Bean & Barnacle Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Reviews
Great quick breakfast (solid coffee and tasty sandwich) spot. The gent running it alone this Saturday was excellent!
On the way to beach looking for a quick stop, and found the sweetest Cafe and staff along the way. This shop was very convenient right off the road and easy parking, with alot of space if I was planning to stay for awhile. The staff was very personable and helpful and my drink was steamed to perfection. Sometimes, when ordering steamed almond mylk; the wrong type is used for steaming, or for too long, which creates a bitter flavor, however this was one of the best ones I had with almond mylk in the area. Will be returning most certainly!
This is a gem of a find on the first floor of the Plunge Resort. The entire family loved their breakfast. A must try if you are in the area very nice decor.
Starbucks coffee and some breakfast sandwiches. Good for a quick and cheap breakfast. Cool seating area that's part of the hotel lobby with artwork and games and lots of seating. Outdoor patio as well. Free parking for 30 minutes at the meters on the north side of the building.
Cute little coffee shop in an eclectic hotel lobby. Lots of outlets and comfortable seating that spills into the hotel; good for doing work. Coffee and food are a bit pricey though.
The coffees were very good but overpriced and the cup was not filled when I went to add cream.
Really big, open space with lots of seating. Good coffee and cool bar with games.
Nice little cafe!
This establishment is a jewel! Amongst, a lot of barnacles! No, restaurant inside. Yet plenty close by.
Dope little laid back spot. Great service and great coffee.
Great service, their coffee and breakfast was very good.
Good coffee and fun place to sit for a bit.
Very trendy coffee joint that whole artsy/industrial vibe but wonderful coffee
Great artisan coffee walking distance from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Worth a visit.
Food was fabulous!!!. The service was even better. I will visit again.
Lovely setting for for tasty breakfast! Art gallery feel to it.
Very good coffee and snacks, friendly sever
Casual but feels kinda hip good coffee
Gorgeous space invites you to chill out and relax
Best cappuccino, better than Starbucks
Good coffee and tea in the A.M.
Perfect morning start. Friendly service
Had a breakfast croissants and coffee- yummy!!!
This is conveniently located beyond the lobby at The Plunge Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale by the Sea... Great for the guests and those nearby as well as those driving by as their is parking. Breakfast and more. Nice space and Wi-Fi.
Great Starbucks coffee. Very nice open space with seating inside and out. The best part, the staff are excellent! Friendly, courteous and accommodating.
Great coffee. Excellent, friendly service!
Great little coffee shop! Excellent service and pricing for any kind of coffee you'd like!
Great place for a stop while riding your bicycle.
Fantastic spot with great drink and food. Lovely art on display!
Part of plunge hotel. Great beach area with plenty to do nearby. Food and drinks were good and service was excellent
This place is in the Plunge Beach Hotel. It was very good. Definitely will stay there again and also hit this spot for good food.
Really awesome chill spot near the beach, not much by way of food just yet but the coffee and atmosphere is great to visit or study.
Great place, great prices. It’s quality coffee and you should honestly pay more for it. Great service too!!
Nice roadside coffee shop with outdoor seating. Something for everyone, from sandwiches and sweets to beer.
Relaxing atmosphere. Able to work here. Great coffee. Friendly staff. I come here often.
Great atmosphere, decor, and service! Relaxing, wonderful couch, and a good place to get work done. Would go again
I was waited on by a most wonderful man working there today. He is an excellent help. He was very nice and made the experience great!
Great design, and they have Starbucks which is a little surreal drinking starbuck without thier trademark architecture.
Best regular iced coffee in Lauderdale by the Sea! Nice air conditioning too.
Great place coffee and lounge bar, but no parking and never busy
Cute little hot spot for coffee, gelato and tasty artisan sandwiches. Modern vibe, very clean. Inside tables and sofa chairs, outside tables. Attached to Plunge hotel with beach parking available. Great new find!
I could not believe how big this place was! Barista was really friendly, I LOVED my Frappe! And it was nice to walk around in the a/c drinking my drink looking at all the art work. Truly makes me want to come back to try the restaurant and new artists rotation.
Great for what it is, a convenient little cafe near the beach. We stopped here a few times on our trip and the coffee was great. Service was efficient and friendly. Amanda was working every day we went and was patient with our complicated orders. Didn’t try the food but they have a small selection of sandwiches and pastries. Thanks!
I wandered into the shop looking for coffee near the beach. The good part is that they have free parking for 20 mins. The space is quite open and spacious. Super friendly staff and the best part is the amazing coffee. I also tried the Almond Croissant and it was delicious. Plenty of space that sit and talk or read books. Would highly recommend.
Great staff and the drinks/food are great! Plus, who doesn't love a mid afternoon "pick me up"! Happy hour (half price) is 3-5. We are definitely enjoying our Starbucks frozen caramel frappuccino, Nutella stuffed croissant and blueberry danish! 🤤. Calories don't count on vacation remember
Great coffee, light roast, from a local brewery. Nice atmosphere, European style. Big open space. Macaroons are tasty. Ginger beer was natural too. They close at 6:30 pm, but you can still hang around for longer since it’s in a hotel, you just won’t be able to order more.
We had such a great experience! The service was fantastic, and those iced lattes were delicious, especially the coconut flavor, which quickly became my favorite! We enjoyed it so much that we went back twice during our stay, and each time we were treated to a solid drink.
The sandwich was ok, but the service was great and the atmosphere is one of a kind. Definitely a cool place.
Maravilloso
Nice lil spot. They serve Panther coffee, which is apparently a pretty popular coffee. The double chocolate Frappe is delicious. The juice was good also, but its just soda and a mixer. It's not a "from scratch" type of juice. The vibe in there was really cool, and close to the beach. The downside was there was only 1 guy working, so it took a little while to order. He was working hard, but can only go so fast. So it just depends on how many people are there.
Great coffee spot, that also has wine and gelato. This place is located inside of the Plunge beach resort, but accessible from the street. We got coffee there a couple of times on the way out of the hotel in the am.
I wanted to like this place, great ambiance, cool setting being shared with the hotel lobby, good service but the menu is very short, wish they had a few more options, nice place to chill before the beach or walk, they also close earlier than most coffee shops around.
Great aesthetic and decor inside. Service wasn't great the day we went. Kinda slow and we were the only two people there. Maybe it was an off day. Coffee was great though.
A coffee shop in the lobby of a hotel. Large open space to enjoy your coffee. The espresso drinks were of good quality, a slightly longer pull than optimal but still flavourful and well balanced. Price was good resulting in an overall good value. No indication of if there is WiFi but there did seem to be power outlets. Service was fast and friendly.
They no longer have Starbucks coffee, they serve panther coffee, also their posted hours are incorrect, we have gone at 4pm Monday and Sunday and they were closed. Lattes, machiatos and mochas and white chocolate mochas have been good. My kids have enjoyed the frappes.
Great coffee good bakery looks like they do wine later
Huge hotel lobby that is a coffee shop. Reasonable prices
Had coffee here every day of our stay!! It's a bit of a lineup but yummy coffee.
Good staff, they are nice and friendly. But he menu is to small due to be the only hotel coffee shop for breakfast!
Good coffee and space, area to relax in. It is inside of the hotel Plunge lobby.
Great staff, great atmosphere, ok coffee. Plenty of comfortable seating inside & outside plus very cute decor & parking is easy to find. Plus entry to the beach is right out the door!
Very nice coffee shop with a variety of options to get you morning fix. They had places to sit both inside and outside. We had great service when we order and relaxed at one of the outside tables
Yep. Nice coffee. Just over priced. $7.00 for a double expresso is a bit too much.
5 for the interior, 1 for the coffee. The coffee is awful. I'm sorry, but it is. So, (5+1):2=3 stars
Cups were defective and dripped coffee.
Bean & Barnacle has plenty of seating, nice atmosphere, good coffee, although its a little pricey for my taste. If it was in Seattle it would fit just fine.
Nice space, they bought a beautiful machine but do not know how to use it. My espresso was over extracted and sour and my husbands cappuccino was essentially a latte.
So nice to have a cafe in walking distance with WiFi & Starbucks. I always order avocado toast but they always say we are out of it :( But they are very friendly. :)
Good for coffee, espresso, price are better then italian bakery. Check the times not open all day.
Located @ lobby of Plunge Hotel. Reduced space, crowded sitting. Operates as Starbucks. Mostly hotel guests, some parking for area customers.
Minus one star for the coffee. Even though they supposedly have great beans, the coffee was awful. It was so bitter even with plenty of milk (I took a cappuccino). I am not sure if they are buying this low grade dark roasted beans or if their espresso machine isn’t well set, but it was bad. Minus another star because the coffee drink we took was awfully sweet. It was impossible to drink. Also they could not serve any sandwich because their machine was broken. The place is nice though, it’s in a large hotel lobby with fun art and they have an expensive outdoor sitting.
It is posted as a Starbucks but they only serve Starbucks coffee and not specialty drinks. My order didn’t come out correctly the first time and overall didn’t taste great. The setting is very nice though! Very friendly staff, lots of outlets for plug in as well.
Waited over 10 minutes to place order. The couple ahead of me got iced stuff and food. Took the one poor girl working there forever to serve it. Not her fault. Needed another set of hands. I ordered flat white. The machine is a 3-group La Marzocco, I believe, a real beauty. While the girl started the shot, she set the milk to steam. And steam. And steam. Dumped it all in a paper cup (no ceramic cups here). It was hot enough to melt lead. I waited for a few minutes then tried it. My tongue is still burned, 8 hours later. I won't complain about the starbucks...I'm from Seattle and no one at home buys that junk. But a flat white is not what you serve. Instead of an intense ristretto shot with a small amount of steamed milk, I got a milky latte. Won't be back.
Great little coffee shop and friendly staff. Only negative is they sell Starbucks. Would be great if they repped a local coffee roaster instead. Still a great spot and nice setting.
The place is very nice, spacious, and the service was good, but they don't have a good barista; they just make coffee without knowing how to do it. Don't sell me a flat white when you're giving me a boiling latte. I wouldn't drink coffee here again, I thought since they used Panther coffee beans they would have good baristas.
I’m a local and always go by with my bike and tell myself “one day I’ll stop here” . Today I did. It Probably was the saddest toasted sandwich I ever ate. Wanna make it a little worse? they charged me for a croissant , but seconds later they realized they were out of croissants, so they replaced it with a white bread “toasted sandwich”. It’s a shame because the bad attention and the lame food does not level up with the good architecture and ambiance investment. Return? …nah. Another chance? Nah. This was on Friday , august 25, 10 AM.
Not good overally, the coffee has nothing special, and there's usually no one here.
Very slow service and they "proudly" 😂 serve Starbucks coffee, not a true independent coffee shop. No thanks!
Not the best customer service, coffee is ok but a little too pricey for what it actually is.
Slow service. They were out of my requested brew. Credit card reader was down. Not impressed.
Very inconsistent coffee, walk across the street to dunking donuts
Walked down here to get breakfast. Turns out it is just a small Starbucks in the basement of a hotel. Left and went to Dunkin’ Donuts if that says anything.
The coffee is good. The food is trash. The fillings in the danish is some sort of synthetic plastic mix of food coloring and gelatin. To the owners: don’t respond to my review thanking me for it or some other ridiculous canned response. Fix your food offering.
I was excited to try this place since it was within walking distance from my hotel. The staff behind the counter could not have been friendlier or more efficient. Unfortunately the quality of the food ruined my experience. I ordered a cheese and egg croissant for $6 or $7 and it was no better than what you'd get from Burger King; tasted like it was made with a powdered egg mix, plus it had been microwaved. I also ordered a fruit cup, but when I opened the cover I found that one of the strawberries was covered in mold (thankfully I got my money back for that). Very disappointing; I choose this place over First Watch (across the street) since it's local and independently owned.
Just not a real coffee bar. Coffee is average at best but nice location… food is meh. Wanted to like it a lot more.
Giving this place 2 stars is generous. The service was poor at best, and the attitudes of the staff were very high. You can tell they didn’t want to be there or even wait on you. The only redemption was my latte was excellent. The issue was when I asked for a breakfast sandwich and they said you have to go next door to order it. When I sent to the Octopus restaurant they were more than willing to help me, and were irritated that Bean and Barnacle didn’t want to place my order. My recommendation, stay clear and keep walking/driving to the next place to get a cup of Joe and a sandwich.
Great location, but the morning shift is never staffed well. Only one person works. So if three customers are there ordering.. plan on 15 min wait. Sometimes there are 8 people waiting and it take a half hour. You’re better off going elsewhere. I’m planning to meet friends tomorrow, it we decided to try another place by the pompano pier. They are staffed better so the wait is much quicker. Also, pastries taste old and prepackaged. They are made fresh. Skip the baked goods.
in a City like Fort Larureldale where the government lives of the parking fines it will be nice when an establishment will clearly mark their parking lot. my latte was super hot I could barely hold it in my hand with one sleeve and the employees did not know where the parking was. got a ticket also for daring to park my car so I can get a latte.
We feel like we got gouged. 17 dollars for two cups of coffee and two muffins we will never return there again
Baristas were rude all 3 times I came in. Coffee was also horrible.
Coffee was old, stale, and soured. Staff was unable to be found, and when he finally showed up he was so apathetic. Paid $11 for a small iced coffee and a stale cinnamon bun. Threw the coffee away it was so bad.
Hours are wrong. Tried to order some drinks and food but they close earlier than listed. Maybe let your hotel guests know this when they check in?
Don't except cash. Will not support such businesses.
Cool looking place but thats about it. Over $9 for a small (12oz but the cup was only 3/4 full) latte. The lady making our coffee tried 2 times to make an espresso (she overflowed a 12oz cup twice so not an espresso) and handed me my reciept before I even had time to ask for my second drink. She then asked if we wanted anything else to which I replied I would like a doppio followed by her acknowledgement. Five minutes later after the faff of making my TEN DOLLAR latte, she said she didn’t know we also wanted a doppio and offered to charge me again for the total. No other independent coffee shop in the Fort Lauderdale area charges even half what these people do.
Staff did not acknowledge us when we arrived, and when they finally did, the interaction felt rude from the start. The first thing we were greeted with was a list of everything that wasn’t available, which set a negative tone immediately. Later, they yelled “hello, hello” across the coffee shop to tell me my order was ready while I was briefly on my phone. When I picked it up, it was incorrect. The entire experience made me feel like I was an inconvenience rather than a customer. I was genuinely looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, after this experience, I won’t be returning.
