El Agave Johnson City Reviews
Fabulous food and very filling. Hit the spot after a long day out at Trade Days. There's a great hot sauce. The dark of the three. Both green sauces are good too.
The green sauce is amazing!! The food is really good with a, Great atmosphere!
Really good food and very reasonable price. Would definitely go again.
We ordered some breakfast burritos to go and they were amazing! They were stuffed full. Their green salsa is simply the best around. I could buy bottles of that. The flavors are so fresh you can tell everything is from scratch. We have tried other locations for breakfast in the area for tacos/ burritos and this is by far the best. Come support this great place!
Friendly service and large portions. Food made fresh and served hot. I enjoyed the beef fajitas Mexicana
I dropped by El Agave and absolutely enjoyed the experience. The Mole Negro (made from scratch, layered with flavors of pasilla, ancho, mulato chilis, chocolate, and more) was so rich and satisfying — and their “Trilogía de Moles” (verde, rojo, amarillo) was a beautiful presentation and taste journey. Their Tacos de Camarón (jumbo shrimp with garlic-butter sauce and roasted chile de árbol) and Tacos de Pulpo al Pastor (octopus with pineapple and avocado cream) were also highlights. The ambiance felt warm and inviting, with just the right mix of cozy and refined. The staff were friendly, eager to explain dishes, and clearly proud of their menu. If you love Mexican cuisine with depth and variety, this place is a fantastic find.
This place is a gem. Prices are more than fair, food is always phenomenal. They even have a drive-thru if you are in a hurry! One of the best places in JC hands down.
Great little tex-mex/mexican joint. The seats have cool embroidery and are very solid tables which adds to the natural Mexican restaurant feel. I usually get the barbacoa plate but the carne asada is also delicious. The margaritas seem a little bit syrupy. But the prices are very affordable and they'll usually walk out paying only 40 or $50 for two people. The chips and salsa that you originally get seem very authentic and the chips are very thick and crunchy. All in all this is definitely a good Mexican place if you're driving through Johnson City and need to grab a quick bite at an affordable price.
One of the best Mexican places in town! They had delicious burritos, amazing enchiladas, and great quesadillas! We dined there two days in a row! All of the furniture in the restaurant was brand-new, and had a very unique look. Highly recommend El Agave if you're looking for good Mexican food.
The food was delicious! I had the chicken tortilla soup and yum. Bigger portion than I thought but didn't hate it. They didn't have cheeseburger on the kids meal but got my niece a regular burger. Barbacoa was good. Service was polite and constantly working, filling up cups of salsa and cleaning.
We stopped in for breakfast. Coffee was simple but good. The breakfast tacos were tasty, I had the chorizo and egg plus a barbacoa taco. Spicy assortment of fresh salsas. Others had pancakes with scrambled eggs and country sausage. No complaints from us. If we're in Johnson City again, we'd eat here again.
Food was decent, definitely has that Tex-Mex flair. The servers were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience enjoyable. One suggestion: since it’s a family-friendly restaurant, it would be really helpful to have a changing table in the restroom. We had to change our babies in the car, which was inconvenient.
I visited on a Sunday around noon, among the first customers, though the post-church crowd soon filled the place. The extensive menu offered many choices, making it tough to decide. The Mexican food was solid, but not outstanding, and made for a satisfying lunch. Service was friendly when ordering, but tapered off afterward—don’t expect a bill brought to your table; you’re supposed to pay at the checkout counter, so don’t wait around for it.
Food is fine, but service is real weird. We came for lunch on a Saturday and they seemed put out to serve us. Had to ask for silverware and they rolled their eyes. Never got a check so we went to the counter to pay and they just gave us a total. Had to ask to see the actual bill. The real kicker is the sign up front that says “we don’t dial 911” with a shotgun attached. I love a good threat with my meal.
Stopped to get dinner, and food was good. Received a flat soda and returned with no exchange. Ordered picadillo tacos and had no diced potatoes or tomatoes. Asked if they added those ingredients and said no its just beef. So its not picadillo. They did not remove the flat soda ($3.50) we returned and asked them to do so. Manager got all twisted and had hizzy fit. We said no problem, thank you, and left. Will not be a returning customer.
My daughter brought me lunch she ordered a steak quesadillaand when I opened my meal it looked like it came from the kids meal, it's the worst lunch I've sen there. This mail cost me $15 and what I get that looks like it cost 7. This is not the first time ordering through the drive-thru and you get home and it's a complete rip-off, but when you eat inside it's great but the drive-thru service need some work.
The atmosphere was casual, and typical of a Mexican restraunt. The waitress took our drink order and was prompt in bringing the drinks out and took our food order. The food was delivered in about 10 minutes. We requested more salsa, which was never providee. There was so much cheese on the plates we scraped most of it off. No one in our party finished any of the plates. They were too greasy from so much cheese. The waitress returned later and asked how everything was. We informed her there was too much cheese and she acted as if she did not understand and asked if we were ready for the ticket and walked away. She spoke with someone else. Another waitress delivered the cheque to us. They did not even try to resolve this issue and avoided the complaint. This was the first, and last, time I will be going to this restraunt.
First time visiting the restaurant. I dined in to order. There was only one family inside. I asked for chicken tacos and this is what I got below. The menu said that toppings were included. I had to ask the staff for toppings, the staff looked confused and I had to show them the menu and the picture of how the tacos look. They eventually brought over the toppings. Everything was plain. The salsa had too much tomatoes and the guacamole was just an avocado with no salt; we had to use my toppings to make it better.
