Harry's Gillespie County Reviews
Harry’s Downtown in Fredericksburg might actually be a front for a very tasty cult, because my whole family left fully converted. I ordered the Burger of the Month, the Spicy Wrangler, and this thing pulled up to the table like it had its own theme music. A 7 oz patty dusted in house western rub, dripping with cowboy butter on a glazed bun, stacked with pepper jack, bacon, onion straws, pickled hot peppers, lettuce, and cowboy dressing – basically a rodeo where the only one getting bucked was my diet. Every bite was smoky, spicy, and messy in the best “don’t take a first date here” kind of way. Because moderation is for other people, I also rounded up the Shanghai shrimp, buffalo chicken dip, and wings. The shrimp came out hot, sticky, and full of flavor – the kind of appetizer that makes you consider “accidentally” forgetting to share. The buffalo chicken dip was molten, creamy chaos, perfect for stress‑eating your way through a basket of chips. The wings did their job like professionals: crispy skin, sauced just right, and good enough that I briefly considered ordering a second round and pretending it was “for the table.” The kids ate like tiny royalty. One got the kids burger and fries, the other the kids flatbread pizza and fries, and both plates ended up suspiciously empty with that “Can we come back here?” look only children and golden retrievers can pull off. When kids stop coloring to actually eat, you know the kitchen is doing something right. My wife went for the pork chop meal with broccoli and sweet potatoes, and it looked like the responsible, grown‑up choice… right up until I stole a bite. The pork chop was juicy, the broccoli was actually green (not the sad boiled kind), and the sweet potatoes tasted like they were auditioning to be dessert. She called it “really good”; I call it “dangerously close to me ordering it next time instead of my usual burger problem.” Service‑wise, Harry’s felt like hanging out at a friend’s place – if that friend had a full kitchen, a western spice rub obsession, and no judgment about how many appetizers you “need.” If you’re anywhere near downtown Fredericksburg and hungry enough to consider making questionable life choices, start with the Spicy Wrangler and work your way across the menu!
We often dine in downtown Fredericksburg and have passed by Harry’s Downtown many times. After meeting a manager a separate night, and after hearing good things about their burgers, we finally stopped in for Sunday lunch with the family. Service: The first impression was a little mixed. The hostess wasn’t very welcoming when we asked about a booth for our family of five (two adults and three younger kids) and didn’t seem open to exploring the option. Thankfully, our server, DeQuandre (Deq?), completely turned that around. He was friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations. We appreciated his visits as he was energetic and very hospitable, highly recommend asking for him when you visit. Food: We started with the buffalo dip. It comes with chips, but Deq was awesome and add some pita, which was a great call. The pita was slightly crisped (almost lightly fried) but still soft inside and paired perfectly with the dip, which had great flavor and good chunks of chicken. For burgers, we ordered the Spicy Wrangler (March 2026 Burger of the Month) and the Whiskey Burger. The Wrangler had a lot going on but the flavors worked well together. The Whiskey Burger was delicious, the sauce was a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but the bacon was excellent. Only critique would be the burgers were slightly underdone even for medium, but still enjoyable. The onion rings were a standout, though the breading-to-onion ratio leaned a little heavy. The fries were decent but nothing particularly great about them. Atmosphere: Casual and open, but fairly loud. Even though it wasn’t very busy for a Sunday lunch, the music and bar noise made it a little difficult at times to hear others at our table. I wouldn’t consider this a date night type atmosphere, more casual open dining. Drinks: Solid beer selection with enough variety for most tastes, plus a small cocktail menu and a selection of wines. Overall: Harry’s Downtown is a solid spot for a casual lunch or dinner. If you’re in the mood for a good burger, or consider yourself a bit of a burger enthusiast, it’s definitely worth checking out. This visit was positive enough to plan another visit to explore other delicious sounding menu items. We’ll definitely be requesting Deq when we return! Thank you!
Late post from my visit about three weeks ago, but it’s still worth sharing. Had a great experience at Harry’s Downtown. The service stood out right away. GM Dillon took the time to walk us through the menu and explain the direction they’re taking the restaurant. You can tell there’s real intention behind what they’re building. Jess was just as impressive—knowledgeable, welcoming, and confident when breaking down the dishes and overall concept. Nothing felt rushed. They made sure we understood the flavors, pairings, and what makes each item unique. It’s clear the team isn’t just maintaining the place, they’re focused on elevating it. That leadership and energy shows. Looking forward to going back and seeing how it continues to grow.
Brendan gave us an amazing experience! Best service we’ve had at Harry’s! He was super personable, even remembered our names throughout our dining experience, and was very kind and attentive! Thank you, Brendan!!!
Harry's provides exceptional food and service. I first visited in December 2025 for a celebration and came today to celebrate my daughter. The server, Jordan, was Awesome. He was kind, pleasant, professional, helpful and courteous. The co-owner, Dillan, was also Phenomenal as he's worked to create a warm, welcoming and hospitable atmosphere! Also, hats off to the chefs and ktichen staff! If you haven't tried Harry's, please go and enjoy this Incredible restaurant with its Amazing staff!
Wow, first timer but now a customer for life. Emily, our exceptional server, started with a big smile and a warm welcome. When asked for her personal recommendations were spot on, from our appetizers, Brussels sprouts and a few orders of great wings, to an amazing burger, the crispy onion rings, paired with a great local brew. The meals were amazing. Keep smiling and Thank you again Emily.
Very nice meeting place for friends or relatives meeting from opposite directions ; I was Richmond, my sister Manassas. They validate parking at the parking garage next door. We had a Reuben and a salad with a large piece of Salmon. Both were very good. Love the dog picture gallery!
Fantastic meal. Fantastic service. Great food. Highly recommend this place. Awesome food and drink selections. Right in downtown. Prime location. They also validate parking so that’s a win. Helpful staff. Tried the burgers which were cooked to perfection. Wife had the BLT which was excellent. Perfectly crispy and seasoned fries. Will definitely be eating here again. Appetizer was the pretzel bites.
Harry's is my go-watering hole in downtown Fredericksburg. The food I've had has been consistently good. The reason I go back time and again is the service. Sarah is one of the most outstanding bartenders in the area. The rest of the staff is likewise friendly and professional. The music is always phenomenal, especially when Katie is the manager on duty. The woman just knows great tunes.
My family and I go to many downtown restaurants - and this is one that I can say has really turned around! Everything from food, service, drinks, etc. has been exceptional the last 3-4 times we have gone. Management has clearly put forth significant effort to change the culture of this restaurant. Staff is always kind, helpful, and cheerful. We have never had a single issue with food, and it also comes out in an extremely timely manner (we have littles - this is a must!). Really thankful Harry’s downtown has become another one of my family’s “go to” eateries.
The service was excellent at the bar - polite, cheerful and energetic. There is plenty of seating, the drink selection is broad, and the Reuben Eggrolls were yummy. Helpful hint - park in the garage on Prince Edward Street, come drink and eat, and they will validate up to two hours of parking.
We didn't intend to have dinner here. We walked past heading to another restaurant, noted the cute logo, and kept going. After finding the wait at the intended restaurant to be much longer than we wanted to wait, we headed back the way we came. Popped in to see how long the wait was, not long at all, and we were delighted by all the cute dog pictures all over the walls. We waited outside, they had benches right by the door. When it was our turn, we got a nice booth, comfy, not too noisy spot, with a great view of the walls for my friend's hubby to look at. There were so many choices that it was hard to decide, but our server Emily, who was absolutely amazing, helped me narrow it down. Honestly, everything about the evening was fantastic. The food, the atmosphere, the service. Emily was friendly, helpful, and funny. We live nowhere near here and are already trying to plan our next trip up in a way that will make Harry's a stop next year.
Very nice people! The service was impeccable. I was greeted right away by friendly staff. They have great indoor and out door seating as well as bar seating. The beer selection is vast enough for the most discerning connoisseur! They also have wine and liquor selections too. The food is delicious and highly recommended the Reuben egg rolls that are made in house. There are TV'S for sports watching. The establishment is clean and inviting. Next time I'm downtown and looking for a spot to kick back, have great food, be around nice people and friendly atmosphere, this will be my first choice.
Stopped by Harry’s Downtown for lunch and had an awesome experience. The new ownership is clearly making a difference, in a great way. I came in for a couple beers and some good food, and they nailed it. The staff helped me pick the perfect beer, which I really appreciated. The burger was spot-on, and the new beef tallow fries were a standout, crisp, flavorful, and a noticeable upgrade from before. Healthier and tastier? Big win. Service was also on point, friendly, quick, and attentive. You can feel the positive changes already. Definitely looking forward to coming back soon!
Great experience! Our group ordered 7 different meals and all were good. Only thing not great was that the fries were pretty over salted. Our waitress was very attentive, quick service, and friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating, regular tables and bar seating. Atmosphere was not too loud. Good for families, couples, or large groups. Street parking out front, free parking garage on the end of the block. In walking distance from many other things in downtown.
Downtown Fredericksburg is quaint a very nice. It's a great place to stroll with a lot of cute shops. We discovered Harry's, a fantastic restaurant with delicious burgers and AMAZING fries. This is a casual place, qith a large bar. It has the atmosphere of a sports bar. The fries are the Bomb! They are fried in beef tallow and it sets these fries apart! I had a blackened mahi sandwich on a brioche bun with jalapeno slaw. It was perfectly prepared and had just the right amount of spice. My partner ordered the Savannah Burger medium rare. It was juicy and delicious. It was topped with pimento cheese and was super tasty. This was a great meal and we enjoyed every bite. We would definitely eat here again! It's next to a cute ice cream shop, so save room for a delish treat!
The restaurant has a nice feel to it, we liked the layout and the pictures of all of the dogs. The menu offered many options. We tried the korean wings (the sauce was good but i prefer my wings crispier) and also the reuben egg rolls (delicious). I had the Burger Royale, which was very tasty. It was cooked perfectly and the bacon jam was very tasty. The fries were kinda bland and a bit cold. I was not overly impressed but definitely try a burger and the egg rolls.
The food is OK for the price you pay, but the special was really just a burger and a chicken sandwich with (frozen) fries, and it was nothing different from a fast-food chain burger. Beer selection is vast and good. Service is fast, and servers are always kind.
I was going to spot Sedona Taphouse across the street but they were on a 45 minute wait so we decided to try this place. There's a reason why this place was empty and the other restaurant was completely full. Our waitress was young and didn't understand the beer menu at all or really any of the alcohol sections. I tried and app Ruben egg rolls and it was blah. Since it was 1/2 wings, I decide to give that a shot. I ordered the hot honey and it was way more honey and hot and the side order of fries were cold and stale. Not going back.
We have lived here since 2003 and normally avoid downtown like the plague. Limed parking, marginal over priced restaurant fare, along with the fact that Fredericksburg is drinking town with a history problem keeps us away. We were in town and opted to do lunch at Harry's due to a few of the reviews here. Very clean and wait staff attentive. Menu has a bit of everything. Appetizer order of the Ruben bites was not very good. They had a light pastry type wrap that was fried and contained some type of sweet taste. The double cheeseburger special was very good and had a charbroil taste. Fries were limp. I got an order of the sweet & spicy wings to try and they were very tough along with the coating tasting like traditional wing sauce. The non traditional shrimp and grits the wife ordered contained numerous items and a weird Marchand de Vin: Red Wine Reduction Sauce not found on traditional SC low country S&Gs. The addition of green pepper strips and andouille sausage just added to the less than original desired taste. Stick with the stone ground grits, bacon, shallots, and tomato paste to make the real thing. It will probably be another 20 years till we venture downtown for a meal. *Note this review was completed without using ridiculous undiscriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do your self a favor, trust me, or kids emojis etc.. i Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No disrespect to the employees but no one cares about the waiter/waitress/clerk names, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one. No we don't care about your allergies or the need for gluten free food. **If you see a Google review posted with just stars & no text, report it via the 3 dot selection adjacent to the review.
