Our server Carlee was so wonderful! Thank you for being so compassionate to your customer service today, my best friend and I had an amazing time! The food is also beyond delicious, with a variety of very unique items. We had an appetizer that had the most yummy chicken, my friend usually doesn’t like pickles but wow did he love them on our chicken! The ramen bowls are perfect in size, flavor, and spice! Allowing you to add complimentary house made sauces. We love coming here!

We did the It Takes Two deal for $70 and got the Krazy Fries in addition to that. Everything was amazing! The Krazy Fries were one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. All the drinks +the XO noodles and Shoyu chicken ramen were also very good! We will definitely be coming back

Yo it has been a minute where I can say I had a 10/10 first impression when it comes to restaurants in the valley! Terrance “Bacon” gave us the experience of a lifetime! Again , first visit…. I’m a pretty picky but open eater and I’m always willing to try all cuisines. All of the food was rich with flavor and was cooked perfectly. It may be because we can 30 minutes into opening or that’s just really how fresh the food is on a normal basis. Either way I have to give the food a BIG 9/10. And I mean that from the heart. The FOOD heart!!!!! The short rib dumplings 9/10 The low mein and orange chicken 9/10 The trio of steamed buns 10/10 Pork ramen 8/10 The fried banana fritters……. Bruh….10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ All the drinks were perfect. Based on this visit I would highly recommend. Free parking within walking distance. Plenary of seating inside and some available outdoors.

I visited The Clever Koi because I was craving a good bowl of ramen. I arrived around 6:30 pm, and while the restaurant wasn’t packed, it had a lively crowd that gave it a welcoming energy. I was seated within two minutes of walking in, which was impressive for a busy evening. Even if I had been with a group, I doubt the wait would have been long. A menu was brought to me within three minutes, and my order was taken shortly after—everything moved smoothly without feeling rushed. The space was spotless, and it was clear that management takes real pride in keeping the restaurant well maintained. My server, Eric, was professional, attentive, and genuinely helpful. I ordered the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen along with the pick-three buns. Based on Eric’s recommendation, I chose both the chicken and pork buns as well as the crispy chicken karaage thighs. The food arrived within 15 to 20 minutes, giving me time to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant had a mixed crowd and a calm vibe that made it easy to unwind. I didn’t try any cocktails, but the drinks I saw being served looked fantastic. The food itself was excellent—the ramen was flavorful and satisfying, and the buns were a standout. Eric’s service made the experience even better. Overall, The Clever Koi delivered on every level, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and a comfortable, inviting environment.

The service was above and beyond, they were never too busy to answer my questions and listen. My son worked at Clever Koi before he passed away 4 years ago. A few staff members removed him with high praise, that made our experience even more special!!!

Sophisticated dining experience with a clever menu! Food was attractive and delicious. Highlights were the lettuce wraps and beautifully plated mushroom appetizers. Fried calamari was tender and lightly flavored. Pork ramen soup was good with yummy chewy noodles & plenty of broth in a huge bowl. Wait staff was professional and helpful. Restrooms were clean & tidy. A bit pricey, but overall a fun & relaxed dining experience for our special occasion meal!

We can’t believe it took us so long to find this place! Great atmosphere & our server was excellent. Ordered the hot chicken, pork belly, & soft shell crab steamed buns to start. Phenomenal flavors & the best steamed buns we’ve ever had. The Katsu chicken sandwich w/ Thai salad was delightful & each bite was so flavorful I didn’t want it to end. We’ll definitely be coming back here again!

Walked in hungry. Left fat, dumb, and happy! The host greeted us like we were VIPs at a noodle nightclub. Our waiter? A flavor Jedi. Guided us through the menu like we were on a food spirit quest. I got the Seafood Hot Plate. That broth? Straight-up sriracha oceanic poetry. The noodles hugged my soul. The shrimp and calamari made me question every life decision I've made that didn't involve them. My girlfriend got the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen. I tasted it. Almost proposed to her and the bowl. And the buns? Lord help me. Who doesn't love some hot--steamy buns? Big, juicy, put them in my face buns. Those let me smell them before I taste them moist fluffy buns! Three pillowy pockets of perfection: Pork Belly, Hot Chicken, and Kimchi Cauliflower. Cocktails? Anime-level dramatic. Sipped one and felt emotionally prepared to fight a dragon or my work group text thread. Moody lighting, cozy vibes, sexy broth steam--it's an amazing time waiting to happen. Come for the buns. Stay for the broth. Leave fat, dumb, and happy! Highly recommend

It’s been a little over a year since we’ve dined at Clever Koi and we won’t be waiting that long to come back. We tried a few new menu items and a few of the CK staples. The Krazy fries are a MUST. They were packed with flavor and so crispy. The steamed buns are a classic, along with the pork belly ramen! We also enjoyed the chow mein with Karaage chicken and it was delicious. Also you can’t miss their happy hour cocktails! (4-6pm)

Highly recommended for delicious vegetarian food! Their Bao bread is the best appetizer for vegetarians. Mushrooms were delicious, and the sauce was out of the world! The chow-mien was delicious, perfect balance of flavors. Their cocktails were amazing too. Good service. Busy place so make reservations! Our family ranging from 8 years to 50 years really enjoyed this place! We loved the vibes of the environment & the food was really really good. I didn't get a chance to take a pic of the calamari we had because everyone ate it so fast! The food shown was delicious & the portions as you can see are big. The drinks were pretty decent. The mojito I had was more sour than anything but the margarita was decent. Over all we had a great family lunch! It was a Saturday & since there was 9 of us so we called to get a reservation. Our waiter Kazton was such a great guy! He made the experience even better.

Great food, great menu variety and selections, along with nice wine and cocktail selections. The dining area is open and a bit loud as it was a weekend and was busy. We had great recommendations, good service. Would definitely go back when in the area

Run to this spot as fast as you can! Set aside two hours for an experience with the food and drinks. Sit at the bar and enjoy their bartender Bacon. Top notch! Hats off to the chefs!

We came in today and ordered the fried mushrooms to start followed by the steak ramen and fried rice. Every bite was absolutely delicious. The quality of food and service was 10/10. Within a minute of being seated we were greeted with glasses of ice water which was wonderful considering the heat from walking from parking. Our server was great and helpful with giving recommendations for side dishes that can be ordered for my 1 year old. The aviator classic cocktail was fantastic and I felt like everything was well priced for the quality as well as the atmosphere and customer service level. We will definitely be back!

Pork ramen just hit the spot, but the kimchi steamed bun is the best stater iv had in a long time. Will for sure come back. Staff was great and very friendly. Edit: Went back for more today. Ask for spicy pork ramen. It is spicy but very good. Love this place. You can tell they make an effort to serve good food. Staff today wanted to make sure every plate served was to our satisfaction. Great job today.

Excellent service, food was fantastic and the drinks were great. The atmosphere is asian hip. The vibe is Asian Fusion and they take traditional asian food and put a new age flair on it. The Kimchi ramen is the best.

Second time to this restaurant, enjoyed our dinner here. We’re ordered Pork Ramen and XO noodles . Our waitress was attentive and welcoming. She taking care of us and make our dinner enjoyable. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. One of our place to go in Downtown Gilbert.

This place has great atmosphere and very tasty food. The calamari fries are a must try if you like calamari. They are very meaty and aren't over breaded. They also make a in house saracha sauce that had just enough heat and is loaded with flavor. If you are looking for a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere I highly recommend this place. I tried the Kimchi ramen as well and found it to be very tasty. Will be back to try more of their menu. Good job guys!

So so good. I got the spicy kimchi ramen and it was beautiful and tasted so delicious... Large portion so I took home some and even my kids were eating the leftovers. The broth by itself somehow was the most delicious thing ever. Our server was Bacon I think was his name?! Anyway, he was super helpful and friendly. Great service and atmosphere. Call ahead for a reservation, otherwise you'll wait a long time.

At first I was nervous - I don't tend to risk it too much with Asian food, but I loved every piece of dinner here. When we walked in, we were immediately seated. The staff brought waters within a minute of us sitting down. The waiter thoroughly explained the menu of options available, and provided his recommendations on the best entrées they have. The atmosphere was very clean yet unique. It definitely had an Asian zing to it. It was quiet, easy to engage in conversations with. They have indoor and outdoor seating. And we did not feel rushed. The staff kept refilling our drinks and allowing us to feel comfortable while we engaged in conversation for a while after we finished dinner. I will definitely be back and will tell friends about Clever Koi.

I don't know what took us so long to come here! Everything was delicious; from the short rib dumplings, soft shell bao, katsu sandwich, calamari fries, banana fritters with red miso, and spicy kimchi ramen. We will be coming back soon.

My wife and I were out for a meal at Clever Koi after seeing it featured on the PBS series Arizona check please in downtown Gilbert. Amazing meal would be selling it short Korean fusion fresh, flavorful and delicious. Ask for Chris as your server you won't regret it.

We loved our dinner at the Clever Koi. The cauliflower bun was my favorite appetizer and their cocktails were delicious. The Bad Man Lighter is one of the best drinks I have ever had.

I had the food delivered through Instacart. I ordered the duck potstickers, banh mi (vietnamese sandwich) and fries. The sauces that came with everything were DELICIOUS! The food was outstanding. Even the fries were amazing. Next time, I'll make the 30 minute drive. There's so much more I want to try.

R

First time here and first impression was that the atmosphere was cozy and warm with dim lights and outdoor warmer for dinner. The servers were kind and friendly, they printed out coloring pages for my kids! The food was delicious and definitely want to come back to try more off the menu. The one downside was the 35 minute wait for our food and not being checked in on during the wait. No refills on water or update on food.

M
Mike Danley

I will definitely come back. More of an Asian Fusion menu. The steam buns were amazing as was their more creative version of orange chicken. The place has a great vibe and is much easier to get seated here than the other Gilbert strip restaurants.

A fun ramen restaurant to visit with family, friends, or for a date night. We shared a Thai Salad, which for 2 people is a large 1st course, but a decent portion shared between 5 people. I ordered the Kimchi Carbonara--5 stars for the kimchi and udon. However, I thought there would be more kimchi, it was the first name of the dish, and that it would be mixed into the pasta; and the carbonara sauce was more like a box mac n cheese--I'd get the kimchi again, but not the carbonara (I've enjoyed carbonara in Italy, so this is Koi's interpretation). For guests who do not appreciate such Asian fusion options, there aren't simple options without ordering from the kids menu, or building your own bowl, and for that it seems like an overly-priced ramen house.

Clever Koi, you Koi-mplete me. Feeling koi-ful today! We ordered two trios of baos (mine with pork belly, kimchi tempura cauliflower, and the featured steamed bun of fried shrimp), duck ramen, and a golden myth cocktail. Did we over-order? We sure did! The portions here are generous. Share a trio of baos, share the ramen, but don't share your cocktails because they're seriously good. I really enjoyed all my baos and I think these baos are definitely worth ordering. Each version was interesting and delicious. I especially liked the kimchi tempura cauliflower. As for my duck ramen, as much as I like duck, I found my ramen to be super rich. It was thick, packed full of sodium, and lacked a certain balance. I mainly ordered the ramen because our waiter spoke highly of their ramen, even saying that they're known for it. I do want to rty their other noodle dishes though. All in all, I had an amazing time here! The vibes were vibin' and the interior is just completely gorgeous. In a world full of fish, be a koi.

I visited a restaurant recently and I must say that the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. However, I noticed that they don’t offer mocktails on their happy hour menu. The ramen was a bit salty but still tasty. Happy yo know this restaurant. I hope this helps for all!

I recently dined at Clever Koi in February 2024 and sampled several dishes. The dumplings / buns were a standout, and we particularly enjoyed the XO noodles, which were both surprising and delicious. The shaking beef was exceptionally juicy and flavorful. The spicy kimchi ramen with chicken broth was a hit for spice lovers. While the pork broth ramen (tonkatsu) and fried rice were decent, they didn’t stand out as much. The main course portions were generous and suitable for sharing between two people if starters are ordered. Overall, the pricing is fair for the portion sizes. The restaurant offers a trendy Asian fusion ambiance with decent food. I would definitely return, especially with a group of friends.

Great atmosphere and polite staff. We ordered several types of food. The chicken ramen was kind of bland and had to add a lot of siracha to give it something. The duck ramen, the duck was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, good flavor. Wish they had gluten free broth options. The soy sauce is way over powering flavor. The bulgogi dumplings were good. Nice flavor. We also got the Pad Se Ew, had to add chili oil because the only flavor we got was like a vinegar base. We added the bulgogi steak to it and it had a lot of salt as a crust. The steak was medium, so that was fine.

This is definitely a nice place. The cocktails were first class in quality and assortment. The service could not have been better. Our waitress was very kind, friendly, and helpful. I wasn't a huge fan of the pad Thai. Way too sweet. However the steamed buns were delicious! I highly recommend those. My wife had the fried rice and that was delicious too. It had a unique smokey flavor to it.

Casual dinning restaurant in the heart of Gilbert. Friendly service with nice ambiance. Happy available from open to 6 pm. I would recommend you to try pork belly and soft shell crab steamed buns. Pork ramen was good too. It’s a fusion style where they added kimchi to ramen and served with pork belly. I’m not very impressed with chicken katsu with Thai papaya salad. Chicken was dried. Thai salad is coleslaw with peanuts.

Came in for dinner tonight and got the Tonkatsu Ramen and Pork Belly Steamed Bun and I’ve gotta say their Chashu Pork Belly was PHENOMENAL, a little pricy for a bowl of Ramen but it was good!! The bun was nice but lacked substance but good nonetheless.

Looking for a solid happy hour? Clever Koi offers $7 cocktails and $2 off beer and wine. They have a full bar and an extensive offering of signature cocktails. I couldn’t quite get a grip on the food offerings, and ultimately found it to be a confusing mix of Americanized Asian food. It was good, but as someone who appreciates authentic Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine, the food seemed a little too dressed up. The decor and ambiance are pleasant, and the staff was super attentive at the bar. Ultimately I enjoyed the experience, and maybe a follow up visit will have me changing my mind about the food.

I liked it. The place was very clean and the service was great. I enjoyed our plates and the modern atmosphere. The only reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars is because my (Asian) gf rated the food 4/5 and Lord knows I cannot argue that.

S

I've been here a few times and it's always a great time. The steamed buns are an absolute MUST! I've tried them all and you can't go wrong with any of them. The cocktails are excellent too and the happy hour prices are really good. Bee's Knees cocktail was delicious! I found the chilled sesame noodles and lemon pepper chicken ramen both only ok...they needed more flavor. The katsu sandwich is really good though and again, the steamed buns are out of this world! Clever Koi is a great tucked away gem that I will continue to frequent over and over again.

We had dinner there this evening and it was overall a decent experience but I wouldn’t return. Short rib dumplings: 2/5 Five steamed dumplings in broth. It came out at room temperature and we had to ask the kitchen to remake it. The second version was noticeably warmer but still not as hot as it should be. I think this dish has potential if they can figure out how to serve it hot. Krazy Fries: 4/5 Came out piping hot! Crispy fries covered with pieces of pork belly. I think the garlic aioli was a bit too heavy handed. Would recommend getting it on the side to preserve the crispness of the fries and pork belly. Chow mein: 3/5 Not sure why they call it chow mein when they use Japanese yakisoba noodles. This dish was tasty but nothing special. It came out hot but the noodles were a bit overcooked. Bulgogi steak (side): 2/5 We ordered bulgogi steak as an added protein to the chow mein. Our server said it would be sliced but it’s not thinly sliced the way traditional bulgogi is. The steak was lukewarm and not very tender. It tasted nothing like bulgogi. Fried rice: 3/5 Also decent but nothing special. Came out hot which should be expected of all dishes but it seemed hit or miss here so I’m mentioning it. Orange chicken (side): 3/5 We ordered orange chicken as an added protein to the fried rice. It was four battered pieces coated in an orange glaze. It was hot but overcooked (the chicken was tough and stringy, not tender). Kids chicken karaage and French fries: 5/5 For $10, this was the best value and best executed dish of the evening. The chicken was hot and crispy and tender (not overcooked), and the French fries were very crispy and hot. I think this place is okay if you’re not seeking authentic Asian cuisine and not picky about the temperature of your food.

Mediocre, kinda over priced, Asian *inspired* food for white people. I actually really liked the pork belly steamed bun! But the ramen and Dan Dan noodles were not great. The ramen noodles had a nice texture but the broth was lacking. Rich but needed more flavor and complexity. (I tried both the chicken and pork ramen broth). The chicken meat was fine but my boyfriend said the pork meat was weird, like they deep fried it or something. Both ramens included a cold poached egg. I would’ve preferred a softboiled egg like you would usually get in ramen. The Dan Dan noodles were crazy. First of all, they were made with udon noodles, and secondly they had no Sichuan peppercorn taste at all. I only tasted peanut. Though I’m not surprised the food wasn’t great when I saw that they used udon noodles in their Dan Dan and pad see ew. Staff was nice, general vibe was clean and trendy. I didn’t love our table location which was in the middle of the floor next to the expo window, but our reservation was pretty last minute.

I was expecting to be wowed, given that its rated 4.5 stars (at time of writing this review). Atmosphere and service are very commendable. It was unfortunate that we didn't do a reservation so we ended up in the patio during the 3-digit summer heat, very unfortunate, Good thing there are misters to make our dining a little more bearable. Servers are very attentive and always on point in topping our cold drinks. For starters the steam buns are very good and flavorful as well as the deep fried mushrooms and thats whear it ends. The ramen, katsu sandwich and yakisoba is bit spicy and salty for my families liking. I thought it was just me but my whole family commented that its too salty. But if you're into spicy foods then this is a good place for you. They also make their own fresh siracha which I think is cool. Parking is abundant, there is a nearby parking structure.

We went here on a Friday night and made reservations but they weren't needed as we were able to be seated early. Its a cute and cozy place but it's also one of those places that you take a date to if you don't want to talk or enjoy screaming at each other as it's very loud in there. We ordered the loaded fries, orange chicken, and hot pot. The fries were the best part as they were crispy and full of flavor but the meat on top was way over cooked and very hard to chew. Neither of us enjoyed our main dishes as there wasn't any flavor. It felt like they forgot to season everything but looking around there were a lot of people enjoying their food so this restaurant just didn't fit our pallet. We also both ordered drinks but we couldn't tell you what they were as both were so heavy on the alcohol that's all you tasted. So the good news is they don't skimp on the alcohol here! We also kept being switched wait staff so it was hard to get anyone's attention as we didn't know who to flag down and everyone was busy attenting to their own tables. Over all I can't see us coming back unless we wanted more appetizers.

S
Steven W. Schultz Jr.

I thought the food was good but everything was a little spicy for my wife and we even ordered all the sauces on the side. We did ask what was in everything we ordered and they forgot to mention the french fries come with a slightly spicy seasoning and so does the breading on the katsu chicken. So my wife did not get to eat much. But the food we were able to eat tasted good.

B
Bryana Giddings Ortiz

The restaurant is very pretty the service was good. But honestly, the food was a disappointment. The flavor was literally a bomb if randomness. And a very gross aftertaste. The seasons were not complimenting within the same dish at all and it just was not that good. We had the short rib dumplings (8/10) Chicken miso Ramen (5/10) And the fried rice (5/10) It was not the worst but definitely don't see myself choosing again.

S
Swetha Chellappa

We had the unfortunate experience today of coming here on their Christmas party night. I understand ofcourse that they had an event planned but we had a 7:45 reservation and I wish they had called to give us a heads up that they were closing the kitchen an hour earlier than usual. Instead we were kinda rushed to order, not asked what kind of water we’d like and there was no top off for water or even asked of we’d like a straw. The service felt like an afterthought and chaotic. We don’t often get a chance to have a date night and this dampened our mood. We won’t be returning in a hurry.

This place used to be my spouse's and my favorite place to go to for food and service. But after revisiting them sometime last weekend for a date night, that changed everything. The place looked the same, great ambience, good music and seating. We got greeted well and seated proper at a booth. Very much later came our server who looked quite mean in my opinion at first to get our drinks. Then later was switched over to another server which we are glad that happened. Prior to ordering we had informed our server about peanut and mushroom allergies and asked questions how their foods were cooked and to make sure nothing was cross contaminated. Our server went and did her diligence of finding out for us. She came back and assured that nothing would be cross contamimated but with the look on her face of uncertainty. So we placed our orders for their calamari, their Pork Ramen, Trio steamed buns knowing that it would be peanut and mushroom free. Once we recieved our food on our tables. Apparently they cook everything else in the same deep frying oil and grill. It was worded "General or community oil". The fried pork belly that was in our ramen was fried in the same "community or general oil" and so were the fried calamari and pork in the steamed buns. Our server even had the audacity to tell us " eat it at your own discression". Our reactions were Like, what!? Did she really just say that? Why even place our orders in to be made? It could've saved both parties the trouble, time and money spent. Here it is, all this didn't sit right knowing the fact my spouse couldn't eat any of it while Im dining with her. And the fact I got charged for all that food that we couldn't get to eat and enjoy as a dine- in experience . The only thing that was a great experience was our drinks and the gentleman that came over and served them and the cool menu presentation. Won't be visiting this location in the future nor recommending it for others who may have allergens and who dont like walking out smelling like they been sitting in the kitchen dining. Lol. Satisfaction and pleasant experience left unfulfilled. We wefe pretty bummed about our visit.

B
Babu Giridar

The food here is super mediocre at best. They advertise as a modern Asian restaurant, so I was willing to pay a little extra for to try it. Their entrees are 18$ minimum which is slightly on the expensive side and their margaritas are just lemon juice with a splash of alcohol. The Raman noodles tasted like instant Raman noodles which completely tuned me off, and their kimchi tasted plain and bland.

M
Michelle Mattera

Horrible service. Don't know where to begin. I think our waitress forgot about us, or forgot to put our order in. Waiting an hour for our food. I ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp. It was sub par at best. I got 5 pieces of shrimp, hardly any vegetables and tons of noodles. Flavor was fine. Waitress seemed overwhelmed. The menu was different than our previous time we went and the change wasn't for the better. Won't be going back.

I
Isabel

Went on Valentine's day and it was not crowded so it was odd that after we were seated we waited 15 minutes and I had to flag down a waitress to get drinks in. The food was whatever. We ordered the short rib dumplings and they were cold and no flavor. We shared the Banh mi sandwich was was the only good item. I had the Tonkotsu ramen and the broth didn't have any flavor, the noodles were decent but no flavor. Daruma Ramen in Mesa is cheaper and better tasting. Husband had shaking beef which was mostly rice and was giving Yoshinoya vibes but the beef bowl from Yoshinoya has flavor. This place was a disappointment.
