Peking Chinese Johnstown Reviews
Best Chinese in area! Fresh and delicious. Best House Special Wonton Soup. The BEST plain Lo Mein. Best entrees. Just the best. And they're so friendly in there, great customer service!
Food was awesome . This is the best Chinese food around . Have never had a complaint and have been getting food there for ten years or more.
Excellent food and service. I've gotten delivery and the gentleman has always been a pleasure to chat with ! The staff who answer the phone are always wonderful and accurate with my orders.
I got here every weekend, I love there food
I met a new friend and we decided to have dinner at Peking. We both ordered the special and we're not at all disappointed. The food and service were excellent.
I have been eating Chinese food from here for at least 20 years and I’ve NEVER had an issue. The food is delicious and the prices are affordable!!
Fantastic food and service. If you haven’t tried them you’re missing out.
One of the best around, Love the spicy cabbage!!
Just picked up my 1st eve atr this restaurant. Got to say the most fantastic ku pao chicken I've had!!!! Well be my weekly spot for sure
Best Chinese place around. Love their egg roll especially and sweet and sour chicken.
I love this place the food taste so good everytime. My favorite place
The food is always delicious but the main reason I come back over and over is the service! The Young family does an excellent job!
I have had a of experience with American Chinese food. For me, this is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. The decor, though, is not so good. Get the food to go. I tend to favor garlic chicken. My wife goes for sesame beef or General Tso's. They have brown rice on request--which gives me some semblance of healthy eating (which Chinese food usually is not). I have tried other Chinese restaurants in the area. Mostly, I do not go to those anymore. The exception is the Chinese Buffet on Comrie Ave across from the Price Chopper. Adequate food, better decor. See my review.
The best Chinese in upstate NY, hands down. It's excellent every time. High quality food and big portions. Prices may be higher than other Chinese places, but trust me it's worth it.
As a truck driver I broke down on the side of the road and was waiting on a tow truck they went out of their way to make sure I got good food quick. Really good the only issue I had was I should have gotten a 2 order of dumplings. I’m going to put the leftovers in the fridge and have food for 2 days
Best tasting Chinese in area. Reviews speaking of wait times are because it's a family owned business that gets a lot of customers during busy nights. Go for pickup or sit down for a meal and wait no longer than 10 minutes.
This place is highly recommend because they have a very wide selection and sometimes I get a free drink with meals during special limited time deals. I have a successful time while there and can practice successful budgeting. There are a bazillion shops extremely close as well.
For the last 35 years, this place has done nothing but give me the most consistent and delicious Chinese food in America. Not an easy task and I've been all over this country. Thank you.
We drive 35 miles to eat here, because the food is so good. The local chinese food is good, but Peking is exceptional. Always prepared fresh and tasty. Their Kung Po has the right flavor, with just a good afterbite and the lemon chicken is well.
Amazing food with quick service. Love their Crab Rangoon.
This restaurant always provides delicious Chinese meals. It's a wonderful place loved by the locals, and the staff are always smiling.
Been coming here for years,Best food from Here to Albany N.Y.and I've tried plenty restaurants throughout Capital district Peking Chinese in Johnstown is by far No1 trust me.💓👍💯
This place has awesome food every time we have been there!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone!! The best!!
My family has religiously gone to Peking for years. My father went every day in high school, his father did before him and I'm proud to say that I love Peking as much as they do. Hands down has the best wonton soup in the entire state. I drive 50+ minutes just to get there. The owners are incredibly friendly and while the store itself may look a bit out dated, the food is extremely fresh and ridiculously tasty. I recommend to everybody I've ever met.
I dont crave food except for their egg rolls and the sauce for their dumplings. Thick, crisp egg rolls and viscous, flavorful dumpling sauce that pairs perfectly with the egg rolls are a treat after a long week at work. Rest of the food I have ordered is delicious but above is why I choose the new peking from johnstown above any other Still wish they had online ordering but is worth having to call in
Best food in the area! I moved away and when I come back to visit I always order from this place! General Tso's is my fave by them!
Just had my order delivered-less time than stated! Had beef and broccoli-it seemed especially great tasting tonight(ate too much!) Egg drop soup-awesome as always. Love all the people and all the food. Thanks guys. 😊
Have been going to Peking for many, many years. In my opinion they have the best Chinese food in the area. Best crab Rangoon, best dumplings. You will not be disappointed.
This is the best restaurant for Chinese in the region. No other place can compare to its taste, professionalism, or kindness. One issue, sometimes forget chop sticks on delivery orders, when requested. Expect to wait anywhere from 20 minutes to nearly an hour for delivery, depending on how busy they are.
Great experience. We got dinner from here (delivery) while visiting the area and the service and food was amazing. The staff was super friendly and the portion sizes were big.
My all time favorite Chinese ever. I'm super picky, but I haven't found a dish I didn't care for. Fast delivery and generous portions, so you can enjoy it the next day, too.
Have been going here to get food since they opened the first day. In that time I have never had a bad meal, or felt like I was dissatisfied with the customer service. Great place. Have not found better Chinese food yet, and trust me I've looked.
Best place to get food. Whether getting delivered or picking up everyone is welcoming. My all-time favorite is their house special noodle soup, their pineapple chicken dinner, crab rangoons, and lastly, their egg rolls. No place around can't beat the hospitality or delicious food they have.
The best Hot and Sour soup ever. Everything is fabulous. Have always had good experiences with the staff as well
I have been ordering from this Chinese restaurant for years and have never had a problem. Their delivery times are phenomenal, the food is always piping hot and delicious, and the interior of the building is very well maintained and clean. I don’t really have any complaints. That being said, if you’re looking for “authentic” Chinese food, this isn’t it. This is more along the lines of the “Americanized” version of Chinese food, as are most Chinese takeout restaurants. That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t eat here, you most definitely should stop here if you’ve never been, but don’t expect real Chinese cuisine.
I order from them 2-3 times per month. Typical Chinese restaurant with all the same menu items but damn is it good. I'm not sure if they are using better quality ingredients but it's better than your typical Chinese restaurant. The service is also ridiculously fast and it's rare I actually have to wait the full 15 minutes for my order. This is the best place in the area for Chinese...mmm I'm hungry now.
The best Chinese in upstate NY. The food and service surpasses that of any place I’ve been for Chinese around. The pineapple chicken was so bomb but seriously there wasn’t a single thing I got that I didn’t like or eat right up. The only sad part is that I have no leftovers for tomorrow so I’m gonna order more next time :))
First time ever trying their food & i can definitely say it did not disappoint! So so good 10/10 & I will be ordering again.
What a great place with seriously friendly people. It’s no wonder why they’re so busy.
We ordered 5 different meals. Best Chinese food we have ever had.
The General Tso's meal, steamed pork dumplings, and egg rolls are my favorites
Shrimp and broccoli Taste delicious. There are some spots with fishy shrimp .....not this one. 16$ for shrimp and broccoli with pork fried rice
I love this spot. At first you think it's little pricey for Chinese food, but, they make the best dumplings in the area. Food is always fresh and amazing, I think they have new/better egg rolls than they used to now too
Great vegetarian and vegan options. Always fresh, Chinese food. Generous servings, fast, friendly service. Small seating area but very clean.
This is the best place to eat. People are absolutely 💯 kind and very welcoming! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone 😋
Best Chinese food in Johnstown. Reasonable prices, hardworking employees, and friendly service. This is more of a takeout place but they also have some seating for dining in.
1st time sitting down for lunch here. I have gotten takeout before. Food has always been delicious. Thumbs Up
Clean establishment and decent food. The pork dumplings were a standout!!
My roommate and I went there for the first time, but the Lo Mei Noodles 🍜 are tasty, but the plates 🍽 are big enough, and they sometimes make messes when you order them.
Good food the restaurant was not bad if you're in the find the area this Chinese place it's not bad to look at or to check out
The speed of delivery was perfect, the food tastes amazing, but the crab ragoon had too much garlic in the filling. Overall totally recommend this restaurant if your ever in town.
Friendly people, great food, decent prices. Most people get takeout or delivery, but we like to eat there. Excellent egg drop soup, wonderful dumplings, great fried rice, and many, many other options. They are also very accommodating to special orders. We get pork fried rice with egg and snow peas. Yum!
Years worth of experience, good food, and a large menu. It is a very small place though and there isn't much space inside at all, so it's better to take out than eat in.
Ordered and ate a whole quart of sweet and sour chicken last night, all I can say is , " I am so satisfied". That was, the best, buy far.. sweet and sour chicken I have ever had .. I've been pleased 75% of the time when ordering "to go" or "delivery". Truth be told, I've had to change my favorite menu item because it's just been so disappointing. Highly Recommend !!!
Food was average. Moo goo was ok. Pork fried rice ok. Beef broccoli ok. Open late, looked clean good option if it's late...
Nothing really special except the slightly higher prices compared to others in the surrounding area.food isn't bad it just doesn't live up to the hype..great staff though..very attentive and you can tell they work well together...understood me with no issue..no error in my order..fast and from what I hear they deliver..that a huge plus if you need it delivered I guess..
Apparently there is no way to know what their prices are. I was charged $4 more for a lunch special than what is listed on the printed menu they hand out in the store, and $2 more for what is listed on their online menu. I asked why they don't have current prices available anywhere, and was told "sorry" and that it would be too long of a list (I think that's what he was saying). Anyways, everything else was great but the pricing thing is frustrating and something I have never encountered before.
I grew up in Johnstown and we always ordered here. Yes the food is good but The prices are insane! I love the boneless Spareribs from here but not for $20 a Quart. Use to be $17 which is still crazy. Went up to $20. I get that prices for Everything has gone up but other places prices are not as high.
The general tso chicken combo was dry no sauce or spicy? Isn't that what good general tso is ? My husband and I used to order from here a lot and enjoyed it, completely different flavor.
Gen tso chicken no flavor, tough stringy hard to chew. Rice was ok i guess. Much better out there. A plus fast delivery friendly driver
After seeing so many positive reviews we decided to give it a try. We ordered 6 different things and we were disappointed in everything. We will just stick to Asian Delight in Gloversville.
I ordered the Seafood Delight which is supposed to be shrimp, scallops, crab, and lobster. I got 3 overcooked rubbery shrimp, 3 tiny overcooked rubbery scallops, more pics of tasteless imitation crab than I deserved, and one small piece of lobster that looked tore up from the floor up, all for $17.00. Of course there were plenty of vegetables and it was a little too salty!!!
The sweet and sour chicken was pretty good, but the beef lomaine smelled so awful I didn't even want to eat it. I'm not a huge fan of cooked vegetables... maybe that's why I didn't like it. My main reason though for the 2 stars is because the food overall was mediocre, but it was pretty expensive compared to my hometown. 2 pints was $22? Maybe I am just being picky, but I wasn't very impressed. I'll be ordering somewhere else next time... I will say the delivery staff was very friendly and prompt.
Place has gone downhill. I hate to talk bad about a small business BUT this is one of those places that lowered their quality and raised their prices… I got a quart of Lo mein and a boneless rib combo for pick up.. came out to about 40 bucks. The ribs were so drenched in sauce that the whole combo meal was just sitting in a bed of sauce… it was truly disgusting… if I came back I’d only get the Lo mein and or rice. The chicken is over breaded and it makes for a mushy layer between the breading and chicken along with all the sauce they use… sad part it I am not over exaggerating. Maybe in the future I will give this place another chance and hopefully some improvements are made. Although people in this area honestly have no taste it seems so it probably won’t come to anyone’s attention
Poor rating could be due to the personnel this particular day. In the past it has been excellent. However, the dishes seem to be salt free and lacking in overall flavor. I was there on a Sunday and did not recognize any of the people I usually see.
I have been coming to this place for take out pretty much since they opened and never had any complaints. The last couple times I have been very disapointed. What has happened, the food has no taste, the rice is pasty, items are missing from the fixings. The broccoli is over cooked. Please check with your cook and bring your original Food back!!! PLEASE!!
i’m not really sure what i just ate. It says chinese food but it tasted and smelled like indian food. I ordered fried rice, crab ragoon, teriyaki meat on a stick, and fried shrimp. I expected the brown soy style chinese food rice and got bright yellow, no flavor rice instead. The teriyaki meat stick had a red color too it and tasted like an indian style beef, i really have no idea what it was but it did not taste good. the fried shrimp were tiny and over cooked…the ragoon was actually ok, i liked how they were small and full of cream cheese. the placed seamed somewhat busy so maybe this is what people are used to in this area and like it but 3 out of 4 things on the menu tasted like frozen and then fried indian food to me and not chinese food. I will add that the folks running it were nice and helpful - it just taste bad to me, and i don’t believe it to be chinese food. Go to fonda
We use to order here all the time when we first moved here. Now the last 3 times we've ordered, the order has been wrong, and the taste/ quality has went downhill quickly.
I’m not really sure where the “Best Chinese Restaurant” comes from. This was one of the worst Chinese food experiences I’ve ever had. Crab Rangoon - not made with wanton wrapper and overpoweringly oniony Fried Dumplings - again, not made in wanton wrapper. Whatever it was was beautifully brown and crispy on the outside, building anticipation and excitement, but on the inside it was soggy and doughy, dashing my dreams of a delicious fried dumpling. Eggrolls - overall not bad. Crispy and fresh. Best part of the meal General Tso Chicken w/fried rice - had a strange undertone and absolutely no heat whatsoever, the “fried” rice was a bright yellow, like saffron rice, a few bits of bbq pork, no veg and no egg. Overall I was disappointed and underwhelmed.
Never again will I order from here. I ordered a combination platter and French fries, called back an hour and 10 minutes later since my food has yet to arrive. They haven’t even sent the delivery driver out yet. This place is a joke and the service sucks!
They don’t like answering the phone
The food has changed. It used Tobe good. It was disgusting The chicken was rubbery and the, shrimp was so tiny that it was nothing but bread. Wont be back.
Horrible food after a hour drive to get it. $78.25 in food and more then half was totally burn and not edible! Called the restaurant and they hung up on us. Terrible people! You should just lock your doors!
YUCK!! The food was disgusting and to highly priced. I compared their prices to Peking in Gloversville and they are on average $1.50 to $2.00 more! I would rather walk to Gloversville to get food that tastes good rather then pay to much for this place. Horrible
NASTY NASTY NASTY NASTY PEOPLE AND FOOD! Food was absolutely disgusting, we called and spoke with the manager and was promised they would fix the problem. When we brought the food back they would not do anything about it. We were very civil and the owner was rude and nasty, never fixed the problem and we had to order dinner from place since the owner would not fix the problem. My dog wouldn't even eat the food. If I could give them a no star rating I would!! NASTY NASTY NASTY
Do not let the reviews fool you. I ordered shrimp chow mein with fried rice and sesame chicken with shrimp fried rice. No flavor at all. The rice was yellow and seemed steamed instead of fried. I can say a lot however to keep it short, i saw the reviews and took a chance, worst mistake ever.
I don't understand why the parking lot is always so packed. This was why my family ordered dinner from here. There were no vegetables whatsoever in the rice or the lo mein, just a bunch of grease. It was so disappointing. I'll go to China One in Amsterdam from now on.
I would give it 0 if it were an option right now. The food is acceptable, but the service is awful. I ordered tonight, waited literally 1 hour and 50 minutes for my meal, when it got here (COLD)... I told the woman that 2 hours for a delivery is sort of ridiculous, her rude reaction was a shrug of the shoulder and the comment "eh, it happens"...
so I ordered wontons in garlic sauce got home took a bite into one and it was raw in the middle. Im talking uncooked meat and dough like paste. I drove back down and showed the person at the front desk who called over the cook that told me it was cooked. I showed him the raw meat and the dough that was like paste, would you believe this guy opens a eggroll and shows me the inside of a eggroll you know how its usually crispy on the outside and softer on the middle and tells me thats the same, i wish i took a picture i couldn't believe the denial. instead of admitting it was raw and trying to make good on the situation. and this is very common in these local Chinese restaurants its like you bring up a genuine concern in regards to the food and they just say its fresh or cooked all the way when god knows its not.
Ive ordered from this establishment many times in the past. The food is usually very good. Tonight we had Hunan Beef and Butterfly Shrimp With Bacon. Both dishes were beyond nasty. The beef was fatty. The bacon under cooked. And the containers were covered in sauce. What the hell happened? Also, the price is getting insane Update 04/21/19: ordered again. Everything nfg. Sauce dripping everywhere. Place went from really good to nasty. Done. Next time I get delivery Chinese food will try gloversville. It's a shame because this place used to be a really good place. Fyi: Original post was a couple months back
It's been six months at least since I've ordered from here because the food has not been up to par and after ordering this evening you proved me right. This store used to be top-notch!
I am a very respectful 14-year-old young lady when ordering Chinese last night I said the address wrong, since I was dogsitting The lady called To ask what the address was again because I got it wrong and I told her the address and she said “all right, I’ll have your food there in a second” and i hung up. She called me back, saying that I hung up on her before she could ask me, Jhonstown or Gloversville, but I told her I already told her this and answered. Then she asked apartment or house But these questions were already asked So I told her to just bring the food someone’s waiting for it Downstairs. And then rudely for no reason, she said “this would’ve all been easier if you got it right the first time” and hung up before I could answer. I’m not taking disrespect from anyone there’s no need to be a rude human. So I went downstairs waiting for the food and when she got there, I told her there’s no need to be rude and I already told her what town I was in Three times and she said “you made me run all over town, told me the wrong adress and hung up on me when I asked you it” and I told her that doesn’t give her the right to be rude for no reason I told her the town already and she hung up rudely for no reason and there’s no reason for it. I told her to do her job maturely and respectfully, since she obviously can’t. refunded my food and am still waiting for my money back. The owner claimed I was ashamed of coming outside so I did He said not to order from there again they won’t be serving me because I spoke a way to their employee, I replied yeah, that’s fine. I just want my money back. But Thanks Chinese peaking in Jhonstown for getting my side of the story, way to be BIASED I bet you she didn’t tell the entire thing.
Thought I would give this place a shot after 4 years of not ordering. In the past around 2019 the food went way downhill. Used to be the best around. Ordered from here Saturday night got the orange chicken which was dry & mostly breading. Then got an order of pork lo mein the noodles were flavorless & dry! Then to mentioned I asked for duck sauce they sent me nothing. I ate a small portion of the food rest went into the garbage where it belonged. Also to mention for 2 combinations plus cold sesame noodles I paid almost 40$ They are over priced! Will never order again! If you want good Chinese food go to House of Chen in Gloversville.
i have been going here since i was a kid. the last couple years, they have either been substituting their normal fried rice for a different rice or boiling it instead of frying it. tonight i got their fried rice and it had no flavor. it tasted like white rice that they colored yellow. absolutely disappointing. i think i will be taking my business elsewhere from now on, since they cant keep the taste of their food consistent.
HORRIBLE! Food was all burnt and over cooked, the chicken had feathers on them and were dry, the crab rago was all mayo and my WHOLE order was Completely messed up, also OVERPRICED this was Ridiculous DO NOT Recommend messed up my whole day and mood because not only did i just a spend a huge amount of money (200+ for a family of 5) the food was trash! I should have gone to my usaully spot that is cheaper and that has great food. Very upset cant get money back
We were loyal customers until we finally had enough of their rude staff and lack of customer service even from the owner. Had 3 problems, 1st found hair in the bourbon wings, called and the man called me a liar but when my husband got on the phone he was apologetic and offered another set. 2nd time they messed up the order and told us oh sorry we will fix it next time. Then the 3rd time again messed up the order insinuated I was lying and that I ordered the wrong thing and then said we live too far to re deliver the food I ordered AND paid for. Never again Asian Delight has better food and the best owners who truly care for their customers.
The food and prices at this establishment is by far the worse I have ever experienced. Let's start with its 15$ a plate plus tax for a basic meal that would typically cost 7$ at any other chinese restaurant. The chicken taste expired and the portion was half the typical portion at any other chinese restaurant. The pork fried rice consisted of yellow rice with an overload of onions 3 tiny pieces of pork. The egg roll was the only thing that was ok and guys when I say it was OK thier was nothing spectacular about the egg roll. We were advised when ordering we can not add any meat to the lo mein because the containers they use are too small .. that was the most silliest thing I have ever heard while ordering take out. I would never order from this place agian and I would not recommend anyone to purchase either. Based on a 1-10 scale they get a hard 0 and recommend they stop selling expired food.
Worst food I’ve ever eaten the combo meal and the crab regoons
Placed an order 2 hours goes but I can they told me will be there in a minute I wait 10 comes a drive there they are closed a half hour early no food no money paid with card 🤦♀️
Was very disappointed we ordered all our favorites, the Lomein was gross slimy no flavor. Wonton soup gross. They give you a ton of food for your money but it’s just gross.
Called for pick up I arrive later and gave them extra time and my food was made incorrectly. They told me it would be another 10 minutes I left without getting anything and I will never return
IDK, if they make their own food or buy it premade, but don't buy the sweet and sour shrimp, all it is, is 6 puffed dough, the size of tennis balls and 1 piece of shrimp, in each dough, if your lucky, watered down sweet and sour sauce and the same thing with the shrimp egg rolls, all I got was 2 veggies rolls, NO shrimp, but I guess when you almost pay $50, on an order and have it delivered with tip, you get what you pay for..
Worst food ever. Why is the rice yellow? Egg roll taste like old oil. We got one item wrong. Spare ribs are covered in sauce and not grilled. Seem like they are boiled. Just all around gross
Got our order wrong (ordered a quart of pork fried rice) called told them they then hung up on me. I then called to reorder (order from here all the time same thing everytime) then when we got there I tried to say something about it and the lady who cashed me out shrugged her shoulders saying “ I don’t know”. (She was the one who messed up the order the first time we called). I understand miscommunication over the phone sometimes happens but to just be shrugged off and having to pay double the price for a quart of pork fried rice is kinda crazy. Disappointing because we order from here often.
