Cecil's Pub Houston Reviews
This is a Gem of a local pub, great beer, Jay was a great host and the prices of the beer was reasonable. Highly recommended.
Plenty of space!!! Great service and drinks!!
Great little neighborhood spot (new location apparently but same staff / regulars)
They don't have food. Besides thetm the vibe is great. ☺️
If your looking for a nice welcoming bar come to Cecil's pub. They have nice cozy felling in the inside with couches, chairs and of course barstools. With a few pool tables , dart's, TV's outside for the playoffs. And you won't break the bank either.
Favorite bar in Houston. The decor keeps the posh ppl out which is nice when you want to have a few drinks without snobs. 👍🏾👍🏾 Prices are always great and drinks are strong.
Bill Owns? Cares dearly about Cecil's Pub (Tavern? Receipt says Tavern, sign says Pub) (drunk me apologizes dearly for puzzle, must make protein and lipid rich meal to sober) and already amiable acquaintance. Tip minimum 33% for me for exceptional service & hosting pool tourney. Had conversation during tending regardless of Thursday being surprisingly busy. Great people to meet. Hole in the wall place. Receipt says 600 W. Gray, leave pretentions at the door (before that even when, not if, Bill is there) and just talk. With people. Actual, normal people. Enjoy yourself. I admitted to playing just 4 games of pool before the tourney and was welcomed. I realize that I have gone on a rant. Great place for beer and popular? Traditional? Standard? Normal cocktails. To add to the beer. I will be coming back. Regularly. Also, bottle of premium quality liquor without paying for brand? ~40$. Getting "liquored up" while with friends AND paying for tab of the guy that beat you in pool? "$35.18". I don't know why I put that in quotes. Guess citing directly? Great place, comin g back . Edit: I don't know why I made this edit. Just drunk. Edit during edit: Food places nearby, get early into night in case of closing hours. Can bring into bar. Excellent atmophere with friendly bar staff. There are pool tables, no food though. Best thing are the drink prices! Top shelf booze under $6 is an absolute bargain! They also have Sunday hours! Can't wait to visit Cecil's for happy hour where I'm told drinks are under $4!
New space for the bar (it moved locations) is a step up, good service, reasonable prices, no food available.
The photos are misleading. Steaks are not served here, just drinks.
Really nice bar. Not a pub... no food. But really friendly bar tender and seemed like a nice crowd.
Been one of my favorites since October 2016. Great atmosphere, darts, pool tables, and best of all: $1 & $2 ritas on Mondays and Wednesdays. No more margarita Fridays for now though. Definitely a chill spot to unwind after a day's work or just to celebrate and hang out. Always cool people hanging. November 2024 Edit: Gonna miss this place!! The margs were legit, prices were right, and this place was literally like home. No matter which walks of life came through here, everyone felt like family! Thank you Cecil’s for all the great memories.
Sometimes a 4 star is actually a 5 star. This is where I go when I wanna isolate and not talk to anyone, but the few times that I have made friends there, it's been awesome. Lots of interesting folks here that have contributed to plenty of memorable interactions
This place is pretty rad. Cheap beer for this neighborhood! You can get a PBR tall boy here for under $4 before tip. Frances the bartender took good care of me. Clean restroom.
Really chill pub with low light ambiance and atmosphere which is my favorite. Good drinks. 2 pool tables. Friendly bar tender. Good outdoor seating too which is nice. It’s a breath of fresh air to have a down-to-Earth bar in the midst of college-kid-central Midtown.
I've found drink prices reasonable, have had special nights in past, tends to get crowded a bit. Usual group of people I've seen for years present. It's just nice and chill, the patio seating allows you to kind of get away and smoke as well. They do a great job coming through, grabbing glasses off tables. Pinks will deliver here as well, so even though there's not a food selection, pizza is nearby and often the tamale lady comes through on week nights. Bathrooms have been hit or miss over the years, but it's a plumbing thing, and now, with the snazzy new homes going in behind it, the city has assumed some responsibility. Don't use parking lot if your vehicle sits low.
Male bartender always has an attitude and expects to be tipped and tipped well gives you bad service if you don’t even if he’s having a bad day and you tip expect to not have your drinks made if you want them a certain way. I wouldn’t doubt he’s the reason this place is closing down.
AVOID THIS PLACE. I went there on Saturday, and the place was empty except for two older men at the bar who were speaking with the bartender. My wife, I, and two friends went to this bar to play pool and have a few drinks. We were in there for about 10 minutes when one of the men at the bar started yelling out obscenities and threatening us. We were obviously caught off guard as this was entirely unprovoked and unwarranted. None of our party spoke with or knew these people. The bartender heard everything and did nothing. I do not recommend this place to anyone, and if you do go, be prepared to defend yourself.
