Papa John's Irvine Reviews
Party of 2 went for lunch at 11:30 on a Wednesday. Place was empty when we got there and we were seated immediately. Ordered food via the webpage from the QR code on the table and it was served within 5-10 minutes. We shared the spicy wonton appetizer and I had the popcorn chicken rice plate. Everything was good. My plate was a bit dry so I asked for soy sauce on the side and they were happy to comply. Friend had the pork chop rice plate. Both plates had fried meat, so probably not the healthiest but pretty tasty. Total including tips and taxes came to a bit less than 30 per person.
Excellent pork chop bento boxes — generous in portions, and balanced in flavors and tastes.
I ordered the pork chop with rice. I also got the peanut dish with my Yelp check-in. The pork chop was delicious. It came with the rice on the side along with miso soup. I would definitely get this again. Pass on the peanuts. I got them free with Yelp check-in and didn't finish them. Service was good. They only accept credit cards, no cash. Parking might be tight during peak hours.
They make stinky tofu, so, if you aren’t used to those smells, you may have a hard time. Some people love the food. Some people don’t. I liked it, but my family didn’t. I’m still giving it five stars as I liked it.
I really enjoyed my meal here. I got a lite braised pork bowl. It came with a seaweed soup, which I didn't expect, and it was very nice. Walking in here really made me feel like I was in Taiwan. And though the server spoke no English to me she was very sweet and attentive, bringing me more soup when she saw I finished it. 🧡
We ordered bentos to San Diego during the pandemic and always loved their pork chop. Since we are in the area this weekend so we decided to come in person. No regret! Food is great and service is good. Will come again the next time in the area.
Excellent place. The staff member was very outgoing and helpful. All the food we tried tasted great, especially the fried porkchop. Highly recommended.
Taiwanese pork bowl on a warm afternoon: yes please. Buy one get one milk tea? Yes! Kingchops has great food, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. Made me miss “What to Eat”, my favorite now-closed Taiwanese beef noodle place in Hong Kong.
We come here every time we are in Irvine. Huge portions and awesome pork chop and popcorn chicken. Love the stinky tofu, too! Can’t wait to come again next time we’re in town.
Yummy pork chop. Broccoli for this take out was too crisp - needs to cook a little longer - but saved by the tasty broth it was cooked in. The other items from the egg to the soup were fine. The flavours were all authentic Chinese, unlike Panda's fake American Chinese. $16~ and oddly they don't give change if you use cash despite the wide availability of coins and bills at banks. One staff being trained, so don't expect stellar or quick service dining in if you get him. Definitely call in take-out orders because they do get backlogged during lunch.

Food tastes good. The server is super friendly and helpful. Seems clean and the price is very reasonable. We think they deserve more costumers but didn’t seem like there was a lot on a weekend. Maybe the restaurant name is not very attractive to people or it doesn’t suggest Taiwanese food so it may be easily overlooked? Anyway, we are glad we decided to eat here

Kingchops is a spot serving up Taiwanese comfort food. I visited with my husband during peak dinner hours on a Friday and was seated right away. Ordering was quick and easy via a QR code at the table. One downside: the menu prices listed at the front door didn’t match the actual ordering prices, which was a bit disappointing. Still, we went ahead and ordered the Stinky Tofu, Popcorn Chicken, and the Porkchop Rice Plate. We were served with a complimentary seaweed soup. The food arrived promptly. The stinky tofu was solid, paired nicely with pickled vegetables and a sweet garlic sauce that added a flavorful kick. The popcorn chicken was the standout: crispy and juicy! The pork chop was decent, though not particularly memorable. Overall, it hit the spot for my Taiwanese food cravings. That said, my relatives would probably roast me for dropping nearly $10 on popcorn chicken!
The food here is tasty but the menu/ordering process was tough to comprehend for a first time visitor. We got the pork chop rice + bento, combo A, tofu & preserved egg, popcorn chicken, and fried fish cake. -Pork chop rice - The pork chop was fried nicely. Meat was tender but just slightly under seasoned. -The seaweed soup was good and reminds me of home. The rice with meat sauce complimented the meal well. -Combo A - Pork ears, beef, and tofu. The garlic sauce was flavorful. The pork ears were tender. It and the tofu was great. The beef was okay. Not bad but just okay. -Tofu with preserved eggs were so good. There was only one egg cut in half. I wish the portion was large but regardless, it was delicious. Popcorn chicken was so spicy even with it being mild. It has good basil flavors but just a tad spicy. I will get not spicy next time. -Fried fish cakes were tender and with a lite dust of tasty seasoning.
I would rate it a 5 stars for Food category if they bring back that mystery dipping sauce for the pork chop. That was the bomb! The services are outstanding every time we go there
Solid porkchop rice and noodle dishes. One of my local go-to’s when I’m craving this particular Taiwanese grub. They were unfortunately out of the popcorn chicken during my last visit, but that’s usually something I add on - nice flavor without being overly fried. Comfy inside atmosphere - last time they had Jay Chou playing in the background. Very friendly and prompt service. Note: as per the server: their online price is the same as ordering in-house.

The menu is not intuitive if you don’t speak Chinese. There are not descriptions of anything. We ordered popcorn chicken (no spice) and it came with spice and was actually incredibly spicy. We also ordered two popcorn chicken and rice. These had no way to indicate spice level, but were not spicy. It comes with boiled cabbage, a dish kind of like succotash, and a seaweed soup. Overall, this was good. The seaweed soup is an acquired taste - it will be too briny for some. The succotash was odd too. The spicy dumplings were good, but be advised they have Chinese numbing spice.

I had a trip to Irvine, found this place with high Google review rating. So I ordered 3 dishes for dinner, when I reached to hotel I just found out that my Porkchop Rice Bento doesn't have porkchop.....It was very tired and 10 min away, I gave up going back and arguing for the missing food. Well I don't think the staff did it on purpose, but please check your packing process, please be careful when packing the take out food.

I received a “buy one, get one free” promotion by text about a week ago. However, when I went to pay, the cashier told me the owner was not accepting the promotion code. It was frustrating to receive an offer and then be told it was no longer valid at checkout. I believe a business should honor the promotions it sends to customers. In addition, the restroom was not clean. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, and I will not be returning. The restaurant next door offers a much better experience.
Warning: owner's reply confirmed they record you with no warning. I'm prettier sure recording without warning is not legal. Summary: Not recommended. Fried pork chop is the only acceptable dish. Overly pricey. No service. Poor atmosphere. Must order via QR code. I came here hoping for authentic Taiwanese food, but left seriously disappointed. The fried pork chop was the only item that tasted right—but at over $20 after tax for the combo, it’s not something I’d order again. You might be able to get just the pork chop for $10, but even then, it’s just not worth it in my opinion. Everything else was underwhelming or just flat-out bad. The flower and rib soup was lukewarm and completely tasteless—despite a generous amount of ribs. It honestly tasted like it was made with plain water instead of broth. I don't want to think of a reason behind it. My friend ordered the wonton noodle soup and said he wouldn’t get it again. He’s usually very easygoing, so that says a lot. The fried stinky tofu didn’t taste right either, and both sets of pickled veggies (in the pork chop combo and on the side) didn’t taste like authentic Taiwanese pickles at all. On top of that, the service was minimal. You must order via QR code, which already sets a bad tone, and we had to serve ourselves water. The server just told us to “call me if you need anything,” which doesn’t feel like real table service. The only interaction was when they dropped off the food and cleared the plates. There was also a sign in the restroom (only in Mandarin) saying "No toilet paper in the toilet," which either suggests plumbing issues or a strange assumption about their customers. (My guess is both.) Either way, not a good look. The restaurant requests a minimum 15% tip, even though CA servers are paid $16.50/hr minimum wage. That’s very different from states where servers rely on tips to make up $2-$3/hr wages. I did tip 15%, but honestly, I felt like I did half the work myself—from ordering, to serving water, to figuring everything out without guidance. At that point, it feels like they should be tipping me. (We're the only table during the normal dinner time and this is what we received.) I’m leaving this review in the hopes it helps others looking for real Taiwanese food and service. If you’re just here for the pork chop and willing to pay a premium for it, it’s your choice. But for me? Definitely not coming back. P.S. your server lied to you. I can confirm his attitude grew better after seeing me taking pictures, and the takeout box offer was done after tipping.
Very disappointed….I order food from DoorDash and just found that ants and flies in my soup… I try to call but no one answer the phone(the ai transfer to staff).
