Sushi was absolutely amazing - we sat at the bar and talked with the chef and he gave us some recommendations to split. All the fish was fresh and delicious- will absolutely be coming back when we're in the area.

This place has 10/10 fresh fish like being at a local restaurant in Japan. The uni being Santa Barbara local made it a knockout. Toro tasting was absolutely bomb. If I lived locally I would eat here every week.

Amazing sushi place. My husband and I have been to Japan and this is the closest you can get for fresh sushi. Price is steep but definitely worth it for the quality you get. Shout out to Francisco, our sushi chef!

Perfect mixture of high quality fish without breaking the bank. The staff is consistently delightful and happy to see your smiling face any time you come see them.

By far the best Sushi in Long Beach!! Always fresh and never frozen like so many other restaurants. We exclusively eat sashimi so no hiding behind fancy roll ingredients. The staff is great. The Sushi Chefs are traditional and expert. If you ask them to make something special they always have a surprise for you. There can quite a wait at times which only demonstrates how well received this restaurant is in the community. The owner (also a sushi chef) Erwin is an honest hardworking restauranteur and with sushi chefs the likes of Peter and Kogi-san you are in for culinary delight. Ask them to smoke some halibut sashimi with Japanese mustard for you! Try going non prime times, even the best can fall short when “in the weeds”!

This has to be the best sushi place in Long Beach. It is a definite "RTR Must" to go to. They always deliver with quality fish. I shouldnt probably tell you what our favorite dish is ... but I will not be selfish. After all is all about People Helping People -PHP! Ask for the Halibut fin, very limited quantity every day so make sure you order it first. Love this place... I shall see you there.

I have been going to Kihon since I was a kid and not once have I left their fine establishment unsatisfied. Their staff are always so kind helpful and attendant. The food may be a little more expensive then other places but you can really taste the quality in the ingredients. And the atmosphere is a nice and cozy feeling place inside and pleasant on their patio.

Kihon is truly something special, and a huge part of that is Victor. From the moment you walk in, his hospitality sets the tone for the entire experience. Victor isn’t just a great host — he’s a genuinely good person. Warm, attentive, and thoughtful in a way that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. You can tell he truly cares about people, not just the restaurant, and that kind of energy is rare. Eddy was an absolutely phenomenal server. Knowledgeable, friendly, and perfectly paced — he made the experience seamless without ever being intrusive. He clearly takes pride in his work and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. And shoutout to Tito as well — such a great presence and part of what makes the team at Kihon feel so dialed-in and welcoming. The staff here works together effortlessly, and it shows. Between the hospitality, the service, and the overall vibe, Kihon stands out as one of the best dining experiences in Long Beach. This is the kind of place you don’t just visit once — you come back for the people. Highly, highly recommend.

The fish is very fresh. And the service is good. Sushi chefs are very skillful at the art of sushi. Really, you will be fully satisfied with any sashimi cut. There is always a nice variety. Yellowtail, mackerel, salmon...oh and the eel, sooo good.

Food is amazing, service are great but some of the services had very strong Cologne, even when they left, when u tasting those food, u feel like eating cologne…

It's a bit pricey compare to most of the Sushi restaurants around the area. The food is good, service is average. 2 adults and 1 toddler spent over $100 for a regular meal. I would only go back there again for special occasions.

Fish was fresh and food was good - everything else was sub-par and kinda ruined the experience. Pricing was on-par with most decent sushi places ( $13-15 per fancy roll) Pros: - food was good quality - they did have gluten-free options and tamari sauce (gluten free soy sauce) - hot green tea was not overly smoky - had a full beer and wine list (not just sake and Japanese beers), which is a nice upgrade - on-site free parking (it's in a strip mall) Cons: - atmosphere sucked - too loud to hear your date (and nearly everyone was there on a date) - we ended up yelljng at each other and mishearing each other all night. - not really any "best seats" in the house- it's one fairly small-sized room. I kept getting bumped by wait staff on their way to other tables. - my food (1 roll) came out at least 15 min. Before my date's sashimi plate ... weird. Made for an awkward dinner
