Had craving for Thai cuisine all morning. Found this place nearby. Very authentic Thai flavor. The chicken satay was delicious. The yellow curry chicken was awesome 👏
This is seriously a hidden gem Thai food! They have some special menu that are extremely good and I wouldn’t have known it if not for the recommendations from my server. The beef panang curry was slow cooked for 6-8 hours and I could totally feel that because the beef was so tender. The curry was thick and really yummy. The fish cake starter was also made in house. The paste texture was just like what I had in Thailand. Other dishes we had were great too, the fried rice, tom kha, etc. This is like a local, homemade place that made me feel cozy. Totally recommend!
This is officially my new go-to spot for Thai food in OC! Their menu offers a wide variety of options, but that doesn’t mean they compromise on quality—every dish we tried was so flavorful and well-made. My favorites were the classic Pad See Ew, the Shrimp Spring Roll, and the Tom Yum Gai soup. Each dish had bold, authentic flavors and was cooked to perfection. To top it all off, the Mango Sticky Rice was the perfect sweet ending to balance out the savory meal. The service was also great! The staff was friendly and attentive. Another plus is the ample parking—they’re located in a spacious plaza, making it really easy to find a spot.
So we ordered through a delivery service and got the pineapple curry, ghang ka-ree and satay chicken. They sent some peanut sauce that was good. Unfortunately, we made our own rice especially since rice is not included in the meals and costs extra. The food tasted good and it was delivered piping HOT. Unfortunately we won’t order from this place again….. just too expensive.
Modest neighborhood eatery in busy strip mall. The greeting, or lack thereof, could use a little work, but overall this was a solid choice for quick, casual Thai food. We started with $2.75 Chang beers (special pricing all the time). One of us ordered the cashew nut chicken dinner combo. The entree portion wasn’t big, but it came with soup, egg rolls, wontons and rice, so it was plenty of food. We also ordered a combination fried rice and chicken pad Thai. The soup’s broth was clear but savory. The wontons and egg rolls were also good. The cashew chicken was tender and flavorful with a hint of spice (requested 3 out of 10). The rice dish was good, if maybe a little heavy on the oil. The pad Thai was well-seasoned and delicate. The one thing I wish they did was use white meat for their chicken. I think they used thigh meat. Not the best we’ve had, but we’ll be back to give it another try. Again, a solid choice in the area.
I have been going here for more than a decade, and it's like an on-again-off-again relationship! When it's on point, the food is yummy. When it is not, it's such a bummer. This review will focus on our latest visit. THE FOOD: Their menu is pretty extensive and offers almost everything you could want in a Thai restaurant. Our party of 6 ordered a bunch of dishes to share family style. Here's how each one fared: * Beef salad - It was excellent. The ingredients were all fresh and it had that good balance between the sour sauce and savory meat. * Tom yum gai - This hot-and-sour soup with chicken and mushroom was surprisingly bland. In the past, it's been too salty. Clearly the cooks have have consistency issues. * Angel wings - We actually ordered the buffalo wings, but instead got this appetizer (chicken wings stuffed with glass noddles and shrimp). We were going to complain about getting the wrong dish, but no server was nearby and we were too hungry at this point. Fortunately, it was good. * Pad Woon Sen - These glass noodles came loaded with veggies and chicken. Flavor was good, though there weren't as much noodles as we're used it. * Thai fried rice - A standard fried rice dish; nothing to write home about. * Spicy scallops - This was the big disappointment, as it came with only 6 pieces of scallops for $19.95. The cooks tried to hide this fact by piling bamboo shoots over top. Worst off, it wasn't really that spicy or flavorful. THE SERVICE: During my latest outing, the service was mixed. One server was quite helpful and attentive, while another one seemed annoyed anytime we asked for something. The third server was decent, but never smiled and didn't say much. Now, I say this knowing that customer service at most authentic Asian restaurants is a low priority. (I'm Asian and grew up in this culture.) But I raise it here because I have been to Thai Basil when the service has been amazing (clearly their A Team was working) and when the service has been utterly horrible. So, clearly management needs to do a better job at training. THE SETTING: It's a good sized restaurant, though you might have to wait a while if you have a party of 5 or more because there isn't a lot of space for bigger groups. Our party of 6 was seated near the front, where it's rather cramped. If you're a party of 4 or fewer, no problems -- they have plenty of comfy booths. Fortunately, it's beautifully decorated, the bathrooms are clean, and there's usually parking in the large lot (it's in the same strip mall as the Dollar Tree and Smart and Final). THE CONCLUSION: I really want to give Thai Basil a 4 out of 5, but based on my recent outing here, I have to lower it to a 3 out of 5. The subpar customer service and inconsistent food does not justify the increased prices. But in my heart, I WANT them to get better because I have great memories eating here with my then-girlfriend/now-wife.
They pretty okay. I ordered Satay Chicken and chicken wonton. Chicken was fine. But chicken wonton was not that great. I expected some good filling where chicken and some veggies with it. Restaurant looks pretty neat . There is small waiting section as well I like this about the restaurant. I feel it’s pricey!!
The food was too charred , and I like food that is made well from a wok but not burned. The only flavorful item was that tomyumgoong. Fried rice and radna what's so burnt, my friend and I barely had it after one bite. Curry was not good as it was bland add watery. I've been to thailand 6 times and had curry done the right way. Will not go back.
Since the new owner they are reducing portions and putting alot of water crest instead of meat. I ordered my favorite Kungpao trio with brown rice they have one shrimp one piece of chicken and very little beef. It was like a vegetable Kungpao and the price is rediculous $29.00. Also trio friend rice for my kid had one shrimp… $19.00! Very disappointing. Never going there again
Disappointing Thai restaurant. Food was bland and you just taste the salt or the spiciness. Thai food is world famous for being flavorful. No real Thai would think this place is legit. Also, prices were high for very little amount of food given...look below picture and that is $35 of food, not including tip. Green curry was bland and I could make a better noodle dish at home. Go eat at other Thai places. This place is not good value for the money nor is rhe food good. Bunch of college kids rating this place and not know what real good Thai food should taste like....
We wanted to try a new place. There were alot of people there so we thought it must be good. We ordered from the lunch special menu. That was not a good idea. I had the teriyaki rice bowl and my sister ordered the Salmon with teriyaki and extra chow mein. The chow mein came out first. It was alright. My sister's food was served first. Her salmon portion was really small. It looked like a small log. I had to wait 15minutes or so for my rice bowl. When I got my food, I was surprised that everything on the plate was separated and not in a bowl. My chicken was served in a soap dish, the sauce kinda tasted off and the wonton was all dried up. Not too great. We were disapointed and won't be back.
⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 out of 5 stars) for me! I called to place a pickup order, but the staff was not friendly at all — she cut me off multiple times and gave robotic responses when I asked for recommendations, just reading straight from the menu. When ordering, note that rice doesn’t come with lunch — you have to add it separately. The Pad See Ew had an unpleasant beef smell and ended up in the trash. Given the high ratings, I expected much better, but this was a disappointing experience.
We were really hungry and excited to get some Thai food after coming back from out of town. We ordered the coconut tom yum soup, yellow curry, and chicken patties — and every dish was a disappointment. The chicken patty had absolutely no flavor; it was just sprouts and noodles mixed with old-tasting chicken. The coconut soup was watered down with almost no taste, and the mushrooms were hard. The yellow curry tasted burnt, was very thin, and contained barely any chicken — maybe an eighth of a thumb’s worth in a large order. What a waste of money. I ended up having to order from a different restaurant because this meal was so bad. This spot could make you dislike Thai food altogether. If I could give zero stars, I would. Trash with a capital T.
Would not recommend. Terrible food and a complete waste of money. -Satay Beef was unbearably salty, resembling emergency food jerky. -Pad See Ew with shrimp lacked depth, just bland with an overpowering spice. -Thai fried rice with chicken was completely flavorless. Either the kitchen or management needs to be changed because this was a highly disappointing experience.
