This place is a diamond in the rough! Such great quality food, tastes absolutely phenomenal, decor inside is so cozy and welcoming. Waiters and owners are very nice answering our questions about the food. My favorite dish is the Shrimp Fried Rice so flavorful, savory, and of course delicious. The Yaki Soba with chicken was as very good. Very earthly, smooth texture made from buckweed. Cheesecake was sweet with cherry and caramel drizzle. First time trying tempura ice cream. Loved it. Mine came with vanilla bean ice cream inside. The combination of the crunchy tempura shell with the sweet ice cream was so good. 10/10 🤩

Most sushi places want to present themselves as upscale and maybe somewhat unapproachable to the average customer. Asahi comes across just the opposite: Down-to-earth, friendly, and welcoming. I actually went there for the sushi but at the very last second I saw teriyaki salmon and called the audible. PERFECTION! Could easily pitch bite-sized pieces with chopsticks.

Amazing food - easily my favorite sushi place. Really creative plates and wonderful staff. During the rodeo, don't be tricked by scammers trying to sell you parking in the lot - it's free.

Very quiet little spot with a delicious shaggy roll. We had 2 people and were in and out in 20 minutes right before TNF kickoff!

Incredible dinner last night with my son and granddaughter . The server was incredible and food so delicious . This was my son’s favorite restaurant when he was in medical school and always loves to return when visiting Houston . Bonus this visit as he got to bring his 2 year daughter who loved the miso soup and chicken fried rice. 😀

First time here and it was amazing. We got appetizers of shrimp and vegetable tempura with gyozas and it was delicious. We also got the Oklahoma roll and Boston roll which both were amazing, Oklahoma roll was my favorite and definitely recommend. I will be coming back.

Hidden gem! The food was fresh and delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. We had the Tennessee Roll, edamame, and chicken fried rice — all excellent. Service was friendly and quick, and the ambience was nice and not too loud. Definitely a 5/5, highly recommend!

I used to come her when in worked in the medical center back 2019 and the food is still yummy to this day. The ambiance of Asahi feels like you arrived at a relatives house for a home cooked, comfort meal. My go to lunch order is miso soup, Crunchy roll, and Rock N Roll (added cream cheese).

The sushi was delicious! Great flavor combinations! I've tried several sushi places in the greater Houston area, amd this has been the best!

If you're coming to the NRG stadium for an event, Asahi is a MUST. The Lee family owned restaurant is casual in atmosphere but, nothing casual about the food. Quality Japanese food. Well priced, fresh and overall EXCELLENT. When in Houston, we will definitely be back. Bravo Asahi!!

I love this mom and pop sushi restaurant! I’ve been in this area for the past 9 years and Asahi always hits the spot when I need that quick sushi fix. Whether I dine in or order take out, I’m always satisfied with the quality and price.

From sitting down to walking out—24 minutes for lunch. There was only a table of four in there and I feel they definitely took care of me as I was on a very tight timed schedule. I ordered the $10.95 two hand rolls and three piece sushi. It comes with either miso soup or salad. Bowl cold, so soup doesn’t burn you—the perfect temperature to start eating right away. The chef worked fast and I wasn’t waiting long for anything. I quickly inhaled, paid and left. They were all so kind and friendly. I hear it’s slammed at lunch - luckily the special goes until 2:30 pm.

If I could give more stars I would. It was our first time here walking in on a whim and the service was amazing, our server didn’t skip a beat and was super inviting. My husband couldn’t get enough of the mushroom soup and the Spicy chicken and rice bowl. We sat at the bar and talked to the sushi master, it was super fresh and tasty. We had the Nemo Roll, Tennessee Roll, and The Firecracker Roll. For dessert we got the mango mochi and it was so good. This place is 100% on the favorites list and we’ll be spreading the word.

The place is not that big, but you’ll get seated fast. It is also SUPER packed at lunchtime so try to get there fast. I am not really a sushi person but I came here and the sushi was REALLY GOOD! I ordered the Shumai was a appetizer. It’s like a dumpling with shrimp inside. That was really good. I also ordered The Bomb and The Spider Dragon as my sushi. Those were really tasty too! I do not know which is which in the picture, but they were both really good. They were also fried, which I liked a lot.

First time visiting this place. It has a cozy local neighborhood feel. We arrived right before the lunch rush. Within 10 minutes the place was 90% full. We sat at the Sushi Bar and were delighted and amazed at watching the two Sushi chef's knock out some sushi dishes. They prepared sushi plates faster than I have ever witnessed. We had extremely fast, accurate and friendly service. We tried the Miso soup, the Kani salad, the Washington Roll, Asahi Roll and the Fire Cracker roll. We requested "light rice" on all the rolls (easier to fit each piece in the mouth, versus popular oversized rolls) and they were perfectly sized. The pepper tuna was fantastic. Everything we tried was excellent including the service, food temperature, portion size and price. We will definitely be back when we are in the area.

Asahi sushi has to very easily be our go to spot for sushi in Houston. They are very conveniently located right next to NRG. First time my wife and I came here, we fell in love with the ambiance immediately. It's a smaller space, so if you have a fear of eating next to strangers that are almost an arms length away from you, might not be for you. But for me, the small space allows for a very familiar and friends-amongst-strangers vibe. The sushi always tastes great and my wallet is always thankful by the time we leave, and we order more than just one entree each. Happy hour almost all the time. A wide variety of fish and rolls to choose from. Wait staff could not be any friendlier. I have absolutely no complaints about this establishment, and my wife and I will continue to frequent this sushi joint regularly, as they have never disappointed before.

Great customer service. I got fried calamari, Minnesota and Missouri rolls to go. Minnesotta roll was really good, everything else not so much (batter was pretty bland) I will stay away from their fried options from now on.

3 stars since I was a bit surprised by how small the space is. I don't like feeling so close to my neighbors. I ordered the Chicken Katsu and was surprised to be served with BBQ sauce... our server Carla was very nice and did an impeccable job with all the customers.

I came after work and the sushi was fair. We ordered a slew of things on the happier hour menu and a sushi roll. Happy hour menu was pretty cheap with great value. The drinks are good to. You can get 3$ sake and 5$ wine. 1. Fried calamari- this was really good. Calamari was crispy and well battered. The dipping sauce was sweet and savory. Definitely recommend 2. Stuffed jalepenos- this was ok. I was not a fan of the artificial crab used as stuffing 3. Stuffed mushrooms- probably my least favorite thing. Just didn't hit the spot 4. Fried chicken- skin was a little underdone but the sauce was really good (sweet and savory variety) it also came to 3$ which is like a dollar a buck 5. Asahi roll- is has shrimp tempura and I think sushi on top. It was good, nothing especial. 6. The lychee sake was very good Service was prompt and it was clean. there is plentiful parking. Overall, a fair experience. If you're looking for a quick lunch or dinner after work in med center, it's a good choice

I did the lunch katsudon bowl. It was small, but it's only 9.50, so it is what it is. However, I don't recommend the lunch katsudon. I think the chicken had been boiled before being fried. The chicken was almost rubbery and the texture was very off. It looked very different from the picture I saw in one of their reviews

The food here was okay, nothing particularly memorable, but it satisfied the craving for Japanese cuisine. Service was decent, and the atmosphere inside was fine. Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the parking lot. The moment I stepped out of my car, there was a strong, unpleasant odor that smelled like urine. It really set a negative tone before even walking into the restaurant. First impressions matter, and this kind of environment takes away from the dining experience. Overall, while the food was passable, the lack of cleanliness and upkeep outside makes it hard to recommend. If management addressed the parking lot issue, it would make a big difference in how customers perceive the restaurant.
