Boll Weevil Lakeside Reviews
1/2 pound steerburger was so delicious. Made to perfection.
Home of the 1/2 lb. Steer burger! Delicious burgers, comfortable atmosphere, good prices.
Love this place takes me back in life when people where caring and original love it . food ,service, and atmosphere great I had the grilled cheese burger , chocolate milkshake, fried zucchini, onion rings, and fries. Amazing
My first experience at Boll Weevil. I am on a GLP-1 so I am limited to what I can order (mostly because of my lack of appetite). But this place literally has a little something for everyone. The atmosphere reminds me of a lot of places that I would frequent growing up in Tennessee and Texas - very log cabin/woodsy roadhouse feel… inviting and cozy. Our waitress, Nicole was super nice and very attentive. She gave us space to enjoy our meals but always seemed to check in on us at just the right time. Overall, we were very pleased with everything. I will definitely go back.
I haven’t been to a Boll Weevil in years and we were down in the area so we stopped in, WOW how the menu has changed since I’ve been here last, it’s fantastic. My food was delicious, not one negative thing to say, everything was positive, I’d love to go back again.
I haven’t been here for a long time, my grandchildren came into town so we decided to eat here. The food was good but our waitress was amazing. Her name is Janet and she was so kind to us and the kids. Thank you for the amazing service.
Excellent steer burgers! Got a medium rare 1/2 lb Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger, a regular 1/2 lb steer burger, and Onion Rings. The mushroom bacon cheeseburger had Swiss cheese, perfectly cooked crisp bacon, and sauteed mushrooms. The flavor of the meat was amazing; the best burger I've had in a long time. I think the key was ordering it medium rare. The regular steer burger meat was cooked medium and was not as flavorful. The onion rings were crispy with large juicy tender onions inside, definitely fresh made. Update: Got a medium rare 1/2 lb Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger. This time it was good, but not as tasty as the last time. Got the Fish and Chips substituting sweet potato fries for the regular fries. The fish, fries, and salad were good. The fish was flaky and moist. When we got the bill there was a $1 extra charge for the substitution we were not told about. Since both regular and sweet potato fries are the same price on the menu, the extra charge was a surprise. Update: Got a medium rare 1/2 lb Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger, and a Wing Ding basket with blue cheese dressing on the salad. Swapped out the fries for onion rings. Everything was very good. The basket had actual chunks of juicy fried chicken, not processed chicken nuggets. The substitution charge has increased to $2. Update: Came on Thursday to try the fresh made fish and chips. OMG the fish was amazing! The batter was like a thin tempura and the fish was juicy and flaky. We will definitely come back to do it again, and gladly pay extra for the all you can eat. Update: Got the Thursday all you can eat fish and chips. It was excellent as usual. Update: Got the Thursday all you can eat fish and chips. Definitely the best freshly made fish and chips made in San Diego county!
Kathie was so awesome, she will be missed! She is our server and has been there for 20 years I believe she said, she’s the one that crocheted those little hamburgers that are around the restaurant and I actually bought A real size one that she made that is so cute! The food is really good, I really enjoyed the chili!
Wonderful meal. Loved the waitstaff with the cat mask, she was great. Nearly every booth/table was full when we went for lunch, Thursday July 22, 2021. Our party of 6 fit well into the round booth near the jukebox. I had the mushroom swiss (no bacon) burger. Still rather confused by the christmas tree near the register, but guess it adds to the eclectic charm.
Rustic western atmosphere with decent bar food and large screens to watch sports, what you expect to find in East county.
I was pulling for this little varmint. We kept seeing it there, on the other side of the road from our morning Starbucks, tempting us. Every morning we saw the mythical creature across the road, beckoning us, deviously chuckling and then hiding behind the bushes next to a car wash ... inconspicuous. We had such great expectations, to our delight it was even cuter on the inside than we expected. This place was definitely our kind of place...ambiance wise. But no matter how much we admired the Boll Weevil's devilish cuteness, the food was a little smaller than we thought it was going to be. At a place like this at home we would spend maybe 30% less to get this much food. I was ok with it though because it was good, as long as you know you like little hole in the wall type places with tastey chili cheese fries and crunchy, crispy onion rings. The salad I got was awesome and the Buffalo sauce is reminding me to add another star back even though I initially wrote this a week ago. As far as the food goes, it was adequate given we were camping and a nice prepared meal was extra appreciated. 👌 we gave a nice fat tip to the waitress because she honestly loves this little place and so did we
The food is good but man, this place is so run down. They bring a tray of condiments to your table with deli containers of onion, pickles, and peppers but always avoid them because they obviously get reused and who knows who has stuck their fingers in there before you. The bottles of ketchup and mustard are old and grimy, obviously never been washed and scrubbed but just get refilled for what seems like years. Service is quick but not really friendly. Thought the new owners would invest a bit into the business but it looks like they just slapped a bunch of TVs above bar and that was it.
A restaurant Is 3 parts. Food service and restaurant. To talk about 1 and not all is a dishonor. Can they put food on a plate and bring it of course. But the price for quality is not right. Alongside the restaurant; is lack of better words ran down. This place has been open for decades and this ran down. Someone is taking profits and putting them in their pockets and never reinvesting in the building and staff. Thats clear. Don’t support a greedy owner.
Our server was rude since the beginning. She’s very short and not attentive. Made the experience very sour and disappointing. The food was mediocre at best— dry chicken sandwich and the milkshakes aren’t really that great. You can get better food and service down the street at the Dairy Queen..no body wants to work these days. Such a shame especially in lakeside.
There was hair in the fish tocos the potato skins were dry and like they were in a heat lamp for like 8 hours and got the chicken salad and asked for parmesan cheese in it and didn’t get that and they didn’t give me croutons
The food was okay if not a little pricey for the quality you receive. The real frustrating part is how good the waiters are at avoiding eye contact and checking on tables. The ladies at this place seem to specialize in ignoring tables, and not refilling drinks. The most entertaining part of this place is watching how people try to flag them down, but they never seem to notice (somehow?).
