Red Lion Pub Hadrians Path Reviews
Love this pub! The food is divine! As a vege there’s always choices which is rare with traditional pub menus. The outside seats are sunny in the evening with lovely views and their 0% selection of drinks is good. A define fave of ours.
First of all, the rooms are extremely clean, probably the cleanest I've ever seen. The rooms include absolutely everything you need, different drinks, coffee machine, water, 3 towels for each person staying and a kettle. The bathroom is very clean and everything works perfectly. The beds are comfortable and warm. The view outside of the window is nice and this is located in a quiet little town. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If I am ever passing near this area I will definitely be staying here again.
A lovely one-night stay. On a cycling tour and lucky enough to be staying at this lovely establishment for our final night. My room was superb and as a dinner/drinks destination, it was faultless. The staff were all lovely and on top of their game. A word too for the locals who were ever so friendly. The Lamb hotpot was simply stunning. Beer and wine offerings were great and, considering the quality, every element of my stay was great value. I’ll certainly be returning.
Just been for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. Very generous portions with the tenderest beef that fell apart and not one, but two of the most delicious Yorkshire puddings I've ever had. We had desserts of sticky toffee pudding and fruit crumble and custard. All home made and again delicious and plentiful. Great service and very reasonable priced. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Sue ensured we had a fabulous time for my mum’s 87th birthday, made an extra effort for all 10 of us. The private room was brilliant for the occasion. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Would thoroughly recommend.
An absolute gem. The Red Lion is a beautiful place to stay, the food is excellent and everywhere is spotlessly clean. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here to anyone, with the best hosts.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Red Lion. The selection on the menu was incredible, everything we loved. Andy's food was prepared and served to a high standard and it was delicious, particularly his game pie, which was out of this world. Thank you for making our night so special, it was fantastic.
5 lads aged between 25-86 had a night here whilst racing at Hexham. How lucky were we? Fabulous hosts, comfortable warm rooms with everything you need from coffee pods to ironing board. Cosy bar area with a warm welcome, great beer and pork scratchings!!! Food was excellent, steaks x3 cooked to different preferences, spot on. Meat pie to dies for. We shall definitely be going back, feel like it’s our local.. (I wish)
Been here several times now. The atmosphere is warm friendly. Sat down for a meal not so long ago & the food was very good & was hot when served too. Would highly recommend this little pub to friends & family.
Had dinner here last week and it was one of the top meals we had on our two week holiday. The service was excellent, very friendly landlord and the food was exceptional. Lovely mackerel starter with rhubarb and ginger beer followed by a huge steak and ale pie with a beautiful rich sauce and seasonal vegetables. A great selection of ales and a lovely atmosphere in the dining room and bar.
This place is a hidden gem in the heart of Northumberland. Situated in a beautiful unspoiled village, it offers surprisingly good food. Like excellent food. They also do decent beers. Pop in on you travels, very well worth the visit.
We stayed recently for 2 nights, very comfortable, beautifully decorated rooms with everything you need. Staff are all very friendly. Food is amazing
Excellent food. Comfy and clean rooms, a warm welcome. A real credit to the couple who run it.
Went for evening meal. Excellent food, great beer and lovely staff. Reasonable prices. Bit difficult finding parking.
My husband, daughter and I stopped here for lunch on our way to Hadrian's Wall. All of us agreed that our meals were absolutely delicious and of outstanding quality. I had the steak and ale pie which was amazing! I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had. Large succulent pieces of steak, rich and flavoursome gravy with a puff pastry top. My husband is a big fan of lamb so went for the hotpot. The minted gravy completely elevated what was already top notch! The kids' fish fingers and chips were more 'fish bites' which our daughter preferred. Again cooked to perfection. The location is simply stunning. Wonderful views in a serene location. Top service from the lovely owner as well outstanding food. Thank you!
had Sunday lunch here today for the first time and it won't be the last. The staff make you feel so welcome, it's a lovely proper pub and most importantly the food was absolutely perfect one of the best cooked lunches I've ever had and two (great)Yorkshire puddings had to be a bonus! Sticky toffee pudding is great too and my cousin had the crumble which he said was fantastic. We will definitely be back. perfect location for us as my cousin lives in Carlisle and I live in Newcastle so halfway for us, hoping to make it our new regular meeting place .
Stayed for 2 nights in this lovely pub whilst I was visiting my daughter. Room was great. Very clean and great facilities. Lovely comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom products were top quality.
I cannot recommend The Red Lion enough, it is perfectly situated about 10 minutes drive from Hexham in the peaceful village of Newbrough and has a plethora of attractions within a short distance: Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum , the Sill and the most spectacular sections of Hadrians wall , Solway Aviation Museum , The Museum of Classic Sci FI at Allendale and The Dark Sky Park with observatories at Keilder and Battlesteads (and much much more) . The food is amazing , the rooms are comfy and warm and the hospitality is generous. Nothing is too much bother for them and they really look after you. Highly recommended.
Last minute decision to have a night away for a couple of drinks and some food, driven past many times over the years. Over the moon we decided on the Red Lion, service was fantastic as was the atmosphere. The food was excellent and for me streets ahead of more well known venues in the area. Outstanding value for money, spotlessly clean comfortable room one of the best pubs we have stayed at, can't recommend highly enough!

The room & pub were clean. Comfortable bed and room 1 has a decent size bath along with a good shower. The meals were delicious and substantial even after a long walk on Hadrian’s Wall. A decent selection of beers awaits the thirsty traveller.

Dogs are permitted, but you may not let them leave a trace or wash them in the shower. Dog bowls are on request and are for cats (tiny). No provision for dogs but still a charge is made. Concerning fire safety, especially for the room furthest along the corridor. Fire route map was hand drawn and not near the door. We were in the noisiest room above the bar even though another (dog permitted) room was available. Simple uninspiring breakfast. Our arrival had a cold welcome. Basic room, no frills. Stay here if you have to but otherwise I'd find somewhere else.
