Dogtown Coffee Los Angeles Reviews
Not sure about older low star reviews maybe they did what any good business should do and make improvements basd on feedback. This is my third day in a row coming here and the food is delicious (I had 2 different breakfast burritos and some pastries which they offer in gluten free versions) service is timely and staff is friendly. Environment was good with clean tables and atmosphere. The only complaint I have which is minor is when places don’t mix the lattes. Very easy and simple improvement which I am sure they will make based on other improvements I gave noted since previous reviews. Id definitely recommend!
Love this place. Very casual, and not fancy, but super chill and easy place to get some coffee and food. More of a locals spot than a tourist thing. The avocado toast was really good, but it was the matcha doughnut that I can’t match(a) anywhere else! Lol
We stopped here on our visit to Venice beach. Highly recommend coming here for a coffee and food, the staff are super friendly and they have lots of GF options. Also we’re super accomodating to dairy free too!
This morning my daughter Jasmine visiting from Nashville Tennessee and I stopped into this coffee shop that was recommended by a friend of our solos in the area I had the avocado toast and my daughter had the chocolate croissant what a really cute little warm little coffee shop that we just discovered I definitely will be coming back here very soon thank you for being very friendly and being very patient especially with my daughter trying to figure out what to order
Out of town visitor looking for quick service coffee + breakfast— loved this spot. Cold brew is excellent, large menu, plenty of seating space. Definitely recommend!
This coffee spot in Santa Monica feels like a postcard from LA’s surf-skate past wrapped in the smell of fresh espresso. Housed in the former Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions shop, the birthplace of the legendary Z-Boys, the café keeps the spirit alive with laid-back energy, mismatched boards, and locals who look like they’ve been rolling in since the ’70s. The coffee is strong, the breakfast burritos are cult-level, and the vibe is that perfect Santa Monica blend of grit-meets-sunshine. It’s the kind of place where you come for the caffeine but stay because it feels like a small, living slice of California history.
I don’t usually leave reviews, but this spot deserves one. Came the other day and the vibe was warm and welcoming all around. Special shoutout to the nice blonde girl who took my order, she recommended the salty dog coffee and the chorizo burrito, both were spot on. Service was pretty quick considering the line out the door. Highly recommend to anyone in the area. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Loved this place! It was a short walk from our hotel so decided to give it a go. We went on a Saturday morning at 9am and it was quite busy but I always think that’s a good sign! We waited around 15-20 minutes for the food but it was well worth it. The Açai bowl was delicious and we also grabbed some croissants and fresh lemonade. The outside seating was perfect, a mixture of shade and sun. And if you didn’t get it by the name, it’s dog friendly so had a great vibe!
Popped in from Oklahoma on our way to a fitness certification and this by far has been one of our favorite places! The food was off the chain amazing! Tables were close together allowing others to commune and conversate over great coffee and breakfast. Meals were huge and it was right near the beach. Their local board gave us great options for local adventures! Highly recommend it!
This place is great, they did some awesome improvements. With a new menu board some new drinks and some new food. There's an outdoor area to sit out front for a patio out back. Street parking with meters, or around the corner just read the signs. They have a really good variety of food drinks and coffee!
Great little coffee shop in Santa Monica. The coffee is solid but I can’t speak for the food as I didn’t eat anything. The highlight is the seating area outside. Lots of space to hang out and enjoy your morning. Service is polite and efficient.
Cool café with the option of sitting outside. Unfortunately there is no seating inside. I had an avocado toast with an Americano and my buddy had a cappuccino and the granola bowl. Both meals were okay, but didn't really enhance our taste buds. Service and ambience, on the other hand, are pleasant and friendly. All meals are served to go. The restaurant has a WC, but no WLAN.
Breakfast burrito was okay. Not a fan of the Gluten free tortilla - it would have been 10x better with a regular tortilla. I’ve had better BBs, but I’m sure their other menu items and drinks are amazing.
I ordered a breakfast bowl that was accompanied by 2 pieces of bread. I was informed at the counter butter was 55 cents extra (less than a tablespoon). The manager said, " I can't find a distributor to give me free butter? I am 70 and have NEVER paid for a pat of butter in the U.S. or Europe! And the oatmeal was luke warm
Dogtown Coffee brings skateboard culture vibes to Santa Monica, but unfortunately doesn't quite nail the landing. The laid-back atmosphere and local history decorating the walls create an authentic beachside feel that somewhat compensates for the underwhelming food and beverages. Their much-hyped breakfast burrito fell notably short of expectations - bland filling, unevenly distributed ingredients, and a texture that suggested it had been sitting around too long. For something featured prominently on their menu, this disappointment was particularly noticeable. The coffee was similarly forgettable - neither terrible nor impressive, just... there. For a specialty coffee shop, this middle-of-the-road brew doesn't give you a reason to choose Dogtown over numerous other options in the area. Service is friendly enough and the location convenient, which saves this spot from a lower rating. If you're in the neighborhood and need a quick caffeine fix, Dogtown will suffice, but don't make a special trip expecting culinary excellence or a memorable coffee experience.
This should be a place I go to often because it has healthy options for burritos and more. Unfortunately, the spinach and goat cheese burrito with vegan sausage was super bland. All I could taste was the goat cheese. And the staff seemed nonplussed, at best. There’s a large patio out back, with a great view of trash dumpsters, and the pleasant aroma of nearby smokers. With so many coffee shop options in the area, I recommend trying other places.
The coffee is decent. There is no such thing as service here. We stayed a block away for a week and not once did they open on time. Luckily im on vacation, but to people who want coffee before work, this could leave you stranded. We ordered a cookie yesterday and asked for it to be heated up. The clerk took someone elses existing order out of the warmer, scratched through their name, and wrote ours. It was the wrong item. They swappped it out, but all of this could have been avoided to begin with by not being lazy.
I was greeted by a lady telling me that they were closing in a few minutes. Ok, fair… I understand wanting to go home after a long shift. I quickly ordered a pumpkin spiced coffee which was pretty good and a plain bagel with cream cheese, which was unfortunately burned to a rock hard crisp and inedible. Since I unfortunately placed my order right before closing, when I returned to try to get a refund the employee was walking out and didn’t acknowledge me. I’m a local but will be looking for another coffee shop to frequent
Marketing is good but the reality is not great. Service is very unequal - 1 waiter was nice but the other ones quite rude (rudeness gold medal goes to the tall & skinny one). The place cleanliness can be very much improved. And top of top: the place claims to be organic, eco friendly, etc…. All items are served in plastic cups and bowls, plastic cutlery, etc… My eggs have been cooked through microwaving in a black plastic bowl which in many countries is forbidden because toxic.
This was an awful experience from start to finish. The cashier was rude and dismissive, making me feel like I was a problem just for ordering. He also told me the only option left was a gluten-free bagel, without ever mentioning that it would cost more. Only when I got the bill did I see an extra $2.50 per bagel tacked on - no warning, no explanation, nothing. On top of that, the bagel itself was terrible. Dry, bland, and barely touched with cream cheese. For the inflated price they charged, I expected at least something edible. Between the rude service, the sneaky upcharge, and the disappointing food, I’ll never come back. Absolutely not worth it.
Ordered “Organic Oatmeal” and strong small cappuccino. Sister had Açai Bowl and Turmeric Latte. First of all, they serve everything in to go packaging, even when you’re eating in. Sooo much garbage why? Just to save doing the dishes? Don’t tip. There is no table service. Order and pick up is from the counter. The oatmeal was super dry and caked. When I went in to ask for some hot milk to make the cold oatmeal edible they pointed me to the coffee milk jug on the takeout counter. When I said, that would make my breakfast colder, the stoned dude behind the counter said, “no it won’t.” I asked again for hot milk and got charged $1.05. The coffee was foamy but like soap not smooth. The turmeric latte was just powder dumped onto a latte. The Açai bowl was frozen. The outdoor seating was a chain link concrete parking lot next to huge garbage bins. This a place trying to live off of its name and historic relationship to skaters but it’s like McDonald’s and a trailer park had a kid, threw some RayBans on the toddler and pushed it behind a counter -“go on kid. Make the people some breakfast.”
$16 for the worst breakfast burrito I've had in my life. Chewy steak and described as having "tater tots" that turned out to be soggy packaged looking hash browns. My Havana latte wasn't terrible but not good either. Friend's "vietnamese" coffee had the souls of all my ancestors rolling in their collective graves, tasted like gas station coffee at 1am. One of our kids asked for his drink to be adjusted to be sweeter, but a worker slammed it back on the counter and told him to go back in line to re-order it. He was being a rude to every other customers as well.
