Sexton Feed Mill Glen Rose Reviews
Great ambiance and lots of character. My family and I stopped in Glen Rose and had some delicious BBQ and cold beverage while watching some playoff football. Both owners and the BBQ chef treated us like family. Wish you weren't 1.5 hours away because we'd visit you all once a week! Thank you for the hospitality and GO CHIEFS!!
Sexton's is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal! If you want a spot that is unique to Glen Rose - this is the place to visit! The original feed mill has been converted in a fabulous restaurant featuring live music, pool tables, axe throwing and corn hole. We have enjoyed gatherings with large groups of family and friends on numerous occasions. Food and drinks are top quality! I highly recommend their BBQ! Some of the best!
The Mill is a great place to visit in Glen Rose! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The historic building is right on the river which makes it the perfect area to gather with friends and family!
We had such a good time listening to music and hanging out. We shot a few games of pool. Enjoyed chips and queso and a couple drinks. Everything was wonderful. The service was great! We will definitely go back again.
Great icehouse vibe with an amazing backyard area with live music. Our server was absolutely amazing. The food....not so much. They ran out of half of what we ordered and had to settle for chopped beef sandwiches that were subpar at best. Will definitely return for everything, but the food.
The service was outstanding we were a large last second type group. The staff was fast paced, courteous, respectful, and the establishment remained clean. The food was great. Definitely worth going back. Breathtaking views of the river, they also had pool and darts.
We had the pulled pork nachos last night and they were great! We have been in the past but we’re underwhelmed by the food. They have since gotten a new cook and he has revamped their food. The atmosphere is the best since it sits on the river. Good place to take kids.
Went here for lunch with the whole family and had a great time. The place is really cool and right on the river. The BBQ was really good and we all liked what we got to eat. The employees were also really nice. We will definitely go again next time we are in Glenn Rose
Amazing food, amazing environment, great service, great views. The brisket is some of the best brisket I've ever had. The blue cheese coleslaw was a great twist on standard slaw. There was also an amazing authentic Mexican menu that I wish I could have tried. Great for kids because there's lot of space to run.
It's a bar lots of fans to keep you cool, open till 11pm on Friday's, axe throwing 20 dollars for 30min. I didn't eat the food but it comes from a food truck. Reasonably priced. The tipsy mermaid was an okay drink it was a little sweet for my taste but the Irish trashcan was awesome. The bartenders know their stuff. It is a full bar and can make you anything. Live music and a jut box that's pretty cool with a huge selection of music. Very down to earth place.
First time to visit sexton mill today, my wife, my son and myself had a awesome experience. We had delicious Bbq and a few cold beers to top it off, Our server was Brittany and she is very informative, attentive, friendly and always smiling. Also we had the opportunity to meet Austin which I believe is the General Manager, He was very friendly as well . Thank you Brittany and Austin for going above and beyond to make sure everyone has a nice experience. I will definitely tell everyone I know to pay y'all a visit. My apologies to the cook and band for not mentioning earlier, cook even come by and checked on us to make sure food was to our liking. Band played a few songs before we left, they were very good as well. Wish I had gotten their name. Anyway thanks again to the staff of sexton mill for the wonderful time. Highly recommend this place to ALL. very family oriented.
Food was too pricey in my opinion. Our waitress was very sweet & attentive, may have been management or owner it seemed-the other person was very nice too & was maybe her spouse. Met some nice people there. Only wish we had gotten there earlier, they close at 11 on weekends & we only arrived 9ish. Had a great time over all.
Best variety of music is on Sunday with Boudreaux and friends!
The Sexton Mill isn’t just a bar—it’s a lifestyle. Imagine a riverside paradise where the drinks flow like gossip at a family BBQ, and the only thing stronger than the cocktails is the urge to quit your job and become a full-time barstool philosopher. I ordered an Old Fashioned and was handed a glass of smoky, bittersweet nostalgia that made me question every life choice that didn’t lead me here sooner. The staff? So friendly I almost invited them to Christmas. The view of the river made me feel like I was in a rom-com, minus the emotional baggage. 10/10 would happily lose track of time (and possibly my phone) here again.
Had BBQ pizza it was very good. Liked the way the inside was done with the picnic tables
We visited Glen Rose for late lunch at Tagore. From there they recommended Sexton Mill. Got there ordered drinks and were greeted by the owner himself. Great atmosphere, great music. Thank you for your hospitality and we will definitely be back soon.
Fun little gem right on the river. I bring my son each spring break to Dino Valley and some how have never seen this place. They had a limited menu for spring break but the pizza was awesome! The service was outstanding and the ambience was fun and laid back. We will definitely be returning!
I was there to celebrate my birthday yesterday April 13. The food was amazing. Prices were awesome extremely cold beer. All hands were on deck yesterday and Gabe was extremely five store service. The kids enjoy the view from the outside from playing corn hole, visiting the river to ask, throwing and playing pool, the owner made us feel so welcome thank you and we definitely will be back ASAP
We stopped here for food after being in the car for a couple hours. It was a great spot for our preschooler to explore the river bank and play cornhole without being confined to the chair. The pizza was amazing and the employees were so kind. The owner even stopped by for feedback about the atmosphere and food. We will definitely be back in the future!
The food. It's just amazing. Even the grilled cheese for my son was so good. Next thing, the cool factor of the place. A couple pool tables, indoor outdoor very open seating, next to the river, and even axe throwing. We just stopped in there to grab some lunch before going to Big Rocks to mess around.
The staff here were so friendly and down to earth! Our kids got to run around and have fun with the other kiddos and food was great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!
Sexton Feed Mill is a must-visit restaurant in Glen Rose! The BBQ is great, the beer is cold, and the live entertainment is always on point. The converted open-air feed mill creates a unique and fun atmosphere with a full bar. The outdoor seating area overlooking the Paluxy River is a great place to enjoy a meal and drinks. With axe throwing and pool tables available, there's something for everyone at Sexton Feed Mill. Don't miss out on this fantastic spot. Highly recommended!
Best staff, best place down by the River. Host a small business on Mondays! Great owners.
Wow. Got a tip from my hairstylist abt this place and I am ever so glad I checked it out. Food was amazing. Don't let the plastic cups and paper french fry cartons fool you. Their ribs fall off the bone, the potatoes salad is tangy goodness and the smokey queso fits the bill. A true jewel hidden behind the square. And if ya wanna throw darts or throw some axes, they got that too...
The Sexton Mill is a great place to spend your afternoon / evening ESPECIALLY when the weather is nice! Great drinks, great atmosphere, great food & great views of the river. They are family friendly, have great staff & management & the baked potatoes are my favorite thing. Highly recommend stopping in whether you are visiting Glen Rose on vacation or just driving through!
Glen Rose really needed a place for people to gather and enjoy some food and brews. Especially with the space they offer & tv’s 👍 The atmosphere is great and wallet friendly. Great job to all at Sexton Mill.
The place is amazing. The food and service was outstanding. Everything came out super fast and was delicious. We got jalapeño poppers, pickle chips, pizzas and loaded potatoes; We have no complaints! They had great live music. The owner, Trisha Sexton, was very friendly and was sweet to my children. We definitely will be visiting again. Very family friendly!
If you’re looking for a place with great vibes and even better hospitality, Sexton Mill is a must-visit! From the moment we arrived, the owner made us feel so welcome — truly one of the kindest people. The team member outside went above and beyond, bringing us water and checking in to make sure everyone was comfortable, which made the experience feel extra special. And the pizza? So good! 🍕 Fresh, flavorful, and definitely worth coming back for. You can tell this place cares about people just as much as the food. Highly recommend!
Visited about a month ago for the first time and loved every minute! The weather was finally beautiful, so we sat outside. My very busy kiddos LOVED being able to play while the grown ups just hung out. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere can't be beat. Can't wait to go back!
Cool place to hang out! Has a great vibe and it’s family friendly. The kids got to run around and play with other kids outside while mom and dad got to relax on the outdoor patio by the river.
This place was awesome!! Great view and nostalgic decor. We experienced friendly, prompt service and amazing burgers with outstanding flavor. The pizza wasn't bad, but We'll all be ordering burgers next time.
This place was the polar opposite of another spot we had just visited. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a genuine, warm welcome. The staff was upfront that they weren’t currently serving food, which we appreciated. No problem — a couple of us husbands ran out and grabbed burgers for the family while everyone else got started with drinks at Sexton Mill. Here’s where they blew us away: about halfway through our meal (food from another place, mind you), the owner herself came over to our table to apologize for not being able to serve food that day due to kitchen issues. She was incredibly kind, thanked us for being there anyway, and even took the time to chat with our kids. She made them laugh, made them feel special, and honestly turned what could’ve been a hiccup into one of the best parts of our evening. That kind of hospitality is rare — instead of excuses, we got genuine warmth and appreciation. Sexton Mill didn’t just welcome us, they made us feel valued. We’ll absolutely be back.
The food and atmosphere are great! The wait staff and owners are very friendly. 2yr update: We returned today to Sexton Mill and as usual, everything was remarkable! The owner was sitting out front greeting folks as they arrived and she is so friendly. We love to stop by this place when traveling through Glen Rose, however, today we drove an hour and a half to Glen Rose solely to eat at Sexton Mill!
OUTSTANDING barbecue bar! We started to kickoff our visit to Glen Rose at another restaurant but THEY WERE CLOSED without telling anyone online. Instead, we found our way to Sexton Mill. Everything here was so great that we'll never go back to that other place! Great beer, a fantastic Long Island Iced Tea, and Isaac made us feel right at home. If you are EVER in Glen Rose and you love barbecue, beer, and incredible loaded baked potatoes, you HAVE to try Sexton Mill!
Both kids and adults had the most fun at Sexton Mill this week! There was a limited menu but honestly that helped us decide quickly. 3 pizzas- cheese, meat lovers, supreme were delicious. Kid cheese quesadilla was the best we’ve ever eaten (we have eaten a lot over the years), potato w/brisket was so yummy. Full tummy, great beverages, awesome atmosphere, we couldn’t have asked for anything better! The kids loved sitting outside and playing while we waited. The live music was great. This place will make me want to return to Glen Rose for another visit. Six thumbs up!!
We can from out to town and I looked up this place and decided to give it a try. This place has a great, wonderful friendly people, everyone was so nice and so kind. We sat by the river and had great views, the whole entire place was just so uniquely done and has a great story and history behind it. Wonderful area for sitting outside. Our waitress Brittni was super sweet and so knowledgeable and had such a sweet smile. The bbq was amazing!! The name of the street was called Grace which I loved 😍
The Sexton Mill is a very neat spot to visit. A great location on the river accompanied with outdoor seating is what makes this unique Bar and Restaurant an excellent place to kick back, and relax. The Service is superb, the Food very delicious, many Beers on tap and a variety of Specialty Drinks. For those who wish to spice things up they have Arcade, Pool, Axe-Throwing, Cornhole, and on occasion Live Music. For families, keep in mind even with the many activities this is still a Bar through and through with the atmosphere to match, so be sure to consider this if you have young ones.
This place has a great environment, Wonderful friendly bartenders, good food and drinks. We loved it! They only thing we hated was it was so hot. It’s an open air place which sucks in the texas summer. The fans didn’t help much and the poor staff was sweating profusely and it made it hard for us to enjoy it as well being so hot. I would definitely go back when it’s cooler outside or if there’s portable ac.
The food was decent. Great location on the river. Service needs improvement. We walked in through the main door and no-one greeted us at the door. Not that we needed to be greeted but would be nice to have someone assist us with sitting. You have to walk in past the bar or near the bar to get assistance. Servers need to be attentive after sitting you and not walk away and forget about you. Will I go back? Yes.
Fun place to go with good vibes. There is a different spring break menu with less items and the pizza wasn’t completely cooked for two of our three pizzas but overall a good experience.
It's a kid-friendly bar with a few local brews and a very short but excellent menu. Service was great and we felt like an old friend visiting for the first time. Back porch space to let the kids go play near/in the river. Reasonable prices. Will definitely return when back in Glen Rose.
Great location by the river, great outdoor bar. My husband liked the ribs and said the barbecue sauce was awesome. I liked the loaded baked potato. Service was very attentive. The owner was friendly and really cares. YES, we will definitely come back!
Everything was great until the love music started. Our table decided to leave because we could no longer hear each other over the music. The BBQ and pizza are outstanding. I want to say they were on the expensive side, but what's not these days? Our view was great! The river is low but that's not their fault. I can imagine the view in the spring is amazing. My only issue was the volume of the music. It seems that it is in the restaurant handbook since most restaurants crank the volume. This was worse since it was a live musician and he cranked it more.
The brisket was pretty good. Definitely a cool little restaurant over looking the river. My only complaint was the fries.
Surprising good burger, great onion rings. Outside view is relaxing. People are friendly.
Chopped beef sandwich was fantastic. They very nicely accommodated a party of 6 adults and 4 picky kids and we were even able to move tables when the music outside became too much. Good beer selection, good kids food selections. Picking up from the food truck was hit or miss with the texting function, but everyone got hot food so I don't see any issues. Plus, free carpenters pencil!
This is a fun place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. If you have ever been to Gruene Hall in Gruene, Texas, you can expect the same experience, but add some awesome food to it. They had an open mic when we were there on a Sunday, and the talent was great! They were pretty busy, but they had outdoor and indoor seating. The service was friendly, but not the fastest in the world. We had a brisket sandwich with onion rings ($14.95) – the quantity and taste were great, but the food was just lukewarm. Their wood-fired pizza is very tasty. It’s a thin crust, so I love that! Pints of most craft beer is $5.00, so that’s a bargain. There’s a 2.9% admin fee on your check when you get it. When I asked what it was, they said it was for using a credit card. They didn’t know I was using a credit card when they brought the check to me, so pay attention to it if you are paying with cash. They'll remove the fee if you ask.
Sits by a river. Nothing fancy but welcoming. Kind of a burger place but has some other options. Great place for spring and summer. Fall would probably be beautiful.
Great food! Great service! The only down side is it’s not a “restaurant” in the traditional sense. It’s a bar with a food truck but they have waitresses for the tables on the bar side. The fried pickles are amazing! We also got the bbq brisket pizza, pepperoni pizza and the brisket sandwich. All delicious!
Went to try for the first time on a Sunday evening, anyone local would know it’s tough pickings for good food in Glen Rose on a Sunday. Just wanted to order something to go. So you walk in, it’s an old feed mill that I remember when it was still in business. Everything is pretty much to the left, food, bar, tables, staff, live music at the time I was there. Tell the girl I’m ordering to go, she gives me a menu, short and sweet too BBQ and Pizza is what they sell. 20 bucks for BBQ plate and extra side. Tells me 5-10 minutes, so I walk out to my pickup and smoke a lucky, then go back to grab my food. Well ‘to go’ got lost somewhere and my food was sitting open on the bar, flys around. I say hey I need it to go and they give me a to go box, so I then have to hand-scoop my food into my to go box. Charge professional prices, that right there should never happen. 2 folks working pretty much just watching me have to do this. I might try again in a couple years
Went as a family so atmosphere wasn’t great. However if you’re just looking for a bar or a place to hang with friends, this is a good option. We sat outside and were swarmed by flies the whole time. Would have loved to play some pool but that room was taken by several gentlemen. Our server was really nice. Once you order though they send you a text and you have to grab your own food. Definitely more of a “dive bar” type of feel.
Cool atmosphere but brisket and pulled pork looked and tasted like it was out of a crock pot. Service for a Sunday was what’s to be expected
Pizza was ok. Nothing special. Looks like they cook the crust and them put topping on. LOTS OF TOPPINGS, but to cheese to keep the toppings on.
I have come here for a beer a few times and enjoyed the bar and patio. The view of the river is great. I was working near by and suggested the food truck at Sexton Mill to multiple people lately. I decided to try it myself. I asked about the wood fired pizza, the bartender confirmed it was indeed wood fired, but regardless, I ordered a cheese pizza. Reason being, it’s my go-to method to see how good it really is. It’ll say a lot about the kitchen. The oven, the quality of ingredients and the skill of staff from the kitchen, to the pass, and to the server that handed it to me. It had passed all of the “quality check” points. It came out extra crispy, which is usually my preference. Not the case this time. It was so rough… I ate one slice. It was essentially a charred, thin, cracker-ish crust, and the sauce and cheese weren’t good enough for the simple cracker to just have been a decent vehicle for the two toppings. (I’ll eat sauce and mozz on anything any day!) I took it home with me, not only because I can’t afford or care to waste food…. But that I was forced to consume the entire thing for my next few meals, and so that I would be reminded that I would never order food from Sexton Mills kitchen, again. Unfortunately, I’ll discourage people from eating here. Man, Have a little more pride in your food, there aren’t a ton of options. Unfortunately it just isn’t worth it for me to try the food again. I don’t return food just because “I don’t like it”, I am the least picky person, but I am critical, but this was just embarrassing. I suggest, take pizza off the menu, or just do better. I’ll be back for a beer and a cold shot of tequila next to the river. This location and concept is special. If I didn’t care about Glen Rose and the food scene, I would never have written this. But I’ve been in this industry for my whole life, and I’m just sick of it being done poorly and seeing restaurants struggle. Do less, or do better. Glen Rose is worth more.
Cool place, but…food wasn’t wonderful. Not a great selection and the sodas were awful. I think their lines need to be cleaned. Beer was good and it seems like a fun place. Maybe they can step it up in the kitchen?
The location on the river is nice, plenty of outside seating. Food was over priced. Drinks were small. I ordered a barbecue sandwich, the bread was soaking wet on the bottom bun and the onion rings were cold when it arrived. Had to wait several minutes, 15 or so to be served. Took 30 mins to get our food. This is really more of a bar that has a small menu, not a restaurant. I wouldn’t go back to eat.
This restaurant was recommended by a few people in the area. Their food menu is small (not a bad thing). It consists mostly of BBQ. My in laws loved the food. I thought it was decent. The prices were a little high for my tastes. They have a game room, a patio, and a live stage. They are located on the Brazos River and have a great view of the river from the patio. I would eat here again.
My riding motorcycle riding group went here as a Ride-to-eat from the DFW area Restaurant is a converted feed mill. We arrived at 12:25 and they were able to accommodate us right away. Service was slow on handing out menus and getting drink orders and ordering our meals. You are then given a pager. Mine buzzed 1 hour later. You take your pager outside to a food truck where you pick up your order. Different strokes. I ordered the loaded Baked Potato with chopped brisket. It was very good. I heard the Potato Salad was a little too far on the dill side. Atmosphere is cool. They weren't that busy for a Saturday lunch. It was a 1 1/2 hour wait from the time I sat down till I had my meal.
The location is awesome, a really neat place near the river. Don't recommend going when it's hot outside the place is like a oven, even with the few fans going. The food was atrocious honestly, not one person at our table finished their food. I ordered the ribs that were recommended to me from the server. . The ribs looked burnt but looked like they had been set out on the counter for 3 day to dry out. They tasted like dirt and old dry herbs and had to send them back!! The sides weren't any better!! Nor the sweet tea. This place has alot of potential but not with the food truck.
The food was mediocre at best. Super expensive. Server was a newbie nbd but they make you walk all the way to the food truck to get your food. Its nice being on the river. I can see the appeal if you are out drinking with friends. However, my group was 2 small kids and 2 adult and we were very hungry. It was not even close to enough food for the price we paid. We left hungry 🙃 save your money
Saw the great reviews so was excited to try it out. Nice location on the river (that's the two stars). The rest of it was not great and we won't be going back. Our server was friendly and checked on us often but the food took forever (like 45+ minutes to come out). It's really a food truck handling orders, not a proper kitchen, and I guess they got slammed and couldn't keep up. BBQ was all just ok, but with the super long wait (without being mentioned when we ordered - after we'd been waiting a while, I did hear the bartender tell someone on the phone that the food wait was at least an hour) and the price ($10 for a brisket sandwich with no sides), it just wasn't worth it. Also, it seems to be a biker place, so if you like being interrupted by loud motorcycles revving their engines, you're in for a treat!
I liked the esthetic of the place and the staff was friendly. The meat was good but the sides were disgusting. No one at our table would eat them. Nothing comes with there burgers or sandwiches. They also put sour pickles on the burgers that really took away from the overall taste. The waitress already seemed really flustered so we decided to just pay our bill and leave. They already added the gratuity in at 20% and that was not what our experience was worth at all. We ate here the first night of our trip, the rest of our trip, all the other restaurants we went to were way better tasting and way better portions and cost us almost 40 bucks less. I hope they can get there act together because it seems like it would be a cool place to go if it had decent food and fair prices.
Sunday male bar tender is rude to new customers. My wife and I came in on a non busy Sunday afternoon. Sat directly at the bar and we were never greeted by the male bartender working today 5-11-25 @ 1:50pm. He instead served every one else. “Now one thing I don’t put up with is dawdling service” -ABM
More of a bar that happens to have food than a true restaurant. Which is fine, but was not the impression we got when we looked them up online. We went here for dinner on a Sunday and the photo is the full menu we were given, already nowhere close to what is posted online, and were told they were out of pork, sliced brisket, and potatoes. There's a qr code on the tables to order that didn't work for either of us. They didn't even give us the limited menu until I went up to the bar to ask for one. The "kitchen" is about four guys at a card table outside, which they were closing down by about 5:30. The chips included with the sandwich were plain lays and Cheetos, no one offered any options otherwise. The brisket was acceptable but nothing noteworthy. We found out later that the bar and the food providers are separate businesses and this food provider is on their first weekend at the mill, after the previous provider left suddenly. Hopefully things get better with time.
There was a big party of us, but we reserved tables in advance so they should have been prepared. Most of us waited over two hours and never even got anything to eat. The waitress just kept making excuses that they were backed up. We finally just had to get up and leave and because it was just ridiculous that we didn’t get served. I have never seen anything like it and I hope never to see anything like it again. Don’t waste your time. Go somewhere where you really get fed.
Awful! Don’t waste your time or money. Our waitress was sweet but the food and drinks were lacking. Fast food restaurants serve better. The menu looks like a redacted document. Most items served at a typical bbq restaurant were no longer being offered. The loaded nachos had very little meat on them and the chips and cheese were basically what you get when you order nachos from a concession stand. They have a great location but really need to up the game on their food and drinks.
Well we thought that it looked like an interesting place to do some. We arrived at 7 and they close at 8. We seated ourselves. Which a young gentleman advised us. We must have become invisible because no one ever acknowledged us or spoke to us or anything. So just a waste of another hour. We left without eating.
A frustrating experience. They took so long to get our food to us, we asked for it to go so we were not spending our day at the restaurant. Over an hour for a pork sandwich, chips and a baked patato. Their excuse was a huge group came in after us and they served them before us. Not how that works. We were their first so we get served first. After we left with our food we got to a park to sit and eat. The bbq sauce was spilled all over my sandwich since they didn’t put a lid on the sauce, my wife got no bbq sauce even though the waitress said they put in plenty. Also no chips at all that was supposed to come with my order. We called and the manager did refund us but that doesn’t give us our hour back, and we now have to go to another place to get food so that really cut down on our day. If you are spending the day in Glen Rose avoid this place. They take way too long to mess us up.
I wasn't going to even leave a review. But, I keep thinking about how much this place disappointed us. We are from out of town, trying to find food before our trip to fossil rim. 1. The food was overpriced for the quantity. 2. It took for ever to get our appetizer, the main meal came out before our fried pickles. 3. The server was complaining about having to close the night before and fought with the other servers about running her food. 4. Our brisket sandwiches had basically scraps for a 14$ plate. 5. Our server ignored us once she got another table. Made us go to the bar for our receipt. 6. The only good thing about this establishment is the river and outdoor seating. This was generally the worst experience I have ever had to pay 100$ for. We will never be back.
