Renao Bar & Restaurant Galway Reviews
What an unexpected experience, this was the best Chinese food I’ve had outside of China and I’ve been there a lot. Absolutely fantastic. The place is big, very well lit and offers a wide range of seating options: small tables for couples or solo travelers, big tables for groups and a counter that’s quite intimate. Menu is huge which is usually not a good sign but the food was entirely homemade and to die for. We shared Pork Baijimo as a starter, the bread was soft and crunchy, the pork filling tender and juicy with great spices. As a main, I took the Biangbiang noodles with cumin lamb. The dish was huge and they did not cut down on meat and vegetables. Spice level was just perfect, textures and taste on point. Sure it’s slightly westernized, you wouldn’t find carrots and peas and pickled cabbage in Biangbiang noodles but that was a great idea to bring the dish to a more « restaurant-like » experience. Frankly delicious and highly, highly recommended.
The food is amazing! I had the crispy mushrooms and deep fried sushi, wow just wow. For the mains I had the noodles that are made in house. Im vegetarian and I’ve never had that many options available anywhere in Ireland. Don’t worry there is many options for meat eaters too 🙈 The staff were lovely and so nice to chat to. Would definitely come back!! 100/10
Fantastic! Definitely more traditional cuisine than a 'typical' Chinese restaurant in Ireland (or America), but the menu is approachable and the staff are very helpful. Even if you're not familiar with traditional Chinese, you're going to find something new and delicious here! As an added bonus, there are many vegan options in addition to the many meat dishes. The cocktail menu is fun--I tried the yogurt-based cocktail, and it was excellent.
Excelent experience. A huge variety in the menu with good options for drinks and beers as well. The service is very efficient and attentive. No much time waiting for food or drinks. The atmosphere is also good. I ordered a Mala Spicy Pork and it was fantastic. Very recommended! Surely I will return in Re Nao.
Definitely my favourite restaurant in all of Galway. I've been here too many times to count. The staff are always lovely and the food is always amazing. The two big standouts for food is their Lamb Shank Rendang and they also have an amazing Thai green curry. Lamb, chicken and beef is halal as well.
Underrated place! I had the fried rice with duck and my girlfriend had the biang biang noodles with chicken and a miso soup. We loved both dishes a lot! I've eaten my fair share of fried rice and this one is quite possibly one of the best. The handmade noodles are also delicious and made on the spot. Staff is also super friendly and the restaurant is in a nice location! Honestly deserves a close to 5 star rating.
One of the nicest spots in Galway. They have a set vegan menu which is so rare. The starters are very generous so don't over order as we were quite full by the time our main came around. Id recommend the spicy sesame dandan sauce if you create your own stir fry!! Ill definitely be coming back 🌟
We tried the Biang Biang Noodles after reading all the reviews, and it was the best decision ever! I had the Biang Biang Noodles with Grilled Chicken in the Sour and Spicy Qishan Broth (soup option), and it was incredibly flavorful and spicy—we absolutely loved it. I’d definitely recommend going for this dish. For drinks, I had a Long Island Iced Tea. It felt a bit stronger than flavorful, but still enjoyable. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely visit this place again whenever I’m in Galway.
Incredibly delicious food and friendly staff. We got offered the vegan only menu right away and had a surprisingly large selection of food. It was so good, we went there again the next day.
I only have good things to say about this restaurant! It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time - the flavours, quality and portion sizes were just perfect. The staff was great too, with a professional yet friendly approach making it an easy going dinner with friends. I wish they were closer to where I live, to be able to come back more often!
What.a great place to eat! With a super Manager & team. This is a our second time eating here this month. Freshly cooked delicious authentic Chinese food served by super friendly staff. Bubble tea to follow....👉🏻pro tip Assam black tea. YUMMY. If you can't travel to China right now. Go here. Eat delicious food. Then stroll along the quays & soak up all the rest of what Galway has to offer.
I had such a good experience here on a lovely afternoon in Galway, the staff were lovely and the Singapore noodles I ordered were the best singapore noodles I've ever had! The presentation and portion was amazing! Would absolutely recommend this restaurant as the food is divine!
Excellent Vegan Menu!! We had the Crispy Tofu Jiamo with White Bao Bun and Deep Fried Sushi Roll for starters. We had the Sizzling Vegan Duck and Soba Noodles with Seitan and Sour and Spicy Qishan Broth in soup. We will definitely be back! Lots that we would love to try. Very reasonable prices as you are getting big portions for mains with seitan or tofu.
One of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten in, and I've eaten in quite a few, fantastic dishes bursting with flavour and portion sizes that leaves your belly bursting afterwards also. The strawberry chicken was a sweet and savoury unique dish that was perfectly balanced and the shredded chicken had that the spicy flavour that left the tongue drooling for more. A place worthy of the 5 stars,
Fantastic dining experience in Galway, especially in a city that doesn’t offer a ton of easy to find vegan or vegetarian fine dining options for dinner. We had an awesome experience, and our server Orinta was phenomenal at managing so many tables at peak dinner time. We will always come back here when in Galway.
We found this lovely restaurant completely by chance and we were lucky we got offered a table as we walked in around 7.30 on a Saturday evening. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere with open plan kitchen, very comfi seats. Loved the bar area. We enjoyed a starter of bass morsels to share and the main courses followed on with no delay. I ordered Thai green curry with prawns and Jasmine rice. We ordered two other noodle dishes with beef and chicken. All fabulous. I never thought I'd manage to finish my curry, but I ended up licking the bowl clean. When super tasty food is combined with generous portion size, it's a sure recipe for happiness.
If pictures speak 1000 words, feast your eyes on these four pictures. I’ll write a few words, anyway. My wife and colleague (Vietnamese from LA) sat at the bar since the place was full. Be sure to make reservations, especially on a Saturday night. The vegan friendly menu, deliciously crafted cocktails, and exquisitely prepared Asian fare with strong emphasis on fresh and local ingredients make this the perfect restaurant. Dishes are cooked as traditionally as possible while everything from the cocktails to the appetizers have their roots based in Asian techniques and flavors. Lime has the swank of New York City, the unassuming attitude of London, Asian diversity found in San Francisco, taste you’d expect of a restaurant in Singapore; perhaps most importantly….the affable Galway charisma. Pearse will wow you with his masterful bartender swagger as he mixes top notch cocktails and Conner the maitre d' (man of the house, manager) will charm you with his hospitable, classy demeanor. They make the atmosphere very fun and inviting in the front of the house meantime the Malaysian chef and Thai sous chef work their magic behind the scenes. You’re reminded often that you and your sense are their priority. Make it a point to visit them. Vlad
Outstanding operation. Magnificent food. Stellar staff. Decorations were a nice balance of modern and ancient. Clean. The only out of place thing was the turn of the millenium alternative music playlist. Oh, and the unavailable duck. Regardless, I am definitely planning on returning for more.
This place is a gem if your vegan/vegetarian and love Asian food. They have a full vegan/vegetarian menu and you're really spoilt for choice with a lot of tofu & seitan options. The staff were very friendly and they even treated us to a special Anniversary vegan dessert. The space felt very safe and you can see all the cooks in the kitchen as they tirelessly prepare the food they're masks on. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back to sample more of the menu!
This place deserves a high rating!! The food is incredible, one of the best miso broths ever had! Honestly a must visit this place
The food was so delicious and Gabriella provided us the most delicious cocktails and amazing service! Would definitely recommend this place, especially the Yangtze juice and the Ganbay. For food we had a bunch vegan starters and they were all so good!
Super friendly and welcoming staff quick to help Plenty of food options, including make your own Tasty food with big portions, so big my girlfriend couldn't finish and the girl gladly put it into a tub, then sellotaped it, into a bag and sellotaped that so no chance of falling out Highly recommended
Beautiful place. Friendly and very professional staff. Amazing food 🤩 I definitely recommend this restaurant!
Excellent, excellent food. The mains are quite large so don't order lots of starters unless you plan to roll out of the door afterwards. There's a huge separate vegan menu as well.
Great food, really tasty, fresh, well presented. Staff is very engaged so you feel youre being taken care of at all times. Their manager very proactive, she always asks for feedback, listens and reacts. I'll keep returning <3
Fancy restaurant. Relaxing environment. The servive is friendly and fast. The food is delicious. You should try it!
Absolutely delicious food. Very nice, cosy atmosphere. Staff is very nice. Certainly, my favourite restaurant in Galway.
For Vegans, excellent food clearly marked, full of flavor and spice. I highly recommend the mushrooms, and the wok fried vegan duck. Top tier. Maybe pass on the vegan dumplings though, that's the only thing that had little taste, little filling. Service was excellent, water was always full. Warm and low lit environment great for a quiet dinner or date.
During my recent visit to Galway, I had the pleasure of dining at Ré Nao, a charming restaurant that combines contemporary Asian cuisine with a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. With its creative menu and welcoming ambiance, Ré Nao offers a delightful dining experience. Here's my review of the dishes I tried: Ambiance: Ré Nao has a trendy and modern vibe, with stylish decor that reflects its Asian-inspired theme. The restaurant is cozy yet spacious, with a lively atmosphere that adds to the overall dining experience. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service and making guests feel welcome. Menu and Food: Ré Nao's menu showcases a fusion of Asian flavors, and I had the opportunity to try a few standout dishes. First, the Korean Style Sticky Wings caught my attention. These wings were perfectly cooked and coated in a deliciously sticky and tangy sauce, with just the right amount of heat. The combination of flavors was exceptional, and the wings had a satisfying crispiness. They were definitely a highlight of the meal. Next, I ordered the RÉ NAO JIAMO white bao bun. This soft and fluffy steamed bun was filled with succulent and tender meat, which was bursting with flavor. The accompanying sauce added a delightful tanginess, enhancing the overall taste and texture. It was a delicious and satisfying dish that showcased the restaurant's ability to create unique and appetizing combinations. For the dumplings, I opted for the chicken dumplings. These bite-sized delights were expertly prepared, with a thin and delicate wrapper encasing the flavorful filling. The dumplings were perfectly steamed, resulting in a juicy and savory experience. The accompanying dipping sauce complemented the dumplings well, adding an extra layer of flavor. Price and Value: Ré Nao offers a good balance between quality and price. While not the most budget-friendly option, the quality of the ingredients, the skillful preparation, and the overall dining experience justify the cost. The portion sizes were reasonable, and the flavors and presentation of the dishes were top-notch.
My fiancé and I decided to have a last-minute dinner at Ré Nao while traveling to Galway, and the food was wonderful! I had the Jade Seabass and the Biang Biang Noodles with seafood and mala spicy sauce, paired with a Low Key Old Fashioned. The seabass was crispy and incredibly fresh, leaving me wanting more! The noodles were amazing, but the seafood could have used more freshness, but it was still delicious. My fiancé is vegan and she decided to go with the Pan-fried dumplings and the Biang Biang Noodles with tofu and spicy sesame dan sauce, paired with a Tempranillo/Cabernet. The dumplings were tender and bursting with flavor, and the noodles were a hit as well. The staff at Ré Nao were incredibly friendly and attentive. The drinks tasted as they should, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a cozy dinner. Overall, I will recommend Ré Nao to anyone looking for a Traditional Chinese Cuisine in the Heart of Galway!
We had some of the homemade pulled noodles and the tofu dumplings as the starter. The food was quite tasty in general, lots of veggies in the main and tender beef. The only drawback was that it was not hot, which is quite unusual for Chinese cuisine. The vegetarian dumplings could have more veggies inside as well.
For the starter I had the beef dumplings and they were only ok I expected much better. For the main I had the Nasi Goreng and it was nice I just wish there was more of the plum sauce as the dish was pretty dry. Overall it was nice but a bit expensive, a small bottle of beer is €6 which is an absolute joke.
They recently changed the menu and unfortunately my usual option is no longer available (although they kindly still prepare it for me, for now). The prices have also increased. I understand that adjustments are sometimes necessary, but the jump felt quite significant; a more gradual annual increase would have been easier to accept.
Good Ambience. Good Location near the river in Spanish Arch. But the wait time from when you order food can be long. Spinach dumplings were quite good. My husband really liked the Pork dumpling he highly recommendeds it. The Nasi Goreng was quite average. The vegan bao was also quite average. Overall, decent food with good staff.
Booked for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was busy. Noise levels were a bit too much for us (had to shout to hear each other and the staff) - music was loud, added to the chat buzz going around the restaurant. The place itself looks nice, they are new so they’re still adding to the interior. Food was okay, servings are big and they look fancier than your usual asian restos/takeaway (definitely more expensive too). Starters were GREAT, but we were a bit disappointed in 1 of the 2 mains we ordered. The sea bass didn’t seem fresh (had a bit of a smell), and for 24€ you’d expect it would be. The red braised pork belly was nice warm and we got it for takeaway due to the portion being big and it didn’t smell nice the morning after. All the staff were great, though, and very friendly and professional. Overall, I wouldn’t be rushing back here for the food or ambience.
We ordered vegetarian dumplings and one of them was filled with pork instead of tofu. They were nice and they didn't charge us for the dish. We also had the veg duck and the noodles dish with sweet & spicy sauce and saitan. I was happy to see they have a vegan menu, but it was disappointing because nothing really taste great; the noodles were basically tasteless. I didn't like them at all and I actually felt sick a couple of hours later. The place is okay and the staff is friendly, though, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant or wouldn't go back.
Positives: service was friendly and prompt. The interior design, decor and attention to detail, from branded chopsticks are on point, was very impressed! The food!!! Menu read really well! The quality of the food was disgusting!!! Absolutely disgusting!!! The meat, yuk!!! The chicken was mush, we were convinced it was bought in precooked… which dosent make sense when you can see how nice and kitted out the kitchen is!!! Beef, disgusting and tough!! Both dishes tasted completely bland!!! We barely touched our food and we went in hungry!! I’ve never in my life felt so duped by a restaurant before! How can they put so much effort into decor and produce such crap food!!! Never again!!! The positive reviews of the food must be due to a perception gap of the decor!! Do not waste your money here!! There are loads of great Asian restaurants in Galway! This place is a joke!!
The waiter got my order completely wrong, I'd asked for a Spicy Crispy Shimeji Mushroom and was served with chicken. When asked the guy who served me? It was the worst way he could have handled it.
Staff were nice and it's in a good location but the food was very poor. Everything was oily and greasy and lacking flavour. Felt more like food from a bad takeaway than a restaurant. Plenty of other good places to eat in Galway, maybe give this one a miss.
