Leon's Lounge Houston Reviews
Jerry is magnificent! He makes the legendary red on green cocktail that is unmatched! Thank you, Jerry for making our night!
The bartender mixed my Jameson and Gingerale perfectly. I pass this place everyday, this is the perfect afterwork cocktail spot
Jerry is tending bar and if you don't know him, he is a well-known and highly-regarded bartender at Leon's Lounge, which is known as Houston's oldest bar. Jerry is known for his skill in crafting exceptional cocktails, such as the Sidecar and Whiskey Sour. He will make you feel at home; especially when he graces you with his Signature Drink: "A Jerry," which is a delicious coconut and pineapple juice cocktail with rum. Leon's Lounge, a well-known and historic establishment in Houston, Texas. It is often referred to as Houston's oldest continually operating bar, with roots dating back to the late 1940s or early 1950s. Here is a description of the bar: Atmosphere and Decor: Leon's Lounge is known for its cozy, dimly lit, and nostalgic atmosphere. The interior features vintage decor, including a tile-top bar, dark wood paneling, and ornate chandeliers, creating an elegant and charming ambiance. Go over to Leon's lounge in the heart of midtown on MC Gowen near Travis and enjoy the live music 🎵🎶🎵 on Saturday nights.
We went in early October because this used to be one of my favorite hangouts. I was pleasantly surprised by Jerry’s knowledge of drinks and his demeanor. If you’re looking for a good classic cocktail, his ingenuity can makes the flavors jump out. We had a great time because of him. I recommend going to see him and this historic bar. You will not be disappointed.
Jerry was great with the cocktails based on my liquor preference. He made me some delicious drinks such the Sidecar, and a Whiskey Sour. This place is a cute, cozy older gem that is great for date night. I plan to come back on one of their Wednesday open mics to check out local artist talent. Thanks for the great drinks and hospitality, Jerry!
I used to come to this bar about 20 years ago when they had pool tables. We would walk next door from WCG law firm, and it was very convenient to have a few drinks while traffic cleared up. The bar looks nice and still great to visit. We had a Scarlett (owner) drink 🍸, which is a lemon 🍋 drop martini. The bartender was great and friendly.
We had an AWESOME time here! Atmosphere was great, the people and bartenders were so friendly and attentive, and the entertainment was phenomenal! Scotty B. is an amazing singer and keeps things lively by mixing it up! He was very versatile with his music selections and sounded great! Cool dude!
Cool “neighborhood” bar in Midtown. I recall passing by it many times when I lived and worked Downtown and always thought that it looked charming with its vintage and casual exterior decor. The inside was cozy and I suppose one would even call it elegant for a bar that unlike other venues in the area doesn’t try to be something that it’s not. The bartender, Jerry, was personable, prepared me an awesome Old Fashioned, and was a natural when it came to introducing me to a few who I assume were his “regulars.” It was nice to just kick back and try something/somewhere different. I hear that the live entertainment and acoustics here are worth coming back to hear, so I asked Jerry to fill me in on what the expect and told him to look for me again soon. Reasonably priced, friendly clientele, and a cool bartender (Jerry) who was kind enough to also fill me in on the interesting history of the bar. Give Leon’s Lounge a try if in the Midtown area.
We went to see a live band and the venue is gorgeous! It’s old and has so much character, from the Tiffany glass and chandeliers to the old bar. Where the venue/bar fell short was the liquor selection. They had a handful of options to choose from and they weren’t even basics… like they had Bacardi but not basic just a mojito mix (?) they had a beer and yes…. A can of beer meaning one, uno and that’s it. The bartender was incredibly sweet and tried his best to make it work for us, he even went and bought mixers to make our drinks. Overall the venue is great and staff are great they just need to step up their liquor selection.
This dive bar has such an interesting vibe! It’s exactly what you would expect, an old school hole-in-the-wall. My group went to listen to a blues band (The Lightin Brothers) and we were NOT disappointed! (It was however extremely load) The bar tender was nice and it had a surf documentary playing on the bars TV. I got 2 Rum and Cokes and it only cost $11.
Never got inside... Coming from a small town in Ohio here on business + the parking is non-existent. I drove around the block several times and finally got tired and went to The Den
Watch out for this place. I ordered one mocktail and the price ended up being $11.99 after terrible service. After leaving no tip, they charged my card $17.99. These people are thieves.
I came in for a drink for the first time. Ordered one double gin and sprite. I said I would pay as I go since I didnt know how much I wanted to drink. That ONE double gin was $28.15!! ONE DRINK ALMOST 30 DOLLARS. ABSOLUTE ROBBERY FOR A SINGLE DRINK. After tip paying over 30 dollars for a drink that isnt even a specialty or craft cocktail is insane. Also the drink was a double but was put into a short glass instead of tall. Which forced 2 shots in a small glass with a splash of sprite. Its like drinking straight gin with a hint of sprite which isnt enjoyable. Music was so loud at this 12 seat bar you could hardly talk to the person next you. The bartender was absent the entire time so I couldnt even ask for drink specials or what wasnt over 20 dollars a drink. I left after waiting 15 minutrs to speak to the dude again about getting a cheaper drink. So if you want loud music and overpriced drinks this is the place for you.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT service this trashy, dirty place ever!! Not only is parking horrible but they charge guests $5 for a cup of tap water!!! Horrible service and there’s so many liability issues when it comes to the structure of this place, such as water leaking from the ceiling, dripping on the floor, putting patrons at risk! BEWARE!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!
I am hoping that the person at the front with bangs and the face piercing gets help, I have never met such a mean person in my life, she must truly be suffering to treat others like that. Drinks were not good, hire another bartender so the only one isn’t so overwhelmed. EDIT TO RESPOND TO OWNER: I did not say the gender of the bartender, only the person at the door. Your establishment is poorly run
Husband and I stopped by before a concert. Beautiful lounge, but as we sat down there was a grate and wet rag sitting on the bar. The bartender could not make us any drinks. First, I asked for a French 75, she could not make that. Then asked for a lemon drop, she had to Google it and it tasted like straight lemon. The husband ordered an old fashioned. She said “we don’t have those”. He said fine, but the ingredients were right behind her. He ordered a glass of whiskey that she attempted to pour in a plastic cup. As we wanted to pay, the bartender took a personal phone call (which was fine) but was gone for 10mins. While she was away two roaches crawled across the bar! We paid and immediately left.
Revised review: we had a great time here, the music was amazing, and the staff were great. But the lady at the door (who was very nice, by the way) forgot to tell us that there was a difference in price in the cover charge if you pay cash or credit card. When I tried to let the company know, I got an incredibly nasty, petty, immature reply. I tried to let them know what was wrong. The person refused to give me their name even though I asked who I was messaging with. Incredibly unprofessional. I will not be going back. It's such a shame. A simple apology and show of appreciation for my business would have kept me a happy customer. It's a test case in self-sabotage.
