Happy Lamp Restaurant Houston Reviews
Really good experience, friendly staff
Me being from up north and looking for a good Chinese restaurant i found the Fried rice has great flavor compared to other restaurants and the egg rolls melt in your mouth, Not hard n not to soft. Going to go here more often. 🤙😋👍
I have been ordering from Happy Lamp for 20+ years. Our company orders from Happy Lamp almost every Friday for lunch. The prices are reasonable and the food is always hot and fresh. The owners are welcoming and always have smiles on their faces when I walk through the door. I love being able to support a family-owned business that has been a staple in our community for decades.
My first time here, we grabbed food to go, but the restaurant was beautiful and the staff were so nice and welcoming. Our food was ready in less than 10 mins.
I've been a customer of Happy Lamp since I've moved into the neighborhood 20 years ago. It's always been great food made by and served by even greater people. I usually get my food to go, but this past weekend my brother was in town for work, and I brought him here for dinner. He was more than impressed with the food, and we were able to eat and catch up with each other in a relaxed and family friendly environment. The experience was made even more special when one of the owners stopped by our table to address me by name and tell him how she remembers me coming in from the time I was little to now. Happy Lamp is a hidden Houston gem. Houston is a great city with great food, but if you want that and more, give Happy Lamp a try, you won't regret it.
The food here is really good and well prices considering the portions served. The portions are so big it takes me 3 days to finish them!
I recently tried Happy Lamp for the first time, after hearing about it from friends. I can't speak to the service or ambiance as it was a to-go order, but I can say that their website is easy to use and their delivery was efficient. There are so many great dishes and sides to choose from. The food was delicious, and the portions were hearty. I would definitely order from them again. Some tips: If you are ordering as a group, order a variety of dishes and share (family style). Also, try one of the two "Birds Nest" chef's specialties options. It's essentially a stir fried meal that you place into a crispy noodle bowl that looks like a birds nest. Cheers!!
The General Tso, Lo Mein and Kung Pao and Mongolian dishes are the best. I usually get chicken or beef. They give you a lot of meat... It's not all vegetables and sauce like some Chinese restaurants. Both egg rolls and wonton soup are delicious. I like the little fried chips they bring before your food comes. They pair well with the duck sauce. Crab puffs are mostly cream cheese, but not bad. Honestly, I'm not a fan of their fried rice. Next time I'll ask for white rice. The service is outstanding. They bring the food out right away and they're so friendly. Also, you can't beat the price! Best value in town. We live in Chinatown but we drive all the way to Happy Lamp for Chinese food.
I have never been, but a neighborhood fan favorite, and I can see why. My husband actually liked the combo fried rice better than P. King. I got Happy Family, and egg rolls. Every thing was fresh, hot and tasty. We ate it next day and it held up well too. The shrimp they use are nice and fat. I would definitely order from here again.
I ordered the Mongolian beef. I was a little disappointed in the flavor & taste. The Mongolian beef was very tender, but there was something missing from either the beef & / or the sauce, but I couldn't figure out what. Would I come here again ? Yes, but I would try the sweet & sour or the orange chicken
Great service and good food, but the reason I'm giving two stars is because the waiter literally chose my food for me. I didn't even get a chance to look at the menu. I came in sat down and he came up to me and said which fried rice I want. I said chicken because I thought it was the side dish for a main plate. Next thing I know they bring me a main plate of rice
I was highly disappointed bc it looked so good and smelled amazing but I was left feeling really bummed out. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was bc the egg rolls were really good and thank god I got 2. The fried rice was good nothing outstanding. The Mongolian beef was weird. The taste was nice but the meat was super chewy and in the meal there were noodles. Glad I tried it but won’t return.
This restaurant was recommended so I drove 20 miles to try it for lunch between Christmas and New Years. When I arrived for lunch, the restaurant was closed for the week for the holiday's. No notice on their website they would be closed that week. Not driving over there again.
horrible food not worth the wait first and last time im ever going here dont recommend you waist your money
Very bad customer service. Food is horrible. The lady in the front said she was the “owner” was very rude and disrespectful. Talking over people and wouldn’t let them get a word in and at the end tries to act the victim. Would not recommend this place. Save your money.
I visited this restaurant today and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. I ordered the Pan Fried Noodles with beef, chicken, and shrimp. The meat was not seasoned at all and tasted off, almost as if it had gone bad. Hoping for a better option, I ordered the Szechuan Chicken, but it also tasted bad and was not enjoyable. I paid $34 for both dishes, and sadly, I couldn’t eat either of them — I ended up throwing the food away because the taste was so unpleasant. I would not recommend these two dishes.
