Bistro 42 Hoosick Falls Reviews
We were in town from Albany and on our way to Bennington for lunch when a local gentlemen, scholar, and long-haired historian suggested that we plug our hard earned dollars into the Hoosick food scene. Atop his list - Bistro 42’s food truck and restaurant. Bowing to his knowledge of the local area, we decided to keep our budget local and try out the food truck. Get anything with mushrooms here, and especially the poutine - wowza! It will not disappoint. Make sure to bring cash only, and lots of it, because this local gem deserves all your disposable income. Seriously, make it happen! And thank you to the anonymous local who shared local history and plugged us into the scene. Lovely town with fantastic people
My partner and I make a two hour round trip just to eat here. We usually come for dinner but we were excited to try the food truck and gosh, its just as good as the dinner menu! A French Chef running a food truck? Done. I'm down. Let's go, now. I can't recommend enough. Pictured is the Fromage & Mozzarella baguette sandwiches and the 3 onion glaze poutine.
We originally came up here to ski in Vermont and were looking for a late dinner. We then found this gem of a place right near our airb&b! The service, ambiance and experience was absolutely amazing! We were completely taken back by the level of kindness and effort that we received considering we stopped in 30 minutes before closing time. Expecting a quick dinner treat in Hoosick NY turned into having a three course meal feeling like we were in the south of France. The owner and chef, Dominque, definitely is passionate in what he does and takes very good care of his customers. Will definitely be back.
This was our first time visiting, and it was absolutely wonderful. The space is unique and intimate, with so much charm. The food was exceptional, the champagne exquisite, and the White Russian crafted to perfection.
Great service with very warm staff. Food is awesome with excellent presentation. Price worth the quality of the food and atmosphere. A great gem for the town. Plan to return,
I have dined several times at Bistro 42 and have always found the food exceptionally good, very fairly priced, and the staff both warm and efficient. French food is the focus. Some menu items are very traditional, such as escargots, while others have a modern twist. Recently I had the skirt steak (see photo). The steak is was cooked to my order (rare). The plate was filled with a stuffed tomato, some sauteed asparagus wrapped in crisp bacon, and potatoes dauphinoise. Everything was delicious. The sauce for the steak came in a little ceramic pot with its own spoon - a lovely touch. Even the decorated dinnerware shows the care and intention that Dom put into creating his bistro. For dessert I had a perfect creme caramel. The dining room is spotless, showcasing the wooden beams and French posters on the wall that give it a true French bistro feel. A bistro is where you find excellent food in a more casual setting than you would for fine dining, and Bistro 42 succeeds admirably. The menu changes seasonally to reflect the seasonality of the ingredients. Chef Dom is well known among Capitol Region chefs, and on an earlier visit an iconic Albany chef was enjoying dinner with his family at the next table. Now let me tell you a story that illustrates both Chef Dom's creative approach to his restaurant and his skill as a chef. A few years ago, Bistro 42 was closed on Mondays, as are most Capitol Region restaurants. One Monday evening I was at a business meeting just down the street from the bistro. As the meeting ended I mentioned how much I liked Bistro 42, while observing that, as it was Monday, the restaurant was closed. On a whim I turned down Classic Street on my way back to NY 7 and was surprised to see that I had been wrong - Bistro 42 was open. I swung into the parking lot (room for a dozen cars, about) directly across the street and went inside. Chef Dom had decided to open on Mondays for customers to enjoy Monday Night Football on the tv in the bar. Shortly after I walked in, two couples entered and were greeted by Dom. They had never dined there before and asked what kind of food was served. Chef Dom replied "tell me what you would like and if I have the ingredients I'll make it for you." Of course they stayed! That's Chef Dom in a nutshell - always looking for new ways to serve and delight his customers. I cannot recommend Bistro 42 highly enough. Go. Soon. And one last story. It was a Chef Dom's long-held dream to have his own restaurant. When the opportunities lined up, he dove in. His Grand Opening never happened because the Governor chose that day to order the closure of all restaurants, during the COVID crisis. So there he was, all his money invested in a restaurant he was not allowed to open. Chef Dom pivoted. He set up a food truck on the street nearby and operated it until he could finally open Bistro 42. The energy and passion it took to bring his business through Covid is evident today in every aspect of Bistro 42.
Delicious food with ample portions. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Salads, main course and desserts amazing. The atmosphere was relaxed with no tv screens.
Lovely dinner - very good and authentic French food. We loved everything we ordered. It’s very good quality even compared to the ones in NYC.
Spent a getaway weekend in Hoosick Falls and what a find! Loved it so much, I ate dinner there both nights. The food is incredible and the atmosphere charming. Of course, the wine selection is fantastic, but the old fashioned was incredibly good!
Well that was the best meal we've had since we were in Italy 10 years ago. Remarkable French country cooking. I was reminded of Ratatouille, it was that good. The chef Dominique Brialy is wonderful, we had a very nice chat. The sous chef Madison is great, as is the waiter Beata. Everyone was incredibly friendly, wonderfully talented, just a total treat. Great view of the river too if you sit in the back.
Went for Sunday brunch! Ham and cheese omelette was out of this world! The best I’ve ever had by far ! Bloody Mary was a perfect complement. Service was wonderful, Angela a perfect hostess! Relaxed atmosphere made for a totally enjoyable time. Wherever you are, it’s worth the trip here! Can’t wait to come back for dinner!! I
Our steak frites were very tender, flavourful, and cooked perfectly. The frites were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Excellent.
Celebrated my birthday here with the coquille st jacques, a nice pinot, then key lime pie. It was a lovely atmosphere and the food was simply fantastic!
Bistro 42 continues to exceed our expectations with its exquisite dishes and cosy ambiance. Dominique's menu of French specialities delights and surprises us with each visit, consistently prepared in the time-honored tradition of French culinary artistry using high-quality ingredients. The cosy decor and soft lighting creates an intimate atmosphere, transporting diners to a French villa. Every detail, from the carefully arranged tables to the attentive service, contributes to a delightful dining experience. Bistro 42 is a must-visit for those craving an authentic taste of France in a warm and inviting setting.

This was an unplanned treat. We were staying locally at an AirBNB on our way to Maine. We had passed this gem along the way and decided to give it a go after having read the reviews. Chef was extremely personable and accommodating to a gluten allergy. Everything way outstanding. Right up there with other French restaurants that I've been to in West Palm Beach and Worth Avenue. Who knew such an amazing gem was hidden here. Well worth a visit.
Our friends took us there for the first time last night. I did not know that there was a French Cuisine restaurant in Hoosick Falls! The food was absolutely sublime. The flavors just popped! I highly suggest it and it will definately be a place we return to
Amazing food and service! We have been talking about this place for quite some time. We do dinner every Friday night with another couple and finally decided to make a reservation. Right away we were pleased. Clean, friendly and warm environment. Full bar, appetizers, entrees and desert were fantastic. Best meal in the capital district by far. We will be back! Cant believe we waited so long to get this place in our radar.
This place is a little local treasure. Every time I visit the area Bistro 42 is my favorite n dinner spot. I used to go into Vermont to dine at some of their famous Inn’s. But Bistro is actually better food, better priced and not in the least pretentious. The owner always greets us warmly. Troy has always been our server and he is so helpful. Put this restaurant on your must visit list. Pro tip: ask to be seated in the rear of the restaurant and you’ll be overlooking a charming set of woods and creek. Second pro tip: the Escargot! Perfection and each one is topped with a round of puff pastry. Nice wine selection and they make great cocktails. I love this place.
The food was amazing. Staff were amazing. Troy, our server, was so kind and helpful and very funny! The chef really has something amazing here. I highly recommend

This was by far the best restaurant we’ve ever had dinner at. The service was something I’ve never experienced ever, the food was amazing, and the restaurant itself was just such a beautiful atmosphere! We can’t wait to come back!! Glad to have found this place!

Bistro 42 Hoosick Falls NY Serves slow at the start. He made a top shelf from scratch margarita that was overly sour and strong. It is hard to get a margarita perfect from scratch. I have only had one even do it. I had to ask for it to be lightened up so i could drink it. He never asked if i wanted another drink. I had to ask for a water. I loved the fact that him came over and set up the table with the silverware that i needed for what i ordered. Shrimp cocktail great presentation. Sauce is different not like a cocktail sauce I have ever had. Creamy very mild cocktail sauce. I really like it just needed a little more zip to it (Horseradish) Santee potatoes great taste but a little on the saggy side. Brussels sprouts haven't changed, not a big fan but i think it could use a sauce. The steak was cooked just right. Good taste but not a lot of seasoning. Ended with Crème brûlée. I personal never had this. I don't think i will ever get it again. The sugar crust on top had a sour bitter taste. The strawberry was the best flavor in the whole dish. The whole atmosphere, presentation of the food and the professionalism of the service was top notch 4 stars. Price was $$$ but was reasonably for the times. Parking not much of any. The window needed to be cleaned, had dead flies on it. The bar table was wobbly. The little things that could be fixed easily 2*.
