Luau - Grand Hyatt

Absolutely beautiful presentation on the history of the islands. Great food. Open bar is just mai tai and blue Hawaiian but still does the job. The VIP front four rows totally worth it but book ASAP

The host was very entertaining and hilarious. Loved every moment. The food was also great. The waiters take care of you thoroughly.

This was our second time at this luau. The last time was at our Honeymoon in 2001 and one of the guys was still there, Manu the MC of the night. This is the BEST luau in my opinion as it’s a buffet, all you can drink and the service is top notch.The price is reasonable and I would highly recommend this luau!

The service was outstanding! Kudos to our waitress, she was truly an outstanding member of the staff. Never once did my cup, not runith over. OK, it didn’t exactly runith over, but it never was empty. :-)

The experience was fun, festive, and delicious. Drinks were weak but the food was delicious and exceeded expectations. The show was fun and well executed. Performed by talented dancers and a gracious host. However, it could be more informative and tell more history.

This was so wonderful with small children. All the staff were so welcoming and sweet. not sure if it was just a slow night but there weren't that many guests which made the lines short and wonderful to have a lot of open space. The kids had so much space to run around. The food was really really good!!! I wasn't expecting it to be so great, given it's a buffet but YUM! I would say I wasn't impressed with the desserts, but didn't have much space after all the yummy food and drinks. FULL bar which was great and NO lines ever to get a drink. Entertainment was WONDERFUL! my daughter loved the hula girls and I loved the fire dancer. We also walked from poipu kai which was AWESOME. Thanks for a great night!

This was our second Luau on Kauai and better than the first one. While the staff seems ill prepared to accept guests early as they have you wait down a walk way and people enter the grounds the Luau will be in--put a rope up please -- that just adds to guests confusion as to where to go. The food was really good and the story teller was better than expected based on some of the high school references in the comments. The dancers were entertaining as were the fire performers. The cost is high but what isn't expensive on a Hawaiian Island? Would recommend.

Amazing!!! The host was super funny and lead a great show. The performers were outstanding!!! The food was good and gluten, egg, dairy foods were clearly marked for people who were intolerant of those products. We were treated like welcomed guests. I highly recommend. It is a smaller group making it more enjoyable.

Full disclosure, we have never stayed at a Grand Hyatt, so we do not know what is the "usual". We came here because a friend recommended it. We had a great time, and our server, JoAnn, was super attentive and recommended we try something salty like the fish, with the poi--and she was right, it tasted wonderful! Rain was forecasted for the evening so they had it in the Grand Ballroom, which worked out very well. It ended up not raining so we were still able to have the fire show outside. We would much rather have not gotten rained on, so we supported that decision. The dances were lovely and very animated, and as a pescatarian, there were lots of options for me as far as food. I have disliked poke my whole life on the mainland, but the poke here was on point. My husband commented he had never seen NY strip steak on a buffet before, and really enjoyed it. Thank you so much!

We really enjoyed the Luau at the Grand Hyatt. The staff were very friendly, and provided great service. The food was good and there was plenty of variety. The Luau itself was not a typical luau. Not pig roast, hula lessons, lei making that other companies do. We have been to one of those as well. I would describe it as an hawaiin performance. They were very entertaining and we were not disappointed.

I’m not a frequent luau attendee, so to me and my wife, this luau was absolutely wonderful. From the excellent food, service, show and immaculate grounds of the Grand Hyatt, you couldn’t ask for a better evening of entertainment. Though a bit on the high side per person, the price does include gratuity to the staff so they don’t ask for you to open up your wallets to tip them at the end of the show.

Fabulous in all ways. Amazing performances, beautiful costumes, gorgeous ocean front location and the food was top notch. Pulled pork was the best ever, and our server was so attentive. Enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend this show. Best luau I have ever been to.

Beautiful location on the lawn near the beach at the Hyatt property. Our family just visited this luau and had a great time! The staff were so attentive and friendly. Wonderful show and dinner. It was a really fun night for everyone.

Great dancers deftly displayed daring styles of dances of the various peoples of the South Pacific.

For being a tourist attraction, the atmosphere, the performance, and service were phenomenal! The lack of assigned seating was horrible. There was only two of us and we couldn’t sit at the front because we didn’t arrive an hour+ early, and then the end caps of all the tables were reserved for large parties, so couples are pretty much left with no choice but to wedge in between groups of families. The food was average. Not much different than your local city buffet. But the atmosphere, the staff, and the performers make it all worth it!

This was a wonderful event and it was our 1st Luau. Property grounds are immaculate and the service staff are top notch! The food was really good, but we did not always know what we were eating either because lack of sign or misplaced sign with description. The music was great and the performers were spectacular. Suggest wearing bug spray, I got 3 nasty mosquito bites. Otherwise amazing experience!

Was a pretty good show overall, however, they need to find another MC to host it as the one we saw was not greatvat all. She seems completely unprepared. Performers werw AWESOME though!

All the meat dishes were cold. Salads and fruit were wonderful but nothing was even warm.

This luau was fun but not worth $200 pp. There was not time to have more than 1 go through on the buffet if your table was one of the last ones to get called up. Also, if people are spending $200 each, the event should be more than 2.5 hours. The actual show was pretty short. And the host was pretty lame...bad dad jokes.

We unfortunately were hit with a windy wet evening and they had set the luau up outside. We got soaked, as did our food. They provided ponchos. I found the service was very good as was the entertainment. I am not sure how to improve on the food, it was just that it was a row of food, buffet style, no center pieces, just really quite a boring presentation. I have been to a Luau before and it was so much more vibrant with half the cost

Not very traditional in my opinion. Other luau's had cultural demonstrations, this one did not. The dance team was very small and only had one male representative. The location was amazing and the band did a good job. I would explore other luau's before choosing this one.

Venue was moved inside due to possible rain. Food was good, servers were excellent, but the dancers lacked creativity, and some of the male solo performances seemed quirky. Fire dancer was excellent to end the show. Not what I envisioned from a Luau. Will try the Smith Family Luau next time.

3.5 Stars. Performers were amazing and got 5/5 in our book. The food was okay, we’re guests at the hotel and this dinner/food didn’t live up to the quality of what is normally crafted, the pork was dry and lacked flavor; compared to the pork from Chipotle (5 out of 5) this pork was a solid 1.5/5. Our server was super attentive, as I stated off with, the entertainment was great and our girls loved it! I would simply say we’ve been enjoying the islands for 20+ years, never saw the appeal for a luau aside from the experience. I will say we got great family pictures in front of the Aloha sign (total social media picture bait) and it was a good time, we would prob not do again, but it was a fun experience, just pricy…not like there is a fountain ⛲️ of Patron at the venue.

The show and service were amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed the staff and performers! A most memorable evening. The food, however, was cold. We were the second table to go to the buffet, so we imagine the tables after us had really cold meats and fish. It was frustrating to pay so much for the evening and have cold food. Many people commented on it. :( The bread pudding for dessert was served warm and delicious, so we know the cold dinner was a mess up. Maybe the burners underneath the meats/fish weren't working. It seems like an easy fix.

The Grand Hyatt Luau was OK. It was disappointing being bumped from the beach to a courtyard which really led to a meh atmosphere. I wish I knew that before purchasing given the glowing reviews of the beach location. The food was very good but the bar options were limited. It would have been nice for the bar to have coconut cream available for the cocktail mix. The luau show was unnecessarily long. Many people left early. For what I paid I would not recommend as I've been to much better luaus at other properties.

High expectations, low result. $175 per person, held outside in the rain, cold windy, way too many people for one buffet line, food was ice cold and bland, no taste. We were so excited for this. What a let down. Advertised Pork, Chicken, fish , NY strip ….not at the level as expected.. ICE COLD EVERYTHING , ESPECIALLY THE MEATS. IT WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. . It was raining into the food. Sides were again, ice cold and bland. We were appalled. We were one of the last few tables of 20. Seemed they may have run out of food, but for the price and reputation this should have been handled much better. Entertainment- 3 stars Some of the entertainment was good. The hula girls were amazing. Some of the fire tricks were good. Seemed to center attention on one guest and his family.. Otherwise some minor audience interaction. Not as expected. Possibly because of the weather. 5 stars to the service , waiters , waitresses and bartenders were amazing, attentive and apologetic.. We chose this venue over other recommendations because of the menu, despite the cost. In the end we were very disappointed. This was a bucket list trip for us. The rest of our stay has been wonderful. Staff is amazing. Not sure what happened here.

We love luaus and have been to a dozen or so all throughout the islands. This one felt more like a variety show than an authentic luau. So, if you don’t mind twangy music with equally as twangy singing this one is for you. One song felt like it was straight out of a cowboy western. It was disappointing especially for $200+ per person. Can’t beat the view but shop around if you are expecting something classier and with an authentic feel. Slapstick comedy and luaus don’t mix very well. I really don’t like leaving bad reviews but think of this as just being aware of what you are getting into when you book here. Aloha..

Average at best. Been to many Luau's and I was a little disappointed. The entertainment was kind of lackluster. 😔 Food was "pretty good" service was great tho. Extremely expensive for a family of 6 so it left me feeling funky.

We’ve been to many Luau’s and this one is the least entertaining we ever attended. It’s just a buffet with some music and dances. Show is mediocre and doesn’t reflect the price. Food was ok. Server was rushing to clean the table (and go home I guess) Drinks are unlimited (might be great option for someone who need few drinks). Overall ok diner, but not so entertaining.

This was a cutesie luau that was definitely for anyone not familiar with traditional luaus. I am pretty sure the grass skirts were an Amazon buy. The food was great which is a plus but the actual luau was pretty lame. Also having to pay $30 for parking for an hour and a half when I already paid $500 for two adults and a child was my tipping point.

Cost: $204 per adult/$141 age 13-20/$94 age 5-12/Free under 5 years old. The performance is amazing. 5 out of 5 for the performances alone. All of the dancers are excellent dancers. The vocalist, musicians and the host are great entertainers and kept the audience involved. If the performance could be separate from the buffet, then it would be worth attending. The food is definitely not worth attending. There is nothing great about it. For example, the steak and the fish were both overcooked and dry. The desserts were bland and taste better from any other shops around the island. The servers and bartenders were all very attentive. Overall, The performance alone is amazing but the food needs a huge upgrade. Look elsewhere for a hula if you want good food. If you just care about the show, then you'll enjoy these performers.

We attended the Luau at the Grand Hyatt and found it to be a mixed experience. The show was absolutely fantastic—vibrant, entertaining, and full of energy. If you're coming here for the show, you won't be disappointed. However, the buffet was mediocre at best. The steak was overcooked, and the fish was dry, though the chicken stood out as juicy and well-prepared. Service was attentive and friendly, but the bar was a bit of a letdown, offering only very basic cocktails. All in all, come for the show, but keep your food expectations modest.

If you are looking for Vegetarian options in food then this is not the right place . Such a big name in Hotel industry still in buffet for vegetarian they only had some pasta. Rest all was meat which is good for those who like to eat Meat but not for Vegetarian. Even we confirmed before paying huge tickets amount and the lady said they have big variety for Vegetarian. Over all show was fine but dinning was poor

Food was disappointing at best. The meat selection lacked any real taste. Fruit was great, but really that is easy to come by here without any effort. Entertainment was good, but not enough to come close to make up for the price. I don't want an all you can eat buffet when I pay that much. I want good to great food and same on entertainment level. Not sure if there are better, but seriously hope so.

We did this luau 19 years ago and loved it. This time around we were extremely disappointed. The food was terrible. The drinks were fine. The show was ok. The audience participation was the best part. I would not recommend this luau especially considering how much it costs.

It was very difficult to see the dancers the way the tables were set up. Very disappointed. Wish the stage was lifted so all could enjoy.

I'm sorry to say that the Grand Hyatt Kauai Luau rates last in Luau's we've attended, especially considering the price. We would not recommend it. We were led to believe that it rated highly among the various events on Kauai but I do not understand how. Before we go on, I must say that the waitstaff were very attentive, helpful, and considerate. Good folks, good sports all. Tables were set out on the lawns which was very nice until the rains started. We understand that island weather events are unpredictable but, there were no effective contingency plans in place for rains on this, one of the wettest of the islands. We've been to luaus/events/dining venues where, when it began to rain, they immediately set up a covering for the stage and umbrellas for the tables. Instead we carried our soggy plates to sit on folding chairs, which we'd pulled from the tables, into a dry area off to the side where we ate with plates in our laps while the performers waited for the rains to stop. At least they gave us towels, so there's that. The food was pretty good but no Imu (Fire Pit) ritual. The beef was difficult to eat (kind of tough, really) since we had to cut it while balancing it in our laps. Intermittently the performers could continue. However, the performing troupe consisted of only four young women, one older woman, one young man, an emcee and small band. We've seen much more impressive free performances and much, much more impressive paid performances.

It pains me to write a bad review, but am hoping that grand hyatt team will bring some change with their whole luau show experience for future guests who can have better experience. Let me start with good stuff.. * The only One star ratings belongs to the host for being the only entertaining part and for those dancers,especially the fire performance. Now coming to the actual review why not to book this luau... * First sight,small basic stage and 5 women and two guys are the only performers. So you can imagine. Its super basic. Its better going to a random free luau or something. * super commercialized, I truely came this far to see the authentic tradition of this land , the story depiction etc. But ended up seeing a cowboy hawaii dance version, women with glitter skirts. Etc... the beauty of luau is in its story telling thru the authenticity which I can say was zero in this case. * 15 mins in , we dint have anyone guiding us to what to do next, felt ignored most of the time. Dint get our drinks untill we asked them for. Oh! by the way get your water bottle, it would taste better then the drinks that were served. There were dance teaching or something happening at the very end, which i wish they guided everyone to notice. Missed it because I hardly notice that was actually a thing for us. * For the most part of the show there were regular people singing songs... the actual luau dance lasted for 30 mins tops. * food: no comments. Best go eat at local restaurants... * for grand hyatt being the brand , this is worth nothing at all. I have been to so many luaus, with my whole heart, please dont book this if you want the real experience of luau... its unforgettable and the most memorable one to experience and this is not ur deal. Read the lowest reviews, They have said it better... dont waste your money !!!

Hyatt canceled our reservations the day before the show. We had to make reservations months in advance. Our children were so excited for the show. Hyatt didn't give us enough notice to book another experience before our trip was over. It was very disappointing.

Beware when booking. We had a group of 7 booked for a luau on Saturday, Feb 8. We received an email refund notification at 12pm, 5 hours before the start of the show, with no explanation as to why we were being refunded and the show was cancelled. Being how late it was, we then could not find a dinner reservation in the area for 7 people. We had to call the Hyatt and beg them to give us a reservation at any of their hotel restaurants otherwise we would have been eating delivery pizza. After about an hour on the phone and a couple of return calls, they gave in and put us in for a table at a restaurant on their property. When we asked the Hyatt why the luau was cancelled they told us it was because of weather. Which was a flat out lie. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the wind was light. The waitress at their restaurant later told us it was because of low ticket sales. Yet there was a big conference that evening that had their own luau on the main lawn. So weather was never an issue at all. If you book the luau at the Grand Hyatt, I would also book a side reservation at another restaurant incase they cancel on you last minute. And lie to your face as to why its cancelled. I would expect much more from a reputable hotel like this.
