Medlar London Reviews
Possibly my favourite restaurant in London. Always welcoming, knowledgable and friendly staff. The food has always been stand out. Fantastic quality, great options and not over priced. Everyone I brought here loves it. Stand outs are the Crab raviolo with with samphire, brown shrimps, fondue of leeks and bisque sauce. Just typing this out has my mouth watering! Thinly sliced roast pork loin with celeriac remoulade, salsa verde, crackling and tardivo. Warm chocolate mousse and salted caramel tartlet with milk ice cream and candied pecans.
We saw a couple proposed! Great service and nothing to fault. - crab ravioli and the beef was the highlight of the day. They even gave us complementary cheese towards the end. A lovely neighbourhood restaurant with great hospitality and great food. I would definitely return to sample other cheeses & dessert. Ps. The server takes amazing photos
Booked this for my boyfriend’s birthday based on the great Google reviews, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The food was top-notch—beautifully presented and full of flavor. The seating was spacious and comfortable, making the experience even more enjoyable. Service was excellent—attentive without being intrusive. A perfect spot for a special occasion!
We went as a party of four today and had a fantastic lunch. Everything from the food to the drink to the service was extremely difficult to fault. We had brought two bottles of our own wine and the sommelier was more than happy to decant and serve the wine, and our glasses were almost never empty (until the wine ran out, anyway). My friend ordered two glasses on top of this and said they were delicious. The service was friendly and professional throughout and the menu offered a great selection of dishes, certainly more than one often finds on a set lunchtime menu. It was all of a high standard, especially the beef main with stuffed mushroom, snails and shallot puree, which is one of the best plates of food I've had this year. For a gougere each, three courses, corkage for the wine (and a couple of glasses on top), plus tea and coffees, it came to around £74 with service. For a meal like that, it was well worth it and we look forward to revisiting again.
Very nice little restaurant in the heart of Chelsea. Prices are more than fair for the quality and the quantity of food you get: £55 for a high quality 3 course meal. Cocktails are a bit more pricey but worth a try. Great recommendation on the types of wine to pair to your dishes. Strongly recommend giving it a try. Also very safe in times of covid, with separators between each table.
Finally, a restaurant with great food, attentive service and lovely surroundings which isn't deafeningly loud. Probably because it's not an Insta crowd but diners who appreciate good food. All dishes were cooked to perfection & generously portioned (hard to fit dessert in). Don't fill up on the excellent bread. Fab cocktails too. Extensive wine list. And, unlike most other restaurants in London, you actually get a complete plate! rather than a piece of fish/meat with the same old, boring sides to order extra. We look forward to coming back.
***Eat incredible food at a reasonable price*** Looking at the food you would think that it would cost much more than it is. If I lived in London, I would come here very often. The fish was well seasoned and cooked to a perfect doneness. Both the front of the house and back of the house know what they are doing. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Visit: 1
I booked Medlar for wife's birthday, I saw the reviews were decent and I thought I give it ago myself. I like the menu was just a set price. Either opting for the 2 course or 3 course menu. As it was a celebration we opted for the 3 course menu. The menu looked great with a nice selection of options. My wife went for the crab ravioli to start and I chose the tuna option. Both were really tasty, the tuna was fresh and light with a lovely Asian dressing. We ordered the rioja red wine which was lovely. Its nice you can bring your own wine and pay the corkage fee. They brought us lovely bread through out courses which was a nice touch. My wife had the beef for mains and I went for the monkfish. Both were beautiful cooked and delicious. For dessert I had the chocolate moose and my wife had the creme brulee. If was a lovely finish to the meal. We enjoyed the food it felt quite high end and seemed decent value. As it was my wife's birthday they surprised her with a sorbet with a candle in it and some complimentary marshmallows and chocolate truffles.
Fixed menu at £60 for 2 course for dinner is pretty reasonable, the food is very competent and service, bar a small hiccup, was very attentive and made for a very good night. Said hiccup was handled efficiently and without fuss, we are all human, and its these things that show true professionalism. Crab ravioli was lovely, the lamb and duck mains both showed depth and complexity, the meal, service and overall experience were worth another visit, well be back!
A truly incredible meal and experience. Should easily have a michellin star. Crab ravioli and trout tartare were both immense. Although dish of the day was the beef and chips with bernaise. I could swim in the jus the steak was coated in and just do backstroke all day. Asked for wine reccomendations and all the bottles than came out were top notch. Services impeccable too. Lovely Italian chap had a long chat with us at the end of meal. All in all excellent value for money for quality, taste and flavour.
Interesting menu that is beautifully prepared and presented. Service was very good and it is a comfortable place to be. Seven diners and service was seamless.
My partner & I ALWAYS have a GREAT Dinner at Medlar Restaurant and on Sunday Night there was no exception as well. Medlar has always been ONE of my Favourite French restaurant in King’s Road, London. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by Irene & seated promptly at our favourite banquette seating. The Food - Ham Hock Croquettes with celeriac remoulade with green apple gel, Venison Tataki with tosazu dressing / pickled Shimeji / radish cress / red meat radish & Kohirabi, Hampshire Partridge with crisp potatoes terrine / cabbage with chestnut & bacon & Roast of lamb with braised shoulder/ crushed carrots/ pickled walnut & chanterelles were all amazing. Our many THANKS to IRENE & JEREMY. They were attentive, super helpful & friendly. We appreciate your above & beyond service & for making our Sunday dinner at Medlar a good one. If you fancy a good French Restaurant, Medlar is highly recommended 👍🏻
Medlar is a superb restaurant - we were so delighted with every aspect of it! Amazing quality of food, aesthetics, friendly and helpful staff - all of it, brilliant. It finds a lot Ely balance between relaxed and top quality - which is not an easy balance to strike. We wholeheartedly recommend it and would love to come back again.
Four of us had a wonderful meal here from their lunch set menu. I would have been happy with any of the choices from starters, mains and desserts. The service was fantastic, the wine list was excellent and the food was just magnificent. Huge tastes going on and we were all full to the brim upon leaving. I would thoroughly recommend Medlar to anyone who is thinking of going.
Went to celebrate my birthday. Dinner was excellent - ambience is perfect (quiet, clean and tidy); service is top notch; food is exceptional with nice pairing of sides and great combination of taste. I really enjoy the dinner! P.S. a special treat of strawberry sorbet from Medlar 🙏🏼
Simply stunning dining experience! Our second visit and now firmly our treat restaurant when in London. Everything from the friendly, on-point service to the beautiful food and ambience. Unusual for a place to get everything right. Beautiful bread, wonderfully fresh and tasty. Crab ravioli is a fabulous starter. Rump beef and halibut were both amazing dishes. And ordered the triple cooked chips, simply the best chips I've ever tasted. We shared a cheese board, it was huge and some of the cheeses were sublime. Washed down with a few sherries and a bottle of wine, we can't recommend it highly enough. Wonderful dining experience and they overheard me saying to my husband that he could choose the wine as it was his birthday. With the cheese came a creme brule, candle and the team singing happy birthday to my husband. Exceptionally observant service and executed with style and friendliness. We can't wait until we can visit again.
We had a lovely dinner last Friday to celebrate our anniversary. Food was outstanding as always. The little details surrounding the service were impeccable which is what sets Medlar apart. Thank you so much.
We had an incredible dinner for six at Medlar. The restaurant is beautiful, and the service is absolutely wonderful. I’ve dined at many Michelin restaurants but Medlar outshines on service. They really have a brilliant and attentive team, and create a lovely atmosphere for your meal. From the person greeting me at the door, our sommelier and our waiter, they made us feel so welcome and made wonderful conversation that gave us more smiles throughout the evening. Every course was very delicious, this is some of the best food I’ve had in London. Each bottle we tried with our meal was delicious too! I’d highly recommend!
A great restaurant in Chelsea. Great food at surprisingly competitive prices given the quality of the ingredients and the great combination of tastes on offer. Even the desserts are of high quality. The service doesn’t disappoint, not overly formal, friendly. Nice interior too so you spend a comfortable time in classy surroundings. Highly recommended.
We were a group of 4 adults and 2 young kids that visited Medlar for lunch on a Sunday. The décor did feel a bit formal but the friendly staff helped to create a relaxed atmosphere. They offer a price fixe menu of between 1 and 3 courses (with an optional extra cheese course), which felt refreshingly old school in this era of sharing plates that we all live in. Between the 4 adults, we tried out the crab raviolo and slow cooked rabbit starters, followed by the roast quail, calf’s liver and roast guinea fowl mains. For dessert we shared the tart tatin, crème brulee and warm chocolate mousse. The food was beautifully presented and quite flavourful as well. From the starters we tried the crab raviolo was the clear winner, all the mains seemed similarly good, while the tart tatin was an excellent finisher to the meal. I must give special mention to the kid friendliness of the place, as this is not what I expected after reviewing the published menu online which wouldn’t appeal to younger kids. They were very accommodating to our children and offered to tailor make a dish using any mix of items on the menu at a reasonable price of £20. On that note the service was a real highlight of our meal, all the staff we interacted with seemed so genuine and friendly. The bill for the 6 of us came to £414 of which £92 was spent on drinks. The set price per adult of £58 for 3 courses is a relative bargain in this part of town (note that the price does vary based on time of the week, even though very similar menus are on offer), even more so once you consider their very generous servings of complementary bread as well as the chocolate truffles after our meal. On the whole an excellent meal in a place with old worldly charm and with so many tempting items on the menu yet to be tried, I will certainly be back in future…
Amazing food that is creative and builds on great French dishes. Great wine selection and frequent tastings and paired menus. Outstanding service. Its pricey but worth the money.
We went to Medlar after having tried Cornus a couple of times and were curious to explore the connection. There were some similarities for sure (the reindeer table ornament and the gougeres to start!) but it remains its own distinct, delightful experience. The gougeres to start were large, hollow- satisfying but not heavy! We felt the set menu format was great value - I ended up trying a lovely soup with sweetbreads for starter. It was a warm, delicious and slightly sweet soup that paired well with the fried savoriness of the sweetbread. My mains was a delicious roast Guinea fowl on a bed of spatzle - generous! I rounded off the meal by sharing an excellent tarte tatin with a crème fraiche ice cream which was a show-stopper dessert to cap off a leisurely afternoon!
Medlar is truly superb and it's standard of brilliant cuisine has never dipped since it's opening in 2011. David and his team in front of house could not make one more welcome. The menu has it's signature dishes; for starters the Crab Ravioli and Duck Egg tart are a must. For the mains they are all exceptional. It's great value and a hidden gem in the heart of Chelsea.
I thoroughly enjoyed my every dish that I have ordered and so did my family. Modern British food with such thoughtful preparation. Love the food especially the complimentary marshmallow and truffles.
So I have never written a review after having a corporate dinner somewhere, as those ordinarily fall on the scale somewhere between mediocre and inedible (as was in fact the case night before at another dinner at Hornsley Towers). Medlar is an exception to that rule, a bright shining star on corporate/private dining room horizon! Beautiful cosy upstairs private room, fantastic service and wonderful food. We had 3 choices each for entree, main and dessert, and cheese as optional extra. I had wonderful crab raviolo, stunning plate of guinea fowl with purple artichokes, green beans etc; delightful coconut sorbet with mini madelines warm on the plate. Their double cooked hand-cut chips and bernaise sauce alone are worth a visit here! Downstairs is the normal restaurant, again cosy, stylish, facilities super clean. Definitely coming back here for lunch or dinner, with friends. What a gem!
What can I say?! One of the best restraunt experiences I've ever had. The food was out of this world (duck egg tart and beef for me... Wowzers!!!) the staff were so lovely, polite, fun, respectful. They just put you at ease and gave you space whilst being attentive. I'll be back! What a brilliant team you are. Thank you for an amazing night!
The only "problem" with Medlar is that the menu is always so fantastic that it is difficult to choose. Truly superb service, gorgeous food and lovely wines. One of the best cheeseboards in the UK. Very highly recommended.
We recently had a 3 course dinner at Medlar- The four of us had the most delicious food & Medlar's attention to detail was truly special. The meal experience was one of the best I've had in London. Can't wait to go back.
Fantastic food, the Mackerel starter was the best starter I have ever eaten, and the service was impeccable. Merci pour cette belle soirée Medlar :)
We had a fantastic lunch here for our anniversary. Stunning food, great service, and very good value for the quality. Highly recommended!
Delicious lunch at Medlar for my birthday, service was excellent as was most importantly the food. Lunch menu great value for money too given the quality of food
What makes this place more special is the engagement of the staff with the guests, friendly yet professional. Wine list is very well presented and the food is delicious.
Top Notch Fine Dining in SW London! Not a cheap one, not one you can come in and find a seat, with no booking! I love Medlar's inventive cuisine, that every time I'm here, they surprise my tastebuds with recipes that are just delicious, amazing! This time we made it for lunch with friends! What a lovely time, I started with the pork croquettes, and venison for main course! We ordered cote du rhone red, dominant shiraz taste, perfect for pairing combination! Such a taste-feast, delicate croquettes of pork with walnuts and the mustard hint, so smooth with the sip of wine. My main, venison, with this wonderful "braised shoulder" was also soft, smooth, and wonderful! And for pudding I had the pinnapple financier, coconut icecream, passionfruit sauce, and madelaine... "ooh lah lah" as I hope the French would say! :) très jolie!! been to Medlar a couple times, and they manage to keep the level at the top! Thank you so much! XX
Outstanding service, excellent cuisine, lovely decor, great cocktails, wonderful wine list. A foodies paradise and an out-of-this-World cheese board with an even better Port to accompany! Top notch.
My wife and I turned 70 this year, and good friends treated us to a lunch at Medlar. Everything was wonderful: the staff were delightful, the food delicious, and the whole experience very memorable. I had duck egg, followed by turbot, with panna cotta to finish. Unexpectedly, the staff brought us a little extra chocolate pudding with a candle, to celebrate our milestone. I recommend Medlar wholeheartedly
Amazing food. One of us was a vegetarian and they provided amazing and very innovative alternatives with a "no problem" attitude. Fabulous service great vine list. Why this restaurant doesn't have a Micheline Is anyone's guess!
The first thing that strikes me as impressive is the interior design. It's beautiful and relaxing. We went there for brunch and dinner. The food is absolutely delicious. Very refreshing and beautifully presented. I'd highly recommended this place for special occasions like a small friend gathering or a date.
One of the best value for money French restaurants in London! Gorgeous and tasty plates of food and fantastic wine selection. Highly recommend the duck heart and egg starter and snails and portobello and steak.
Amazing place, one of my favourite restaurants in London and would always recommend this place. The wine list is comprehensive, the service was great and the staff were very attentive to our needs and friendly. We went here on Valentine’s Day and the place was decorated very well. The food tasted great and portions were very generous for a high end restaurant. I had the crab raviolo as a starter, wild sea bass with risotto Nero, clams and baby squid for my main and buttermilk pan na cotta for dessert and would recommend all of them.
Absolutely fabulous The attention they paid to my pregnant daughter about their food was so charming. The food is delicious and hot and attractive. They know their wines A super evening out in a lovely atmosphere. Thank you
Exquisite food and one of the best service I’ve experienced, very attentive, professional and dedicated. The lunch menu is incredible value for London given the quality and quantity of food. Highly recommended
First discovered this place when my partner and I had a bizarre experience with an abusive owner in Frantoio, the establishment directly opposite. Medlar gets it right every time, and in many ways it's a treat that it remains a bit of an underrated hidden gem. The menu is imaginative and the wine selection excellent. The staff are well trained and knowledgeable - also they are there when you need them and away when you don't! Taking friends here for special occasions is always wonderful and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Incredible service and food. We were served by Jeremy who was simply amazing. We will be going back for many more fine dining experiences :)
Been a few times now - consistently excellent. Delicious food cooked well and full of flavour. Good service. Great wine list and they do corkage. Crab ravioli magnificent. If you are fed up with confit duck leg being hard and dry try it here - it is divine. A must visit when in London.
Located in southern Chelsea, Medlar offers a cozy atmosphere for fine dining without straining your budget. However, there is considerable room for improvement. The butter could be softer, and the fries need to be cooked more consistently. While the service is friendly, it lacks the sophistication expected from a fine dining establishment, with the pacing feeling uneven and somewhat chaotic at times. The portion sizes are satisfying, and the tarte tatin is great. However, the overall dining experience does not dazzle; it's mostly well-executed food. The wine pairing is good and complements the dishes nicely, though it isn't extraordinary. Had the bill been slightly higher, I might have rated it three stars. Nonetheless, it was a nice dining experience.
We decided to celebrate a special occasion at Medlar after reading the reviews. We booked well in advance and the manager tried to seat us right in front of the door on a chilli night when we arrived. We declined and he kindly took us to the back of the restaurant where he found a nice corner for us. The food was excellent, perfectly executed using top quality seasonal ingredients. The service staff generally are nice and quite attentive particularly those at junior level. However, it is clear those with seniority use their hierarchy positions to be opinionated and make inappropriate comments. The female sommelier was one of them, pushing to order making remarks, quickly opening our bottle of red wine whilst we were still enjoying a carafe of white. When we told her to stop she rolled her eyes and avoided eye contact from there on.Towards the end of the meal the manager came to our table and sarcastically told us he was going to “update our profile noting we didn’t like to seat in front of the door”. It was all a bit odd and made us feel uncomfortable. We left the restaurant in the middle of the busy dinner service and guess what…the tables in front of the door were still empty! So we weren’t the only ones refusing to sit in front of the draft. His remark was full of sarcasm and spoilt what had otherwise been a pleasant experience.
