Knowlwood Irvine Reviews
We were excited to try Knowlwood Restaurant for the first time. They are located right off the 5 freeway, so it is easy to stop by on your way through town. There was plenty of parking available in their free lot. We were greeted immediately by a cashier with a smile. She was helpful in explaining the menu options, assisting us in finding the best options for each of us. I ordered the pastrami sandwich and fries with a drink. The pastrami chunks were a bit thicker than I prefer and many of the pastrami chunks were inedible due to the large strip of fat. After a couple of bad bites, I picked through the meat removing the fatty pieces. Sadly, more than 1/3 of the meat was inedible. The roll it was served on was delicious with the perfect amount of mustard and a good amount of tasty, crisp pickle chips. The steak fries were cooked just right and were served hot and crispy. The other menu item ordered was a club sandwich with fries and a drink. The sandwich was served on a hamburger bun instead of bread. While it was a good sandwich, if ordered again bread instead of a bun will be requested. The drink station has a variety of sodas, ice tea, and lemonade options. Free refills are available. Overall we enjoyed our visit and look forward to trying the world famous burger next time.
Everything about the diner was excellent. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. The retro style with country vibes was charming. The seating was comfortable and spacious, and the food was delicious. The drinks were also very good, with a wide selection, including horchata and lemonade. Free refills were available. The best employee was Ramon, who was extremely helpful. The manager there was also very easy to get along with and answered our questions about events, specials, and their new rewards app: JhaPay (it's got really good deals for sodas and coffee). A nice touch was the billiard table (1 pool table). Would come here again!
Best service ever, I lost my phone in a 1 in a million spot slid right in the on the side of the booth. Half the staff came out and went to work getting it. took over a half hour and about 7 different tools. But they got it! The prices are great family can eat under $50 here. The restaurant is one kind decor as well. The buildings over 100 years old!
Outstanding Experience from Start to Finish! I recently visited this restaurant and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff made us feel valued and ensured everything was perfect throughout the evening. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can truly taste the quality and care in every bite. The drinks were equally impressive and complemented the meal perfectly. The atmosphere deserves special mention — the ambiance was vibrant yet relaxed, making it ideal for both a casual night out and a special occasion. The lighting, music, and overall vibe created the perfect setting. And the pool table was such a fun bonus! It added a unique touch and made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall, everything — from the service to the food to the ambiance — was simply amazing. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience!
came here for the first time for the line dancing and am definitely returning. when walking up to the restaurant it doesnt look like what it does inside, the lights the on ceiling give it a magical feel while the diner vibe makes you feel nostalgic. i thought i might eat at the dennys next door, but the food here was good. fries were made well, burger was good like an in n out burger. staff were also very helpful and friendly, greeting you at the door and even giving recommendations. overall, am returning and recommend anyone, family’s or friends to come to this cool underground spot.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We enjoyed super bowl at Knowlwood and had a great time. Our server Liana has given us good attention and quick service. Loved how welcoming this place felt. The menu had plenty of options, and everything we ordered tasted great. It's the kind of place you stumble upon and then keep returning to.
I like their fish and chips. The chips are a lot of French fries. Liana greeted me by friendly face and small talk making me comfortable taking my order. I guess she is 18 years. Usually young girls don't take the time to making conversation with 70 years male. Service with a smile deserves notice.
I love love this place. It looks so cool like a Quentin Tarantino movie right when you walk in it looks like a galaxy and then you see the little New York with those I mean the people are just wonderful here. Gilda she checked on us to make sure our food came out proper they have the best cheeseburgers in the world and not to mention free pool so we just had a blast. I encourage everybody to come and check it out if you’re around Irvine.
Phenomenal service and food. Came here for a burger and fries and they delivered. Amazing theme inside apir with live music. This place is a such a vibe. I enjoyed a bacon burger and my kid enjoyed the bbq chicken sandwich. Even the cookies and creme sunday was a hit. Definitely will return again on my next travel out here. Highly recommend.
Staying in a nearby hotel, and came here three times and loved it. All i had were the fish and chips and the bacon cheeseburger, but had no complaints about the food. Bacon cheeseburger--vegetables tasted fresh and crunchy. bacon was the perfect texture and didn't immediately all come out of the burger, which was a good change of place from most other burger places. Fish and chips--pretty standard fish and chips but very good. fish was well cooked and chips were thick. no texture inconsistencies in the fish, which i really appreciated as someone with sensory issues. i asked for vinegar, and they gave me exactly the amount needed for the meal, which was good, because i feel like you always end up with too much (wasteful) or not enough (bland). the people were friendly and i felt safe there eating alone. we had a nice chat with the manager who was really nice. loved the atmosphere with the lights. outdoor seating has good lighting and nice plants and grass. loved this spot and would definitely recommend!
Knowlwood has been a childhood favorite of both mine and my father. It is the best REALLY old school restaurant experience you can get in Irvine. The food was good, the only thing that wasn't so great was the hollow-tasting chili dog. Drinks are great with a good breadth of selections and free refills. The atmosphere is obviously great for enjoyers of old stuff and old timers, and there are occasional singers that come around. The only thing that sucks is management. The manager is extremely rude and doesn't seem competent enough to even take orders without me repeating it 3 times. They occasionally screw orders up as well. Besides that the soul of Knowlwood carries on, and the food is still good at a great price!
We really enjoyed our dinner at this little restaurant with friends. We liked the atmosphere and the good menu, as well as the really great prices. The food was really great and was served fairly quickly. The salmon salad was huge! Also, I ordered the fish and chips and it was not disappointing at all. It was a really huge basket of fries that came with it. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars is because it is a “counter order then sit down and wait” sort of restaurant, which I am not usually fond of. We actually wanted to order more food and drinks after our original order, but decided to leave because the place was busy and the line was too long. Also, they don’t have a bar. They serve beer and wine, but no other alcoholic drinks. I would definitely return here for a good meal at a good price, and will definitely recommend it to others.
Cool breakfast spot right off the 405 on Sand Canyon Ave in Irvine. Inside and outside seating available. Very spacious inside, nice and interesting decoration and a pool table. Plenty of parking. Good atmosphere, relax and enjoyable. Food was really good, tasty and good quantity. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Because the cashier said I could substitute my toast for a pancake. But she didn’t say that it was extra. Not a big deal, but I would have liked to know because ordering!
Standard fare. Nothing spectacular. They serve Smuckers syrup in a packet with the pancakes. The pancakes themselves were good. The eggs and hash browns were unseasoned but cooked right. The toast was buttered before it was brought out. The French toast was good. We came in about 8am and it was not busy. Only a few other customers.
Not the best, not the worst. The half pound cheeseburger is decent. The meat lacks flavor and I couldn't taste the thousand island dressing (I'll ask for it on the side next time). The veggies seem fresh. The onion rings are mediocre. The fries are ok. Zucchini sticks are ok. The salad is ok. The ranch dressing is good. My dad likes to eat here after his doctor's appointments so I might try something different next time.
The food here is simple. No frills. I like that. The price point of this restaurant is extremely reasonable. Portion sizes are decent. If you have never been here, just know it is a walk up to order restaurant. You grab everything yourself (even down to the condiments and coffee refills). The food was good. The staff was friendly. I definitely would prefer grabbing food here over the Dennys next door. Give it a try if you are in the area.
I was headed for Denny's, which has the novelty of outdoor seating, at a Denny's. Then I saw Knowlwood, ah, local place, not a giant corporate place. Should've went to Denny's. The omlette was -- ok, and I'm being generous here. I almost turned around and walked out the moment I stepped through the door and noticed almost-everyone eating here was older than me, and I'm in my sixties! The omlette tasted watery, not sure how you do that. The hash browns were good, at least.
PLEASE PLEASE clean it up, fix it up.. owner must be MIA living in on a island, not a single response.. lower from 3 to 2 stars for not caring please care about your business , looks like abandoned by owners and waiting to die business.. Get rid of the dead plant at the front door it shows the heart. Fix it , clean it up, it could be a cool cool place once fixed I'll take this post down and edit it to better stars.. Im hoping you will step up and clean it up ... it could be a cool spot.. the burger was okay, will not be craving them. the chicken strips were good BBQ sauce good says the kid, for adults the chicken strips are blah dont bother with onion rings , poor quality frys are normal okay pool table doesn't work balls stay in, its is beter to throw the table away and put a free one in that does it job then old broken one trying to take a dollar and not working the kids claw machine broke , they put a sign up high so maybe an adult would notice but the kids keep shoving coins in loosing money , come on tape over the coin holes if doest work. kids are broken hearted lost money the workers are nice enough probably was cool 20 years ago today only the pickup truck in the middle is cool.
Food was okay. Worlds grestest burger? I dont think so. Just above 7 eleven burgers. Service? taking the order and collect the money no problem. Getting your food all together? Good luck. Atmosphere looks cool but place is dirty. One worker cleaning and he did a poor job wiping table down. He didnt care. Never coming here again. Go to Denny's. Its much better.
Was about to walk out as soon as we walked in but wife wanted a supposed Worlds Best Burger. So we sat down despite the first red flag of food court, cafeteria style ordering as soon as we walked in, but they had table service till 9:30am. 2nd red flag - Asked the server if they served bloody Mary’s and after a wait she finally comes back to say no. Then hovered with no other options of what exactly they do serve with brunch.. So we just ordered water ea instead and then she continued to hover till I asked if we could have a few minutes to decide over the menu. When she finally came back over 10 min later (by then wife and I were over it and ready to leave a few bucks for the water and go next door to dennys) we ordered the WF Burger and a order of biscuits and gravy. When it came out I literally almost laughed at the basic looking burger that you can order at any typical neighborhood mom and pop chain.. 3rd red flag - The biscuits and gravy were atrocious! Flat biscuit blobs with what looked to be jimmy dean style cheap sausage you get from the grocery store freezer section cut into small chunks and a transparent soup slopped on the blobs.. not even enough to make it moist.. Literally the worst sausage gravy I have ever seen and tasted. Carls Jr has a better biscuits and gravy.. lol! We tried to eat it, said forget it. Waited forever for the waitress to come back and never did. Instead she’s socializing with a coworker at the counter with her drink in hand instead of checking on the only 4 people in the place. Was so bad the other two people were also visibly frustrated.. So we got up paid for our tab at the cafeteria counter and left to go eat somewhere else. Save your time and money!
