Astrea Rooftop Indianapolis Reviews
Astrea is Downtown Indy’s newest rooftop bar and since its opening, I’ve always been curious of the overall experience. I was finally able to make a visit recently. Came at around 6 PM on a Sunday and there was like no one there so we were seated pretty much immediately. Our waitress was SUPER friendly and attentive to our table. The views from the outdoor terrace are phenomenal though given it’s the winter, the outside is closed but they still let us go out there to get some photos. We got a bunch of small plates to share and got the Truffle Fries, Dry House Rubbed Wings, Halibut Filet Fish Sliders, and Braised Short Rib Arancini. Overall, everything was super tasty! The fries were crispy and super flavorful, the fish sliders were good although the fish was a little dry, the wings were fantastic and seasoned nicely, and the arancini was insanely good too! Overall, if you’re in Downtown Indy in the mood for good drinks, small bites, and great views, Astrea is the place to go! I’ll easily be back.
They have a cocktail section that is more than just simple juices/sodas. O REALLY appreciate that especially when going out with a group thay might not know y ou are trying to be sober. The food (pork tenderloin a d trufle fries) were tasty with the pork being our favorite! It had excellent flavors, was not dry, and had a good search on the outside. The views were great and the service was attentive and welcoming
Had a great night at Astrea. Keagan came to our table and discussed the inspiration for our drinks and others on the menu. Could really see the passion he has for creating the unique drinks they offer. We did not have the food and it was too cold for us to check out the outdoor areas, but will definitely be back to experience them!
It was me in my husband first time going plus it was his bday. Food wasnt to bad it was just the portion you got for the price. Other then that Lisa was our server in she was such a sweetheart & great communicator when it came to wanting to know about certain items on the list. We'll be going back loved the view of the city.
Located on the top floor of the Intercontinental hotel, Astrea has some of the best views of downtown Indy. I have now visited twice once at the bar and once at the outdoor patio and the service has been excellent. The drinks are strong and unique, I definitely suggest the white linen! The small bites are tasty and well presented. Overall a great spot to either start or end your night in downtown Indy.
We had a great night out on my friends birthday! The service and the drinks were amazing! I highly recommend this beautiful venue with stunning views! Will go there and try the food next time :)
What an amazing night we had here. Annette was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere, beautiful sunset and views of downtown Indianapolis was a vibe.! I would absolutely recommend the small bites and a lemon drop martini!!
I showed up to Astrea around 11:30pm by myself, frustrated with my downtown Indianapolis experience, as I hadn’t realized this had turned into a town for college frat boys. Liz was my bartender. She had on these adorable green-framed glasses and was the sweetest thing in the WORLD to me. I ordered a dirty martini with olives, and she had it in front of me before I could even say “thank you.” I do everything alone, and a lot of times, people working in the service industry tend to overlook me, which is understandable - the more patrons there are in a party, the better you’re likely to be tipped. But Liz was fully engaged in a conversation with me while making drinks for a completely jam-packed bar on a Saturday night. I showed up just before last call, and she managed to pour two cocktails for me before the last call was made. I felt like she prioritized me and my experience here, even though she had a million other people to tend to. Not to mention, her personality is IMPECCABLE!! Liz is so adorably friendly and kind, and she’s got a natural knack for making your patrons feel beyond safe and welcome. This was my first time at Astrea, and I’ll FOR SURE be returning, if not for anything other than Liz’s hospitality and wonderful service. Thank you, Liz, for making me feel like I was hanging out with a friend when I showed up to this bar alone. You are PHENOMENAL at what you do, and I hope to see more of you at Astrea!! Oh, and the dirty martini was THEEEEEE BEST I’ve ever had. THANK YOU!!!
First time checking this place out with my fiancé and we were impressed! This place is very clean and staff is very friendly! Drinks were very good, food was amazing! Our Server was Lissandra and she went above and beyond, will return best place to have a drink away from the busy crowds somewhere to relax.
Liz is absolutely incredible!! The vibes, views, drinks and ambience is absolute killer!! Will come back here every time we’re in town- highly recommend
I love the ambiance and location of this rooftop lounge. It's a great place to meet up with friends. A classy, upscale vibe.
Grab a bottle of wine here with a friend. For sure must go to spot now in Indianapolis. Good vibes, lots of seating, solid view of downtown Indianapolis. Easy to get to and close enough to Gainbridge or Mass Ave. Will visit again next time I’m in Indianapolis.
If you like roof tops, classy drinks and shareable dishes this is a great spot for that. Service is great they literally are always coming back at the right moment. I recommend the old fashion, manhattan and an espresso martini to finish you off. Views are great, def request to be inside if it’s the middle of the day, but at night this place is a dime to sit outside.
Annette was a fantastic server! She was very attentive to our needs and offered great suggestions to the menu. Especially on a busy night! Great views , great ambiance!
Annette was incredible. Quick service friendly and super welcoming. Great atmosphere, music, and vibes also please go visit Annette! We will definitely be back.
Zara and Lissie were incredibly attentive, kind, and professional. Always checking in and giving great drink options. You could tell they genuinely cared about providing a great experience, and it really showed.
I recently celebrated my birthday here and it was an amazing experience. Everything from the ambiance to the service! We had to change our reservation to a larger group and they were extremely accommodating! The drinks and food were fantastic as well! Can’t wait to come back soon!
The rooftop bar was a wonderful environment for drinks and appetizers. Annette was amazing and kept us from running low on anything.
Stopped in last night with my girlfriends. We hadn’t been yet so thought we’d give it a try. Our server Zara was so sweet! She gave us great recommendations, and was very attentive. This rooftop bar is a cute spot.
I visited Astrea for the first time last night and I have nothing but great things to say. To start, we were greeted by Brittany who was not only incredibly pleasant but also helped out with every silly question we had. She showed us all the ropes and gave us free reign without making us feel silly. We were here for a long time and moved around a lot, Brittany still checked in frequently and always with a smile. She brought a very down-to-earth feel to this upscale environment which made the over all experience not only comfortable, but also luxurious. Nothing is worse than feeling unwelcome especially in these high-society locations, Brittany is an expert at hospitality and customer service. As far as food/drink, everything we had was spectacular. We started with the french onion dip topped with caviar and truffle fries. Perfect for sharing and we will be regularly ordering these bites! The white linen drink really set it over the top. It is refreshing and sweet, a perfect pairing for such rich appetizers. Atmosphere was incredible. The design of this space really sets a tone for the great service, drinks, and apps that follow. You can choose from relaxed couches for conversating, high tops for a romantic feel, or the bar seating which was my favorite. All candle lit and all designed thoughtfully. City views are perfect and Astrea made me fall in love with our city all over again. All in all, we are ready to become regulars! I am so excited to form relationships with this excellent staff and get more familiar with the menu. Thank you Astrea, for making a casual Tuesday night hangout meet the high standards of my friends and I.
This place is fantastic! The crew here was very accommodating. I didn’t make reservations but they still helped us out. We were traveling with many people from out of town, so that gesture was great. Rooftop is awesome and a great environment. Shay, Hannah, Aeron, Mimosa Diane, and the whole crew is awesome! Grazie mille a tutti!
Food and Ambiance was amazing and our server Zara was so witty, kind, and fun to talk to while also giving us amazing service leaving us never in need of anything because she was so on top of it. Will be coming back!
Abeer was so great! Great drinks, great vibes, all around she made it a great experience! Would definitely be back just because of Abeer!
It was my first time visiting Astrea tonight from out of town. The dj made the vibes super cool, our bartenders were dancing with us and making sure we were having fun the whole night. My cocktails were absolutely stunning, Liz and Hannah explained all the ingredients and really made our experience in Indianapolis worth while. The manager Keagan also spent a decent amount of time with us recommending yummy drinks! Thank you Astrea rooftop bar!!
Downtown Indiana has always needed a rooftop like astrea!! The views are breath-taking. All of the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. The cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced. My bartenders Liz and Hannah kept me company & ensured I had the best time. I will be staying at the intercontinental every time I am in Indiana!!!!
I’ve visited during pleasant weather, but went during the coldest night of the year so far, and wow - my visit warmed my night and mood entirely! Annette was the shining star, greeting us immediately and offering our choice of cozy seating options. The service was excellent with water immediately delivered, the specials explained, and the limited time free bourbon samples highlighted. Highly recommend during any season.
Danae was an absolutely wonderful server! She took such great care of us from start to finish, captured some fantastic photos, and made sure everything was delivered perfectly and on time. Highly recommend asking for her — she truly made our experience special!
Yep, great time! Zara (bartender) was wonderful. Old Fashions tasted amazing…All the staff were super friendly. DJ was festive. Just a wonderful end to the evening. Big thanks to all! 👍❤️
We love this rooftop bar and restaurant. The service is very friendly and attentive. There is wide variety of house cocktails that are skillfully, and creatively crafted. While the apps are quite tasty and locally sourced, there is not much bang for your buck. Clearly this is more of an experience, than a budget friendly establishment. I mostly have good things to say about Astrea, just wish that the dishes provided a little more food on the plate, or made what little food offered truly exceptional.
First time for my friends and I. We each had wine/rose which I would say was reasonably priced. For food, we ordered several things; truffle fries, caviar dip, deviled eggs, jumbo shrimp cocktail, and the cheese board. Sadly, the cheeseboard did not meet our expectations. For $22, we received a dinner plate size plate with 3 random cheeses, mustard, and a couple of blueberries and grapes sprinkled. The pickle juice seeped into everything on the plate, so we were not able to eat much of it. The rest of the food was pretty good. I can’t remember our waitress’s name, but she was lovely and recommended wine for my friend and I to try. The portion sizes are a bit small for the price, but the view is incredible. There were heaters outside as well that staff turned on for us once it got colder. One other thing I noticed is that we were charged for our bottle of still water. Not sure I’ve ever been charged for water before, so if this is standard then so be it, but that was surprising to me. I recommend going to get a drink or 2 to experience the view.
Pros - Amazing views, great seating, great food + drinks, prices about what you would expect for the atmosphere, a little on the high side for apps Cons - after being seated outdoors on a large sofa, we were asked if we would be willing to share space with another party...we declined, which is really not a big deal as we found a table inside that we liked. Once inside, our table was off balance, like it needed a matchbook under it to steady it. We just dealt with it, but it was kind of odd in a nice restaurant. There were three of us in our party, our server couldn't remember who had which drink. For an establishment like this, I'd think remembering orders would be standard instead of "who had the ____ {drink}?" When it was time for checks, the server told us we couldn't split the charcuterie starter evenly between checks. One of us said to just put it on her bill, and when the bills came, ALL the food was on her ticket (we ordered other food as well) and the other 2 just had our drinks. The manager fixed it for us (including splitting the charcuterie), but the misunderstanding was another thing to deal with. Also maybe have a sign at street level so people know restaurant is inside the Intercontinental Hotel Overall, we enjoyed our time as Astrea, maybe with a little more training could earn 5 stars.
I used to absolutely love coming here — the atmosphere, the views, and especially the service. Astrea rooftop was my favorite location in the city. A huge reason for that was one of the bartenders who truly elevated the experience —Abeer. She was consistently professional, friendly, and went above and beyond. She was always warm, attentive, and made every visit feel special. I haven’t seen her there recently, and honestly it hasn’t felt quite the same since. She was a big part of what kept me coming back. Since she’s no longer there, I’ve found myself visiting much less and definitely miss her presence because the experience just isn’t the same. Great staff members really make a difference.
I’ll start by saying that I don’t like leaving negative reviews but my hope is that this place improves so it can stay open. Stacey was an absolute treat, and the best thing about the bar. My main question is, who is the target environment here? Because it’s upscale vibes and somewhat pretentious feeling employees don’t exactly mesh with the techno DJ music. If we are aiming for upscale, maybe consider blues or jazz or something softer that fits the crowd you would prefer to draw or (or stay longer than 30 minutes) as what was going on was also too loud for the type of environment. The DJ seemed very nice- but this is almost assuredly not the environment that requires a DJ as it doesn’t (and shouldn’t) have a dance floor. The cocktail prices are fair- however we ordered two of the same beverage and when poured- had a roughly 3-4oz difference between mine and my counterparts. (Stacey didn’t make these, but I wish she had.) Again- it’s the small details when you’re trying to give an air of luxury. I’m not personally throwing anyone under the bus, but as a whole- Stacey and the young woman at the host stand were the only two who did not seem pretentious in a way that was off-putting. And when we’re two of the only six people in the entire bar- is that actually necessary? The gentleman who prepared our beverages while seemingly nice 1) prepared the martinis in a way that felt like maybe they were short on ingredients and wouldn’t have had enough for two full drinks 2) used his bare hands to select some of the materials that went into the beverage after handling other items at the bar and 3) spilled water all on the counter in front of my counterpart and offered no assistance in cleaning it up or even seemed to notice. $18 is not bad for a good martini; however, there are many other places that seem better in quantity and quality. The place was rather dead for a weekend which I partially attribute to the atmosphere and maybe uncertainty of which crowd to attempt to draw in. This place actually had a phenomenal view of the city’s landmarks and would provide a wonderful setting if one felt inclined to stay longer than one drink.
I’ve been twice now and unimpressed both times. First of all, you can go anywhere just as nice with better service for better and cheaper drinks. The prices are not warranted for the service provided and quality of beverages. The first time I went with a party of 6 that had made a reservation. They put us in such a bad location that seemed like it was thrown together when we got there.i was surprised a reservation wasn’t given a better table to accommodate the size. The service also took forever. We felt like our drinks hardly had alcohol in them, if any. I decided to go back months later. This time was a bit better but the service was still not great. It took about an hour for us to get our checks after telling the waiter we were on our last drink. We ordered fries and never got them. The only reason we go is for a cute atmosphere and pictures but I would never have more than one drink for the price. I’ll stick to Ball & Biscuit and other bars similar that have better prices and service.
Went for a date night drinks and snacks. The view is gorgeous and the vibes are great. It would be worth going for a drink or two. The service left a lottttt to be desired. It took us over 15 minutes to be greeted and another 15 to get our drinks. We actually got snacks before drinks. I’d go back for a cute cocktail and picture, but think that there are better options out there
I was extremely excited to try this as it’s the 3rd rooftop bar option in the city (fountain square building and cannonball lounge being the other two). The view is great and the bar is pretty but I was disappointed and will wait a long time to try again. I understand working out the kinks but $19 for a drink is $19 for a drink. For the price in the same area you can get much better drinks at ball and biscuit, sundry and vice, parlor public house, or whiskey exchange with similar vibes and much better staff. The pros I was part of a party of six that arrived on Tuesday evening. The first impression atmosphere is great and the space is ascetically pleasing. The space is big and is built to accommodate parties of all sizes. The cons The drinks were horrible. This is likely because the lead bartender was training a brand new bartender who had never made many of the cocktails we ordered. For $19 dollars a drink when the average around the city is $14-16 I was expecting presentation, taste and concepts to be top notch. They were not. Bad service. The staff were not professional or welcoming. No welcome in or offer to talk over the menu. They are a new space so this is something I’ll give a pass on. We did not get table service outside. We had to order at the bar and stand there while our drinks were made and had to carry our own water to the table despite staff standing around the restaurant. After a long holiday weekend the bar was not busy a Tuesday night- you can see from the uploaded photos. In line with the above- after waiting about 20 minutes my dessert did not come out. They ended up comping the dessert and bringing on out on rush. It was unremarkable tiramisu.
Stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel just for this bar. Made reservations ahead of time (just two of us), got sat inside which kinda killed the vibe. Took forever to get one drink which was just ok, nothing amazing. It quite literally took a full hour for us to get our servers attention for the check. Don’t waste your time here.
This place has the music SO LOUD. Why can't I hear the person across the table at 8pm? There's no dance floor here. Only tables. If you love loud dj music, you'll love it, but this is definitely not the "$20 a cocktail" upscale vibe I was looking for. We planned to stay for awhile but left before finishing our drinks.
I am sad to say this place ruined my Sunday. I hardly ever write negative reviews, but I feel like I need to share our experience. Let me preface by telling you I have been to basically every restaurant in the city. First, it took 15 minutes to be greeted. Then the waiter came and asked what we wanted. We ordered a bottle of Rose and both deserts from the “chefs selection”. The waiter described one of them as “passion fruit with a weird consistency of cornbread”. He never brought napkins or water. The server then brought the bottle of Rose … the glasses had lipstick stain. We had to ask for new glasses. Well he had already pour the wine in the glass and when he replaced the glasses he never mentioned the fact that he took the glass of wine with him. After that we never saw the server again. Someone brought the deserts, which was actually really good, but that “weird consistency” was in fact coconut. I am glad I am not allergic but the waiter should know their desert selection, it’s very embarrassing. We quickly asked for the bill and left because wow.
I wish I had not been forced to leave that review. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, I had a good time there. I had made a prior reservation request, but it was only read upon check-in. Despite this oversight, I tried to enjoy my meal. After checking out, I left a certain amount, but I was charged more than what I had written for a service I partly enjoyed. I’ve already contacted them, but they’ve ignored my request. I suggest double-checking the amount written before charging customers incorrectly.
We visited this place a couple of weeks ago. Initially, there were three of us, but later my friends were going to join. We asked for an extra chair, and a man—who I assume was the manager (a white guy in his 40s)—refused to give us one. Instead, he started putting another table together, but that table never arrived. It felt like they didn’t want my business, so I paid my tab of around $200s and left. The only positive part of the experience was Annette, our waitress, who was respectful and attentive. I left a nice tip for her service. That’s the only reason I’m giving three stars for service.
Their food options here are very limiting. As of February 2026 they have switched to a monthly menu. It's a shame because I was very interested in trying their chicken wings. If you don't mind a monthly menu where your food can be gone one month from the next, then you'll fall in love with the scenic view of monument circle.
Drinks are... mid. Got a Manhattan, and they use literally the cheapest vermouth you can find. I almost walked away right then. For $16 cocktails, I expect at least Cocchi Vermouth. Also ordered Nunnya Beeswax; it was fine, nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is loud. The hotel staff was very nice and attentive, but the drinks were disappointing, the chairs were wobbly, and the bathrooms were dirty. Response to feedback: I did see that you use Martini Vermouth (the cheapest Vermouth possible). As a bar that charges $16 per cocktail, I would assume you had a professional mixologist on staff and would choose a decent Vermouth. I didn't realize I would have to tell them which Vermouth to use. The bartender didn't even understand what I meant when I asked for an Indiana Whiskey; she recommended a beer.
The experience was sincerely horrible, the view is amazing but the service is rude, the staff look down at you if you are not well dressed! The outdoor seating was practically empty but they said we could not go due to reservations but in reality no one ever came! This is my last time I will take my business and family here!
I was there tonight and everything was fine until the manager came up to me and asked if everything was fine because my friends and I kept using the restroom often and that was suspicious. He said it looked like we were doing drugs and we explained to him that we weren’t doing anything wrong we just use the restroom when we drink. He was very rude and other people came up to us and said they often have a problem with him as well. Seems like they need to get rid of him and get someone better and more nice.
Went here tonight and will never go back. Made a reservation for 4 two weeks in advance. Could not seat us outside and sat us inside and just asked if we could be put on a waitlist if any tables open up outside. They said no. The kitchen was broken and no hot food was being served. There were plenty of tables outside and we saw other people being seated. Out server came over to our table three times in over 2 hours and it was not like it was even busy. Worst experience and incredibly disappointing. we got the cheeseboard and it was terrible.
From the moment we arrived, the signs were clear—disorganized service, an unfocused menu, and an atmosphere lacking both warmth and intention. The staff, while not overtly rude, seemed untrained and uninterested, as if hospitality were an afterthought rather than a core value. Racism, overt or subtle, It’s not just unprofessional; it’s unacceptable. A restaurant that cannot extend basic respect and decency to all its guests doesn’t deserve anyone’s business. Especially a waitress saying ‘she’d meet one of my friends outside’ and recorded. I have video documentation of the incident, and while I hope this review prompts serious internal reflection and change, I’m fully prepared to make it public if the behavior is denied. Racism is not just a poor reflection on your staff—it’s a permanent stain on your brand. I strongly urge others to reconsider supporting a place where basic decency isn’t guaranteed for everyone. This is the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever encountered.
Went there tonight and the service was absolutely terrible. Waited a whole 35 minutes for anyone to even notice that they say us down. We tried to go to the bar and they kept ignoring us and telling us to sit back down and they would send our server. 20 minutes later we finally get one. In the meantime had to go up and order drinks at the bar. When we finally got our drinks back, they were wrong 😑. Not the type of ambience or vibe one would go for.
My husband and I went last night and were really disappointed. We had reservations, but when we arrived, we stood at the host stand for about 10 minutes before anyone even greeted us. After being seated, it took another 15 minutes for someone to come by to take our drink order, and another 15 minutes after that before we actually got our drinks. Throughout the night, we had three different people waiting on us—one took our order, another brought the drinks, and then some rude guy showed up at the end just to drop off our check. Not once did anyone check in to see if we needed anything or to ask how our drinks were. For $20 cocktails and being on the rooftop of a supposedly prestigious hotel in Indianapolis, the service should be far better. Definitely not worth it, and we won’t be back.
Best views of Indy in the city, hands down. I’ve been here a hand full of times and have been disappointed every single time. I can’t seem to learn my lesson. Incredible space and ambiance, I hope one day they pull it together and deliver the service and cocktails that you’re paying for in such a prestigious hotel but as of now, they’re not. So much potential to be one of Indy’s best, yet consistently falls short
