Powder Keg Houston Reviews
Awesome how it's BYOF. Super cute set up! Ladies, look up when you go into the restroom, it's LIT. Great vibe and wasn't too crowded even on a Saturday with great weather.
Very good atmosphere. Great for adultss or kids. While we were watching the games, song was playing volleyball with others. Dogs everywhere! Great time.
Great spot to catch a drink and enjoy good weather. Dog friendly, volleyball and plenty of outdoor seating. Very pretty at night as well!
Great spot, dog friendly, and lots of space. Good place to pull out of traffic on a Wednesday to let it thin out a bit. Plus there's a truck outside!
Went here last week and loved it ! Hopefully they will get a couple of more food trucks soon. Also would be nice if they could add some fires 🔥 pits in the open areas where the chairs are
I recommend anyone for 3 to 80 to come here and have fun. You can sit and chat, watch tv, play in the sand, or play volleyball. A nice place
We actually went to the pavilion across the street but both the brewery and pavilion were great places to visit. Plenty of activities and enjoyment for the entire family!
Awesome bar and bartenders! The young lady today was very knowledgeable and helpful. Even with wearing masks while ordering it was a great experience. Will be back!!!
This is literally the best place to bring a big group of friends to hangout or just show up and join in on some volleyball. Great prices on drinks and perfect for an active lifestyle.
Came with my friends and loved everything about the place. Was able to chat with the owner for the bit and he's a standout guy. Will definitely be there often
Super cool place to hang out with family and friends but, only if you’re cool.. if you’re a Karen or Chad.. or just negative vibe peeps.. don’t go here. They also welcome the furry fam! The have a decent inclosed dog area Food: Taco truck, crawfish boils
Love this place. It's a covered outdoor area with lots of TVs. Very dog friendly. In fact, there is dog park on the premises. There is also a taco truck. And volleyball courts. And table tennis. And the cocktails don't suck. I'm very happy to have a place like this so close to home.
Lots of outdoor space good drinks and kid friendly. It seems they usually have a food truck or two and they have a few volleyball courts. Also pet friendly since it is an outside cover venue.
Great place to go grab a beer and chill with friends and your dog. Super pet friendly place you can even get some special dog drinks and snacks at the bar. Everything is open and spaced out, would highly recommend.
Great place to hang out. Good atmosphere and dog park conveniently located inside the grounds. Good local beer selection and there was a great taco truck outside when we were there. Get the tacos or the quesadillas, both are great.
I LOVE The Powder Keg! My lil ruff ruff loves it to. It's like a park with a bar, and food trucks. It also has Volleyball, picnic tables, tvs, and pavilion. It's different than other places but in a good way. I am over 50 and live near by off of Memorial.. I can roll in by myself , make friends ,entertain my dog , get some food and drinks, relax and roll out. The people are great!! I love this place and the employees are great
Love this place, great big open space, tons of tables, decent dog run (warning it does get muddy!), and a very complete bar. The only problem is it can get extremely crowded and with the single bar and 2 bartenders it can slow down significantly, but that's not something I'd hold against them!
This place has it all! Covered seating with big screen TVs and heaters too for those chilly Houston nights. Ping pong tables, cornhole bean bag toss, and awesome volleyball courts with the best sand. A spacious dog park for everyone's favorite family members. AND most importantly friendly staff!!
Love coming here for the dog park. No other place like it in Houston. Dog park is usually very slow so nice to relax with a drink and have your pup run around like you have your own backyard
I love that my husbands chess group meets at this place and that they have complimentary soda drinks. I also love that one can rent sand volleyball court for $50 per hour. So awesome!
Powder Keg is a cool sand volleyball bar. Plenty of drinks and 4 sand volleyball courts always makes for a fun time. This place also has a ping pong table, cornhole, shower to rinse off, plenty of seating, and a dog park area. I would highly recommend coming here to others who are looking to drink and play sand!
Our favorite place to be. Love the environment, love the staff, and absolutely love the place. It is such a great addition to out community, it actually brings us together, and helps family really have quality time. Including the dogs:)
Great place to hang out! The Taco Truck was excellent, the bar has a lot of options, and there was plenty of space to maintain social distancing. Dog friendly : )
Chill atmosphere, friendly bartenders! I love it! Definitely will return. Huge place with an open space. All outdoors. A great place to bring friends.
Great place for sand volleyball, nice open air pavilion to eat and drink or just hanging out with friends. The music is always great with many musical genres played.
Never seen a bar concept quite like The Powder Keg. Volleyball courts, dog park, games, great drinks. They even have shockingly nice restrooms. Highly recommend!
A great place to relax, have a drink and take your furry friend with you. They have Taco trucks and their food is okay, but this place is now my to go spot for a relaxed Friday night with my new puppy Aslan 🐶
We were there 10/15/22 for the Barktoberfest Fundraiser for Houston Pets Alive, aka HPA. We adopted our sweet baby "FauxGriff" now known as Chuy, during their May 2022 fundraiser. We even got to see Chuy's foster parents and the director of HPA, who named him "FauxGriff" in honor of her baby Griff who looked just like our Chuy. Powder Keg is a wonderful place for this event. I haven't actually been to their bar because we stayed where all the dog events were. We got good food truck food and the beer that came with our tickets. We bought some goodies for our Chuy boy and had dinner and went home with great feelings. Chuy's now out like a light after having a wonderful day at Powder Keg. 🙂
Great food!! Tacos could not be better! Parking is great! Pet friendly with dog park. Clean restrooms. Staff are super friendly. Fun to hang out with friends! All kinds of games to play that are so fun. And I can’t stop talking about how good those Tacos were!
Great spot if you want to enjoy some local beers and spend time with some friends or simply come with your dogs (This place has its own dog park with chairs so you can drink your beer inside the dog park). The staff is always really nice and talkative. Amir the bartender is the best, he is very friendly and if you need beer recommendations he is there to help you. I personally feel that they are not very active on social media which would attract more customer and let more people know about this cool hidden gem. I have brought many friends along with me to this place and they always return with more new people.
The dog park was filled with gravel to prevent mud buildup. Drinks are great and $9 per cocktail. Sand volleyball courts are a great time and reserving is an easy process. There’s a taco truck open every day and occasionally features other pop ups
I absolutely love Powder Keg! This is my favorite place to play volleyball and drink. They play great music and have lots of games as well. The ambiance is great with the string lights. The bathrooms are surprisingly very clean. The bartenders are the best part of this place. Phi was my favorite bartender. He always had a positive attitude and was always a great time. I always recommend powder keg as my go to volleybar.
Awesome outing place . Great facilities with pickle and volleyball plus dog park and food trucks.. awesome attraction is water dunker and bull riding game
Fantastic place to come and hang with friends. 4 sand volleyball courts, a dog park, a pretty decent bar, and taco trucks that serve damn good food. Highly suggest the fajitas quesadilla. Went with all my coworkers after work for a goodbye party and we all really liked the place. Plan on coming back someday with friends.
We had our company get-together at PK, and it was AWESOME! The volleyball courts were clean!! Good drinks! And the staff were so easy to work with getting our event set up!!
Great place to satisfy your volleyball, table tennis, or cornhole needs! Large outdoor covered area with lots of seating and TVs for watching sports. Full bar with reasonable prices. They typically have a taco truck open although it was closed when I visited, but I've heard good things.
Lots of room and plenty of volleyball courts. Plenty of Parking. Friendly bartenders and the prices are reasonable. This might be one of my new favorite places to go. I didn't mention the taco truck out front. I got two quesadillas and they were delightful and reasonably priced.
I wish there were more dog friendly places around me. The staff are nice. But the foot truck was the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen. Which that is a different business. Hopefully Powder Keg teams up with better options.
Nice little outdoor place. Covered and out of the sun and rain but still outdoors. Good selection of drinks and friendly staff. Loads of people with dogs turned up which is cool to see. Certainly a very pet friendly place.
Emir the bartender took care of us. He was nice, cleaned off tables, and made sure we were taken care of. I usually go into a bar and the people aren’t attentive. It was a breathe of fresh air to receive his great customer service. I definitely will come back because of him. He put out positive vibes in times when it was most needed.
I want to share about one of the best bars in the Houston area. It's a fantastic space that caters to people of all ages. During the day, families can enjoy the amenities, including volleyball and pickleball courts, and there's even a dog park for furry friends. The bar also hosts public events every now and then, making it a great place to visit regularly. I absolutely love this spot! I just wish they had more cocktail options.
Love this place but if you have a small dog I do not recommend bringing it to the dog park area. Many larger breed dog owners come and leave their dog unattended while they play volleyball. I don't blame them that's what is it for but if you do have a smaller dog I would just recommend you keep them with you at all times. They have multiple volleyball courts and pingpall tables as well as other games. This is a purely outdoor venue they have a trailer for restrooms and they are always super clean and well stocked. The bartenders are amazing and make great drinks. They have a lot of tasty menu options but you can really ask for anything because they have a full bar as well as amazing local brews I haven't really seen anywhere else. There is plenty of parking always!
Friendly bartenders, even during a rush. Great atmosphere that attracts good fun-loving people. The drinks were tasty (I had whatever the bartenders recommended and I wasn't disappointed). Easily made new friends since everyone's common interest there is dogs! I highly recommend this place. I personally will be back!
Just stumbled upon this place on google maps and was delighted to find it has ample outdoor seating, beach volleyball courts, and a pup park--not to mention really cool art on the walls of the shipping containers that they use for their bar and their restrooms (separately of course!) They have a pretty good craft beer selection as well. And to top it off, the bartender is hilarious. Definitely recommend; definitely will return.
This is a covered but open air venue on the Houston West Side. It has picnic table seating for hundreds. We had a company function so everything was pre-paid. The food was ready, tasty and plentiful. There was music on the PA but you could still have conversations. Plenty of parking and the site was easy to get to. They have a bar and serve non alchohol drinks as well. We had shrimp, crawfish, sausage, corn on the cob and red potatoes. Thank you Powder Keg for your hospitality of the entire WeldFit crew. Hope to visit you again in 2026. (They need more trash cans and a hand wash station.)
Powder Keg is an outdoor event venue with a large pavilion-like covered area. A shipping container has been reimagined to serve all kinds of beverages. Another has been reclaimed as a restroom. There are pickleball courts and sand volleyball courts. Food trucks may be there but I didn't see any. We were celebrating an adult birthday while at the same time another group was celebrating a kids' birthday, and it worked out perfectly. Both groups had bounce houses and catered food from outside. I loved it!
This is a great place to host all types of events. Have a volleyball court they have pickleball they have a beautiful venue. If you ever have a large event you want to have a friendly place with lots of parking this is the place to do it. This event I was at today was the Brazilian international festival, it was also their Brazilian independence celebration. It was amazing it all sorts of different foods and beautiful dancers came out at the end.
First time at this place and we loved it. It's an open space, outdoors with volleyball courts, tennis or pickeball courts in the back. I noticed a bounce house for the kids. It's family and dog friendly. We visited because of the crawfish. They usually have Phil's Crawfish on the weekends and they do AYCE crawfish. This weekend was 25 dlls per person. Crawfish had a good flavor with most of them medium size, some small and some large. All employees were very nice and attentive. They were trying to keep the place clean at all times. Even though it's outside they have fans/coolers all over. You can also bring your own. Food wise they only had the crawfish and some taco stand. Drinks are fairly priced. Overall it was a good experience. We would be back. I recommend it.
Really nice place. The two pickleball courts are lit pretty well so you can play even when it’s dark. You have to reserve the courts online beforehand on their website. For pickleball they’re available in hour increments for $20/hour. Check in with the bartender when you arrive! There’s a large, covered seating area with picnic tables. There was a birthday party going on when we went! Maybe you can rent a table…I’m not sure.
It was very fun! They open early at 11am and they have plenty to do from tennis to volleyball to cornhole and also drinking! I went because they are dog friendly. It's an outside themed place and I didn't see any food I spent $20 on 2 drinks and they had a nice sized dog park in between the volleyball and tennis so not only did my dogs get to play they also had a show as well. Definitely recommend visiting
Surprised I haven’t been here sooner! After dinner, we wanted a chill place to hang out and watch the game. Stumble across this awesomeness. I love the open concept of it! Very spacious and airy. They also have open volleyball courts, cornhole, ping pong, and a food truck! Plenty of TVs for sports night. Best part is that, it’s super dog friendly!! They have water bowls out for the doggies, treats, and an area for them to play. Loved. Totally could see ya coming back for more SUNDAY FUNDAY!
Great patio bar with plenty of TVs to watch the games and a good sized dog part for your pets to socialize and run free. There is plenty of parking onsite so you won't have to go find a place to park on the street. The staff is friendly. Decent cocktails and a decent selection of beer. Pretty cool how they have it set up inside of shipping containers. The sand volleyball courts can be reserved in advance and there's also table tennis and Cornhole. The website mentioned food trucks but there weren't any when I went, maybe because they just opened. Will update the next time I go.
Nice atmosphere for relaxing. Dog park is great. Drinks are fairly priced. Only thing I don’t like is the music they play.
We have only gone once, it was a cool spot tucked away. Lots of tables and tv's. Outdoor only which is great because you can bring your pups.
Good food trucks (1 BBQ, 1 Mexican), competent bartenders, good drink selection, volleyball courts are decent. 4 courts, good nets, one of the four courts the sand is not good.
Just another bar, nothing out of the ordinary. The place to be especially don't want to miss their albino fest. I think they had German fest the last time I visited because there were plenty of European looking people.
Good spot for young people. Lots of hotrods out front, beach volleyball, good beer, ping pong, etc. Great place to bring a group. Only downside is that the line to the bar can be exceptionally slow sometimes, and the prices are on the high side.
Went at night from 9-11pm for a birthday reservation and we played volleyball. We didnt have many options for foods. The sand is very cold on bare feet. Id suggest wearing socks or shoes you dont mind getting sandy
Hidden gem in Spring Branch. Just north of I-10, this outdoor bar has plenty of games for adults and room to run and play for kids. It also has a built in dog park and onsite food truck. I recommend to anyone who is in the neighborhood.
I had never been, and didn't pick the best night to go given the weather, bit how COOL! They have a doggy area that's fenced in, sand volleyball courts, and shipping containers turned into the bar and bathrooms. Great music, vibes, and more. Can't wait to go back and get it to five stars!
Nice 100% outdoor place with a volleyball court. There is no bar here, just tables. Everyone has their dogs, or they are here to play volleyball. I guess you could go and not play volleyball but you'll be sitting at a table alone if you go by yourself. Drinks were great.
A very relaxed atmosphere bar that includes tvs and 4 beach volleyball courts. I went here for a function and enjoyed it. The staff weresuperhelpfull and always on patrol to clean up any trash or used glasses. The building has no sides so I'm not sure how significantly the weather will effect your enjoyment of this place. UT I really liked it as had a nice breeze.
Cool place with ample parking and a decent beer selection. There is live music here. Get here early because the line for drinks becomes absolutely atrocious. I think I've seen the same people in line for 30 minutes. But it's fun here, especially since the weather is really nice.
We enjoy p k. It's an outdoor bar. There is volleyball. Ping pong, toss, tvs, big tables. Bar height tables. Luckily been able to get 2 tables. We visit Thursdays. I stole that strategy from someone. So I guess of course weekends are busier. Each visit 2 weather has been satisfactory. Pets are welcome. There is a small no leash section run area. Highly recommend.
Two special things here. 1) Sand volley courts. Watching people playing is fun. 2) One of the best local beer "Tiki Wheat" is in the fridge. It is rare place where you can enjoy this beer.
Excellent environment for adults and children. You can keep drinking your beer while your kids play around. If you like sand volleyball or beach soccer that is the place to go. To get5 stars they could have more beer and not only canned ones.
Really nice place, they even had a DJ that was playing amazing music. Had a really good time, there was just not that many ppl there. Drinks were great! Food truck was really good!
Don't know anything about the food or service but the volleyball courts were pretty good. Friends enjoyed the beer selection. Only gripe is the music was kinda loud, but they are welcome to their own vibes. Pretty busy on Fridays so get a reservation! I'd recommend two hours!
Love how spacious this place is and it’s dog friendly. Plus they have volleyball and pickle ball if your into those. My one complaint is the loud club music they play. Maybe playing that type of music in the later hours would be fine but when you are there in the early afternoon trying to just enjoy a couple of drinks on a nice day it kinda kills it. Wish they would switch up the music or at least if they are not willing to do that at least turn it way down.
Great venue with sand volleyball, corn hole, and a game called Hookie. Great covered patio with picnic tables and tall tables. Large fans to keep it cool. Plenty of large screen TVs and decent music in the background. They even have a dog play area for your furry companions. Best of all, they pour a really nice drink.
3 hours of straight profanity blaring over the speakers. Who decides the soundtrack for this place? Made an otherwise great place feel like a trashy high school house party.
It's ok. The bar staff is friendly and good. But, really not much to do, if you're not playing volleyball. Sitting outside in Houston weather jn July is not a super fun experience.
We booked the place at 7pm for pickleball by 6:20 pm it was dark their lights is on automatic for a certain time to be on. It be better too if both courts have lights, only one court have lights. For pickleball we need some lighting around like the volleyball area. I think the fence need to be space out more too because you would need more room to back up to return a serve and the sides to pick up angle shots. If they fix the light problem and the space on the court it would be perfect for players. Everything else good.
This place is a really cool concept, but they don’t enforce the rule about no children after 9pm. They played exclusively rap music the whole night. The dog park is a great feature and their bar is cool (it’s an old freight container) with a pretty good selection of brews and liquors.
Came here 04/09 around 6. Music was way too loud. Had to shout to be heard even sitting right next to each other. Drinks are reasonably priced but we left after one round.
First time in here today. 2 things you should know---this bar is outside and they don't accept cash for payment. Happy hour pricing is $5.50 wells and drafts. They do have $9 shot and beer combos, and that's what I had. The lovely and helpful V mixed up the pickle shot and opened a Mexican import (Dos Equis can) for me. The vibe was pretty good in here. I could see there were a few groups of twenty-somethings that were there for the volleyball and other activities available. I probably won't be back because the fact that they don't take cash is pretty much a deal breaker for me. This review would be a 4-5 if they did.
Went for a work event. It's not really a great experience for anything when it's cold and rainy.
Great for volleyball but the bartenders there that night were RUDE. My buddy and I asked for two shots of Astral tequila and the lady said say it the American way. Then when I went for more shots later I asked for astral again and when she started walking around looking for fireball I corrected her, her answer was “ego! You aren’t the only one here.” The funny thing is that everyone there was with me for the company we work for. On top of it all, I paid for my drinks left NO TIP because of her. I look at my bank statement today and there is an additional $10 on top of what I paid. I won’t ever go back for the bar. Just for volleyball.
If you have a group with drink tickets, please double check your tab before closing it. They add drinks to your tab that aren't yours. We used 13 tickets and they had 22 drinks on our tab.
Worst experience ever. Literally. Don’t waste your time. I would say or money, but chances are you won’t get to spend any money because you cannot get to the bar. Stood in line for 45 minutes, never made it to the front. We left. The door guy greeted us with an awkward stare and nothing more. Later when I tried to talk to him about the long line I started to speak, he look at me then turned and walked off.
Bartending staff lost my ID!!! We went on Monday night and it wasn’t that busy. They require an ID to hold so you can rent out the pickleball equipment. At the end of the night we went to return the pickleball stuff and get my ID back. However, the main bartender was training a new girl and she doesn’t remember what she did with it.. said she placed it “here on the counter”. I’m an understanding person. People make mistakes. But an ID doesn’t magically disappear. I came back the next day and was told (by a diff bartender) they looked for the ID but couldn’t find it. So my thought is that with a new hire trainee, statistically mistakes are highly more likely to happen. So my ID could have been given to someone else, which is a big safety issue. Now have no ID which I need for a bachelorette trip this weekend and no one from management has tried contacting me.. I just don’t understand the lack of accountability. So I’m sorry but I have to leave this one star review to get the attention of management then so be it.. hate being the bad guy
Last update. They definitely don't enforce the no children after 9 rule. Updated 1/8/2022. The Friday night bartenders are just discriminatory. We had 12 people on a court, they allowed a group to buy us out and when we asked to pay for another court, they said every court is reserved til close. We checked the website, asked the other groups if they had a reservation, and they said no. So the bartenders just lie. Also, they close at midnight and don't stick to their website hours. 1/5 bring back the old bartenders. Updated 1/1/2022. They don't even post their holiday hours if there are any. No one's at the bar on New Year's Day. Dropping score to a 2/5. Used to be a 5/5 hangout spot. There was an awesome bartender named Amir, remembered everyone, always had a good time on the courts when they weren't booked. Then I leave for a few months and come back and the new bartenders shut the lights off on us in the middle of a game and say they're closing at 12:30. Bro, come say something to us instead of leaving us in the dark? Rude and no longer sticking to advertised hours.
IF EMPLOYEES WITH AGGRESSIVE DOGS ARE ALLOWED TO BRING THEIR DOGS TO WORK AND LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED THIS SHOULD NOT BE CALLED DOG FRIENDLY. My husband and I just relocated to Houston for work with our 4 month old puppy. We got a drink and walked to the dog area and our puppy was attacked and bleeding. Needless to say our time and experience at the establishment was very short as the emergency vet instructed us to come in immediately because the bite was directly into our puppies gum and he was bleeding. Clearly someone that will leave their aggressive dogs unattended in a dog friendly area probably also is not up-to-date with their specific Care so our nice Sunday was cut short by taking our puppy to the emergency vet. I WILL ALSO MENTION ANOTHER COUPLE WAKES UP TO LET THWIR DOG IN AND QUICKLY REALIZE LD WHY I PICKED UP OUR PUPPY AND HAD TO LEAVE. The response from this establishment was offensive and unacceptable. Please have a professional reply to your reviews moving forward and not the girlfriend of the dog owner who told us it was an employee’s dog. We will never return to your establishment and you are lucky we don’t sue for recklessness, sanitation, false advertising….along with countless other offenses I encountered while there. At this point I wish I could give you zero stars because we spent more on vet bills, medication, time and energy on our experience than we ever received for the brief period we were there. If you would like to comment back with someone from your upper management we could contact I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. I should also note for anyone who hasn’t been here the photos are not accurate at all! I don’t know when they were taken? Maybe opening day? But that is not what the bar or anywhere looked like when we went.
