come here. Real Authentic Mexican food. I chose the Kobe Special which was a Carne Asada Tostada and a Carnitas plate and was bombolicious! R.I.P Kobe!
I am a simple eater, and one of my favorite things to get at a Mexican restaurant is a bean and cheese burrito! There bean and cheese burritos, are hands down, the best I have ever had in my life!!! I know some may say, how hard is it to get a good bean and cheese burrito. Believe me, I have had some nasty ones! Their beans are truly authentic, and their tortillas are amazing! My boyfriend loves their carnitas! Great service and great food….you can’t go wrong!
The lines can be crazy, but well worth the wait. My husband had the carnitas nachos, they were delicious! I had the taco salad, excellent as well. The cantaloupe juice is a must, you have to get it. So refreshing and good.
Hands down, love this place. Love the fresh, handmade salsa - it is always my favorite. I love how it is always chunky and full of flavor, but my favorite thing is that the spice level goes up and down ever so slightly. Which Is what makes me think it is made in-house. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my family highly recommends the chili relleno (I know I butchered the spelling on that).
I have been eating at this place for over 20 years and have never had a bad experience. I'm presently having some work done on my home and I feed lunch every day to my worker, he always ask for 2 tacos and a drink from El Camino. That has to tell you something....food is great!
I love, love, love their dorado hard shell beef tacos. I've been eating here since I was like 9 yrs old. It's a fullerton staple and if u love Mexican this place has it all. Service is always quick and food is always amazing. Highly recommend coming here.
Consistent service and food. One of our family favorites for Mexican food. There is usually always a small line to order ( always worth it) and plenty of tables for a family of 5. Restrooms are always maintained, with 3 small ones, I generally always take them to wash their hands before we eat. So it's nice to take them to a clean restroom. My kids enjoy the tacos, asada tortas ( no jalapeno) and tostada salads ( asada with beans) 1 salad is enough for 2 kids.
This place is one of my family's favorite places to go. It's a little hole-in-the-wall, but we are never disappointed. The line is a little long, but yes the food is worth it. If you're looking for some good Mexican food, this is the spot. I really like the "sopes", but the other options for food have not been bad at all.
I love the food here. The BEST I ever had. Even things that I really don't like are the bomb here. Like I'm not into I enchiladas but from here....OMG . I've been coming here for about ten or so years . I can remember when they fist open there was this young early teens boy/man that worked here... Now he runs the place and he is using his grandmother's recipes I'll bet. Keep up the good work kid. Lol he's a grown man now.
It's been 5 years since I've been to el camino the staff is still friendly as ever I ordered some freshly made chips, tortillas, chicken, and of course rice and beans. All was gobbled up when I took my order home. Next time I will order more for left overs. Family friendly great food good price.
Delicious authentic Mexican food at reasonable pricing, and decent portions. The frijoles here are excellent! Love the Kobe memorabilia.
1 million out of 10. My favorite food ever maybe. Carne asada burrito with no rice is my go to. I love the staff and food. Beans are top tier. For the love of God go here if you like Mexican food or joy.
Love the fresh and delicious food. In this last visit had carnitas, buche, and al pastor. All were very good. Food is authentic and well served. Took left overs home, which were just as good the next day. I do miss the self serve salsa bar but I do understand covid has impacted certain things.
The food at this place was good. The portions are extra large and they do not skimp on the meat. There was a large selection to choose from and the prices were very inexpensive for what you get compared to most other establishments of this kind. Delicious!
Great authentic food. We've been eating their food for over 15 years, and it's reliably delicious. Orders are fast. Good salsa, too. Try the taquitos with guacamole!
Since first visiting about a year ago, I can't stop coming here! The food is fresh, authentic and the orders come out quickly. A few months ago we had the chance to meet the owner's daughter. What a sweetheart! I recommend the nachos. I usually get carnitas (amazing flavor ), but you can get your choice of meat. Hub loves the wet burritos and our pals down the street love the tacos. I'm pretty impressed with the carne asada and carnitas tacos as well. They're filled to the limit and have 2 tortillas, so it's pretty much 2 tacos. Our order was around $30 and fed 5 people. That's beyond reasonable.
I shouldn't say how good it is to keep it a secret.... but it's awesome. Yummy traditional Mexican food. Don't be in a hurry because sometimes it takes a while to get your food when they're busy but definitely worth the wait...oh, and the prices are really low with a lot of food. Try the chicken tostada... one of my favs..... and the salsa bar....😋
I've been here a few times now for lunch and it has been good each time. Prices are reasonable, staff has been friendly. They definitely get a lunch rush, so plan accordingly.
Food is always on point! Great flavor in every dish. My favorite are the lonja tacos! (Tacos de chicharrón) they’re yummy!!!!!
This place is amazing. Super great prices and every single thing we ordered was 10/10. We got the tostada and birria combo plate. Comes with tons of food and sides.
This place is by far one of my favorite Mexican Food restaurants. The flavor profile of their meats is mind blowing and oh how tender the meat is!!! I absolutely love this place and with time it just seems to get better. You can actually watch them put your food together which I find it kind of fun to get lost in. Thank you for the amazing memories I have shared with friends and family here! Your hot sauces and smiling faces will not be forgotten. Love this place!
Great food, been going there for over 30 years. Perfect every time
It was one of Kobes favorite places to get mexican food and the workers there can tell u stories of when he would come in. Besides all that, the food is great and good portion size for the price. I was brought here by a foody and i bring everyone i respect and they all go back. They used to make their own chips and tortillas. I think they still do they just dont have a seperate counter for selling them anymore. Its a pretty big place (takes up 2 suites) with alot of seating. Just not a nice restaurant where u take ur family. Its good for take out and for a quick bite of really really good mexican food. Its kinda like half street, half sitdown with deep mexican roots. From the bay is wat i say
Delicious Mexican food. We went for breakfast and we were blown away by how great they were and how inexpensive it was for the quality. Definitely feels like a "hole in the wall' place.
Came here first time as a kid with my friend and her family. It was so delicious I told my family about it the next time they wanted to order Mexican food for dinner and they loved it too and we order still to this day. It gets really busy sometimes so it takes a while for your order if you have a larger order but the portions are huge so it's definitely worth it. The beef enchiladas are my favorite. So yummy with the enchilada sauce!
A fun fact I didn't know is that Kobe once has ordered here! They have a photo dedicated to that moment. It's really endearing. Besides that, the food is as authentic as it gets. Having come from Los Angeles, the Carne Asada Burrito I got reminded me of a really good food truck burrito. The service is also very quick and efficient and orders get done promptly as soon as you order, unless its peak traffic because that's how much the people that do already come here to dine know its worth the wait! Try it out yourself. They have various more options than just Burritos. Anything authentically Mexican you can think of this place offers. Oh and if you love hot sauce, the red sauce is just the right amount of spice! I just wish they gave me more than 2 haha but that's nothing to really complain about. It might not look much from the outside, but the Mexican food here is the best you can get within this block of town!
We've passed by this place 1000 times because we already have our favorite Mexican food place. But a friend of ours kept insisting we try it. So to satisfy her we stopped by. To our surprise it was delicious and prices are reasonable. This is a "Mom 'n' Pop" shop and now we have a second favorite place 👌. If you have a hankering for good Mexican food stop by a give it a try 👍
This is not your average taco shop. As a matter of fact you can't even call it that. This is quality Mexican food! Whatever I get I always grab at a minimum a 1/4lb of chicharon, it's that good. It's high quality food that doesn't disappoint and I would serve this for any occasion.
The food is always on pointe. I usually get either the nachos or the taquitos. This time I got the two taco combo plate with pollo and carne asada. The green salsa is my absolute favorite. The service is sometimes slow and maybe not always the friendliest but the food is worth it! I always try to call ahead whenever possible.
The sopes are fave here, also come.and try the carnitas... if you get some the line is sometimes out the door for the carnitas.
really enjoyed the food here! The tacos and enchiladas were tasty and fresh. The staff was friendly and quick with service. Prices were good and affordable for the amount of food. I’ll definitely come back again!
Excellent authentic fresh Mexican food, wide variety of meats available. Reasonable prices, good service.
Famous as one of Kobe Bryant and wife face spot.
Wow the prices are amazing ,expedite the quality is always spot on and so fresh eveything ,thank you el Camino real
Great restaurant nt been there for years.
Visiting from Texas and decided to check El Camino Real out! The BEST breakfast burrito I have had and I have had many!
Great food and fast service as always.
This place is my favorite place to eat Birria.
Hey there! I just had the Pollo Nachos and everything from the chicken to the cheese was super fresh. I do wish that the chips stayed a bit crunchier for longer, but ordering extra on the side solved that issue for me. Overall, it's always been my go-to takeout option because of how consistently tasty it is.
Just popped in this time real quick for my favorite AL pastor burrito and large Sandia and as always it was exceptional I love this restaurant I've been a patron since they opened in a single space now they're huge and never had a complaint or issue, staff are always helpful and friendly even when swamped at lunch or dinner or a weekend morning breakfast mob. Great owners who have grown their business with the surrounding neighborhood definitely loved by us locals.
Great tasting food, always inviting friends to try it out it's so good.
The food was phenomenal, but there there's one thing that has changed is the consistency of the making of certain plates
This is fantastic Mexican and American Mexican food. Nachos are piled high with toppings and the meat was so soft and moist. We only tried the nachos, but it's worth coming here just for that. Very good.
I love El Camino Real! The food is excellent. People are excellent and atmosphere is welcoming. I go to this Mexican restaurant 3 to 4 times a week. Sometimes I get a bean and cheese burrito, maybe a veggie Mexican salad, hard shell tacos, enchilada everything is great. I also love how on some plates provide a small plate with lettuce slice of onion and a slice of tomato. To me not only taste but presentation is important. Many other restaurants just plop food on plate without considering presentation. The addition of onion, tomato’s and lettuce tells me they care about quality plus the prices are great too.
The food is great and delicious. The ladies that have been there forever running the cash register, sometimes (often) give a little attitude. It seems like after Kobe Bryant died, they became emboldened like they're high and mighty as customers discovered that Kobe used to love to come to Camino Real with his family. His wife, Vanessa grew up in the area. She introduced him to this place.
Un agradable ambiente. Buen srvicio. Un 100% good service....
Prices are pretty good here. Had to try the carnitas and it was good, but not great IMHO. I came on a Saturday evening and it was busy. Took a good 15 minutes just to get my burrito. I would come back but would try something else.
Recommended Mexican food that is consistent. Amazed by Pork Rid tacos/Chicharron , crispy and delicious. That’s my new fave. Parking in the strip mall. Friday afternoon,No Lines.Friday Dinner Busy! Handicapped access. Bathrooms are well-worn but clean. My go-to Friday night dinner spot. Good Hearty Potions.Enjoy!
This is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood. It isn't fancy, but almost everything on the menu (that I've had) is really good. Their slow cooked meats, particularly their carnitas, are really very good.
Food is great, dining area is basic and super hot during the summer.
Good food and fairly fast. The line can get long but when they have two people taking orders the line moves quickly. Within 5 to 8 minutes all 6 of our orders were called. The salsa bar is open for patrons to obtain their salsa of choice. Just ask for chips to have an appetizer.
I enjoyed the enchiladas which I think would have been much better if they were warmer than they were. The lady taking our order might have had a long day for she didn't come off very friendly. Also there was a 'help wanted sign', so I get it, short on help.
Great hearty delicious Mexican food for an outstanding price. Cash or debit on though so come prepared! Excellent burritos and the rice and beans make great sides for big parties. Salsa Roja is amazing!
Great Mexican food. Most of the items are delicious delicious, but can be slightly greasy at times. We always come back for the enchiladas and hard shell b beef tacos. It's sad they took away their "liquado" (smoothie) station after the remodel.
Good selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Surprised by how much seating there was inside, but then not, because food was excellent-so you can see why they get busy.
Nice workers. Food was Ok. Good place to go if you’re craving Mexican food.
Really good Mexican food. Great green salsa. It's a pretty popular place, even for breakfast. I did like very much the customer service we received from the guy who took our order. He was sweet and patient. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items from there menu.
I have liked this place since the very first time trying the food. I usually get burritos or tacos. Each time I'll change up the meat and each time it tastes great. They have spicy carrots which is good stuff. The drinks that are made in house are all delicious as well. The major con is that the meat tends to be dry. If they're salsa was bad then it would be a major problem.
Great food. 1st time here. Actually heard Kobe (Bryant) used to come up from Newport for this place, so had to try it out. The food delivered on our expectations. What could have gotten us to give it 5 stars was a little updating to the inside of the restaurant (ambiance). Shopping plaza was recently updated and it'd be great to see this place a little more modernized. Other than that, though, I'd recommend it.
Food is great they have their style very defined. Nice cashiers attending, don't lose patience always polite. Favorites whatever dish that has carnitas on it. The place needs remodeling, maybe comfortable chairs. Overall it's a great taqueria.
The food is great here me and my family love it. The service is not so good. I always try to order ahead for pick up but they can never seem to answer there phone, I know the phone is working because I can hear it when I get there. Other then that great food. 👍
They serves up deliciously authentic Mexican cuisine with bold flavors and a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Their menu offers a great variety of traditional dishes, making it a go-to spot for anyone craving a true taste of Mexico.
If you're looking for an authentic spot that's stood the test of time, you need to check out El Camino Real. Sure, you might have to practice a little patience, as getting your food can take a while, but clearly, they're doing something right—they've been around for a long time for a very good reason!
Decent food. Good chicharrones. I asked the gentleman serving the food wich one was the chicharron guisado and he pointed at chile verde I ordered that but it wasn't chicharrones it was chile verde! I hate it but my wife ordered the chicharron de lonja plate and it was delicious. I ate the beans and rice and throw the meat. My wife doesn't like spicy food, she couldn't eat it. She thinks pepper it's spicy. 😆
My friend and I weren't greeted even though multiple staff made eye contact. I'm certain one of them may have been management/owner as well. That's really disappointing. It takes very little to say "hello, someone will be right with you" then when the woman that finally helped us did, she couldn't care less we had been waiting and had an irritable demeanor. We felt we were interrupting her work for ordering food. They were busy but I'm sorry, welcome to the food business. Now the food was good but I can get as good of food, or better, elsewhere, and that's what I'll do.
I did expect more of the carnitas flavor. I didn't like it too much. The service is fast and the place ok, just they play the music too loud.
Came for 1st time, service isn't good. No one gave us a number or anything for our order, no greeting, no thank you just told us our total, took our card and left the register. I cut my own receipt! Food was good though..
I put in my order of 1 taco and 1 cheese enchilada over 34 minutes ago. I get it…. Yes, this is a Sunday and the place is busy but really???? Should it take this long for a small order? I asked the lady behind the coy yet to check and she told me they were busy. She then said that there are 4 orders before mine gets made. Come on people, get it together…. El Camino has been in business for years. If you do t have the staff to support the demand, hire more people. The food here is Ok, not the greatest but not the worst. The service is and always has been horrible. Please get it together…
Cashier with a long face, she game me the change in a bad mood, and my co-worker warn me about her, food not even average taste, for my first time I doubt going back.
After spending $15 on 3 tacos and a drink, they wanted $.75 for a refill on soda. I like supporting local restaurants but it felt like the refill charge was based on my appearance. Regardless, I won’t be back here again.
I’ve never been so offended at food before. The nachos were gross and the carne asada quesadilla I ordered to go was tiny with a half of the box filled with shredded lettuce . These reviews must be paid because no way this is “homemade” level.
Like the other reviews, most of them complaining about bad service, I'm giving this place 2 stars. Food is good, 4 stars for the food. But service sucks. No smiles, all seemed like they're in a bad mood. One lady behind the counter was frowning & when I repeated my order, she seemed annoyed. When she called my number, I couldn't help it I asked her "are you mad?" She said no but her face looked like she wanted to strangle me 😆 I know I didn't do or say anything bad when I placed my order. The owner should do something about this. Are they not reading the reviews? Teach your staff to be a lil friendly please
Muy bueno la comida pero las cajeras platican más de lo que atienden los cocineros muy tardados muy tardado
Food is on point and delicious I'm mexican trust me I know. but the costumer service is a one star for sure cashiers always when I say always I mean every single time I've gone they are in a super bad mood. You get the impression that they either don't want to be there or they are bothered with your questions. I voiced my concern to the person giving me the service today and all she did was stear at me and never apologized or said a word regarding my concern. Love their food but this ongoing issue with bad attitude is enough for me to go somewhere else. 1 star forsure. Edit : my wife found this on the chips after dumping them on her plate omg def not going back now.....😔 edit: another hair god this is disgusting.
No more PAL bacon breakfast burrito. Owner has cut several menu items to cut costs. Food quality is inconsistent I.e., Beans are tasty but guacamole tastes watered down. Some menu items are extremely greasy. Hard shell tacos are over priced. Red salsa is good. Service is slow.
The food is absolutely incredible, you can not find better Mexican food anywhere in Orange County. Have been coming to this place for over 25 years but recently in the past couple of years the staff have been extremely rude on multiple occasions and now on every visit. Its hard to wright this negative review, considering this been my favorite restaurant for the past 3 decades but they will never receive another dime from me again.
Visited El Camino couple days ago and we had 1 order of the huevos rancheros. This order came with only 1 egg & the huevos rancheros salsa was watery, it had onions to cover up the one egg which supposed to be 2. My order had also 1 egg & plenty of ham.🥚??? Make sure you check your order when you receive it, because they're giving only 1 egg these days..we brought it to the cashier's attn & she apologized, but the cook was right behind listening...said nothing😮🍳
The food is good but the service is very slow, especially at lunch time and when you have to go back to work, better find another place. The phone service is even worse, the cashiers have to attend people in the restaurant and answer the phone at the same time, it's annoying to hear the lady on the phone talking to you and someone else. Sometimes it seems that they did not take your order correctly. The staff never looks happy, they are always grumpy
As a Mexican-American growing up with a good appetite and decent knowledge of Mexican food, this was passable food, but nothing great. The service mediocre and the order 3 people before me and my own order were incorrect. There were a lot of people sitting at their tables waiting for their orders, so I assume the kitchen was in the weeds. My order of 4 tacos took 25 mins, and the cashier had an ugly attitude. :-( Disappointed.
My family and I have been coming here for years. Pre Pandemic the place was constantly busy. The food is delicious and the place is very clean. Pre Pandemic they had a lot more seating and a salsa bar. And I can understand why there is no longer a salsa bar and less seating, for the health and safety of the patrons. With that being said, let’s talk about service. When my wife and I arrived on Friday, there was approximately 3 people ahead of us waiting for their orders. When we placed our order, we were greeted by the lady behind the counter smacking her chewing gum and popping it in our faces with a look of being bothered by taking our order. My wife loves their food so little things like that don’t bother me. But what does bother me is how the cashier and her friend behind the counter acted so unprofessional and behaved with my wife and the other customers after us that I was observing. At the time when we placed our order there was only six people in the restaurant, so I really didn’t see the point of the cashier to yell at the top of her lungs the time go order numbers when the people were standing right in front of her. It was almost like she was playing a game of it because she and her friend behind the counter was laughing and carrying on after each time she would do it. When my wife and I had our order called, my wife walked up to the counter, asked for some salsa, and the lady smacked the plastic containers of salsa on my wife’s tray, but when she noticed that I saw her and was watching tentatively, her attitude somewhat changed and she smiled and thanked my wife. Maybe these lady’s were having a bad day. Or maybe it could explain why there was only 3 people eating at their restaurant on a Friday evening. Their food is still delicious, but something about eating there left a bad taste in my mouth. Next time, if there is a next time, we will get the food to go. But that’s a shame because my wife really enjoyed going there to eat out. The food is a “5-STARS”. The service attitude “ minus -4 STARS”. Hopefully service attitude will approve.
How this place has been in business for so long i don't know. Ordered a Pollo Asado (grilled chicken) burrito. Got my burrito, took it home and i started to eat. Immediately only got a mouthful of rice, kept eating figuring i would find some chicken somewhere... Well... i found maybe 4 thin strips and a couple little chunks of chicken in my burrito. It was mostly all rice and beans. Total disappointment. Would much rather drive another couple miles to Alvero's where the Grilled chicken burrito is ONLY chicken and pico, no rip off fillers at Alvero's. I won't be back to El Camino Real. UPDATE, one hour later my stomach is in knots from the burrito. Do not eat here!
The food is okay. I haven't been back for years because the people who work there seem to always be angry and serve you very rudely. Today when I returned, what do you think? They're the same workers from many years ago. They had the same angry expressions. The service is terrible. And now it seems like they even sell you napkins and spoons.
This place has the worst customer service. The food is barely mediocre. Every time I have gone, the cashiers have attitude & are rude. I witnessed 2 cashiers being very rude & sarcastic to an elderly man. The man was very humble & just went in to buy some beans. They were so mean & disrespectful to him. It just made my blood boil. The last time I was there, I was charged for 2 large sides (rice & beans). When the food was given to me, I told the same cashier/employee who had charged me - that I paid for 2 large sides & showed her the receipt. No apology! She was irritated & seemed to be angry with me?!?! Instead of giving me the right size, she gave me the price difference (money back). I told her I wanted the larger size as I had ordered. But she ignored me and walked away. I walked over to where she was and let her know how rude she was being & that I would never be returning. I live right down the street & I will NEVER patronize them again! Also, they put up a sign saying (something to the effect of) sometimes they may not say "thank you," but they do appreciate your business. Obviously, they have an ongoing issue. So much so that it warrants a sign. Freaken ridiculous!
