Ben's Kosher Deli Greenvale Reviews
As a 28-year restaurant and food service veteran I cannot say enough good things about this specific location! Everything from the service, the cleanliness and camaraderie between the staff is nothing short of amazing. This is truly how all food establishments should be run. As much as I enjoy the other Ben's locations throughout Long Island this is one of my favorites by far.
I came to pick up my weekly order from Ben's Wheatley Plaza and was met with an unexpected surprise - they have completely transformed their facility into a wildlife sanctuary for endangered species! I couldn't believe my eyes and ears and immediately converted my order to dine-in. Most notably was the African Ceiling Bird, a rare species whose chirp is as beautiful as they are elusive. You may have difficulty spotting them though, as they only account for about 13% of the facility's offerings. Don't be remiss if you miss them though, as their chirps can be heard as far as the parking lot! BRAVO, Ben's! Gestures like this are what keep us coming back. If you're on the fence, there's no competition to the Pastrami on Rye nor the famous and elusive African Ceiling Bird!
Visited this Greenvale location today for lunch. Haven't been there for a few years. Food was great as always. It was nice chatting with Ronny the owner. Another nice experience.
Highly recommend if you are.in the.mood.for.a.great.sandwhich and hotdog. They now have Taco Tuesdays..gonna.have.to.try it!
Really enjoyed a beautiful dinner last night at your restaurant.I drank hot tea with honey and a wonderful salad with a scoop of delectable chopped liver. My hubby had a hot, open turkey sandwich with gravy and a potato pancake with spplesauce. He devoured every last drop and topped it off with Dr Browns black cherry soda. What a great meal with adequate service !
Great place for Kosher home made food, family oriented. We visited on Sunday, party of seven. We ordered chicken wings (delicious!), steak and mush potato, soup, cesar salad (no parmesan cheese, but very yummy home made dressing), pastrami sandwich (amazing!), chicken cutlet, home fries, burger, gulyash and bottle of kosher red wine, which was rich and flavorful. The portions are huge, two of us shared the steak and it was more than enough. All food was very satisfying, we also got their home made pickles to go. Great place for family gathering.
Old stand by...a version of the Jewish deli that used to exist in every neighborhood at one time but are disappearing. The quality is uneven but the range of foods is remarkable and old favorites that aren't available elsewhere can be found here. The waiter brings you to your table carrying bowls of pickles and cole slaw to nosh. Dr. Browns soda is on the menu and the pastrami... well, it's better than pastrami you get from the supermarket but lacks the smokey bark and juniper sweetness of the very best of its kind. Nonetheless, there is something for everyone here and most of it is at least good. Hats off for trying to keep the tradition alive.
I’ve been eating at Ben’s since 1985. It’s been getting harder and harder to find a good kosher style restaurant on the Island, the only other one worthwhile is in Lido Beach. The meats were a bit dry for my liking but tasty. I’ll continue to come back
Reliable classic deli. Sandwich sizes have shrunk, but taste is all there. Ask for "juicy" meats to avoid too lean, less tasty preparation.
The large restaurant is located in Greenvale(Long Island), New York. It is in the Wheatley Plaza shopping mall. They prepare kosher deli cuisine. Soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, platters, beverages and desserts are available. I ordered the corned beef sandwich which consisted of a generous portion of meat. The matzo ball soup was tasty with a firm matzo ball. The square knishes were fresh. The food was well-prepared. Friendly and helpful staff.
Really good food but stingy with their mustard. We order here couple of times a month while at work. Best meats in town and what is super good with their meats? Their MUSTARD! It’s a little spicy and addictive! But they are really stingy with it. We do over a $100 order and if we don’t buy extra mustard they only give you ONE small container of mustard for 4x sandwiches, a knish, 3x hot dogs and some appetizers, Ridiculous! Our boss got a sandwich to go so we just gave him the one container and used Gulden’s in the frig. We’ll gladly pay more we just didnt know we had to. I called them a couple of weeks ago to see if this was normal which they apologized and said we should have gotten more and they just did it again today… Also the people at work have mixed feelings about their service when we had to call in a couple of times. It’s still a really yummy place and we order from them a lot, we’re just a little disappointed at their overall service…
One of the last Kosher Delis on Long island. Rye bread has real caraway seeds. Pastrami not too fatty but still has flavor. Mom relied on Ben's for many a Jewish holiday. We were there for 2nd night Channukah and latkes had just right consistency and salty onion flavor. One star off for lackluster tongue Polonaise. Waitstaff attentive, art deco theme with lower East Side photos and classic quotes, "Today I am a man, Monday I return to the seventh grade."
- One of the best chicken soups I've ever had! Great for when you're sick. You have the option to add noodles or matzo ball in the soup. - I tried the grilled chicken Caesar wrap today! It's my new favorite order and comes with pickles. I've only dined in once, and mostly get take out from them, but when you dine in, you get a bucket full of pickles! Yippee! I love their half sour pickles!! - Not five stars due to the unreasonable price of some items, but the chicken soup and wraps are great.
The pastrami is the only reason for me to go there. I had the Matzah ball soup and it was very bland. I also ordered a chicken pot pie was not so great. The atmosphere was very quiet no background music just a boring place to eat in.
What happened to Ben's chicken soup? They must have changed the recipe because it now tastes like warm dishwasher. This is not just from me, others I have spoken to say the same from a variety of Ben's location! Very very disappointed...and the price was ridiculous!
Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at Ben’s. I ordered matzo ball soup and pastrami, and later that day I became very sick, which felt like food poisoning. What makes this even more concerning is that the exact same thing happened a few months ago after eating here. Getting sick twice from the same place is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about food safety and handling. I hope management takes this seriously and improves their food quality and sanitation
I’ve eaten here a few times and the food overall is ok. Nothing great but mediocre. The staff excluding behind the counter are horrible. The manager Morey Berkley was so rude and condescending for absolutely no reason. I will never eat in this location again. Grabbed a bag out of my hand followed by a rude sarcastic comment. With such a bad attitude I don’t know how he is still working with the public. Maybe he needs to reconsider his career and sit behind a desk not interacting w people. People pay money going out to eat to have a pleasant experience not to be treated with snide condescending comments. If you’re having a bad day keep it to yourself. Thanks
Ordered deli duo, on challah rolls. Received a sandwich on challah bread that was hard as a rock and stale. They offered a $5 credit after spending $25. Extremely unacceptable!! Place has gone way downhill since Ronnie retired. Will never return. Instead of serving customers with old bread they should give it to the birds and serve fresh bread. If Ronnie were more actively involved like he was when I met him in Fla he also would find this unacceptable. Lido deli in Long Beach still gives a damn about their customers. Not this Bens, that’s for sure. It starts with managers period.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this visit was frustrating from start to finish. The staff seemed disinterested and rushed. No warmth no professionalism. I placed an order including 3 deli sandwiches which one was specified to slice the corn beef very thin. It felt like minimal effect went into preparation. For the price I expected to get what I asked for, instead I received the corn beef sandwich which was thick and rubbery!! I also asked for rye bread with my two orders of matzoh ball soup, luckily I opened the bag to check and there was the two very end pieces of bread. I asked for another 2 pieces and the man doing my order asked for the two little pieces of bread back. My reply was “are you kidding me I just touched them!!!”. Does that mean they reuse bread that been touched by previous customers!! Overall it felt like the restaurant was coasting on reputation rather than delivering a worth while experience. I won’t be returning and I’d advise others to look elsewhere if they valve good food service.
