The Nook Cafe Houston Reviews
Very lovely cafe next to UH! This morning the barista with a ponytail was very sweet and helped me pick the best matcha for me, she created a warm environment and was also very friendly and helpful to everyone else before me! Perfect study spot; spacious, lots of seating and outlets! I always feel super comfortable studying/working here. They also have an outdoor area with outlets. The drinks here are always great and consistent
This fun cafe is an interesting spot for morning coffee and pastries on campus. They offer chalkboard walls and board games for the customers as well as a place for local artists to display their artwork or photographs. Recently, The Nook Cafe's menu expanded to include beer and wine. You can also buy UH's signature Cougar blend of coffee beans made by Katz's Coffee here. A large outdoor patio and study spaces inside make Nook Cafe a nice place to spend a few hours studying on campus.
Amazing place to study and get work done without slacking since you're surrounded by seemingly productive people. Plenty of outlets and a great collection of books. Their Rattlesnake latte is the best out there with an extremely rich texture and perfect balance of espresso. They have great Matcha too!
Stopped in for some coffee and a treat this morning. Wonderful place. They have a huge coffee menu, they have adult beverages. This place stays open till midnight. There is a fantastic outdoor seating area, for those not to hot days. And best of all there is a huge selection of board games and enough plugs to satisfy the techies. The staff was super friendly. I will be visiting this place often. Thank you.
Great campus café providing fast internet, creatively tasty frappes, and plenty of nooks to choose from to suit your lounging, studying , or socializing needs. IMO, the music playing in the background can be a bit loud and distracting at times, but it’s a diverse playlist. Staff is friendly. Prices are standard for coffee, but the sweets are expensive. All things considered, The Nook Café is one of the best coffee shops in town.
Just overheard a guy telling his date (probably to show off, which is WEIRD and not impressive at all...) "the service here is awful! AWFUL!" Sir, there is ONE barista working here. ONE. So I took one star off not for the barista but for the owner/manager understaffing this place just like everyone everywhere does. But the barista here today is VERY kind and VERY busy. Drinks can only be made so fast. Get a grip, dude. Also, it's December. Be kind to our service workers, everyone. they take so much abuse.
Hello! I come to The Nook all the time, even since they had their old location. The coffees have a unique taste that is super great. However, I dislike that they started to close early. The Nook would stay opened until 2AM in the Fall of 2022, and then in 2023, it started to close at 12AM. Now it closes at 10PM. Furthermore, they do not update their hours during breaks. I am at the location now, and it says they are supposed to be opened at 7AM, but I have waited and it is now 8AM and nobody has opened the doors. I understand it is spring break for the students, but please notify individuals of the new hours. The new look is okay, but I preferred the old look of the nook better. Either way, it is a great place to hang out, study, and drink coffee! PS: Again, I went to the nook and it was closed. I understand it is Easter but please notify students and other individuals about when y’all are closing thanks.
We ordered coffee and pastry. Pastries were good . Coffee with oat milk definitely not good. Well we always try drinks with oat milk but I guess that day it was bad? Not sure though. Evenings also it was busy . Hard to find a table . Looks cozy and busy . Probably we will Have to try drinks with regular milk next time. There is seating upstairs too but we found seating below and didn’t go up .Parking is a paid one so will have to make sure not to get towed.
Went during the day and it was 90% full. According to a cashier, the hours of 10 am-5 pm during the week is the busiest, evenings are less busy and the weekends are empty. They are open till 12 am daily. Ordered the iced latte with caramel. I give it a 4/5. Most of their pastries were sold out. Upstairs is their restaurant and bar. Plenty of power outlets. They sell board games and offer a variety of board games to play. Wifi seems to be a good speed via mobile phone. There is also some outdoor seating. Overall, it seems like a cool place to chill, study, or hang out.
Nook Cafe is the perfect study haven for University of Houston students. With its study-friendly atmosphere, peaceful ambiance, ample seating, and delicious offerings, it has become my preferred spot for focused work. If you're seeking a productive and comfortable space to study, look no further than Nook Cafe.
Came through there on a random Tuesday afternoon and was able to take advantage of the happy hour menu and ended up with the Kimchi fries (🍟) and a mango green tea (🍵) and was happy I pulled up! It reminds me of my college days (UTA 🤙🏾) with students studying and just kicking it in the very diner-esque cafe. The energy is light, the wifi is good, and the service is on point. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.
This place has an interesting aesthetic. I like how some of the rooms are almost sectioned off, minimizing the noise, which can get pretty loud in coffee shops. While it isn't the best place ever in terms of atmosphere, there isn't anything to really complain about either, and the service was great and the baristas were friendly. The cortado was surprisingly mild after a string of very bitter, somewhat burnt tasting cortados at other places, though this may be too bland. It still isn't bad though. To sum up this place, it was nice, but nothing wowed me.
it’s not bad, prob the best coffee shop on campus compared to the others
Great place to study. Awesome atmosphere and awesome staff. However I prefer a dark strong coffee no thrills, no cream or sugar and theirs is just too watered down.
While the coffee was good, there seem to be some management issues with this shop. 1-Wifi was spotty at best. Reconnected three times and it still wouldn't work. 2-Ran out of most food items within an hour of opening 3-Only had one employee working who was supposed to take orders, process payments, and make drinks by themselves. The line was out the door at one point. Overall a decent place, but higher-ups need to take better care of their employees and the shop.
i ordered a mocha a freeze and the cashier rang me up for a mocha freeze but then they made me a latte. when i told them that i ordered a freeze and not a latte they said that freezers weren't available cause the machine was down. why would they not tell me that when i had ordered in the first place? asked for a refund and they said no. this place is a scam and i hope to never go back. i don't even like lattes
They say they take cougar cash, but I’ve been here on 3 separate occasions and got different results each time. The first time was on October 3rd when I ordered a large vanilla latte and I asked if I could take cougar cash, and the lady said yes, but proceeded to incorrectly swipe my card, then incorrectly type in my psid and forced me to pay with actual money. The second time was on October 23rd, and when I asked to use cougar cash the guy said of course! A smart guy who rightfully accepted my cougar cash! Then on November 5 I tried to order another drink and asked to use cougar cash and the guy didn’t know how to do it, so I explained how he could based on what I’ve seen before. He asked his coworker and she said they don’t take cougar cash, but right before me I saw someone use cougar cash! They blatantly refused to let me use cougar cash! L place
Went to try the food for the first time. I ordered the breakfast combo but was charged for the items separately. I brought it up to the employee’s attention that it should be 6.50? She said it was combined + tax when I’m looking at the screen that says that says drip coffe and egg n cheese 9.56. I don’t believe she meant any harm but i definitely think the place needs help. Especially with thing like the WiFi not working either.
