We came for my sisters birthday last night and what a treat! I’m currently visiting from Europe and was happy my sister picked a steak house as I’ve missed a good steak. We were seated at the chefs table which was very entertaining to watch how they cook/grill everything! For our appetizer we ordered the house salad and tuna tartar. I know, house salad sounds boring but WOW! Everything was amazing and sooo flavorful! The mixture of different greens with the herbs made for a refreshing salad. The tuna tartar was great with a smoky Asian flavor. The portion was perfect to split between three adults. We order the aged New York strip (16oz). The steak was huge! Was cooked perfectly! Very juicy, flavor was on point, and was just soooo delicious. We order the Israeli salad, truffle fries and grilled asparagus. The Israeli salad was great! There was a hidden… hummus?, at the bottom and the dressing was perfect and not too over powered with the lemon juice. The asparagus was cooked nicely and had a perfect crunch. The fries were for my nephew and he enjoyed it! If you do not eat red meat, the Morracan fish is a must! Save the free bread that comes with the meal to savor every bite of the fish! The service was perfect and Kimberly was very attentive and a very sweet waitress. You can tell they take good care of their employees cause everyone was soo happy! Lastly, here is the added treat! Literally! I was a little embarrassed to ask for my little piece of steak to go but I wanted it for my little pup. So I mentioned I will take my small piece of left over home and quickly blurted it’s for my dog. She asked me for my pets name and made small talk. To my surprise when she brought the bag out of left overs, it had my pups name! I LOVED IT and totally made my night! Would definitely recommend this place!!
Excellence 💫 The atmosphere, the atmosphere, the music, the staff and the vibe. Wow, wow and wow. Was on my list to go and try and was worth it so much. The bread platter (complimentary) is just amazing! I also ordered the scallops. OMG so a great mixture. Loved it and for sure will come back. Make sure to have reservations for dinner.
We had a wonderful time at Doris Metropolitan. Our steaks were so tasty (American Wagyu and bone-in strip). The tomato salad, truffle fries, root puree, and asparagus were delicious. Their bread is AWESOME. The service was extremely professional, and our dessert (brulee to go) was very pretty.
I finally moved back to Houston and had to visit one of my favorite restaurants! I was so thrilled to see the quality of the food and service was still consistent and high quality! The bartender, Maggie gave me great recommendations for the menu and made the bar area a fun and social environment! Can’t wait to go back again soon! The butchers cut steak and the chocolate whiskey dessert were excellent!
Incredible service. Actually, the best service in Houston. The food is great, really well done, but the service is what makes this place special. I worked in restaurants for 8 years, the amount of discipline it takes to perform like this team, in a busy place with this level of food quality and diversity is quite impressive. I'd give six stars if I could.
We had a lovely first experience. The bread service is top notch with three freshly baked options, three different butters and an oil. We had the octopus, which was great, plus the 21 day aged ribeye (MR), lamb chops, polenta and the Israeli dessert. We felt well taken care of and will be back.
Overall a fantastic experience! Even though we arrived later in the evening, we had excellent service throughout. This place is honestly a hidden gym and well worth the visit. I appreciated their attention to detail and ability to accurately describe the items on the menu. We did not order beverages so I cannot comment on the price or variety but I assume they have a number of options that pair well with their food. The price point is what you would expect from comparable high end steakhouses. I left completely satisfied and look forward to returning next time that I am in town!
When it’s a special date night, go big, or go home! This establishment is a home run. Some things to remember are: 1) Make reservations (Resy). 2) Valet parking is complimentary, but bring cash for tips. 3) They use the Toast system for payments processing, so you can pay with Apple Pay at the table. 4) Enjoy! The food, service, and ambiance are what one would expect for a top tier steakhouse.
If you’re looking for a happy hour spot, this is it! My friend and I were looking for a quick glass of wine after a long week. We decided to try Doris Metropolitan, as the reviews were all really good and they have happy hour until 7 PM. That is a bonus. I had the burger and fries for $16 and a happy hour wine, which is normally never any good at all, was a beautiful Bordeaux for $10. The poodle crumb that we had for dessert was not the traditional. It had a caramel base with the chocolate on top. I can’t wait to go back here and have dinner in the main dining room.
I visited this lovely restaurant a few months ago for the first time and I was very much impressed. This is a very popular place and reservations are a must. In fact, during a week day, we could only get a spot at the bar. No problem, the bartender is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting at the bar watching the action. The food was delicious. Expertly prepared and beautifully presented. A must visit.
Update 8/11/24 Another visit to Doris. One of so many, many wonderful moments spent here. The food remains excellent! The cocktails also continue to impress. I visited this place with a friend that praised the food and service. Fantastic!! An unexpected surprise. Very swanky decor. Food was superb! Truly excellent food. Staff were friendly, confident and skilled. Cocktails were beautifully crafted and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to visit again to try more items on the menu. Update 8/8/20 We have all fallen in love with this establishment. So many wonderful memories and experiences have now been enjoyed here. Love everything about this place. Just wow! You need to experience the amazing culinary delights and the perfectly crafted cocktails. All staff are so accommodating and truly add to the experience as well.
If you're looking for a fancier steak and a great dining experience, this is definitely the place to go. The steak: Delicious! Though the first New York strip I ordered here was a bit overcooked (medium rare instead of rare), the flavors were great. The meat was juicy and tender, and they offer some salt and pepper on the side so you can season it to taste. Though the steak doesn't have the perfect sear that I want on the outside, it's still one of the best steaks I have had in Houston. This is made better by my second visit where the steak was properly made rare. The other food: The first time I came here, I was told that they have the best bread service in Houston, and I was not disappointed. With three types of bread, three types of butter, and an olive oil based dip, it's hard to think of another restaurant that even comes close. The bread is warm and soft and pairs nicely with the available additions. For sides and appetizers, my favorites have been the mushrooms, beetroot, and tuna tartare ate all fantastic. The restaurant: It has a very clean, modern feel that I quite enjoy. I like how as a more expensive restaurant, the staff looks and acts very professionally. Some other steakhouses lean a bit too casual sometimes. The staff: Every person I've interacted with here has been helpful and friendly. They explain all of the menu items if needed. When the sun was reflecting on a person's face, they did their best to make adjustments and prevent that. Simply great service.
Great open air restaurant with a delicious menu. Everything is incredibly well executed, from the scratch baked breads to the dry aged steaks. It is a bit on the pricey side for the food, but the quality of service showcases why you pay the premium. The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. You can tell the attention to detail they take with this place.
Food was pretty good the environment was not ideal dinner environment due to the overcrowded and the space feel very tight. The oysters were great. The roots puree was the best I’ve had. Octopus great flavor. Now the steak 🥩 was served with the seasoning on the side as it seems because when added to the too of the steak it was great. Over all I’d recommend it for the experience however I don’t believe it’s place for frequent visit.
My gosh, this was one of the best dinners I've ever had in my entire life! The food is on an entirely different level and the flavors are absolutely spectacular. I had never been to such a high-end restaurant before, but decided to splurge and it was 1000% worth it. It is an experience in and of itself. The drink menu is superb and their cocktails are excellent. They have a full bar, so they can always throw together whatever your heart desires. Their appetizers are extremely succulent and much more filling than you might expect. Even the bread is out of this world! The steaks and cuts they have are just to die for. They're flavorful, rich, and filling and are topped with some of the most interesting ingredients, but it really does blend very well. The staff is fantastic as well. Our waiter, Doug, was very, very helpful and friendly. He provided some great recommendations, described the various dishes in great details, and will certainly help you navigate the menu. One of the managers, Tommy, was very kind and receptive to the compliments and questions we had. On top of that, other staffmembers regularly came by to check on us or offer to take our plates. We felt very welcomed from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Overall, this restaurant is one of a kind and if you're able to make it happen, I promise you that it will be one of the tastiest nights of your life!!
Not a steakhouse person but when I do a steakhouse, it has to be the top quality and Doris sure delivered. Amazing service. The quality of the food was unforgettable. This place is definitely not for a casual date. Very intimate space. If I am in the mood for steak, I’ll definitely come back.
Came to Doris for a company Christmas dinner and from the moment you walk in, it’s amazing. More importantly the food is beyond this world. I love mediterranean flavor so their take on it is amazing. Everything was prepared so well and the sides were great. I recommend the carrots no matter what as well as the fattoush salad they offer. Amazing steak flavor and the staff was all friendly and informative about what you’re eating. Needless to say it was a wonderful experience and meal; i would come back again on my own to enjoy the other dishes they have to offer.
Dinner with a colleague, Doris showed out! The service was great, from the parking lot to the bar, and top notch once seated, we were never left waiting, wanting, or needing. I met the owner, he is very pleasant and welcoming. Food was great! The pictures tell the story. Definitely worth visiting!
Doris Metropolitan is, without a doubt, the best steakhouse in Houston—and my go-to place for an unforgettable dining experience! From the moment you step in, the attention to detail from the entire staff, including the owner, is unparalleled. Every aspect of the service is meticulously thought out to make you feel like the most valued guest in the room. The food? Absolutely spectacular. Their steaks are beyond perfection—expertly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and served with finesse. While they’re known for their steak, don’t overlook the Moroccan fish; it’s a must-try dish that brings a delightful and unexpected twist to the menu. And let’s talk about the cocktails—crafted with such creativity and precision, each drink is a unique masterpiece that elevates the entire experience. Doris Metropolitan combines impeccable service, world-class food, and an inviting atmosphere into a dining experience that’s simply unmatched. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a night out, this place never fails to deliver excellence. Thank you to the team and owner for always making every visit unforgettable!
One of the best meals we have ever had! Service was spectacular as well. It was a little cold inside for my taste and the music was really loud until another guest asked them to turn it down. Hands down make this a part of your NOLA trip. Aged bone in rib-eye and Fall off the bone.
Came here for my birthday and wasn't disappointed. Welcomed with a birthday shot then got the bread service. Bread was fresh and made daily, they give you 3 types. Definitely get the octopus appetizer as well it was the best octopus I've had After that I ordered the fall off the bone and also got the lamb chops. Fall off the bone was amazing. Ordered a dessert as well and it was super light very good way to end the night.
The service here is definitely very good. Everyone was very attentive at the tables. The breads were good but I had better. The octopus was tender, flavorful and especially the cherry tomatoes that came with the dish. The oysters were decent and probably due to the season. The tomahawk steak was surprisingly tender and well presented by the staff. The lamp chops were another good choise that we made for our dinner. They were tender, falvorful as well. We enjoyed the desserts here very much as well.
I've been going to Doris' for years, and it's a must-visit restaurant when in Houston! In fact, it's worth planning a trip to Houston just to try it out. Their food selection, style, and taste are truly unforgettable. The quality of their meat dishes is exceptional, and the appetizers are not to be missed. The atmosphere is also top-notch. I can't stress it enough - Doris' is a MUST VISIT! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Truly wonderful experience! Phenomenal service in a beautiful restaurant. Valet was effortless. Drinks were perfectly balanced. I especially loved the bread service, octopus appetizer was divine, perfectly cooked truffle fries and the falls off the bone short ribs did just that. It was huge though, so come with an appetite.
Went on a Monday for 1/2 price Wagyu and Doris’ social hour and had the BEST time! Got a seat with my husband at their beautiful bar and was lucky enough to get to know the bartenders Maggie and Tony. They are so much fun and their personalities add to your evening! The food is amazing. Food = happy nom nom nom nom! Their bread is not to be missed and the Japanese Wagyu was absolutely perfect. Debated fighting my husband with my fork for the last piece of that! I could ramble for ages about what a lovely time I had, but honestly just try it for yourself with the added bonus of great deals on Mondays :) Enjoy!
Doris Metropolitan in Houston is outstanding! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is stylish and inviting, perfect for a special night out. The steaks are phenomenal—cooked to perfection with rich, intense flavors that truly set them apart. The menu also offers an impressive variety, including creative appetizers and sides that complement the main courses beautifully. The service was impeccable; the staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, which really elevated the experience. And don’t skip the dessert! Their sweet options are just as memorable as the main courses. Overall, Doris Metropolitan is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates a top-notch dining experience in Houston. Highly recommend!
Love dining at Doris Metropolitan. The steak always come pack with flavor, tender and cook perfectly, medium rare! Of course our favorite is the tomahawk but the ribeye is amazing too. we pair our tomahawk with scallop and tiger prawn which was an excellent choice. Always leave happy and stuffed.
A five star experience at Doris! Sat at the bar for Social Hour (aka Happy Hour) and received excellent service from Tony. He made fantastic martinis and checked on us regularly to make sure we had anything we needed. The bread service is wonderful- I recommend you get it! Then we tried the tenderloins kebab and WOW that is good! Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, they have customer service at the top level. Plus we got a visit from Chef Michael and learned some history about their Wagyu, and now we can’t wait to come back to try some! Added bonus, complimentary valet is a great touch.
Doris Metropolitan is a true gem for steak lovers—and even for those who aren’t! Their selection of premium steaks is outstanding, but what makes this place even better is the variety for non-steak eaters—think perfectly seared scallops, fresh fish, and even flavorful goat chops. The sides are just as impressive: rich and earthy mushrooms, crispy Parmesan garlic fries, and beautifully caramelized Brussels sprouts. The beverage program deserves its own spotlight. The wine list is pages long, packed with premium bottles, and the range of scotch and bourbon is top-notch—you’ll have a hard time choosing just one. And the dessert? Absolute showstopper. A whiskey-dipped chocolate cake paired with charred banana—it’s indulgent, bold, and unforgettable. Enjoy it with a glass of bourbon and you’ll see why it’s the perfect ending to a special evening. Highly recommend Doris Metropolitan for an upscale dining experience with incredible food, drinks, and atmosphere.
Dropped into Doris Metropolitan for our Father’s Day dinner after loving it on a previous visit with friends, and it was every bit as stellar as I remembered. We shared an assortment of perfectly cooked steaks—each one rested and seasoned just right—alongside several appetizers that vanished almost as soon as they hit the table. The presentation is still on another level here, and the staff kept our glasses of wine and beer flowing. Service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to see us enjoying ourselves. Outstanding food, flawless hospitality, and a vibe that turns “just dinner” into a special occasion—can’t wait for the next excuse to come back.
This is the restaurant that you will never go wrong with! It is outstanding in every sense, from the Valet that greets you when you arrive, to the hostess and the staff, Doris Metropolitan. It’s the perfect restaurant in Houston. I love coming here, it’s so classy, so perfect for a date, birthday celebration, anniversary or business dinner. Everything is mouthwatering, but I’m going to reveal to you a little secret … the best two dishes you can order here are the beef tenderloin skewers, and octopus, chef kiss ! Their crafted cocktails are out of this world, and whether you sit at the bar or in the dining area, you are guaranteed an excellent experience! Make a reservation because this place is always busy. Thank me later 😉 Review #2 Never disappointed! I have done a few reviews about Doris Metropolitan, because my experience here is always the best. From beginning to end, their staff makes sure you have absolutely the best time! I will always get the Octopus dish because is unbeatable, but this time I also tried their bone marrow, one of my favorite food and it’s not always available at other places. Come here for a great time, a wonderful experience and the best food. Classy, contemporary and elegant, the perfect vibe for a date or a celebration.
Took the family out for the wife's birthday. Felipe, our server, was amazing. It is so hard to find quality service these days and this gentleman knocked it out of the park...made the meal very special. The cocktails, appetizers, steaks / mains, and desserts were all very, very good. Alex, the manager, stopped by to check on us as well. What a great evening and meal. 10 out of 10!
LOVE IN PLAIN SIGHT In a city that has unlimited food options, how for the past eight years I didn't know the perfect restaurant was right down the street? The entire experience was like a TV series that I never wanted to end. Usually, I'm dressed to impress and despite my casual appearance I was greeted like I was the most important person in the city. I was there for a quick happy hour meet up and three hours later I had to drag myself out of there. The entire team Carolina, Brandon, Gabby, and Kyle the GM made me feel like I had spent the evening in an alternate universe living like the best version of myself. AND THE FOOD! I should have started with I'm not a real drinker but the bar menu made me question what am I doing with my life. With each sip I realized I have not really lived. I wasn't hungry but shared the burger and the tuna tartar and a tear fell as I ate the last bite. I am determined to eat my way through the entire menu ASAP. If you are looking for a place to eat, drink or be merry. Doris is your place. Go, no run. Make a reservation or not, but check it out. Bon provecho.
One of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in Houston. Beautiful restaurant, great service and amazing food. Cant get much better.
Ribeye & tenderloin were delicious. Chocolate in bond dessert was AMAZING!! Staff epitomized polite professionalism. Lastly, they have a meat room! Cool!
We were referred to this location for having the best Wagyu and customer service. Not only were we blown away above and beyond our expectations Jesus our server was a true pro. He left no stone unturned and this is an understatement but Doris Metropolitan you have everything dialed in!!!
I’ve been coming here for about a decade now and have come many times over the years. Service food atmosphere is consistently good. The bartenders and servers are genuinely pleasant. If anyone ever ask me where to get a steak in the city or a good cocktail or a good cheeseboard, I always recommend Doris.
I stopped by Doris Metropolitan tonight for the first time to celebrate my birthday with a friend, and it exceeded every expectation. The service, from Brandon and B at the bar, led by Kyle the General Manager, is the epitome of true hospitality—thoughtful, genuine, and increasingly rare. From the moment we arrived, everything felt intentional yet effortless. This is what you expect when you go out to eat: exceptional service, attention to detail, and a team that truly cares about the experience. I will absolutely be coming back.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I went to Doris Metropolitan Steakhouse tonight (Friday at 8 PM) with a reservation at the bar, and it was packed—definitely a popular spot! I was craving a great steak and margarita, and this place delivered. 🍹🥩 The service was excellent—friendly, fast, and super helpful, especially since it was my first visit. The Piña Margarita was delicious, and the Butcher’s Cut steak with grilled asparagus was fantastic. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. 😋 I highly recommend Doris Metropolitan, but I’d suggest going when it’s not as busy for a more relaxed experience. If I had to mention any downsides: I’m not a fan of valet parking 🚗, I wish there were more parking options, the tables are very close together, and it gets very loud when it’s crowded.
This was my first time eating at Doris and I definitely will be back. I was first greeted by Melissa and her hostess team and taken to my table. My server Felipe offered to get me a drink or an appetizer and I ordered the nebbiolo BTG. The wine was brought to me by Alex who explained the testing notes and when I asked for an appetizer pairing, he offered the steak tartare.(Which I did order; amazing recommendation.) Afterwards, I ordered the asparagus and ribeye. The food was presented to me by Christina who explained my dish in detail. After my first couple of bites, the general manager Kyle checked in on me. I informed him that everything so far had exceeded my expectations and I was more than satisfied with my experience. I finished with the cesa brulee and it was so delicious. This definitely was a memorable experience and I am looking forward to my return.
Our server was Christina and she waited on us hand and foot. Her team never let a glass go empty. All were so kind and attentive! The food was outstanding. Everything Christina recommended was mouthwatering. We really appreciate Christina and her team. Thank y’all so much!!!!
We had a fabulous time. The customer service was top notch! It was a birthday surprise. Excellent tomahawk steak, cooked to perfection. And all the appetizers were wonderful.
Wow what can I say, this has been an amazing experience each time I’ve attended. Heder has been the best server and quite attentive. The entire staff always makes sure we feel welcomed and taken of. The food is amazing and the drinks ( Gabby & Tony) are fantastic. Thank you!
De verdad que es uno de mis restaurante favoritos lo recomiendo
Lugar tranquilo, excelentes alimentos y trato. Muy muy recomendable.
Muy buen servicio y materia prima. Vale lo que cuesta.
Excelente servicio y cortes de carne!
Best gourmet experience un houston
100% recomendado
Doris Metropolitan is a great option if you’re looking for an upscale but relaxed date-night spot in Houston. The atmosphere is polished without feeling stuffy, and the service really stands out from the moment you arrive. The parking lot is small, but valet is complimentary, which makes things easy and stress-free. We sat at the bar for happy hour, and the staff there was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We ended up having two rounds of drinks, five dishes from the happy hour menu, and two desserts, and the total came out to around $250, which felt fair for the quality and experience. Food-wise, the beef and shrimp skewers were excellent and easily the highlight of the night. You can tell this is a place that knows how to handle proteins, which makes sense given their reputation for steak. The burger was recommended to us and was good, though there’s a lot of strong competition in Houston for burgers, so it wasn’t the standout dish for us. Drink-wise, the Mexican Highball was very well done, and both desserts hit the spot. The gelato and the pistachio dessert were a perfect way to end the meal. Overall, great service, solid food, and a nice atmosphere. Definitely a strong choice for a date night or special evening out. We’d happily come back.
Absolutely a must if you like meat (especially steaks) with an amazing process and story. The breads & dips are to die for, and the main course mouth watering. I had the ribeye with asparagus and the Jerusalem Salad as sides. All pure perfection. Staff was very courteous and knowledgeable about each dish. Great atmosphere. Cannot recommend enough. Will be back!!
Beautiful build out and wonderful food. I would call it more of a steak restaurant with a mediterranean flare. The lamb chop and New York strip were delicious. The only reason they aren't getting 5 stars was my disappointment over their cocktail menu. Their bar was huge and we'll stocked. However, their cocktail menu had maybe 10 drinks. I asked for something interesting with whiskey and the staff suggested something very basic. If you're going to stock the bar as well as you did maybe curate a better cocktail menu.
Bar service for food took about an hour once seated - on a weekday. Sorry, but I don’t think any restaurant is worth that sort of wait for the bartender to acknowledge you and take your order and get your food. We only ordered from the happy hour menu. That being said, food is very good. This is a steakhouse that is located on a busy street, but there is no street noise inside. The happy hour menu is only served at the bar but you can get the full restaurant menu if you choose to sit at a table.
I took my fiancé here for his birthday! We were visiting Houston for the weekend and chose this place to have our celebration. The experience was amazing. It was my first espresso martini and I have to say it was mind-blowing how delicious it tasted! All courses were so good. To be honest, I wish I took the same meal as my fiancé (which was steak tenderloin) because that was the juiciest steaks I ever eaten. Only disappointment was that even tho I specified it was his birthday, we didn’t get any dessert with a “happy birthday”. Our server was nice enough to bring out two small drinks for the happy birthday celebration, tho! (One star deduction) But wish it was more of a celebration given by the restaurant too. Overall, the music, atmosphere, service and meals, they were all on point. Definitely recommend!!!
So I have been a little remiss in my reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one as our food and overall service was fantastic! The wife and I were running 10 minutes late for our reservation, but once we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated. Our waiter kindly introduced himself, was attentive, knowledgeable of the menu selections and recommended a vegan dish for the wife that was in her words "Fabulous ". The bread service was quite comprehensive and comprised of three different types of bread including a vegan (no butter or eggs) bread, three different types of butter and a oiI/vinaigerett mix. As for an appetizer I ordered the cheese stuffed beet which was amazingly delicious!! I also ordered the lamb and was very pleased, especially with the taste profile. My beverage of choice, the mocktail mint Mojito (I am usually the driver so I always end up on the non-alcoholic side of the drink service:)) was not to sweet nor to sour but was just right. As for the negatives, the main dishes did take a while (about 30 minutes, hence the 4 star service rating) and the cost was a bit on the expensive side, but overall we had a great experience and would definitely recommend!!
The ambiance is nice inside this mediterranean style steakhouse. The octopus was outstanding. Best dish all night. The steaks are good but overall i prefer other steakhouses in Houston. And the drink prices are expensive! $20 is the cheapest glass of red wine for 5 oz?! This is a unique experience if you like a fusion of styles and can afford it.
Had a lovely dinner at Doris! The service was very good—attentive, friendly, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. I ordered my steak medium rare; it came out a bit overcooked for my taste, but still flavorful and tender. Overall, a great experience with a welcoming atmosphere.
Had a nice dinner here. The steak was cooked well and had great flavor, and the appetizers were just as enjoyable. The atmosphere felt upscale but still comfortable, and the service was attentive throughout the meal. It’s a bit on the higher end price-wise, but overall a solid spot for a special night out.
Went to Doris with five friends for a guys’ night and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is upscale but still relaxed, and it’s a great spot for groups or a nice dinner out. I ordered the ribeye, which was cooked perfectly, and we had mushrooms, Wagyu skewer, parmesan asparagus, and truffle fries. Just a heads-up: most sides are individual portions, so plan to order your own — the fries are pretty much the only shareable option. Service was excellent, very attentive without being too much. Valet/parking was super easy, even on a busy night. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but the quality and overall experience make it worth it. I’d definitely recommend Doris for a good get-together or special night out
Cool restaurant with nice decor tucked away from s Shepherd. Wasn’t greeted by hostess stand the two just kind of stared at me. I sat at bar and wasn’t even greeted until the manager stopped by. Ate dinner with some colleagues and the food was delicious. I had rib eye my colleagues had the Moroccan fish. It was delicious! Don’t bother with desserts Very overrated. We tried Two separate items and wasn’t impressed. Drinks are pricey even during happy hour. Our waiter was very nice and attentive though. Service at table was great and fast.
Good service, nice vibes, but the food under-delivered. They SV their steak for 'perfect temp' which I do at home too, but mine don't come out so dry. Idk. Solid drinks, very (very) attentive staff, but the kitchen makes it a miss in my book sadly. Would not return for $100+ pp
The food and our server were good (server was great), but the experience did not start well. I've waited two days to write this to make sure I didn't feel I was overreacting, but here I am. I had a 5:00 pm reservation and arrived 5-10 minutes early, not realizing the restaurant did not open until 5:00. I waited near the host stand where he said he'd seat me in just a minute when the restaurant was "ready." A few minutes later, a group of male businessmen walked in who also had a 5:00 reservation. The host walked around me twice and seated them first. I mentioned that it seemed odd they were being seated ahead of me when we had the same reservation time. The host apologized (stunned) but continued walking past me to seat the male guests. I then spoke with a manager, to make him aware who apologized and said it was unintentional. Having to slide past a female customer twice (on the way in and out of the host stand) is fairly intentional, IMO. As a female small business owner, I intentionally choose where I spend my money and where I bring clients. That spending comes directly from my own business, not a corporate expense account. I enjoy supporting and recommending great restaurants, but equal treatment matters. Maybe this isn't the norm for how they treat female guests out with clients, but I would not recommend Doris Metropolitan for female business owners hosting clients. It honestly rattled me so much I wasn't able to enjoy the evening. I struggled with what rating to give this given the steak was good, server was attentive and even the valet opened the door for me.
Expansive with poor server and cheap atmosphere! Not worthy of time… Our server is a loud talker, not a listener. She would be better utilized to serve large portions, rather than a fine dining establishment. Example, took away our wine list after we made order for cocktails (no wine for steak!!!) not listening that misplaced order. Full figure of her bumped into me in this CAFE setup restaurant, not once, but many times… Cheap blinds could really use an upgrade, like plantation shutters that will meet the taste of locals. After all, a table of four, you should expect to pay $450 to 550 for approx 50-60Oz of meat cooked and served… It’s not an fine dining experience!
I was looking forward to a nice dinner at Doris, but I'm sad to say that it fell short of expectations. The plating and portion sizes are generous, and the ambiance of the establishment is quite sumptuous. But overall the execution of the dishes fell short. Although flavorful, the octopus of the octopus appetizer was overpowered by its accompanying sauces. We did get a chance to try sweetbreads for the first time, which was a fun inclusion on the menu, but was unfortunately lacking in flavor. As for mains, they offer the standard fare of cuts, which were prepared as I would expect from a steakhouse. I got to try the lamb chops, which were also prepared well. Unfortunately, the accompanying items on the plate--a generous mountain of spinach and thick bed of tahini sauce-- didn't complement the chops well. I wish there was more of a punchy, acidic note to the dish to contrast with the lamb, maybe tabbouleh or some onions, but that's my humble opinion. The happy hour is at the bar only, which I was quite disappointed by as there was no mention of this particular detail on their website. We therefore could only order from their regular dinner menu. I think I'd be willing to give Doris another shot, but I can't say I'd be eager to visit again.
We had the best dinner at Doris Metropolitan and waiter, and we loved sitting by the kitchen . . . but we will NEVER go back! We arrived 15 min late on valentines day for a 5:15pm dinner (still within the arrival window). The hostess had an attitude and said "she guesses she will still seat us but we have to be done by 7pm". We rushed through our $350 bottle of wine, dessert and the chocolate martini . . . Then when we walked out, the restaurant wasn't even full; we were very frustrated because we had the best dinner, but rushed through the end . . our bill was over $800 for 2 people! I called the manager the next day to let her know of our experience. She said she would send a gift card to make up for it. It never arrived; that is why I am writing this review. There are to many other good restaurants to ever go back here again. Hostess and Manager, you blew it with us! Shame!
The food and atmosphere was fantastic however our server lacked basic service etiquette . When we asked her questions about menu she seemed to not know the answer . Perla , our server ,then forgot to place an order of steak for my husband . She apologized and we had to wait for what felt like 30 more minutes for it to come out. She didn’t send a manager or anything to our table . Left such a bad taste in my mouth that I couldn’t even order dessert . This is truly unacceptable because the point of dining out , especially at such a nice establishment is to dine and eat out at the same time . What a shame because everything else was fantastic . Besides service being slow everything else was nice . We spent a lot of money to get just a sorry . Unacceptable . Will come back however be wary of this server
Felipe was our server and honestly it was the worst experience I've ever had. He stood over my shoulder to make sure I tip, verbalize that he wants cash tips, and it would be better for him.. he barely knew the menu, he tried pushing me to order waygu/tomahawk instead of finding out what my guest and I would enjoy. I felt pressured to tip him over a certain amount. He forgot to put in my entree, I tried to order a drink a certain way, he told me no it is not what he recommended. I asked for my food to be boxed up, and half of it was missing. I spent over 600 for 2 people, come on. Totally not worth it.
Food was horrible, steak was horrible, bread service was great along with oysters and cocktails! Service was decent. I’d never return solely because the food is not worth the price. It’s very bland and compared to other steak houses I’ve been to, definitely at the bottom of my list.
Went for a dinner date night. Server was nice but a bit awkward. Sat in a booth but it literally feels like you are in a NYC restaurant setting because you can literally hear the next table’s conversation and the table next to them. We selected to have our porterhouse carved at the table but were not informed that there’s a fee for this. I mean at least serve the first few slices, maybe then it could slightly justify a $10 fee? You don’t see diners getting paid to cut their own meals.
I had a very disappointing experience at Doris Metropolitan Houston. I brought a guest with me expecting a nice dinner, but unfortunately the evening turned into a very frustrating situation. We were charged $132 for a “22 oz Bone-In Tenderloin Special”, which does not appear anywhere on the menu, and the price was never communicated to us before ordering. On top of that, we specifically asked for the steak to be medium, but it arrived burnt and overcooked. We informed the server, who said they would speak with the manager, but no manager ever came to the table and nothing was done to address the issue. Because I had invited a guest, I didn’t want to create an uncomfortable scene at the restaurant. However, this ended up being a very embarrassing experience for me in front of my guest. Afterward, I tried to contact the restaurant regarding a refund for the undisclosed menu item, but I have received no response at all. Charging customers for items that are not listed on the menu and without disclosing the price is extremely disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes responsibility and resolves this situation.
