Half way between Redding and Fortuna, we like to stop for coffee or tea and a salad or sandwich.

Come for the coffee and stay for the food, views and friendly service. Oh and buy some great coffee to go as well. A bit of a secret stop on the road but very cool. Enjoy!

"This is where I want to spend every morning sipping coffee, listening to the river, and setting my 1 or 8 intentions for the day. I ordered a small dirty Chai and a large iced coffee. Both perfect! Kelsey & Jake were so friendly I would go there every morning for coffee and the view. My third day there, I tried the avocado toast. Coffee is my morning routine and when I'm out trying a new place, or far from the next round, I’ll double fist. As an #avocadolover this toast was a post-river rafting treat; I loved the balsamic dabs across the top. Happy rowing and happy belly! Thankful for this special sanctuary on the Trinity River - Strawhouse is one of my top 108 is Magic stops for Coffee. "

Such a cool coffee shop with the wildest history!! Ask to see the straw walls!! So much to see here and sitting outside and enjoying your coffee on the deck is highly recommended. It’s gorgeous. Just be aware there’s no service or wifi!

We stopped here for coffee on our road trip just because we randomly found it on Google Maps and it looked so nice. It’s even prettier in reality. The coffee, brownie and cookie was great. The terrace is beautiful. The team was great and to round it off, I was smart enough to forget my wallet there and they sent it to me vial mail. What a special place and such helpful, kind people! Highly recommend!

Awakening coffee and delicious food. We stopped here on our way to the coast on a Friday evening. The staff was lovely and made the coffee and food quickly! The building looks to be an earthen house made of clay and has an amazing river view in which one can enjoy the serenity and peace of the Big Flats. It is a great halfway point between Eureka and Redding on a trip where you can grab a delightful pick me up. Cannot wait to return for the views and try more tasty foods.

The Cafe is great! They have good breakfast, coffee, and desserts if you're ever driving down 299 and want to take a break. They sell merchandise from local artists and have a beautiful spot overlooking the trinity river.

An oasis on a long lonely drive! Was driving through during the big storm a few days ago. I needed a restroom and could not have been happier to find this gem. Excellent coffee, great local crafts, friendly helpful staff (Thank you Penny!!) and a gorgeous setting. The Trinity was at capacity and near whole trees were tumbling along the rushing water but still picturesque! Would love to come back on a warm sunny day 😊 This stop is a must if you ever find yourself on 299 🏞

Great food, sandwiches coffee, wood fired pizza, views, wedding receptions, rooms, fishing on the Trinity river, and feet off of hwy 299. Only thing missing is some mountain bike trails. They might know a few that I haven't discovered. This is that place if you pass it your gonna regret it. Check it out..

We got Greek salad. It consisted of hot spicy hummus, lettuce, squash, two chunks of chicken. No olives, feta, tomato, bell peppers, or cucumbers. It was disappointing.... not awful but certainly misnamed. The lady at the register was outstanding.... so friendly and smiling ... table outside was great . Good view. We also got hot cocoa.... very good

Been going there for a long time. The scones used to be so delicious. Now I can only take a few bites without getting overloaded with sugar. Please change the recipe back to what it used to be, much better, and edible. Everything else is splendid

You know it truly is a shame that I have to say this will never be my 299 stop. The location is breathtaking. It's what would catch my eye as a beautiful place to stretch my legs, refresh, use the restroom and continue on my way while supporting the local community. I finally did just so as I'm often passing through by the time it was closed. I was so disappointed. There's signs everywhere and I mean like to an obsessive compulsive manner instructing patrons that if they aren't here to buy anything to use the tax funded public restrooms with directions to the closest ones. Which I typically find quite funny and refreshing. Except for when I go to do so I'm treated as if I'm a burden. As if what I ordered was just absolutely unheard of. Which simply was an Americano iced with white mocha or white CHOCOLATE syrup or powder. Which also wasn't specified. Was it powder ir syrup? It almost seemed like the older woman was annoyed with me for my verbiage. I've got news for you sister, someone saying white mocha instead of chocolate knows what they're talking about. I've been a barista for three different coffee companies. So you insinuating that I'm an idiot is not okay. Especially when you just handed me that NINE DOLLAR COFFEE which is literally beans, water and mocha flavoring. So first of all who do you think you are. You didn't bother to ask if that tasted ok. For my taste preference i would have liked it a bit sweeter, as the espresso was actually quite good. By the way!!!! You're also not allowed to sit by the water where there's chairs to do so. Which is what catches your eye on the road next tocthe beautiful river. A place to meditate with coffee for 10 minutes right? Ha! How dare you want some thing so peaceful. Theyre literally roped off. You guys are absolutely out of your mind. If I see a for sale sign on your business in 5 years I won't feel bad. In fact I'd probably look and see how much it would be to invest and run your business the way it should be. For travelers, don't waste your time. These creeps seem to enjoy treating travelers like trash.
