The food was fantastic . Our server was very polite and professional. I highly recommend this place. It's very much worth it
The New York Strip paired with garlic butter sauteed mushrooms was an absolute top notch dish. A mouth watering juicy tender steak finished with the perfect amount of sear. However the mashed potatoes were a tad lacking in the flavor department. The Glazed Salmon was arguably the best I've had the pleasure of eating. Again, the perfect amount of sear on both the asparagus and the salmon filet. The Glazed Salmon was very moist yet firm. The filet had a meaty thickness throughout unlike a cut from the tail end of the fish. The asparagus was perfect al dente with delectable little bits of char on the tips. Our dinner rolls exteriors were a smidgen on the hard side but the warm whipped butter that accompanied them softened them wonderfully. Mixed greens salad with the house dressing is my recommendation to start your meal with. I would take a bottle of that wonderful house dressing home if they sold it. The bartender seemed very knowledgeable and I took his recommendation on a shot of sipping whisky to end the meal. This steak house will be one of my preferred dining establishments from here forward when I am in the KC area.
Food was Excellent Service was timed perfectly. Great service Kortney!! We started with appetizers of jumbo shrimp cocktail and calamari. 1957 Salads The Herf and Surf was perfectly cooked. Dessert was carrot cake.
Went here for the first time for KC restaurant week and it’s been on my dad’s wishlist since HIGHSCHOOL. It was delightful! The brown butter and sage pork chop, the surf and turf, the roasted red potatoes, the mashed potatoes, and the carrot cake were delicious!! Our server Alexis was very kind, helpful, and stayed on top of drink refills so well! All the staff were great!
Ok, I try to be reserve on 5 stars but why not, the food was fantastic, service was great, and beautiful place inside. Our waitress Jennifer was very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was relatively quite with classic rock playing. Somewhat unemployed at the time so didn't go all our on steaks but my wife's whiskey medallion was tender and delicious. My county fried chicken had good breading and thicker meat (not smashed flat like some places) the not country gravy was good. We mixed up the sides and had whipped potatoes, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and gouda corn; also all very good. Of course finished it off with gooey butter cake with bourbon peaches. SWEET and tasty. I would certainly recommend for a date night.
I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Hereford House for their Thanksgiving lunch special, and it was nothing short of spectacular—easily earning a solid 5 stars from me! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with festive decorations that made it feel like a cozy family gathering, but with the luxury of not having to cook or clean up. The star of the show was their prime rib: juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a flawless medium-rare with that melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. It was carved right at the table, and each bite was bursting with rich, savory flavors that paired beautifully with the horseradish cream on the side. Then there was the turkey—moist and flavorful, not a hint of dryness, roasted with herbs that gave it a homey, comforting taste. And don’t get me started on the mashed potatoes! Creamy, buttery perfection with just the right amount of garlic and a smooth texture that made them irresistible. They were piled high and served piping hot, the ideal complement to the meats. The portions were generous, the service was attentive and friendly, and the overall value was unbeatable for a holiday meal. If you’re looking for a stress-free Thanksgiving feast that feels indulgent yet traditional, Hereford House nails it. I’ll definitely be back next year—highly recommend!
I personally love this restaurant. The drinks were great. The food was great. I would definitely come again when the opportunity presents.
I will admit I am a very picky person when it comes to my food and the service I receive. Everything here was absolutely perfect. Josiah was our server and he was amazing. He went out of his way to make sure I had what I asked for. I have found my new favorite restaurant.
Service and friendly employees made it an exceptional experience. The food was cooked perfectly and delicious. I'll definitely be back!
Great dinner experience! Drinks, appetizer, main course and dessert were spot on! Waiter was attentive and polite, couldn’t have asked for better!
This place is great for good food, great service, and an awesome atmosphere. This is not a cheap place to go for dinner but the food was great. I've never seen Flambe before, so that was fun. Their brownie with ice cream was delish, but so was the rest of our meal! Our server was attentive, friendly, and accommodating!
Very nice place The foods and drinks were very tasty and well prepared It was a enjoyable dining experience
I can’t say enough great things about my meal at the Hereford House. The Brown Butter & Sage Pork Chop entree was a table favorite! The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection. This entree will definitely leave you stuffed! Start your meal off with the 1957 house salad and end your meal with the brownie dessert…if you still have room! Hereford House has a warm and cozy environment with an actual fireplace tucked in the middle. Service was spectacular as well. 10/10 recommend!
An excellent steakhouse in every regard, from food to service to ambience. It is also quite busy, well worth getting reservations for supper if you’re going on a Saturday night as we did. We started off by ordering their cornbread for two, which came out along with two hot yeast rolls. All of the bready stuff was seriously good, and I say that as a bread snob. For our entrees, I ordered the set of bacon-wrapped 5-ounce filet portions, along with green beans and an upgraded side of mushrooms. Everything was delicious. My husband had the ribeye along with fries and broccoli, and greatly enjoyed his food, too. We had to splurge on dessert as well, getting a KC Irish Cream Coffee and a bread pudding with flambé. The hot spiked coffee was tasty and potent, but the bread pudding was truly a sensation. Our server lit it on fire right at our table. The portion was large—definitely a dessert to share—and rich, with a thick custard top and bready bottom within a lush sugary sauce with islands of sliced peaches. I love bread puddings and this was up there among the best—people should come here for this dessert alone. Really an amazing restaurant, one that fully lives up to the ratings hype.
I recently dined here while staying at the attached hotel for business. I was impressed. The meal I had was absolutely delicious. From the honey butter with warm bread to the wonderful butternut squash dish, ending with carrot cake to go. The presentation was done fabulously. But what really stood out was the atmosphere of the restaurant. The cozy yet upscale decor with a western theme. Loved it. From walking in the door to finalizing the bill the service was perfect. I truly enjoyed my meal and overall dining experience. This is a must visit restaurant for delicious food and a lovely atmosphere.
Thank you so very much Hereford House for having the waiter Andrew V 231 has my waiter he did a most excellent job at serving me and my Uncle and Aunt it was my uncle's 90th birthday he had a wonderful meal and he really enjoyed the Billionaire Chocolate Cake. My uncle and aunt both had the 7 oz filet, and my uncle said they cooked it just to perfection their side dishes were, of course, green beans and baked potato. I had the bacon-wrapped filet medallions the twin 5 oz cuts wrapped in bacon. My two side dishes were caramelized cremini mushrooms and smoked gouda and bacon mac and cheese. Andrew, thank you for your time, talent, and energy. I appreciate and value you for your customer service and being a most excellent waiter. You are working with a great team of people, and remember TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. So remember, for a great meal and a great time to be had by all go to the Hereford House in Independence, Missouri, I highly recommend it.
Jennifer B and Patrick were so good to us! Best steak in the world.
The steaks were amazing, and the sides tasted really great. The atmosphere is really nice and the private rooms are great for when you're celebrating a birthday.
Omg 🤩🥳hands down this was very delicious 🤤 😋. First timers and very satisfied. Meat was cooked to perfection. Very clean and nice calm environment. Our waitress was awesome 👏🏼 very attentive and friendly.thank you so much Molly for making our night special.
We had reservations so when we arrived we were seated within 5 minutes. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. Food came out in a very timely manner and was hot. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The potatoes were excellent as well as the corn and green beans. It is a little pricey but the quality makes up for all of it. Best steak house in my opinion.
Oh my YUM! We are staying in the area while finishing up a job. We decided to try the Hereford House, and it did not disappoint! Andy was our server, and he took very good care of us. We tried a little bit of everything on the menu. The Baked Oyster Rockefeller was soooo good! We also had the spinach and artichoke dip, the 1857 salad, and the apple pecan salad as starters. We had a variety of steaks... cowboy ribeye, 12 oz ribeye, New York strip, and the Oscar style sirloin. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the Oscar topping melted in my mouth! We finished with the very unique, and totally yummy, carrot cake. We look forward to going back, as there are several other menu options that I'd like to try.
When the texas roadhouse is packed you find a place that takes you back in time and feeds you quality steak.

The food was amazing! Travis my waiter, he was on his game. He took very good care of me. Staff was friendly. The Head Chef took time to talk to me. I wanted to let him know how thoroughly I enjoyed everything, everyone and my experience. I left happy 😊
Jasiah served us well!! My prime rib was cooked perfectly. The carrot cake was out of this world good. Give them a try - you will return again, and again!
This place is amazing! We had our first dinner date here and Chris could not have been a better server! I definitely recommend!
Reservation for 5 on a Saturday night dinner booked through a 3rd party service. Management was able to pivot to a private room after 3rd party booking service did not include the seating preference. This location has never disappointed on the 3-4 occasion dinners per year over the past several years. Food and service is always on point. Will be back of course.
First time here, everything was delicious. Andrew our server put up with our shenanigans and took great care of us. Will definitely come back another time when we’re in Kansas City.
We love Hereford House and eat there often. They recently changed one of their best selling items Stuffed Mushrooms to be made with Pimento cheese. Why? If it ain't broke don't fix it. I won't be ordering them anymore but everything else we had was five star.
GREAT all the way around! We actually had just left the restaurant (Feb 11, 2026), and everything and everyone was amazing! The server, Melissa I believe, was very knowledgeable about the menu. She was extremely personable, kind, and all around fantastic. With her knowledge of the menu, we ended up getting a very delicious appetizer (something Hogs, and also got calamari). Thanks chefs! Oh that was scrumptious! You all cooked our meals perfectly. <3 Everyone loved their meals. And Melissa talked us into deserts. We all left very happy with every aspect of the experience.
the asparagus was good and the bread was warm. our server gave us plenty of water. someone kindly directed me to a restroom when she saw I looked lost. I think if there should be a next time I would try a burger and fries.
Gathered here for a cousins lunch. There were 7 of us and we reserved their small private dining room It was quite so conversation was possible. The waitstaff were attentive. The food was great and everyone said theirs was delicious. The price was very good for a luncheon. We throughly enjoyed ourselves and will return again.
Chris Plott was our waiter we had a private dining room and there was seven of us and he did a phenomenal job. It was a special occasion it was my parents 46th anniversary and it was the first year my dad wasn't with us and we brought my mom here for their anniversary and he did a phenomenal job. Very kind... Thank you so much Chris 🙏
We had Thanksgiving here. It was so delicious. A good menu. Our server Norma was perfect. We arrived about 20 min early for our reservation but we were seated within 5 min. Lots of leftovers, we wound up taking our dessert home because we were too full.
Hereford House is truly a Kansas City staple. The food is consistently prepared and flavorful. I ordered the prime rib medium-rare; it arrived closer to medium than rare. While I did eat it, I mentioned the temperature to the server so she was aware. They also didn't offer me a side of au jus, which was disappointing. They were offering lobster tails at a very reasonable market price, and we shared one—it was excellent. The service was personable and attentive throughout the evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with low lighting and a moderate noise level that creates a comfortable, upscale ambiance. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Next time, if the prime rib is not cooked rare as requested, I will send it back.
I recently ate here, and this was my second visit. My last visit was a long time ago. I remembered this place as incredible. I wasn't as pleased this time. The appetizer, boneless wings, was incredible like last time. The prime rib was good. My asparagus and red potatoes I didn't care for. The creme brulee was burnt on top. When we told the server he lied and said that's oreo cookies. They tried to hide the burnt by topping it with whipped topping. For $105.00 for 2 people I expect more. This will probably be my last visit here as I know of better places to spend this kind of $.
I always enjoy myself when eating here. The hostess greeted us right away, my daughter made reservations which was a good thing because of Fathers Day. Food was delicious and filling. Though at times I felt our waiter couldn't focus and even forgetting about us at times. Had to remind him 2 times for the desert menu, our drinks, and a bag to take home our leftovers
We experienced a great anniversary meal!! Prime rib was sublime! The asparagus and parmesan broccoli were tender crisp and perfect! The bread was warm, chewy, crisp on the outside. Two exceptions were my espresso martini -- it was very light in color and super sweet. I asked for more cold brew to cut the sweetness and add more coffee flavor. Also, the parmesan broccoli had no parmesan flavor at all.
The filter mignon with blue cheese crust was delicious... My grandson's kid burger was huge and set at a great price which included ice cream and a topping. I enjoyed the blue cheese wedge but thought it could use a tad more bacon. There were just a few very small bacon pieces.. The sides need some improvement. I ordered the cheesey potatoes but they were cold and the scalloped potatoes were undercooked. I swapped them for broccoli but also cold and no seasoning. Fortunately, they come with the steak and are not an extra charge. Service was just ok. We waited too long to order and water was forgotten about but the server was nice. With some small improvements, it could be great. At least the steak was.
The atmosphere and did was great. Although, Happy hour is only in the bar area. So if you wanted to get the appetizers from that menu although it was given to us, you couldn't get the discount. Steak was cooked to perfection. The Buffalo Blue cheese chips were very good.
Excellent environment for date night, high end prices. Only 4 stars because my daughter spent $50 for Prime Rib for my birthday, it was rubbery. I took it home
We unexpectedly stayed overnight in KC while traveling for the holiday and stopped here for drinks and dessert with our kids. The bread pudding, carrot cake and gooey butter cake were fantastic! 🤤 The atmosphere was lovely and our service was great (thanks, Chris!). I took 1 star off because our drinks were super heavy pours which wasn’t great. Otherwise, we will absolutely be back!
We 2 adults dined in. We picked the 99 duo. 4 course meal. I'm gf and there's not a gf option for the first course so my other half got to choose. Spinach artichoke dip was all his. I chose the gf desert. Your 2nd and 3rd courses are chose per person. The salad was great he got the prime rib stew. It was a thick gravy while tasted store bought. We both got the kc strip. Cooked and seasoned well. Should have melted in the mouth. The steaks were tough and did not have the texture of a kc strip or any other good cut off meat. I'd compare it to un-marinated or not tenderized London broil tough. Then the kicker was the ticket. I did not look at it before my date paid. We got duped bad. 49.50 a person plus my 10 dollar drink = $109.00 plus tax. Nope 153.61. That's for dinner and drink $140.00 + $13.61 in tax. We had gift cards but chose to only use 1. If you can't purchase certain meals with a gift card my waiter should of said something when I got it out. Also the rules and instructions DOES NOT exclude gift cards. See photos please. Note he paid cash for the rest of the ticket. My review on the gf desert is not good either. I'll be calling to see if I can resolve the situation. If not I've got gift cards to get rid of.
The restaurant was had very nice decor. The waiting staff was great. The Caesar salad was ok. I ordered the 12oz ribeye medium and was was served almost well done. It had no flavor, luckily I asked for some steak sauce. My wife ordered the turkey club sandwich, which she enjoyed. I was very disappointed on this visit.
Young lady was not attentive to our needs. Only served 2 tables in her area, very slow afternoon. We’ve been here 2 hours, leaving before our deserts could be served. She hung out too much by the bar. Calamari too rubbery. Prime Rib mostly FAT!
My husband, daughter, and I all ordered the 12 oz. strip. All three came to the table medium instead of medium rare. The steaks had no grill marks and were not seasoned well. The jalapeno corn tasted like it was out of a can. The "seasoned" fries were not seasoned at all. We had to ask what other drink options there were instead of alcohol because the non-acoholic drinks were no where found in the menu. Probably will not visit again. For a steak house to not be busy on a Saturday night is concerning and should have been a give away.
This used to be one of my favorite places. My greeting set the tone for the night. " what can I do you for?" i almost asked where I could find women's boots. Not : welcome, how many tonight, have you been here before ? After we answered her with (2) She then asked do you have a reservation?. Why would we say 2. Vs we have a reservation for 2 and name. The fish was not good. Cold fries. And prices are too high. Quality is terrible. Old croutons from a bag.. you can make your own. Salad dressing was paste. Salad looks like from a bag. Nothing is fresh. The dinner rolls and honey butter is very good. Steak was ok nothing great. And seated at the very back passing a half empty dinning room. Seated surrounded by nosing groups and screaming children. We couldn't hold a conversation. Your front hostess needs some help. First : invite people not basically asking what I wanted. [We'll I was thinking dinner] what can I do for you? Is close to ; what do you want?Someone needs some training. And also send them home if they cant clean up a bit to come to work and look presentable. I am not at McDonald's. The first person I see needs to represent.
If i could leave no stars i definitely would! Hereford used to be one of our places to go on the weekends for dinner. Last night our service was terrible! The lady that waited on us took 20 min to even come take our drink order or acknowledge us at all even while several staff members stood talking over by the kitchen. When she finally came she got my drink order but not my husband or kids. and all the received was water. When our food came the guy that brought it out dropped one of my daughters chicken tenders on the tray and picked it up with his bare hand and put it back on her plate, when my husband said something to him he stated his hands were clean and he had washed them. He proceeded to go to the kitchen area making faces and laughing with the staff about it. I asked for a manager and when he came he didnt seem to care to much about it and said he would talk to him but when he went to the kitchen area he also rolled his eyes and laughed with him like he could care less. Needless to say we will not be returning! Beware if you plan on eating there, apparently touching your food with bare hands is not a big deal to them and u will get laughed at and talked about as if you are a problem!
First of all, dinner was delicious. Our server Melissa was not attentive to our table at all. Empty drinks. Asked her for bread, none came until another server stopped and looked at our empty glasses 15 minutes later and we asked her for bread. She held onto our dinner order and it was an hour and twenty minutes into our visit before our dinner arrived. We told her we were cold multiple times, while sitting in front of a fireplace that they refused to turn on, or she never asked. She ran our credit card with food from another table on our bill. There was endless issues with the visit and it was really upsetting considering this is a restaurant that normally has high standards. Very disappointed. Excellent service is a must these days. It can make or break coming back to a restaurant.
While our food was excellent, it took our table of 4, 11/2 HOURS, to get it. This was no fault of the kitchen, our server Melissa forgot to put in our order! We asked for bread twice to no avail. Our table needed clearing, another server happened to walk by us and saw the neglect. She not only cleared our table but also brought bread, and filled our coffee cups. When the bill was presented, Melissa had put another tables desserts our bill to the tune of 40$. We have been coming to this restaurant for a very long time, never have we had such a terrible experience. Melissa told us she has been a server at Herferd House for along time, and is good at her job. I would suggest she be retrained or let go.
